Delicious pastries! Six of us came here on a Saturday morning and pastries galore awaited us! It was hard to narrow it down but we ended up with a mix of savory and sweet to share. We loved everything! So full of flavor, good portions and reasonably priced. I got my London Fog as well which was served in a tea pot. Perfect to wash down the pastries. A few little tables and counter seating available but for parties bigger than 4, it might be challenging to sit.
Purebread is always tempting to walk into, especially with the pastry case looking so generous and comforting. We tried a mix of baked goods along with coffee, and overall it was a solid experience. The pastries were rich and clearly well made, especially the chocolate based items which had deep flavor and weren't overly sweet. The almond pastry was buttery and satisfying, though a bit dense for my taste. Coffee was smooth and balanced, a nice pairing with the desserts, but not particularly standout. The atmosphere feels cozy and relaxed, perfect for a casual coffee break or a quick treat downtown. While some items really shine, others felt a little heavy, which is why this sits comfortably at a good rather than great for me. Still a reliable stop when you're craving something baked and comforting.
Love coming to this purebread location! Always smells delicious when I walk in like fresh baked breads and some sweet treats! Everything is always made fresh. I had to get this vanilla confetti cookie because it is pink which is perfectly festive for Valentine's Day! Really delicious and still warm. Crispy edges and soft and chewy middles. The regular hot chocolate was good as well, and then tried the hot chocolate festival special, which is a coconut milk hot chocolate with coconut whip cream and toasted coconut shavings! If you love coconut and hot chocolate this is the one for you! The server was quick to ring up our order and was very kind, and even offered to warm up the cookie for me :)
We visited Purebread for brunch and all seating was taken inside so we ordered to go. Decor was inviting and we could see why people would linger here over their drinks and food. Staff were helpful and efficient. There was a nice selection and variety available that morning and it took us a little bit longer to make a choice. Bread, cookies, cakes, pastries, and more plus coffees. Apple tart was sweet with a flaky pastry and delicious. It was our favorite. The chocolate with cookie and cream icing was much too dense as well as topped with too much frosting for us. Surprisingly the frosting was quite hard so we ended up not eating it. The spinach and feta was savory but not as good as our go to spot in SoCal. The iced mocha coffee was just ok. There was a bunch of mocha bits at the bottom of the cup so our coffee was gritty. Not sure why wouldn't dissolve even after lots of stirring. We were a little bummed with the results given what we heard about this place. Looked better than tasted.
i was curious to try a coconut cake after watching hacks. a colleague had raved about the cakes at purebread, so i decided to see for myself and headed there on a thursday afternoon around 2:00 pm. the display of baked goods was truly a feast for the eyes, with an array of pastries, cakes, and breads artfully arranged. thankfully, it wasn't too crowded--just two ladies in front of me, who were also having a tough time deciding what to get. i could understand their dilemma, as everything looked so tempting. the staff were incredibly patient and helpful, adding to the pleasant experience. the cakes at purebread looked more like dense, generously iced loaves rather than the traditional, light, airy cakes i usually get. after some deliberation and a friendly chat with the staff, i settled on two options: the coconut buttercream and the carrot cake with vanilla bean buttercream. the takeout box felt surprisingly heavy, a testament to the density of these delicious treats. of the two cakes, the coconut was my clear favourite. the aroma was wonderful--sweet and inviting, almost like a tropical breeze. the cake itself was moist and flavourful, perfectly complemented by the rich, decadent buttercream icing. the carrot cake, while also delicious, didn't quite measure up to the coconut for me. however, the vanilla bean buttercream added a lovely touch of sweetness and aroma. overall, the experience at purebread was delightful. the combination of a welcoming atmosphere, helpful staff, and scrumptious cakes made it a memorable visit. the coconut cake, in particular, lived up to the hype and then some, making the trip entirely worthwhile.
Subpar pastries that look way better than they taste. carrot cake loaf and lavender lemon loaf was dry and very dense. Sticky bun was too soggy with butter and cold. Blueberry lemon scone was actually delicious. There were flies (as I read from previous reviews too) on the pastries and they don't warm them up for you. Pros is that the service is great and the location is nice. Also they do an amazing job making the array of desserts look glorious and beautiful on display.
Purebread had it all. Great customer service, so many amazing and delicious choices, coffees and teas of any kind, alternative milk options. It was so good. If you have the chance to go, you should. The pastries were light and flaky. The savory options had great flavor and the sweets were perfection. Enjoyed everything I tried. Would definitely go back, again and again.
We've tried some really good bakeries while visiting Vancouver, and Purebred was another good one. So many pastry items to choose from that it made decoding difficult. When we asked for recommendations, we were told that their scones and biscuits were popular items that tend to sell out. Scones and biscuits are not a hard sell for me, so that's what we ordered - a cheddar pepper biscuit warmed up and a lemon blueberry scone (so many scone flavors to choose from). Both the Americano and Cappuccino were perfect complements to the pastries - rich and bold. Both the biscuit and scone were great as well - crunchy outside and soft insides. Full of flavor and moist. Comfortable spot for us to enjoy our breakfasts before resuming our exploration of the city.
Great cafe with tons of pastries to choose from. My friend and I had some coffee with snacks. She had drip coffee with cheddar (or jalapeno?) scone it was great. Cheddar scone had some Indian spices with flaky texture. Even though I'm not a fan of scone, this one was addictive. I ordered latte with coconut passionfruit loaf on the side. Latte was pretty good, but the loaf was very dry. Not the desirable texture I like, but there was a subtle scent of passionfruit. It tasted coconut-y and not too sweet at all. The overall experience was okay. Staff seemed happy and cheerful.
The display window with all their breads and baked goods is gorgeous. With so many options it was difficult to decide what to get. The staff seemed to get that bc they were patient as we walked back and forth ogling...wishing we could try one of everything. The latte was perfectly made with a creamy froth and it paired beautifully with a very tasty pumpkin scone. If I lived in Vancouver I would def be a regular at this awesome bakery.

