I got B1. Purple kow milk tea, which was decent. It seemed a bit watered down, but the flavor was okay. I thought the half sweetness level was perfect. The regular size (what I got) is really big, and there's even a large size, which is absolutely massive. It did take kind of long for my drink to be made, even though there weren't a lot of people.
My fav boba place in berk! I've been coming here even before they moved to this location and it's still been consistently a go to place for me. I always get their toffee QQ milk tea, 25% sweet, less ice. The balance of texture with the boba and brown sugar jelly / crystal boba goes so well together, along with the milk tea not being too sweet. Their drinks tend to run on the sweeter side for me so keep that in mind when adjusting your sweetness level. My friends who prefer sweeter drinks usually get 75%. Their regular milk tea and passion fruit green tea is also good. Their grass jelly also has great flavor. ALSO you can choose oat milk over organic milk for no extra charge, which is a plus. Their snacks? Also top tier. Their garlic fries, sweet potato fries, and fried zucchini are my favs. They always come out hot and crispy, with the perfect texture. There's limited seating and some outlets around the tables. You can also order ahead on Snackpass.
I love purple kow. I've been going to the university location for years but they closed and opened a location in Channing. The drinks are consistently good. You can't go wrong with their milk teas, fruit teas, specialty milk drinks. I will say I miss their stamp card system. They had the best reward. Nonetheless, my fave boba. They are very generous with the amount of boba they include in a drink.
I'm so glad that Purple Kow is still around! The last time I came was about 7 years ago and when I came this time around, it looked completely different! I asked the cashier if they had changed locations and she confirmed my suspicions, they moved from Shattuck to this new location about a year ago! The location is very bright and there were a couple tables and chairs to hang out and chill with friends. Boba wise, I ordered D4, the iced milk drink with boba and grass jelly. It tasted as delicious as I remembered it! I asked for 0 sugar and it's still sweet. I wonder what kind of milk they use! The grass jelly is perfect and the boba is soft. The cup size is still pretty funny. If only parking was easier, I would come more often. But the boba is absolutely delicious!
Purple Kow is one of my go to places when the other boba spots close at 9pm or when I'm craving their specific drinks. You get a HUGE cup with boba for way cheaper than a lot of places around. Last night I stopped in for my favorites- their V-DAY STRAWBERRY MILK and TOBANGO WINGS W/ FRIES COMBO!!!! So good every time. The staff who work here are so sweet. I love hopping around all the boba spots in berkeley because they each have good things about them. Purple Kow is for sure in my rotation.
I realized my review is 5 years old! I still love Purple Kow so much, and I'll always go out of my way to go there, if I can. I think they moved since my last review and are a bit harder to find - there isn't a great sign out front - it is also hard to park on the street, so best to order and pick it up. Even with all this it is still completely worth it! Same great quality tea, and they're always nice - They even called us once when we ordered online to make sure we had the right location. The new location is more fancy than the old but I haven't spent much time in the store/seating. Recommend more than every boba place, ever - however you have to keep in mind I only ever get the one pineapple green tea drink --
If you haven't been to this location before, be warned that there isn't a ton of street parking directly next to the store, but there is a parking garage within walking distance that has 1 hour free parking! The interior isn't huge, but you can definitely go in to sit down with a couple of friends! We only came for the drinks (D3 & B2). The service was quick as well. I generally try to go by the rule that if you've never had a drink before at a new place, you should always get 100% to try the drink how it was intended to be made. That being said, we got the B2 with green milk tea & 80% sweetness but didn't really feel like the flavor was super strong... I definitely feel like I should have gotten a 100%! There was A TON of boba in there, which was half appreciated but also it was so difficult to try the drink on its own! We also got the D3 with 100%( Milk with Caramel, Boba + Pudding). The caramel definitely makes this feel like it's 200% sweetness, so you could totally tone down the sweetness for this drink. Other than that, the boba was nice and chewy, a little smaller than usual though!
