Brisket sandwich loaded with large fatty, gelatinous pieces. Unedible.

I ordered two chopped brisket sandwiches from Q BBQ, and both were extremely disappointing, unpleasant and inedible. The sandwiches contained multiple large pieces of fat and gelatinous connective tissue--far beyond what I would expect from normal brisket. Neither of us could eat them. I've included photos so people can judge the quality for themselves. What bothered me just as much was the response when I called. I asked for a refund and was told no. The manager then defended the sandwiches as consistent with their standards and explained to me that brisket is fatty. I'm aware brisket has fat. That was not the issue. A restaurant can have an off order. What matters is how they handle it. In this case, I was disappointed by both the food and the customer service.

The small Lil Q Platter is a good assortment of meats

Today was a mixed bag. It wasn't busy so it was easy to hang out with a friend since it was fairly quiet. On the other hand, the food was just ok.. mostly overcooked. But the flavor of most was ok. I'd skip the burnt ends, but the ribs were fairly good.

This is the Lil' Q Platter! Totally enough for two people!

We tried Q-BBQ on a whim, and I'm so glad we did. We went with the Lil Q Platter, and for two people, it's the perfect amount. The $24.99 price is a great deal in my opinion. The meat is fantastically flavorful. The ribs were my favorite meat. But let me tell you, the mac n cheese (topped with corn bread) is baller. The slaw was good as well, though there is nothing unique about it. The young men working late-afternoon on 3/2/24 were so upbeat and helpful. I appreciated the service a ton. We took a table for two by the window, and it was lovely to enjoy excellent food while people-watching! Our dinner was on the early end, but by the conclusion of our meal, they became busier. They have a really great hand-washing station. They do serve alcohol that includes several Revolution options in addition to other brands. With the platter and two beers, we spent around $40, and that's a great price considering how much we enjoyed everything.

Pulled Chicken A la Carte and fries

The restaurant has plenty of outdoor seating and indoor seating. I had the pulled chicken and fries. The chicken was decent. It was a lot of fries for a small. It comes with hush puppies which are very tasty. The burnt ends are more like a bbq pot roast to me. The staff were very friendly.

Love the convenience of this Marion Street location, right in the center of downtown Oak Park, within walking distance to my favorite book store and around the corner from a great movie theater. I arrived half an hour early to an appointment across the street so I got a sandwich and some work done in the dining area which was super chill. Very clean. Peaceful! Great service, too. Friendly and prompt. I'll come here again, for sure.

This is my 2nd time here, the first was for carryout. We came for the Jazz Thaw festival in Oak Park. A few venues were involved. Food, drinks, live music? Even in 'still-pandemic' times, I'm in! It was packed of course, but seats opened up continuously. We ordered, were given numbers, and sat at a booth. The waitress would bring the food by looking at the table numbers. InsteI got tacos with pulled pork and burnt end brisket, and mac Q Roni and cheese. Both were SO good! The brisket was moist and flavorful, not tough like I was worried it would be. The mac Qroni was good, especially with CORNBREAD crumbs on top! My other party got brussel sprouts, QCumber and tomato salad and pulled chicken it came with hushpuppies (called 'Qpups. Maybe ease up on the 'Q-talk?). What I tasted was pretty good. I got a soft drink that was refillable. I guess I am taking a star off because of the soda dispensers. I know the new, endless combination types are very expensive, but I was NOT comfortable refilling my soda with the same cup (they would not let me get a new one) by pressing the metal tab. For sanitary reasons we should get new cups everytime, or at least get the dispenser that uses buttons instead of tabs. I'd definitely go back but for carryout only.

This crap

For the price the food is some shit. I've been gone for 30 yrs and this is what you new Chicagoans except? How do you not give bread when you order hot links? And the say you get hush puppies with your ribs wait till you se the fn hush puppies, if you can recognize them. I'm just all around pissed the F off. I will never ever go there again. I don't care if they are last BBQ in the State of Ill. Now after tasting this horrible presentation of BBQ. The ribs are tough, the coleslaw is bland, and the little tiny Winnie hush puppies was hard as hell. The only thing that may be worth consuming is the bbq sauce. Do yourself a favor and never go there!

