It's not very well advertised, but PWG has an amazing gunsmith, William. I took my CZ in for a trigger install, and it came out perfectly. Not only that, but he identified and corrected a serious problem with one of my pins that I didn't even know about. An issue that could've been a fatal problem for me, as this pistol is one of my primary carry weapons. Also, I'm not too good at keeping my gun clean, and he deep cleaned it for me - spic and span. I will definitely be taking any future gunsmithing jobs to Will at PWG. read more

I went for event was late due to traffic then on checking in they wanted me to sign documents but that was if I was going to shoot and I wasn't finally I said no I am done and just went in class room. Plus I had done everything on line prior to getting to event. read more

Fun Fact: gun ranges are an essential service! --- The Hollywood of gun ranges - very large indoor range, with A.C. - nicely painted walls and great customer service. They offer training, memberships, different size ranges (25, 50 and 100 yard). They are located in an industrial area with their own parking lot. They stock a wide variety of firearms, ammo, targets, accessories and have a seamless system for line, purchases, checking out, etc. Inside the range, I've been greeted by the staff, they have given my pointers, and I feel absolutely safe. For your first time, you do have to take a safety quiz to get your safety card. The safety card allows you to be able to come back and utilize range. For my first time, I passed it 100% and had no issues understanding the material. It is super important to read all the safety rules and abide by them. You can also make reservations (highly recommended) ahead of time. Thanks guys! read more

Had another excellent experience at the Poway Gun Range this weekend. Took the 8-hour required CCW course with instructor Tom F. and found it one of the most informative days of my long life. The class was well-paced and packed in a great deal of knowledge in those 8 hours. The instructor was well prepared with his presentation while allowing for many questions to which he always provided complete responses with appropriate respect for the questioner. Took my 92x RDO compact in to get night sights installed. They messed up the finish on the slide and the front sight looks slightly bent to the right. Didn't have the time to talk to anyone about it because I wash in a rush to get to work. Not mad, just wish better care was taken for someone else's property. read more

I've been coming here off for a number of years, have purchased firearms and used the range, and have had a number of different experiences. While I've never been overly impressed with PWG, they are an easily accessible range that is only a short drive away. Being both close and convenient, I was willing to overlook a lot. I was willing to overlook that their prices are consistently about 10% higher than competitors further south. I was willing to overlook the fact that when purchasing a firearm, I had to show the gun counter staff how to properly clear and operate a shotgun so that they could demonstrate safe handling back to me (per Ca DOJ requirement) But it was my last experience that really made me question why I keep coming back... and here it is. I went online and reserved a lane for a Saturday. I knew it would be busy, so always smart to book a lane in advance. There is a $5 reservation fee for non members that I gladly paid as it meant that I would have a guaranteed lane when I arrived. Sadly that was not the case. Even with a range reservation, I ended up waiting for quite a while. Once a lane opened up, I went and started the check in process which is fairly standard, or so I thought. Apparently PWG now requires over ear protection (which is not clearly listed on their website, it just says "approved" ear protection"), so I was stuck either buying new over ear protection, or leaving. I had already been waiting some time, so I was determined to get on the range. I purchased the ear-pro and finally got on my lane. Time on the lane was fairly standard. The fun part of the lane time was the guy next to me with the braked SCAR 17s. Not necessarily anyone's fault, but any avid shooter knows how much fun it is to be next to a braked .308 indoors. And so finally when it was time to check out, after the entire experience thus far, I noticed my total seemed high. When I asked about it, they informed they automatically include a 10% gratuity that is completely optional. I mean, its great that its optional, but I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't asked. It's not like they were forthcoming about it. So in summary, I don't think I'll be back. Good luck and all the best PWG. Edit to respond to the owners comment: I've seen you say on multiple reviews (including this one) that there is no automatic gratuity and that it's completely optional. My experience was that the gratuity was added by the PWG team member at the time of transaction, and I could choose to opt out. I guess you are technically correct that it isn't "automatically" added, but rather manually added with the option to take it back off. The fact remains that I was not informed of said gratuity when it was added and was luckily enough to notice before finalizing the transaction. Reading a few of your more recent reviews, it looks like others are having the same experience. It seems that there is a discrepancy between the policy you are stating in response to reviews and customer's actual experiences. read more