Off Channing street, New location to me as only make a trip to berkley once in a blue moon. Today daughter was craving purple kow, we Used to frequent SF & SJ when we in town. The signature drinks are the D series & the pudding was really tasty in the milk teas. Pop corn chicken is always a hit as they are really chunky chicken pieces. Say that 5x. Parked in a parking lot $4 an hour with first hour free otherwise limited street parking.
Salt and Pepper Chicken: 5 stars for this because the chicken nuggets are big and juicy and you get a lot of them. Definitely enough to share with friends as a snack. They should be called Spicy nuggets though as they definitely taste more like they have Spivey flavoring vs "salt and pepper." I would get the chicken again, it was tasty and a good value. My roasted oolong milk tea with aloe was alright... I'll probably try something else next time as I think it just wasn't my preference. My friend's drink was really good. Don't remember what it was. The cup is annoying to hold. Service: The person working told us there was no WiFi but we saw there was a WiFi and were able to sign on no problem... Ambiance: loud as heck!! Spend a little over an hour doing some computer work in here and it sounded like a college cafeteria with the kids constantly coming in and out and talking loudly. Definitely a place to hangout and not necessarily to work but there is WiFi and one bathroom decently clean.
This Purple Kow location is closer to where most of the other boba spots are in Berkeley and in the area where most of the students hang out in. Parking is a bit hit or miss here, as everyone is always doubled parked, but they are located on a quieter street, so there is usually some parking right in the front of the shop. Not much service - I ordered ahead on the app and sat inside waiting for my drink and even though they finished making it, the time for the drink being done was not updated and my drink was just sitting on the back counter. I ordered the Purple Kow Green Milk Tea with boba and grass jelly. The milk tea tasted a bit off like the milk tasted a bit funny like it did not go well with the drink and it also tasted a bit lukewarm, even though I ordered it cold (there was no % option for ice, only either cold or hot). I feel like I only go here because I like how big the cups are, but the milk tea is just eh.
I was surprised to hear Purple Kow had moved to Telegraph! It's one of my favorite boba places to go to in Berkeley because their drink size is huge compared to other shops so you get more bang for your buck. We had the peach green tea and mango green tea, both were yummy and full of flavor. This location is a lot smaller than their old one understandably, so keep in mind there's only around six tables inside. The only thing was service was very slow, we waited around 15-20 minutes for our drink to be finished on a Saturday afternoon. Otherwise, I recommend Purple Kow if you're looking to get boba in Berkeley (which seems to be everywhere).
Purple Kow is one of my favorite boba shops in Berkeley. Their milk tea is consistent and are served in large cups! Some may say this is inconvenient to hold, but I personally don't mind it. My go-to order is their Twins QQ Jelly Drink, which has milk tea, grass jelly, and pudding. I usually like to taste the flavor of the tea, so 50% sweetness always works for me. Overall, solid spot for boba. They recently changed their location to be closer to Telegraph, which makes it more convenient for UC Berkeley students to stop by. The new location is very spacious and is definitely an upgrade from their old location. The service is quick as usual!
Always walked past this shop on my way to Downtown but for whatever reason, could never be there when they were opened. Well, I am happy to say I finally got around to grabbing a drink from here :) Ordered the Peach Oolong w/ Fresh Mango because I wanted something refreshing to complement the clear blue sky day! Was fairly quick in terms of service and while I wasn't craving any food, the location would be perfect for anyone who wants to grab a quick bite from Purple Kow or any of the other restaurants along the street (including Halal Guys!) Overall, the tea quality was quite good, although I'm not sure if I really tasted much peach flavor. The jelly was a nice texture change and went well with the drink. While the mango bits were a little on the sour side, I won't hold that against them because it is not mango season. Solid drink overall along with an almost comical large cup. Will definitely stop by again to try their iced milk drink along with some of their snacks :) read more
The drink cups are far too big to walk with. It's uncomfortable to hold if you're trying to walk around campus with it because the cup is too wide and short, so your hand can't really fit around it. I ordered a pineapple tea and it was nice there were chunks of fruit, but I was disappointed that even though I ordered 25% sugar, the micro-sugar (but it was marked wrong on the cup itself), it was still really sweet. The shop is a nice space though with upstairs seating and big tables. I just think their sugar levels are a bit off along with the cup sizes. read more

