This is our go - to pizza place for when we have a bunch of tween boys over. You can order a bunch of pizzas plus wings for a reasonable price. The kids love the plain pizzas but there are enough options for the vegetarian parents and the health conscious (they have salads, and you can add grilled chicken to any salad!). This is a different spin. I gave them a 5 star rating for their being truthful. I went in at the recommendation of my sister. She went in and ordered days before and someone informed her that it was halal. A somali brother I know ordered it one night (4 boxes) for an event at the masjid. Everyone ate it and thought it was halal. When I went in, I looked for the halal sign. No sign. I looked at the website again. No halal sign. I searched for zabiha certification. Nope. I had my sister on speaker phone. I read the menu. I asked the 2 brothers in the front. They said, no not halal. All beef but not halal. I said to my sister did you hear that? It's not halal. She said, no no it is because the masjid has gotten it and I know people who have eaten it and they only eat halal and I just bought it. I asked again, Anything halal? No, it is all beef but not halal. I said thank you and left. My sister said, no no no wait. Phone call chain. She called a sister, who called a brother, I called my husband, who called a brother who called another brother and this went on. A number of people stated, they were told by the owner of the establishment that it is halal. Everyone wanted to know and the result is they all thought it was halal and on jumah Friday discussion, we all agreed it is between them and Allah and everyone who ate it w the intention of believing it was halal, no wrong on them. The Canadian bacon? It's turkey. Not pork. (No rumors its not pork) My sister saw the wrapper ingredients. The owner did remove from Yelp on 11/20/25 after 8pm the establishment served halal. May Allah make it easy on them to serve halal for the community (Ameen) and we would absolutely support them if they did. The other day, I ordered a Medium Supreme Combination Pizza for $20.99. Straight off the menu, no added toppings. This is an average pizza at best. It looks great, but the dough isn't very airy. My middle schooler insisted on pizza for her school's rehearsal. There were 45 kids and a handful of adults, and they were quite satisfied by 4 large cheese pizzas, a large pepperoni pizza, a large veggie pizza and 4 dishes (those deep foil ones) with chicken wings. I got plain wings with sauces on the side, but they still had a good kick to them. I managed to get a slice of veggie pizza and a chicken wing, and both were good. It's not haute cuisine, but then it's not trying to be. The whole experience was positive. The guys I ordered and picked up from were pleasant and energetic. We finally ordered from Purple Pepper Pizza after being in the neighborhood for a while now. It doesn't look like much on the outside but their pizza was really good and fresh for a reasonable price too. We ordered the cheese garlic bread and the make your own pizza with salami, pepperoni and jalapeño. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh just like your classic takeout pizza. It was also priced reasonably, unlike a lot of other local pizza places (I love those places too, don't get me wrong, but always nice to have a budget conscious option). I ordered off the online menu through Grubhub. Extra points for the order arriving 10 - 20 minutes earlier than expected. I ordered the garlic bread, tiramisu and a small Claremont pizza. I really liked the garlic bread. It's great to reheat too. The tiramisu had great flavor but melted a little. I stuck it in the refrigerator upon arrival. When I did eat it, it was a little watery, but fine. The pizza is a good pizza. Not too many toppings which included marinated artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, feta and mozzarella. No complaints about the amount of cheeses & garlic, but I couldn't taste or see the tomato. Wish there had been more artichokes. I picked this place off DoorDash on a Friday without much more info than the name. Big mistake. This place is comparable to pizza at 7-11. You are better off getting a Red Baron from the grocery store. Avoid at all costs. Also two of my wings were a completely different color than the others and the amount of dressing they give you for your salad is enough to cover maybe two leaves of lettuce. Best Pizza in Temescal And Best Price also. I went to Mountain Mikes on Telegraph earlier this week and ordered a Medium Pepperoni with Jalepeno. it was about $18.00. I ordered a medium drink to have while waiting so my total for the pizza and Pepsi came out to just under $20.00. At Purple I can get a large pizza with jalepeno for $10.83 same price as Little Caesar and ordering on the phone for pick up is much easier with Purple. My order