No risk of chemical burns or reactions, and sugaring does not take a layer of dead skin off of your body so your skin stays smoother for a longer period of time. I'm officially giving up shaving for sugaring, as the benefits (price, time used, time saved, better for your skin, etc) outweigh any possible cons (only con I can think of is if you actually like to shave?).
