This review is for the amazing stylist Devyn, right from the start she had a warm, welcoming personality. I let her know I was interested in having a wash, blow dry, and silk press. Devyn was very enthusiastic and excited to get right into it. It's been extremely challenging to find a reliable stylist in the North County area, so Devyn's willingness to really take her time, ask questions and be patient with my textured natural hair was so very appreciate. I felt like she really has a high regard and respect for her craft and it really shows in the work that she out puts. I feel so blessed to model her beautiful work and for her first silk press I think she did absolutely amazing. I visited Bellus Academy in Poway for a facial with Tracie Kempen. From the moment I arrived the staff and Tracie were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The cleanliness and atmosphere of the spa went far beyond my expectations, especially for a school setting. Tracie explained each step of the facial as she went, and she consistently checked in to make sure I was comfortable, which made the experience feel even more relaxing and personalized. I have had excellent wash and blow dry as well as facials. The hair took longer than a traditional salon but less than $20 makes it easy to relax. The facial area is rows of cots with curtains between them, imagine ER. But close your eyes, soft music and gentle touch is so relaxing. Skin Glows! I've been here multiple times. I've actually recommended this place to a couple people as well. After today's experience, NEVER AGAIN. I totally understand these are students trying to learn and get real life experience and that's why I come here as to support them. With patience and understanding, the right frame of mind, and a good positive attitude. However, today was different. Chris, one of the "educators" got involved just as we were getting started. He was extremely negative and condescending to me and his staff. It was very unprofessional and very rude and an absolute horrible representation of this company and the initiative for these aspiring students. WOW, I can't believe what just happened as he escalated things so quickly and so unprofessionally. Clients beware of this. Future students do your due diligence. read more

Awesome facial from Tracie K! I get facials every month so I speak from experience. 5 star service from start to finish. Check in was easy, keep in mind this is a school so don't expect a real spa environment. Even though the facials are done in a huge room divided by curtains it was still very quiet and relaxing! I absolutely love the haircut Garrett (IG: @garrettsflows) gave me! I went for the haircut + blowout style ($18 + Venmo tip), which included a refreshing hair wash as well. Garrett gave me face-framing layers and a square cut in the back, and I couldn't be happier with the results. My appointment was at 6 PM and wrapped up around 9 PM. The space was professional, and they played great pop music during my visit. At first, I was a bit hesitant about getting my hair done at a beauty school, but now I can't recommend it enough! A professional instructor checked in on every step, which really put me at ease. Garrett, along with the other students, was super kind and welcoming. I could really feel a sense of community among them. Garrett's attention to detail was amazing, and the final cut turned out just like the reference picture I showed him. I always come here for my haircuts and I've never had any issues, which is why my past experience was especially disappointing. I had a scheduled appointment but ended up waiting over an hour past my appointment time. When I went to talk to the front desk, I was told my name hadn't been written down, which was frustrating and felt careless. I understand this is a learning environment, but having an appointment overlooked took up a significant amount of my time. I've always appreciated the school in the past, but this visit didn't reflect the level of organization or attentiveness I was used to. I wasn't able to get my haircut after all. read more

People, save your money and go to a community college. Paying more just to come to Bellus does not mean you will get a better education/experience than a community college. I've taken the Cosmo-barber route in 2017-2018. aside from books, I've gained no hands on experience as they do favor people here. I've received mostly hair cut clients, while others received hair color. You learn the most out in the real world. Cross-over to barber was a joke as I basically was self teaching. This means you could be learning a different chapter, while the barber students are learning the materials that you had already learned from the Cosmo side. Yes, the program is that unorganized. Save y'all's $$$ and go to a free community college! read more

I visited Bellus for a facial today from Maddy, an esthetician student, and I was genuinely impressed! From start to finish, she was incredibly thorough, taking the time to explain everything and making sure my skin concerns were addressed. Her touch was gentle and relaxing, yet she worked effectively on my skin. The results are remarkable -- my skin looks brighter, smoother, and feels so much healthier already. I honestly didn't expect such visible improvement from a student, but Maddy clearly has a real talent and a wonderful, caring approach. If you're looking for a fantastic facial, I highly recommend booking with Maddy. She's going to be an amazing esthetician one day soon -- she already is one in my book! read more

i'm sad to leave a negative review of this place, because i usually always a great experience here. i went in for a wella smooth filler treatment and a trim, and the treatment was taking a while and they were going to close soon for the night so another girl helped out with the treatment. after the treatment, they had to flat iron my hair to set in the treatment and i have naturally curly hair so it takes longer to straighten my hair so there were two girls helping out with that as well. once i was ready to go i made a mental note that i have to go back home and touch up my hair with a flat iron because the roots were left really curly, but it wasn't a huge deal. when i got home, i started to section my hair to straighten it, and noticed the treatment was left in my hair at the nape of my neck. i then showered immediately which unfortunately just reversed the treatment i had just paid for, and i called the next day to explain what happened, they offered me a complimentary shampoo and style, but that was pointless to me and i had already shampooed and styled my hair at home. i feel like i wasted my time and money on the treatment which is really disappointing. i would just advise anybody getting the treatment to make sure everything is good before leaving the salon! read more

I visited Morgan Bartlett for an anti aging facial, right away she established a very comfortable, relaxing, and professional environment for me. The facial was so soothing and rejuvenating, I felt extremely tranquil during my visit as well as afterwards. I come to the Poway student salon multiple times to dye the hair or just for the facial. This is a school, so my expectation for sure is different than go to a professional salon or spa. However, the students are all very serious with good attitude. The environment is good and they use good products. The price is a deep discount compared to the business salon or spa. I am happy with them each time. I never give them hard task but for the packages I chose they can always finish up with high satisfaction. I highly recommend the student salon in Poway. read more

Recently I had asked for a lash lift, from this location and my lash tech was the lovely Lizette! She was super gentle and super patient with me and listened very intentionally to my comments and concerns before AND during the process! My experience with her was wonderful, and as a person who can't sit still for very long Lizette made the short 20 minute process feel even shorter! She was friendly and kind, and my lashes came out great! I came in today and had a haircut with Marisa. I was happy with my cut. She is pretty far along in school, so it was pretty fast compared wth my typical appointments. I will definetly be in to see her again before she graduates. My only negative comment to Bellus is that they are not open on the weekends and they take their last appointment quite early, so I won't be able to make it there again. I am very sad about that as I have always been very satisfied with their services. read more
