    Combination Pizza
    Steve D.

"Purple Pepper Pizza" offers a fair pizza at affordable prices. This pizza place is located in a small strip mall across the street from Oakland Technical High School (aka "Oakland Tech"). The other day, I ordered a Medium Supreme Combination Pizza for $20.99. Straight off the menu, no added toppings. This is an average pizza at best. It looks great, but the dough isn't very airy. The crust isn't crispy. It's like someone used a pre-made pizza dough, and just rolled it out. Honestly, it's just like eating a frozen pizza from the supermarket. So, it's an OK pizza at a fair price.

We finally ordered from Purple Pepper Pizza after being in the neighborhood for a while now. It doesn't look like much on the outside but their pizza was really good and fresh for a reasonable price too. We ordered the cheese garlic bread and the make your own pizza with salami, pepperoni and jalapeño. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh just like your classic takeout pizza. It was also priced reasonably, unlike a lot of other local pizza places (I love those places too, don't get me wrong, but always nice to have a budget conscious option). I definitely recommend ordering from here and I will be back in the future too!

I ordered off the online menu through Grubhub. Extra points for the order arriving 10 - 20 minutes earlier than expected. I ordered the garlic bread, tiramisu and a small Claremont pizza. I really liked the garlic bread. It's great to reheat too. The tiramisu had great flavor but melted a little. I stuck it in the refrigerator upon arrival. When I did eat it, it was a little watery, but fine. The pizza is a good pizza. Not too many toppings which included marinated artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, feta and mozzarella. No complaints about the amount of cheeses & garlic, but I couldn't taste or see the tomato. Wish there had been more artichokes. If you're looking for something to hit the spot, I would recommend this business.

My husband's and my favorite pizza! Fresh and tasty toppings and a crust that's perfectly chewy yet light!

I picked this place off DoorDash on a Friday without much more info than the name. Big mistake. This place is comparable to pizza at 7-11. You are better off getting a Red Baron from the grocery store. Avoid at all costs. Also two of my wings were a completely different color than the others and the amount of dressing they give you for your salad is enough to cover maybe two leaves of lettuce. Caveat emptor, I guess.

The restaurant itself is super cute, and the ordering process is a breeze. The staff were super friendly, and the food came out quickly. I love a good self-serve water station, and they get extra points for having a delicious cucumber water! I was so impressed by the freshness and quality of the food, especially since everything was gluten free. My boyfriend and I both chose the "build your own bowl" option. In my bowl, I chose: - cauliflower rice - crispy chicken - charred broccoli - brussels sprouts - ponzu ginger sauce First of all, my bowl was phenomenal. Every single element was delicious and flavorful. I highly recommend everything I got. It was my perfect bowl! My boyfriend chose: - jasmine rice - paprika chicken - charred broccoli - chimichurri mushrooms - pickled onions - jalapeño lime dressing His bowl was also so delicious. I thought that the chicken tasted like a better, higher quality chipotle chicken. The ingredients were so fresh tasting, and the jalapeño lime dressing was so good. I also wanted to give their desserts a try, so we went with the dark chocolate chip cookie. This was the most "gluten free" tasting thing out of everything we got. The texture of the cookie was unlike normal cookies, but that didn't bother us much. The cookie itself was more on the "less-sweet" side, and was packed with rich dark chocolate. While not exactly my thing, it's worth a try for true dark chocolate lovers! Overall, I was so impressed by kitava. It is the perfect option when you want something healthy and fresh, but do not want to sacrifice flavor. I was absolutely be back!

I will say, if you have somewhere to be *ORDER ONLINE*. I got there and was told to order from the self serve tablet (I could have done this on my phone ahead of time), but I put in my order and sat down to wait for it. At the 22 min mark, the two groups of two behind me got their food before I did, so I went up to the worker behind the bar and asked if my order was ready and I was told mine would be next. All in all- took 32 mins. So again, if you have somewhere to be- order ahead! Food was good. Could definitely tell it was made fresh to order - not only because it took some time but because my friend cauliflower came out PIPING hot. Lots of oil drippings, so if that isn't your thing, may not be for you, but I will say that it was my fav bite. This was a good restaurant- I would say 4 stars for the food alone. BUT if you're in a pinch, either order online or maybe save this spot for when you have more time. Also- I know that good quality food is pricey, this place is no exception. But you pay for what you get and the quality is better than that of fast food.

