I recently had an "awesome" experience at the Discount Gun Mart in Santee. Initially, I worked with Chandler who provided insight into the changes I should make to my current weapon to comply with all regulations. After parts arrived, Jared was able to explain the intricacies of CA laws regarding "AR type" rifles. Between the two of them, their knowledge of firearms and CA regulations allowed me to make purchasing decisions that ensured that my rifle met all legal requirements in CA. If you have any questions about legality of specific rifles or types of rifles (black powder vs standard cartridges), I would recommend a stop by Discount Guns on a weekday when they're not busy. I came in to take the test for the FSC. Really easy process to check in, take the exam and get the certificate (if you pass). The cert is $25 and they offered to laminate the card for $1. It wasn't busy when I came in and was helped right away. They do offer appointments online. The safe is friendly and welcoming. Plenty of parking. read more

The overall store was fine and the group I was with had fun but some of the staff were just flat out snobbish and rude. The bald guy with glasses and industrial piercing felt it was necessary to sarcastically point us to the waiver terminal, consistently speaking in a tone reminiscent of a bratty teenager as he processed our ammo and range. The small man with a crew cut and Superman tattoo on his arm just constantly mad dogged my friends and I. Everyone else seemed fine. Reserve your spot to guarantee a lane. Staff is very knowledgeable and the clientele are mostly experienced shooters so you don't have to worry about newbies. Parking can be a pain but this is my go to range. read more

I don't usually leave a review unless they really wow me. Today I had to with the great customer service I received. Josh helped me with all my questions and concerns. 711/25 - went there and made reservations on a lane. $5 rsvp. Walk in to the right and pay in advance. I brought my own everything to save money. They sell ammo, use their guns and targets for a small fee. Bring your own eye and ear protection. Clean and organized inside. The lane I was on I didn't like the controls for the distance compared to the other lane I was on before. Next time I'm going in the lane I want. 5 stars. read more

Hello I took a class with alisha . She made me feel super comfortable, showing me how to handle my firearm . Safety was the most important Then how to load and and point safely at target . Basic fundamentals. Then off to range . I was hesitant but she she made me feel comfortable she taught me how to stand and hold firearm correctly . I had a blast thank you for all of your help. I arrived this past Monday at 2:00PM. I walked in and stood by the door, behind two other customers. There were two guys behind the counter closing pick-ups. Neither acknowledged me as a waiting customer. Ten minutes later, the next guy was helped. Again, no acknowledgment to me or the guy in front of me. I left five minutes later. When I got home, I browsed online prices for their competitor. Although the store name has discount in it, their prices were noticeably higher than their competitor. I hit their competitor's store at 2:00PM the very next day. Upon walking to the ammo counter, I grabbed a number and a guy walked from the back and asked his coworker next to him if I had been helped. We discussed the ammo I needed and I was out the door ten minutes later. Discount Gun Mart has lost my business. read more

Johnathan and Joe are the best reps for sure, went above and beyond in everything from showing us a couple of firearms and even the more expensive ones just because my son was very interested in the higher ends. Gun stores and shooting ranges tend to have some of the most pretentious and nerdy staff within the service industry. Every staff member that I interacted with at DGM was humble, helpful and knowledgeable. Check-in and checkout at their shooting range was a breeze. Plus, their ammo prices were fair. read more

Nice range and people who work there besides the grumpy ass old guy who come up to me and instantly starts insulting my shooting saying my groupings where off and that I had my fingers behind the slide which I obviously didn't I turn back around to mind my business and continue and he's like I can have you shooting a hell of a lot better in a hour for $100.00 and that's when I realize this guy works here Great way to loose business don't have your staff insult costumers especially after I just told him that this is only my third time shooting a glock I don't care how great you're shot is everyone starts somewhere and it's not a smart idea to piss off people who like your establishment when there's plenty of gun ranges around town lol He's there on Thursdays and Sundays steer clear if you like leaving with a smile on your face I added a picture of the target he was complaining about and its honestly not that bad for a beginner IMO read more

My go to local range in SD. Close off the highway, convenient, staff is knowledgeable, range rental is reasonable and space is clean and has all your necessities. As for the shop, I've never purchased a weapon from here, I'm just a regular range-goer, so I can't speak on it. But looks like they have a wide selection of firearms and equipment. After being rebuffed at the Morena Blvd. store, "Sold out", and practically demanding that the counter 'clerk' (he was no salesman, trust me) call the Santee store for inventory, I drove here to purchase 9mm ammo, which was advertised at a relatively good price. No problem! I was greeted upon entering the store and purchased the ammo. My shooting partner also made a purchase. It's too bad this location is inconvenient for both of us. read more