I would like to give a huge shout out to an amazing and certified gunsmith, his name is Will and he works at the only five star gun range in California. I had an issue with my Kali 9 and he identified the problem right away. He called me a couple of times and explained the complete issue in full detail. He also explained how he repaired the weapon. I have never had such a superb experience with customer service from a gunsmith in my life. I highly recommend Will to be your go-to gunsmith. Five stars hands down. Clean Range. Firearms are priced a little high and still won't price match with Turners or Discount Gun Mart. The staff is professional and friendly, except the short Native-American employee who was not nice. She should look for a better job if she really hates coming in to work. Really fun first time shooting here! Safety training is quick and easy, with the brief instructional video followed by a common-sense quiz. The guys at the front are knowledgeable and patient with demo-ing the different models, taking the time to make sure you feel comfortable before heading into the range. For my first time, they recommended the Glock 9mm, which is good to try since you get to experience that traditional handgun recoil, but if you're a beginner like me looking for a comfy experience w virtually no recoil, I would spend more time with the smoother bolt-action precision rifles that will help you aim for (and actually hit) that tiny zombie eyeball target so your amateur self can feel like a badass ; ) My friend and I got the Groupon deal that covers a full day of shooting in the 25 yd range + range safety card and equipment rental for two. Ammo is purchased separately - we ended up spending around $25 for about 50 rounds per each of the 3 guns we tried. Only complaint would be the acoustics, which aren't great even for an indoor range -- double up on ear protection if possible! Luckily the 25 yd tends to be the least busy, but at one point some guys next to us were going wild with their .308, which was so uncomfortably loud and distracting that we had to step back for a break and just wait for them to finish. Otherwise good ventilation with advanced controls and well-stabilized target carriers. Highly recommend Poway for first-timers and would definitely consider taking one of their classes! read more

Update: Staff didn't communicate to me that eyes and ears loaners were discontinued due to health safety concerns. That would have made more sense at the time. Bought a membership for some range time and happened to forget my own eyes and ears. I was expecting to use range loaners only to find out they no longer provide them. Management tossed them out and wants renters to buy from them. If they priced the membership higher with "free eyes and ears" i would have been none the wiser and likely psychologically thought I was getting a good deal. I left the range on principle to return another day. What a downer. read more

The range at this facility is excellent and deserves high marks, the retail store here however is another matter entirely. I have been to the range several times, and have shot in both the regular and the long range shooting areas. They are efficient and well maintained. I had a build project that I needed parts for, and after calling the few local places with no luck, I found a part I was looking for at PWG. I drove the 20mins to go and grab the part. I paid and wasn't handed a receipt or anything, however they asked if I had been there before and pulled up my info from the range. I assumed they would track my purchase through my account, and carried on. My project didn't work out, and I couldn't end up using the part from PWG (still in the box), so the next chance I got to drive all the way out there, I went to return it for a refund. When I went to return it, the person told me that I could only get store credit per their policy, I told him I wasn't informed of the return policy and received no receipt or paperwork to indicate that statement, and I would like to get a refund to my credit card, he got authorization from another gent to go ahead and refund me as my email address was written incorrectly in their system, and that's why I received nothing. After about an hour of the guy trying to get it processed in their machine etc. he showed me it kept changing the refund amount from $80.80 to just $0.80 but thought it might be visual, and if it shows up incorrectly on my card statement to come back, and they'll try something like a cash refund instead. I tried to be understanding and agreed. Several days later the refund showed up as only $0.80 and not $80.80. So when I had the time yet again to drive all the way up there. I showed up at 10AM when they open, to try and get this completed. After a long conversation with the sales person that was there, repeatedly telling her the previous situation, and showing her the written statement from the guy who helped me on the back of the paperwork they gave me the last time, explaining the whole thing, she eventually said she needed to get help, and left me there for about 15 mins. A new gent ( John McKenna) greeted me, and informed me that he was the director of the range side of the house, and that everyone from retail that could issue a check or a refund was in a meeting. He invited me to wait in their range VIP room while I waited on him to get someone from the meeting to help me. I waited there another 45 mins before John informed me that someone would be entering my refund into the system and it should be processed. It was an extremely frustrating experience, John however rather than being abrupt and matter-of-fact about their policies, like the other people I dealt with, he listened to my situation, and went beyond his responsibility to check on me, and keep me informed. I expressed that this was multiple trips and lots of time spent simply trying to get a simple transaction completed, that all of us had done at one time or another in minutes at any other retail space. I felt that the people in charge of the retail management were too important to take any time to address the situation, yet also seemed unwilling to ensure that at least one person on the retail floor was trained enough to be able to handle any potential issue such as this. Before leaving I told John that I have no record of this new refund or receipt and that I would just have to wait several days again to see if it was processed, and this time for the correct amount. He gave his card with all his information and asked me to call him in a few days if I didn't see the refund come through, and he would take the next step without me having to yet again travel out to their store. He followed up with me in a short time via email with a screenshot of the refund transaction from their system, and all the transaction IDs etc. He is an example of good customer relations and leadership, the retail side should look to him as an example of how to treat their customers, and how to properly handle people and problems. I appreciate his help when the retail management was too important to properly train their staff, or care about leaving someone there for over an hour (arrived at 10AM left after 11AM, and this was the second time there for more than an hour for one transaction) for assistance. read more

Not enough help at the counter. Waited in line on the weekend for almost a hour to pickup a purchase. Only two people behind the counter working. They know the process takes time, so they need to manage it better. Each customer takes 30 minutes. Not acceptable to only have 2 people working the counter. They have many employees walking around. read more