Phenomenal bakery! I honestly love bakeries/cafes that offer a lot of options! Coming here was like going to the bakery section at Safeway lol! It was a sweet foodie heaven! We ordered the chocolate almond croissant and rhubarb crumble pie. Both were enormous and we couldn't finish it in one setting. I never had rhubarb crumble pie before but it was a total game changer. It wasn't overly sweet and the rhubarb added a nice sour taste, complimenting the sweetness of the crumble. The chocolate almond croissant was not like any chocolate almond croissants I had before. The almond paste was more creamier compared to normal almond croissants and the surprising part is that the chocolate was infused in the almond paste. Usually chocolate croissants are like pain an chocolates where you just have two bars of chocolate. But this one was whipped into the paste creating a creamy chocolate almond paste. Very delicious! This bakery is a def must try if you're visiting Vancouver! read more
Incroyable! Fantastique! Okay, I know there aren't too many French speakers in BC, but I was excited to be in Canada so throw me a bone, okay? Purebread is so. damn. good. that it transcends languages anyways! The display case is gawk-worthy; a veritable cornucopia of baked goods sweet and savory, from the butteriest egg and prosciutto biscuits, to wondrously moist cakes, all the way down to meringues as big as your face. My only disappointment is that we didn't have time to come here on each day of our trip to Vancouver. Bonus points from this Portlander for serving Stumptown coffee :) read more
Oh my god. I'm so overwhelmed coming into this place. There's so much selections, I didn't know what to get. Even though there's a wait line, the line goes by pretty quick. The place is a little bit small, but luckily we were able to find a table down the small hallway toward the restroom. If you're looking for carbs, this is the place. For a bakery place, it's pretty legit. All the bake goods looked delicious and the portion is actually quite large and filling. I got the spinach, potato, and cheese slab pie. Never had that before, but it actually taste like a quiche, but with no egg. The crust was pretty flaky and the flavor was like a quiche. I'd enjoyed it. The pastries and bread seem very European. I also enjoyed the hot chocolate. There's a reason why there's a line here. read more

It's a feast of the eyes upon entering Purebread. The presentation and selection are simply amazing! The lady behind the counter was patient answering my questions. I ended up with the chocolate almond croissant. This pastry is a contrast of textures - certainly not your standard run of the mill flavored croissant. The silky chocolate flavored almond filling is thick and abundant. It is contrasted by the bready inner and the flaky outside. To finish it off - crunchy almond slices and chocolate drizzle. This is a dessert class pastry, not a breakfast pastry (and I am not saying that as a bad thing!). There was no line or just a short line on a Friday morning at 8:30-9 am. There was plenty of seating and the staff was friendly and efficient. read more