was confirmed, the money was taken from my account and and I was sent an email confirmation with all the details. You have to understand that I've had a long, complicated relationship with Purple Pepper. Back at its old venue (which was much bigger, airier, and more welcoming) the pizza was decent and they made a variety of other things. Because it was cheaper than Zachary's and delivered, it was a staple at Rockridge-area birthday parties. They spent a ridiculously long period remodeling a few years ago, and then they made the mysterious move. Their new location is across the street from Oakland Technical High school. Since they have moved here, they have begun to cater mostly to high school students who have off-campus lunch. The shop is small, cramped, stinky, and dingy. The pizza quality has declined- mind you, it was never gourmet, but it has become poorly-made and greasy. It's disgusting. It's revolting. It's awe-inspiringly terrible pizza. Never have I had worse. Once I walked in here and heard the employees arguing about how they weren't going to pass the health examination. I have never been back, and for good reason. read more

The apartment complex had a bunch of Purple Pepper Pizza door knob flyer things, so we decided to give them a try. After some general indecisiveness and a little debate, we choose to get a sausage and pepperoni pizza and a mushroom and tomato pizza. After some waiting, the pizza arrives on time. We dig in. The crust was sorta overcooked and very very slightly burnt. The toppings were great and plentiful. Overall, I was pretty happy with the pizza. Not the best pizza by a long shot, but a MUCH better alternative to more commercial fare like Dominoes or Pizza Hut. The spicy chicken wings were terrible though. They weren't very spicy, were dry, overcooked, and tiny. I'll never get them again. As I don't really order pizza that often, I'll probably order from a different place the next time I have the craving. I walked in the door of our building to find a HUGE stack of coupons for Purple Pepper Pizza on the "free bench" in the lobby. Having just moved to the area and not sure who or where this place was, I figured this was meant to be and called them up. I ordered a deep dish pizza with spinach and mushrooms (you know, Zachary's style?), paid over the phone with my credit card and was told 45 minutes to an hour for delivery. Pretty standard, right? So I start doing my normal "just got home from work" stuff, like feeding the cats, getting the dog's dinner ready, checking my email, finding out what's on TV...wait. Is that? Here's the driver buzzing at the front door and it's only been 35 minutes! I almost wet myself! Pizza was piping hot and looked just like it came straight from the oven, not all slumped onto one side like the guy was driving in the Indy 500 on the way to the house. They even bring you a free 2-liter of soda with your order! Sweet! Since then we have ordered from them 2 more times and each time the service is very consistent. Even on a Friday night they were able to get us our pizza on time, nice and hot. Our search ends here for our new favorite pizza joint! read more

I've ordered from this pizza place off of Grubhub.com a handful of times since moving to the area. Last night was another of those times. My husband and I had a friend over, wanted a decent pizza after 10pm, and were NOT disappointed. We ordered their Rosemary Chicken pizza. It came just the way I like it. Crust was crispy, not cardboard and NOT soggy. It also wasn't your typical "cheap" pizza. They did not skimp on the toppings, the cheese, or the sauce, which is a little on the sweet side. Not in a bad way though. Delivery service was quick, and the large pizza plus a 2 liter of RC cola definitely didn't break the bank. Puple Pepper Pizza has NEW OWNERS!!!! Its REALLY CLEAN INSIDE. NO MORE CHICKEN, JUST PIZZA. I think that helps keep it a saner environment. My original rating for this place was a five, based on good, consistent pizza, nice people, and dependable delivery. Then the pizza quality slipped, and I changed it to a 3.5. (They really need to stop using frozen crust.) I'm lowering it further after trying their awful gyros sandwich. Meat was dry and instead of the traditional yogurt sauce, they poured ranch dressing on it, which turns very oily when exposed to the heat of the meat. Disgusting... and just plain wrong! Also tried their lasagna. It's more sauce than noodles, cheese or meat, and very salty... but if you don't mind salty and super-duper sauce-heavy lasagna, go for it. I walked in and ordered an extra large Supreme Pizza. Carry out.... I am impressed. Friendly and polite service. The pizza was EXACTLY as I ordered. Talk about DELICIOUS!!!!!!! Don't expect anything spectacular. This is a basic pizza place, nothing fancy. Typical crust, typical sauce, typical cheese and toppings.