Private lessons cancelled 3pm the night before lessons. Instruction was scheduled 2 months in advance. I called multiple times (including the day before the instruction) to confirm the appt. Never any sign of problems. I never asked for a deal or discount. Nothing I could have done to ensure a smoother process. Here's the funny part, they clearly understand the importance of sticking to a schedule because THEY CHARGE YOU IF YOU CANCEL within 72 hours before your appointment, but laughed at me on the phone when I asked if they should be held to the same standard. They said "we are sorry, something came up and we have to reschedule". Would they have accepted the same reason from you or me? No. And they confirmed as much on the phone with me tonight. I don't trust corporations with double standards and neither should you. read more

I had an amazing experience at PWG Range. All the guys were so nice and helpful. Anytime I needed something someone was always right there ready to help. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the most friendly team. Really excellent group of guys here. John is so patient and passionate about his work. As a former cop he gives you access to his extensive training on firearms and offers his card with his email in case you have any questions after the class. I didn't realize how difficult shooting was but after learning from John I felt so confident. I'm excited to become a member here. Lastly, the value for the class far exceeded the price. You get to shoot a good amount and also the ear and eye protection is included which I thought was a great deal. All around A+ for this range. read more

My friends got me to join for the summertime and I had an extremely poor experience there the hundred yard range lanes constantly break down and I would bring this to their attention weekly. They attempted to fix them, but it spoils your shooting mode the service people behind the range check in somewhere nice many were rude . They don't disclose that when you check in you only get one hour. You have to know that you can block how many hours you want per day a little disappointing when you bring your family and they're like sorry also, if you ever have to call them on the phone, you're gonna wait a minimum 20 minutes to 30 minutes Yet as you pull up there's nobody at the counter. I've complained to management crickets but boy when they gotta get your money, they sure blow up your phone at this point. I would not recommend this place until they really clean up their customer service. I even had an issue buying a scope. I didn't know much about scopes. I was looking for help. I asked the the guy behind the counter if I could take a very expensive scope into the range to see if the pics are good for me at my age I'm looking for a strong optics. He said no they cannot leave the showcase, but you could hold it up and look at it from the Cell area and look at it to the wall so I said if I buy it and I see that I don't like it can I return it and they said no we would take a return but there's I believe a restocking fee so I went over to Bass Pro and they had a special tool that they contemporary put the scope on a fake gun and you could look out the window no problem no issue make a long story short I bought $4500 with a rifle scopes from Bass Pro. I brought this all to their attention, I even brought my scopes to the Gun Range to sign them in and they just shrugged their shoulders like oh well you're a difficult customer poor attitude. My groomsmen took me here to celebrate my bachelor party getaway. We had a great time shooting the pistol, rifles, shotgun and sniper rifle. The staff are very friendly and knowledge about the guns so don't be afraid to ask questions. Their website is out of date so if you're having problems signing it or filling out the proper information then just go do it at the place in person. If you don't want to buy protected ear protection or glasses then bring your own. It was fun shooting the guns and we did encounter so issues but the staff was able to help us. Just remember to follow the safety rules because the other shooters at the range might give you a tough time about it. read more

First time coming down to a San Diego firing range to shoot with friends. Fully indoors and allows rifles at a 50 meter range. Gun rental was $10 and lanes were about $15 per person. Sadly because of COVID, i couldn't rent a rifle but at least they were selling bullets to non-members. Staff members were very helpful and friendly. 10/10 experience overall read more

First time in a long time utilizing their range. The shop is great, The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. My less than perfect review is based on the inconvenience of having to drive all the way back to the range after we left and arrived back at home only to realize they forgot to give us back our ID's. When we arrived to pick up our ID's, they had a stack of forgotten ID's. Clearly this is a flaw in their system. Even after we left, if their are two ID's for a particular lane, and the lane is now empty, The employee could have noticed this and given us a courtesy call. Instead, 25 minutes there, 25 minutes back to pick up our ID's is incredibly inconvenient. read more

Beautiful store but with that comes high prices. I came in to renew my FSC and to look at Sig P365. Ultimately, I purchased the P365. Following that I looked around at other firearm stores in San Diego and was unhappy to find out I paid $60 more than all other SD firearm storefronts. Discount Gun Mart and Ammo bros both have the P365 for $719, PWG sells for $779 -- 8% markup vs other locations. I looked at other firearms as well, the Springfield Hellcat OSP is $599 everywhere in SD, at PWG it's $633 - 5.6% markup vs other locations. When picking up my firearm, I expressed this concern and asked what could be done in good faith. I also shared that I was also looking at the Hellcat OSP. Nobody in the store could make a decision, they had to call "The GM" -- I picked up on aggravation in having to make the call, which resulted in a range coin. Thanks but no thanks. I understand it was my fault for not checking prices before making a purchase. I'm leaving this review in hopes I can save some folks some money when they're in the market for a new firearm. I will not be over paying for my Hellcat at this location. read more