Purebread is pure awesome! Albeit expensive, their portions are fairly large and can easily be shared. My favourite dessert pastry would be the amazing chocolate almond croissant while my favourite savoury pastry would be the chive, sour cream and cheese scone. Both are quite large and dense, so I honestly have to say that I prefer not to eat the entire pastry even though I have a huge appetite. The selection at purebread is amazing and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I have been here during different times of the day and I find that they're always well stocked. There's almost always at least three of each pastry/cookie/cake so you don't have to worry about your favourite item running out! read more
To say my baked good was the best I've had all year is impressive given it is December 31st... This place, put simply, is the best bakery in Vancouver and I do not give out 5 stars lightly. The baked goods and bread are piled high if you show up early like some sort of fantasy scene in a cartoon trying to show a decadent spread of mouth watering eats (check out my photos) Great bread, great snacks, awesome staff. And the room... Even the most staunch anti-gentrification activist will have admit this place looks great and will be pleased these guys moved indoors from the farmer market arena. read more

Wrong name. It's not Purebread. It's Pureevil. Butter, refined white four, and sugar. It's a freaking nightmare in here. I came in here looking for something reasonably healthy, an oxymoron I know, but believe it or not, there is something. A buckwheat scone. Well, that all went to total hellz when I walked in. The goods are up front and they tempt you with it, like walking into a peeler bar and the, ummm performers, shake their assets in your face but you can't touch. Here you can. In fact, you can purchase. Puregenuis. So go ahead and oggle, Leave a pool of drool as you survey the multitude of firm, pert, round, sumptuous, delectable, mouthwatering, goods that you want to wrap your lips around, before you suffocate yourself into heavenly bliss.. By the way, they're real too! Come here too often, and that single digit bodyfat % # that you've been sporting, will tank. Tank in the wrong direction. Forget that summer beachbody that you've been working on. You've already failed the moment you walked through the front door. I purposely made the mistake of purposely getting the chocolate almond croissant. Purposely, I ate it, purposely knowing that I'll need to eat clean for the next month to make up for that one purposeful slip up. I conveniently and purposely forgot about that buckwheat scone. Puregenious on my part. Apart from my mischievous proselytizing, the croissant was pretty decent. Lots of toasted almonds, buttery and flaky pastry, with an almond(?) chocolate paste centre finished with chocolate trails and a dusting of confectioner's sugar on the outside. It was a bit on the sweet side for my personal palate. In reality, humans are not a rational species. And I rationalize that you will have no will power. You may as well come and post rationalize why you ate that thing that you shouldn't have. I will come back for the round scone to wrap my lips around. Purposely. As soon as I walked into Purebread I realized that I may have just died and gone to bread/pastry heaven. This place makes smaller bakeries look extremely tiny in that their selection is huge; and I really mean it. Their display case is just flowing with different kinds of pastries, muffins, baked goods, cakes, breads, cookies - you name it. Even if you're not much of a sweet tooth, I guarantee that you will find at least something that will catch your eye. There are a good number of savory options. Coming with a group of friends was perfect because that meant sharing (which I don't normally do...) and trying a variety of different things. We tried one of the savory muffins which looked like spinach/chives. Having a savory treat was a good balance to all the sweet stuff that I was trying. I personally chose the earl grey lavender scone which was delightful. It had a very floral taste from the lavender, but you could really taste the earl grey. You can see the earl grey tea leaves throughout the pastry which I adore! Another friend tried the salted caramel cookie which was just oozing with caramel. If you're a caramel lover, this may be the perfect treat for you. A lot of the breakfast like savory scones/breads were also really good. If you're a fan of bacon and eggs, etc. they have quite a few options to choose from as well. I thought the frittata was quite delicious as well! I was extremely tempted to bring these pastries home... They have lovely looking loaves of bread and all their sweet treats made me want to bags home to friends and family. Service was fast and efficient. They have a lot of people working behind the display case and they are quick on their feet to get you your baked goods onto a plate or box if you're taking it home. Really wish there was a bakery with this many options where home is! read more
5 stars for customer service 3 stars for the few bakery items I tried Something I was pleasantly surprised with here was their customer service! We happened to drop by a couple minutes after closing time and they still let us in with a smile and still gave us really good service. Of course I didn't want to overstay our welcome and keep them there too much beyond their regular hours but they were great and even didn't make a fuss when we sat down to taste a few items before we left while they were cleaning up / closing down. I appreciated that! As for the food... I am a huge Bakery fan, but everthing I tried here was a bit too sweet. I can't believe I actually just said that :o !! My friend got a peanut butter go-go bar which was ok- tasted relatively healthy but wasn't really my thing taste and texture wise. We also tried the Almond chocolate croissant, which I was surprised tasted so fresh and crispy still, considering it was bought and consumed at the end of the day. However, the chocolate filling was a bit grainy and didn't quite taste like chocolate. Not sure what was in that filling, but it wasn't to my liking. Upon the recommendation of a customer in front of me, I also decided to throw in a crack bar to my order. It was good with a first small taste, but was way too sweet for me. I can see how people would love this place though. At closing, there was still an ample selection of things to choose from, and from what I hear, during regular hours the counters are busting full of items to try. Would definitely be curious to see what they have at earlier times of the day and maybe try something more savory. read more
Has a place ever made you want to crawl behind the counter and live in the kitchen?! There's not even a small part of me that's embarrassed to say that this place did that to me. *Also- let me geek out for a second to say how big their kitchen looked, and how CLEAN! I wanted to jump back there, tie an apron on, and just start baking my little heart out. Too bad it's so far away, or I might actually apply for a job there. My husband and I walked in here for a little bite before hoping on bikes for a fun day of exploring Vancouver. Well, our plans for a 'little bite' got foiled the second we walked through the door. This place is literally bakery heaven. Any baked good you can dream up, is stacked beautifully on the counters of Purebread, plated on stands and tiers, with signage depicting their gorgeous ingredients. Breads, bars, scones, cookies, croissants, frittatas, tarts, tortes, muffins... it's all here and more delicious than you could have hoped. We ordered 2 coffees and somehow managed to narrow it down to 3 items to share. It's vacation after all, and we had just spent the previous week hiking the Canadian Rockies so... #dontjudge! We split a spinach + feta turnover, a chocolate almond croissant, and a tomato and spinach frittata. Each one was stellar, but I'm literally drooling over the memory of this chocolate almond croissant. The croissant was cut in half and filled with (I believe) a combination of melted chocolate and almond paste, and drizzled with chocolate and powdered sugar. One of the BEST chocolate croissants - and I consider myself a connoisseur of chocolate croissants. Go here, and maybe ship me some croissants while you're at it. read more