It is not bad. The food is decent and readily available upon an order. The service is great. The atmosphere good too. It wasn't crowded. The sauces are good. It is overall good. Yet not better than some other BBQ spots in Illinois.

They not only changed the menu because of COVID19, but the quality of service went down drastically!

I can't believe they have been around for 4 years and this is my first time there…read more When we walked in I was concerned that no one was in the restaurant. In their defense it was 4:00 and the evening rush hadn't began. We were greeted by a lovely young lady (Nicki) We decided on 3 sandwiches so we could try a little of everything (or so we thought) 1. Brisket sandwich Amazing! Perfectly cooked, 6 options for BBQ sauces. Just a great sandwich. 2. Pastrami sandwich Spectacular! My personal favorite. If you're looking for a NY style Pastrami, then go to NY. This sandwich was a thick cut Chicago sandwich. Also, not a traditional mustard but a mustard dressing...fine by me because the Pastrami is all that matters. So juicy so flavorful, a fat man's (me) dream 3. Italian beef. I was almost full and picked at the beef...really good too...but I have to say their giardiniera is amazing. My only gripe with the beef was it didn't come out hot, it came out warm...I prefer hot WAIT THERE'S MORE!!! Halfway through our meal Nicki came by to check on us and DROPPED A COUPLE OF PIECES OF SKIRT STEAK on the table for us to try...no seasoning at all not even salt...its was sooooo good that I'm going to get the steak sandwich next time. Great food, great atmosphere, and great people It's a must have

Everything I've ever had from here in the past three years has been incredible and I think about it a lot. It's one of the last places where you get that community feeling even when you step through the door; wether you're greeted when you walk in or having someone check on you while you eat, the ambiance is unmatched. This is a restaurant that I recommend to people I like because you don't just go to Top Butcher once it becomes part of your routine. The Scorza family is always inside talking to everyone and working like maniacs. Top Butcher is on my death row meal... I love this place!

I'm a bit confused by some of the reviews that state things have changed at Russell's (like the way…read morethe meat is or the BBQ sauce). I've been going since I was a baby (I'm now 50+). My parents and grandparents all went to Russell's. We don't live so close these days (1+ hr away), but still get out there a bit to fill the cravings. The way the meat is shaved and the (original) BBQ sauce is the same as it has ALWAYS been. It's always consistent. As for a comment about the floor being uneven? Neither myself nor my mother who uses a walking aid has ever noticed such a thing - regardless of room we're in. Now - I will say this - if you're expecting a 'normal BBQ joint' type of experience, Russell's may not be for you. That's not what it is. It definitely has its own way of doing things. Its own taste. But that's what's been so good for almost 100 years!!! However, they have recently added offerings to the menu to also appeal to that type of taste. New meats, new sides, new sauces. My opinion is you can find those things anywhere. But to enjoy some delicious nostalgia and great classics, try one of the original sandwiches (beef or pork), chicken, or ribs and douse it in that one-of-a-kind magical BBQ sauce. And don't skip fries - sop some sauce up with them too. Their coleslaw is as it has always been. Delicious with a generous sliced pickle to top it off. If you want to venture into newer offerings, do so. But if you want a similar nostalgic experience, it's not in newer sides and meals that weren't even on the menu in your childhood (which it seems like some people ordered while wondering why it wasn't the same). I think Russell's is staying true to their roots, while modernizing some additional offerings. I'm glad they're doing that and think they need to. But for me, I'm there for the classics. And I'm so glad they still exist. There's nothing comparable out there. And I've never found them to not be consistent in those areas. Kiddieland may be long gone - but I'm so glad the gem that Russell's is still exists in its original location (some other locations have come and gone over the years). I'm hoping it'll be there for new generations to continue to enjoy.

I went in to recapture childhood memories. As the saying…read moregoes: "You CAN'T go home again." The quality of the ribs was poor. Reminded me of low budget Sonny's in the south. The service is quick and friendly. None of the employees seems to be overjoyed to be there. The dining area has not changed much over decades. It has a warm and homey feel. It is not SMOQUE!