This is the 2nd time going there to buy ammo and walked in 2nd or 3rd upon their opening. Both times had to wait close to 15 minutes both times while they waited on other customers who came in after me to shoot. This time I walked out, never to go there again. read more

Went to the range with friends to try out their G19, G17 and XD45 since I was deciding between these options. The range was appointment was easy to set up and was clean and the staff was friendly and professional. After our session I looked around the store and Chandler helped me out. Great guy and super helpful. With no intention to purchase that day, I ended up purchasing an XD9 because the service was great and even priced matched with another LGS. Although it is a drive for me, customer service goes a long way with me and they have definitely earned a repeat customer. I'll be back soon to break in the new toy. read more

Let's preface this by saying I am a 38-year old mom with some exposure to guns and shooting, but not a ton. I want to get more comfortable handling firearms so I took a private lesson with Alisha. She was amazing! I loved working with a female instructor (honestly nothing against the male instructors but I definitely felt more relaxed with a female). She is incredibly knowledgeable, to the point, and she even offered to load my magazines so I could spend more time shooting. I'm sure all the instructors are great, but if you're a woman intimidated by guns, I strongly consider giving Alisha a try. Just don't book your appointment when I want to go. ;) read more

This is the place to go for all your firearm needs. The customer service there is by far some of the best and all the employees have great attitudes even when being a little overwhelmed with the constant influx of customers (I swear these guys don't take no breaks) looking to either purchase a firearm or accessories. They're also very knowledgeable. My man Will H is the is an absolute stud! He always goes above and beyond with his help which makes for a great transaction. They also have a nice indoor range and they really do try to accommodate all shooters both with lane reservations and without. Though making a reservation is highly recommended during these times, don't let that stop you from heading down if you didn't make one. You may have to wait a bit but they will do their best to get you in and on a lane. I've been down there more than a handful of times without a reservation and have been able to get a lane every time. Also if you're gonna go to the range often check out the memberships they have. They offer 4 or 5 different memberships that fit just about everyone and depending on what membership you get, you may be able to get between 5-10% of accessories and I believe up to 5% off of firearms (may be 3% but a discount is always good). read more

I was afraid of the gun not being in stock, but I was wrong. They had the gun, whereas their competitors didn't. Awesome. The DROS process was automated and quick. BTW, I waited in line for about 30 minutes before being helped. Return 10 days later, gun now out of stock, but I got mine! Anyways, staff helped me pick out an optic on sale that day the gun was released to me. Yes, you will come across crappy reviews of this place. Some valid issues, but a lot are just customer Karens posting nonsense. Again, been coming to this range for years, no issues with staff and/or the services they provide. read more

Ok, so my 1st purchase at DGM was sometime around 1998 at the Morena store. Good experience as far as I can remember. Then, over 20 years later I have time for shooting and purchase another firearm with them. They were great in my retesting, advise on firearms. DGM can be busy so either try and time your visit on times when people aren't off work & not on weekends. If you do go when it's busy, understand that there are usually 3-4 employees but this isn't Trader Joe's. You don't just grab an item and self check out. Be patient. This isn't fast food! Personally, I have had times where it was too busy and I came back at a better time. It is what it is. Prices are as good as anywhere in SD, same with selection. Granted, I've only been to 2-3 other stores in SD. But DGM is my local shop and I have enjoyed my experiences there. My wife has taken (and continues to take) class at DGM and is not only comfortable with firearms, but she is working towards her CCW in part because of DGM. read more

The range fee is very reasonable, the gun rental costs are also reasonable, they have a great variety to rent, they have a nice selection of guns for sale and accessories. Very lean gun shop + range with excellent customer service. They have a respectable selection of rifles, handguns and shotguns, Small ammo selection, but oddly huge variety of ear protection. Ken, my arms dealer was friendly, knowledgable, and professional. I came in looking at a specific 9mm low-end firearm (sd9ve) and he presented options +/- my price range. After a bit of deliberation, I settled on a Springfield XD9 which was a bit above my budget. He honored a sales price which wasn't available until next month which was the sweetener. Every other person I interacted with was kind as well. During the 10 day wait period you are permitted to use your firearm at the in-store range which is cool. The range itself is small. Processing the paperwork and getting a lane can take a bit of time. Come before 11:00am on weekends if you don't want to wait. I think there's like 8 lanes. Lanes 1-4 use a more modern system for moving the target down range, the others use an older system that's tricky to operate but there are instructions. Sound insulation is good. read more