Purebread is pastry debauchery. As you walk in, you will be engulfed by the visual overload of at least 30 wonderful things you'd want to shove in your mouth stat! The place is always busy, the variety of pastries is wide and it is just so easy to get sucked in to returning to try the rest of the menu. Their hazelnut crunch torte ($6) is out of this world outstanding: moist chocolate cake with the right amount of sweetness with crispy kind of Heath bar-like topping. I ate half a slice in there with ginger tea (I salivate as I write this) and took half home including a square rice crispy with gooey marshmallow and white and milk chocolate chips ($3). Oh boy I want to go back there already.... I also went to the Yaletown and Kits farmers markets and found a Purebread stall with long lines. If u want savory and not too sweet: their corn with jalapeño cornbread ($4) is great and if u want a lemony taste, I suggest their lemon loaf ($4). read more

Crack Bar and Blueberry Crunch Brioche _ I don't know how I did it but I've walked past this place physically and mentally many times and I've resisted the temptation _ For anyone who's had the Crack Pie at Momofuku, the Crack Bar is the closest you'll get around here. I actually like the Crack Bar more because it's thicker and each bite feels a bit more indulgent than it already is I honestly can't remember if that was correct for the Blueberry pastry but it was not what I expected at all. If the Yelp reviews don't lure you in, then the wondrous, mesmerizing smell of baked treats will. Thank you Purebread for an awesome post-lunch treat to satisfy my sweet tooth! Popped into Purebread for some good-good and a latte to wash it down. Did not expect my hardest decision of my day to be which pastry to select from their extravagant display. Settled with the Crack Bar and Creme Brûlée Bun. Ooooh boy. Crack Bar - reminiscent of Momofuku's Crack Pie - really is as close to non-drug crack as they come. Sweet and gooey, yet put together just right. Heavy-handedly dusted with icing powder. Creme Brûlée Bun - specifically asked the staff helping us for something delightfully filled. Filled with a vanilla custard with the signature glassy glaze. So, so great. Both treats paired well with a brilliantly foamed latte with bolder espresso. Beautiful cafe with a great air of welcome. Recommend to anyone in the area. read more