Ordered a Lychee Green Tea, 75% sweet with light ice. Huge amount of tea! I like the funky little cup that the drinks come in. There was a huge line and my order came up super fast. The menu is huge and there's also food options. I can see myself coming here to get some work done, good drinks and nice vibe! read more
Oh my the sizes is what stood out to my from this location. A small felt more like a medium cup. We did go for their mango slushy but they were out. I got the purple kow milk with 50% sugar added. It wasn't too sweet as I thought it would be. The boba did have a fresh taste. I don't remember the other drinks name may have been matcha flavored. I will definitely be back when in the area. read more

Make way for the chubby cup! Finally, I got to visit Purple Kow after so many attempts. I wasn't sure which # to order because I wanted so many toppings in a classic iced milk. Ended up getting D2, which is iced milk with pearls and pudding, plus added grass jelly. The pudding added extra sugar so next time I can get 50% sweet instead of 80%. They use extra creamy organic milk, Dad slurped up his D4 (iced milk w/ boba & grass jelly) faster than all of us! Mom got an oolong milk tea, and sis a honey black milk tea. Cool how you can get 0% sugar if you're trying to avoid sweets. #1 means black tea, #2 green, #3 roasted oolong options for drinks Super creamy milk! I didn't have any caffeine at all. Love all the topping options! Maybe one day I'll get TCHO chocolate pudding in a hazelnut milk tea. No way, they have green tea jelly?! Drink combos are endless! I'm just happy I finally got the OG chubby cup. *Customer service was chill, friendly, and patient. I'll definitely drop by again after Halal Guys if I'm in Berkeley! They've got food too! Noodles, dumplings, the usual fried snacks, etc. Seating available both downstairs and upstairs, lofty feel with modern dandelion-looking lamps. read more
Good. Just like the other bubble tea places but the tea flavor is more distinct. Asked for normal ice but the tea was not so the ice melted. Small place. Fast service. Only 3 tables to sit at. So it's nice that the service is fast. The glasses are like mini buckets. read more

Purple Kow is a cool place with very cool cups. The packaging of their drinks makes them stand out amongst competitor boba shops. The customer service is kind, helpful, and patient. Regarding the quality of boba, it is good- not the absolute best, but it still eases boba cravings. I recommend trying Purple Kow- I feel like I always look so cool when I carry around their unique cup walking around downtown Berkeley! read more

Tried roasted oolong milk tea with egg pudding while I was in the area. Drink taste: Not good, I felt there was no tea, only milk and sugar Service: Slow Price: Okay around $5.75 Cleanliness: Okay Another downside was no parking available near the store, had to drive around few times. I won't recommend if you like stronger tea taste. read more

So glad I got to finally try Purple Kow. Time and time again I've heard so many great things about them. I ordered the Iced Milk drink with grass jelly and tapioca and jeeeez this drink was the bomb.com. My friend ordered their original boba milk tea and at first she ordered 20% sweetness but tried it and said it was too watered down. She then asked them if they can add a little more sweetness and they gladly said yes! I can definitely say I appreciated the service and everything about this boba shop. *Make sure you order before using the tables upstairs! It's a rule of theirs!* read more

Review #267 - 2019 Before heading out to Six Flags, I wanted to take the kids to grab some drinks at Feng Cha during their Grand Opening event, but their line was ridiculously long & so was Yifang's so we ended up at Purple Kow. We showed up at around 12:15 PM & the place was empty so we were able to place our orders right away. I got an order of the garlic fries for the kids to share which was probably the best out of the 3 snacks I got. The popcorn chicken was pretty good as well, but the kids ate the whole thing before I got a picture of it. The spicy noodles were super disappointing. It tasted like plain instant ramen with some chili oil. There was zero flavor! My niece and nephew both got an order of the Toffee QQ & they both said it was just ok. Definitely not as good as other places we've been to. My son got the peach oolong with fresh mango & he said his was just ok as well. My 10-year old niece got the matcha crema and she rarely comments on her drinks or food because she's afraid of getting in trouble for choosing the wrong things so I rarely get any feedback from her. I got my daughter the mango green tea with brown sugar jelly & it tasted ok. I ended up with the iced milk with grass jelly & boba, but I asked to substitute red beans for the boba which was the worse decision I could've made. I noticed there was a sour taste to the red beans, but didn't think much of it until later on when my stomach started hurting like I was about to die. I then realized that the red beans must have gone bad that's why I was in so much pain. I guess not many people order the red beans so it probably sits for days at a time so they didn't bother to make a new batch. I was so upset at myself for ordering the red beans! The only reason why I am giving it 2 stars is because service was quick & friendly. My daughter ended up leaving her backpack here & I called it to ask the person to hold on to it until we came back & we picked it up at around 6 PM that same day. Sadly, we won't be returning... read more
Go-to place when I crave fried chicken. Not as greasy as Sweetheart Cafe's popcorn chicken, not as filling as Bonchon. On the way, even more convenient when I use Snack Pass to order ahead. The mustard dip enhances the flavor as well read more
Been here at least a dozen times now and it's a solid boba joint! It has a special place in my heart because this was the first time I'd been introduced to the "chubby" or what I call "bucket" size, which is their smaller size. I remember being fresh from Canada and being so amused by this cup shape. They have tons of tea options with different toppings (toppings are extra as per usual). I usually opt for their hazelnut milk tea or one of their fruit green teas. For food I've only had their chicken nuggets, which are always salty and delicious. Service is always quick and there is some seating on the first floor with more on the second floor. Lots of students studying up there. read more
Really good boba! This was one of my co-worker's favorite boba place so we stopped by during our break. There wasn't a line around 3pm. I got the original boba milk tea. I got it with 50% sugar. It was really good! The boba was soft and had the perfect amount of chewiness. The sugar level was just the right amount. I could taste the black tea. It comes in a 25 oz container! It is huge! I actually didn't finish it and finished it the next day. I was surprised that the boba was still good the next day! I also ordered the salt and pepper popcorn chicken. I asked for extra spicy and the cashier just told me I could just add more seasoning when I get my order. It was crispy, not oily, and a perfect snack with my boba. I thought the portions were good for the price. You can ask for ranch on the side. I will definitely be back to try the other boba flavors! read more

