This was our second year in a row eating here, and it continues to be one of our favorite places in the White Mountains. The food is exceptionally fresh and delicious, and you can truly taste the quality in everything they serve. They use fantastic beef, fresh ingredients, and you can tell there is a lot of care put into every dish. A special shoutout to Emily, who has been amazing every time we've visited. She is incredibly attentive, welcoming, and genuinely great at what she does. She makes you feel right at home and adds so much to the overall experience. If you find yourself in Alpine, Arizona, I highly recommend stopping by Long Shadow Lodge. Whether you're coming for a meal or picking up some of their incredible meats, it is absolutely worth the visit. In my opinion, it's easily one of the better places to eat in the White Mountains. We'll definitely be back!

The drive to Mogollon is incredibly scenic. The twisty one-lane road lifts into the mountains…read morebefore settling into the main street sitting in a deep canyon. My internet connection gave out but, with such beauty around me, I didn't care. Mogollon is often described as a ghost town. That's not a fair description. First, I wouldn't describe Mogollon as even a town. It's very small. Second, there are a few inhabitants so the main street is quite a cozy thoroughfare. I can imagine sitting in a chair for hours in this canyon setting. There's a museum, an inn, an eclectic store selling a mix of t-shirts, art, geodes, etc., and there's The Purple Onion. All may be closed depending on the day and the season. Fortunately, The Purple Onion was open. It seems to be known for its lunch fare of burgers and such but I settled for a breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, hash browns, coffee, and a milkshake. The food was okay but the coffee and milkshake were both very good. If you're on the main highway and you see the sign pointing to Mogollon, take it. Even if the businesses are closed that day, the drive there and back is worth it. If The Purple Onion is open, get a milkshake. You won't be disappointed.

I ordered a cheeseburger and a salad. I asked for lettuce & tomato only for the burger and the plate came with onions & pickles, on top of my lettuce and tomato. I hate onions and do not like the taste on my other condiments. I thought it came with chips and when I asked, I got a bag of Lay's regular chips. I thought they would be something special. The hamburger was okay, the salad was okay, but I should of ordered something else. My fault. The place is small and relatively clean. The server does it all, the cash register, the ordering, the cleaning and food delivery. Here again, extra charge for credit cards. The price was okay. The burger was $9, the salad was $5.50 and I had water to drink. In a pinch, in a remote part of New Mexico, if I stop again, I will order something other than the ordinary small burger. It wasn't worth more than $9.