The black sesame coconut cookie is super buttery and very strong tasting. I recommend a coffee, a dark coffee to go with it. The chicken was melt in your mouth tender. Hands down the best rotisserie chicken I've ever had my life. I used to go to Joinery in Sausalito for rotisserie chicken but not anymore. So good I think I'm willing to move to Temescal just to be close. I got the combo half chicken. It comes with one salad, one side and one sauce for the chicken. The chicken doesn't need any sauce because it's perfectly tasty as it is. However the pesto sauce is delightful. I loved the pesto sauce and highly recommend it. The Club Med salad had everything in it. I am biased because I eat Mediterranean. The Med salad had green olives and gigante beans in it. The beans were still warm. There were so many flavors in this salad. The sheep feta is so fresh in it. High quality. I also loved the roasted cauliflower which is a pain to make at home. It was melt in your mouth tender and goes really well with the lemon tahini sauce and olive oil. All this for $40 and $3 for the cookie. Tip is 18% minimum for the preset lowest option. The lady at the counter was so friendly and kind. The music was lively. All in all, just a super cool place to come eat for the best healthy and tasty food available in North Oakland. I'm absolutely blown away. I was surprised about how good everything was. Might have been the best…read morefood I've had this year. My family ordered 1 appetizer, 4 entrees, and 2 drinks, all shared, and all 4 of us agreed that EVERY single item was phenomenal. That has absolutely NEVER happened before. At most restaurants, there's always at least one thing that someone doesn't like, and often multiple things that multiple people don't like. Not the case here. The appetizer was the spicy basil wings. Very good to start. But little did I know what was coming my way. The drinks were Thai tea and lychee limeade. The Thai tea was normal. As in good, I liked it. The lychee limeade was amazing, had to order another one. I would like to try the mango next time (there will definitely be a next time). Very sour, which I love. I hate lemonade that's not sour enough. Oh and that too, I usually hate limeade, don't really care for lemonade, and don't drink soda. I usually only drink water, juice, or tea (no coffee, alcohol rarely). So that's saying something. The Laos fried spring roll entree was really good. I always liked fried rolls but something about this tasted better. They were Laotian rolls, so maybe that was part of the difference from the ones you get from Pho restaurants. The duck over rice was amazing. I'm not usually one to pick duck, I don't mind it but I usually don't order it, but this was my mom's choice and it was really good. I like the sauce too. The Panang duck curry was so good. My mom doesn't even like curry and she liked it. And the Chiang Mai soup dish, I've never had anything like it. It was still hot after, I don't know, 20 minutes maybe? At the bottom especially. We all ate this together at the end, while the other dishes were in the order I listed them for myself (mostly, kinda switched around a bit eating family style), and generally the same for everyone else. I tasted a tiny bit of the soup in the beginning and thought it was nothing special, like when my spoon was clean it was the first thing I scooped. Only the soup though, none of the stuff inside. Honestly I didn't read what was in it, some crispy noodle or something. I was not sure if I would like it but my sister said she had it in Thailand and liked it so if I didn't like it she could eat it. That ended up not being a problem. Okay so anyway, we started on the soup at the end. To start, it was pretty good. Somehow, every bite we took tasted better and better, for at least like 5-10 bites maybe. At that point, I was thinking it's the best thing I've ever tasted. (But of course that's probably not actually true, and I'm just falling for the recency bias, kind of like how my favorite song changes all the time.) Never had anything like it. I've been missing out. But wow, I have to come back. And I highly recommend this place. Life changing experience honestly. Like if you asked me right now if I wanted to get Japanese or Korean (my other favorites) food or this, I would go here. I honestly wanted more of every single dish, especially the fried spring rolls, duck over rice, duck curry, and soup. Wait a second... that's all the entrees we ordered! Also the limeade. I need to get that again. But I also want to try other stuff next time so I'm torn. I literally need all 4 of these dishes again so I don't know what to do. I hope these dishes aren't seasonal or otherwise temporary. I noticed the menu had a month and year listed (I think it said April 2026 and it's May 3 2026 today) so I believe they update it frequently. If I lived closer I would come 20 times in a row and try every single thing, but unfortunately I live in San Ramon so it's not like I'm trying to go to Oakland every day. Soon though. My sister lives there, if I were her I would go here every day until I was sick of it, if that could ever be possible. I don't know if I could ever enjoy other food this much again. I was also completely sober so it wasn't like I had munchies or anything (felt I should specify being a young adult who grew up in California). Hmm, that gives me an idea for the future though. Even the pricing is fair (no dishes over $30), and the place is nice. Great service too. The only drawbacks are small tables for parties over 4 people, and it's REALLY loud in the restaurant, but well worth it. If you are sensitive to noise I'd recommend earplugs, earmuffs, earbuds, headphones, or something. The place is also relatively small. I'd recommend making a reservation if you plan to go on a Friday or Saturday night. It got busy, very busy. Well our reservation was at 6 and it wasn't crowded yet, a couple tables open, but by the time our food came out the place was absolutely packed and I think people without reservations had to wait to sit. I'm not sure though, I was too focused on the amazing food to care. Anyway, once again, highly recommend and I will be back.

My first thought was figuring out when I was coming back to try it out. Well, it happened! I'm glad I did. From the start, the service was great. I was seated quickly, even though I was solo. I felt a little guilty taking up a table in this busy restaurant, but they were very accommodating. Quickly, I asked for a menu along with recommendations. Even though those recommendations sounded amazing, I already had my mind made up from reading the menu the day I discovered the place. I got the Branzino, and yum, it was!!!! As good as it was, the tables next to me and in front of me had the specialty plate. Heck, I almost ordered one to bring home, but I calmed that urge by taking full bites of my fish and creamy mashed potatoes. I love me some Branzino, and they did a good job. I couldn't leave without getting some dessert, so I chose the Azerbaijani Baklava and the Pistachio Baklava with goat's milk vanilla creamy ice cream--this was definitely the way to finish off a lovely dinner. Did I say the service was great? Yes, the service was on point! Good staff, super friendly! The ambiance was moderately perfect for a Piedmont Ave spot. Bottom line--this spot is a Mediterranean restaurant offering a fusion of Turkish, Iranian, and Armenian cuisines. I heard the gyros are really good--next, I'll try those. Go visit and eat there; you will like it! I'm going back soon.