One of the early pioneers of boba in Berkeley, Purple Kow finally opened around the area after years of having to drive to SF to get that Purple Kow fix. Purple Kow has a beautiful location on the other side of campus near Shattuck Avenue with plenty of food places and near campus for students to grab boba. I've always been a sweet tooth type of guy, so Purple Kow has come thru with the boba. The menu is super easy and organized, as well as seating upstairs if you wanna study or get some work done with wall outlets. Bathroom located on the side of the bottom floor if you gotta run to do your business. Top Dog connected next door if you wanna grab a wiener before class. My fav drinks are definitely their milk teas in the range of B to C! This time around I ordered a Honey Milk Tea and I've been cutting back on sugar so I got 50% sweetness. Rich and creamy, their milk teas are perfect for a hot day in Berkeley. Do yourself a favor and come try it out! read more

second time coming here and service is quite fast. you can sit here and enjoy your drinks cause they have space upstairs too. beside drinks, they also sell some snacks. drinks are ok and they put in special cups which is quite big and prices are reasonable. you need to try the drinks here but i will always say: make sure to adjust the sweetness unless you like very sweet. i will always recommend only for 25 - 50% sweetness and make sure add the toppings... read more

I was curious as to why the Purple Kow locations only has 3.5 stars, but after coming here I understand why. It's an okay boba place, despite being a boba brand name in NorthCal. This location has a second floor for seating, although I didn't venture upstairs to take a look. I got the Purple Kow Milk Green Tea ($4.69), their classic drink. I liked that they let you customize the sweetness and pick what kind of milk you want. The cup size is also large, so the regular size is enough to drink. However, the tea quality was mediocre, therefore the drink was average. It wasn't something that I would get again and with the variety of boba shops to try, I probably won't be back. The average rating for Purple Kow is spot on, it's a 3.5 star boba establishment. read more
Located in downtown Berkeley The building is shared with another food place, I walked inside looking for a milk tea flavor to suffice my boba craving. Looked at the menu on the wall and there were plenty to choose from and sometimes these tea places will have different drink names of the same kind so I just asked the gal behind the counter if she had the type of drink I was looking for... she suggested D7 or D8 so, okay, I chose D7 which was a chocolate pudding boba iced milk drink. I also ordered salt and Pepper Chicken Nuggets. So I placed my order but I couldn't see my drink or food being prepared. There's this massive wall that covered everything and all one could see is the cash register. Usually, the other tea places would have an open kitchen and they prepare the drinks visible to the customers. After a few minutes my number was called and, whoa, the cup was short and wide, my first time to see one. I was hungry coming in but I couldn't finish both the chicken nuggets and my iced milk. The serving was huge (good for 2 or even 3 people, in my opinion) so I just brought it back with me to go. I enjoyed my modest dinner. If a customer wants to eat in there are a couple of table seating on the ground floor, where you order your food, otherwise there is a dining area upstairs. It isn't that big but more seating. Friendly and helpful service. 3.5 Stars. Review #0622 read more
