Uber quaint spot for a quick bite at historic Mogollon, NM. Everything seems to be done by order, so it'll take a bit of time to get your food. For our order, we started with their Hatch Chili Burger. The patty and bun ratio was spot on and cooked to perfection! The hatch chili was moderate, and I'd expected more a punch to my palates. Needless to say, everyone's spice level is subjective. My buddy's fries look freshly cut and done more on the softer side not the crunchy fried texture if you wanted that. Service overall was good, but I would say the location and the ambiance definitely has me sold! Enjoy!

The Purple Onion is a small cafe in the even smaller old mining town of Mogollon. The cafe is only open seasonally on weekends from 9-5 (plus holidays), which is pretty much the whole town's schedule. Great BLT on a bun with purple slaw. Really nice lunch. Seating is almost exclusively outside - there are tables scattered about the grounds, including some inside an open shed affair, which is cool. Order at the counter, give your name, take a seat somewhere and they'll shout out your name when the food's up. Highly recommended, if you can get to it.

If you can brave winding narrow mountain roads with sheer cliff drops on one side you will be richly rewarded. The pie is good, the green chilli burgers are fantastic, the unique ultra-purple slaw is dee-lish, and the surrounding town is a mysterious delight. Picture a Western ghost town rehabbed abit and crowded in a tiny valley straddling a deep central trench.

Great Chile Cheeseburger! Fantastic pies. Love the place. Very scenic drive, turn east just north of Glenwood on Hwy 180.

Best Restaurant in the Gila! It sometimes gets overcrowded with visitors from Datil.

Usually don't expect much from the sides but all of it excellent. My friend had biscuits and gravy with added green chile. Said was the best she ever had. So happy to have this quality of food and service in such a setting. Can't wait to come back for Breakfast ! Thanks for the great evening !

Golden Girls Cafe???? Huh?! OK... Rick the owner, and the…read moreChef extraordinaire Amanda (his daughter) have truly set the bar high in the tiny Shangri-la that is known as Glenwood, New Mexico. Yes... you'll get a chuckle at a big picture of the Golden Girls Blanche on the wall, however having graced several Michelin Starred restaurants over the last few years (very well deserved), I've gotta just say... Wow! So, here we go. As many of you know by reading my reviews, you know that I call it straight and sometimes wayyyyy too honest. That being said... 2nd "Wow!' I was visiting my Dad for a few days and he says; why don't we head over to "Golden Girls" for breakfast. My head was still spinning, trying to figure out which time zone I was in and never doubting the wise judgement of my father Gunnar, (Maritime World Traveler) I said "sure Daddy, let's go!" What I figured was to be a simple omelet with croissant and coffee turned out to be a culinary wake up... literally... like better than any of the 32 countries I've eaten in over the last 5 years. No joke, simple, stupidly delicious and reminded me of home, like when I was a little boy and Mom was cooking, but so much better! I needed more!! So later on when Dad asked what I'd like for dinner, I questioned kinda naively... "Hey Dad, does that Golden Girls Cafe place do dinner???" Man, I wanted more of the good stuff! I had a "Broasted Chicken" dish that was so moist and perfect (way too much food) and my Dad kept it simple with a Pork Tenderloin that was mind blowingly flavorful. I had sides of Mac n' Cheese and Fried Apples and Dad had Mashed Potatoes and Corn. Dessert was ridiculously delicious.. a home made Strawberry Pie that Martha Stewart would be jealous of, fresh Whipped Cream and piping hot coffee. (yes, there were several other equally yummy options) So, the prices... uncommonly reasonable and the service was exceptional, literally like stepping back in time... Seriously friendly, genuine and made you wanna come back. I usually opt for Normas when I come to visit Glenwood, but I've gotta be honest, Golden Girls is my new Go-To hands down!! Try it out for yourself... I'm sure you'll feel the same way I do.... and btw, you're welcome lol!