1 main reason I love Purebread: 1. All the delicious baked goods you can think of. The minute you walk into this bakery, you're engulfed with sweet smells of dough and sugar. The hardest part about coming in here? Trying to figure out what to get. This is my fave spot to grab sweet treats (even savoury treats) in town. Why? The quality. Yeah you can get banana bread, muffins and brownies at any bakery, but what makes Purebread different is how delicious and moist (I rarely use this word) everything is. Things to try: + Chocolate fudge loaf + Banana chocolate chip loaf + Raspberry lemon loaf + Lavender Earl Grey Scone + Apricot Vanilla Bean Scone + Bacon & Egg Brioche TL;DR - Amazing bakery that serves some of the most delicious, fresh and moist baked goods. Let me tell you how crazy amazing this place is. I don't event need to do it - once you see it you won't pass it by. The selection of pastries is tremendous and they change it every day! I heard about Purebread from my good friend and she said they are the best bakery shop in Vancouver! Really? I definitely need to give it a try. After we had brunch at Gastown, we went there to check it out. They were busy and line up for ordering. Wow... Heavenly bakery with an excellent variety of sweet and savory pastries! I personally like the hazelnut and figs bread, it's so good. There are other treats for vegan and gluten free as well. Yes, I have to agree with my friend that Purebread is the best bakery shop in Vancouver! read more

How did I never ever visit this place before??! Purebread is purely divine! They have a HUGE selection of baked goods and desserts. If you have a sweet tooth and love freshly baked goods, this is a must visit place. But beware! It's not easy to shortlist just one item. We ended up ordering the the raspberry cheesecake brownie, Butterscotch pecan cake with flat white and cappuccino. To be honest, just one order of dessert would have been sufficient since their portions are huge! But it was so tough to just order one item. Even though the lineups get long, their service was great and friendly. Purebread definitely goes on my dessert craving list. read more
On our walk through Gastown making our way to Chinatown one morning, we stumbled across Purebread. When I first walked in, I was overwhelmed by the amount of baked goods on display. Moreover, the aroma of freshly baked breads and pasteries. This cafe has high ceilings with several tables and counter top seating. At about 9am on a Saturday, this place was packed. We initially had thoughts of just getting our coffees and pasteries to go, but a table opened up so we sat for a few minutes. We got a Raspberry Loaf and an Apple Tart. And by the way, the "Apple Tart" has a different name but I didn't get to read the whole thing and I wasn't able to take a picture of the sign in front of it either. So for now, it'll be referred to as the Apple Tart. The Raspberry Loaf I got was very similar to the Iced Lemon Pound Cake at that Coffeebucks place. Only this one had real raspberries in it. It was good but the frosting was much too sweet. I took it all off and didn't eat it. The Apple Tart was good though. Not very sweet with a light and buttery outside. I don't know what kind of coffee they served but it was really smooth. It really hit the spot. If I'm ever in the area again, I would go back. read more

Update: went back, tried the Krack bar, also good stuff. Better than the NYC alternative in terms of texture and sweetness level. Maybe a few too many oats considering I went into this with a 'give me all the sugar you have' type attitude. Still not on the level of the peach thing. read more
Who goes to Purebread and gets something healthy? Me! I went in this morning looking for biscotti, but I ended up getting this fruit and nut bar. I think it was called PureBar or something? It was full of dates, almonds and other good stuff, and it was pretty awesome. Great customer service too! read more

I only tried the Almond Chocolate Croissant ($4.75) cuz apparently that's the popular one. And I got the last one they had!!! Price/quality ratio was good. Cuz the croissant was delicious and satisfying! read more
During my trip to Vancouver, Purebread was one of the bakeries that I knew I had to visit as I had read several reviews and everyone was raving about how great it was. I have to say that after going to Purebread and trying some of their pastries, it definitely did not disappoint! Upon walking into the bakery, I immediately liked the atmosphere - it was a cute, homey space with a hipster vibe to it. The variety and smell of the pastries draws you in right away and it was so hard to pick just a few for my afternoon walk around downtown Vancouver. I ended up picking the Earl Grey scone and the apple tart - both of which I didn't regret getting! My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to go back before my trip was over! The Earl Grey scone had a strong Earl Grey flavour to it, which I appreciated as some bakeries make their scones with a very subtle hint of flavour. The flavour may not be for everyone though but tea lovers will love it. It was also soft and crumbly as I bit into it with each bite melting in my mouth. It was delicious and the perfect afternoon treat! I also really enjoyed the apple tart - it actually left me speechless for a few seconds when I took my first bite as I was savouring the fresh, homemade goodness of it. It didn't have that sugary apple pie taste to it that some pies can have - the shell and fresh apples in this tart just blended together so well and it just reminds you of home cooked baking but more stylish and in a cute setting. Just amazing... I went here for breakfast, and it was just amazing, nothing more to say. Loved how they had a wide variety of both savory and sweet bread, pastries, and also great coffee. I got to try their bacon and cheese scone, vanilla and apricot scone, and some type of chocolate pound cake, along with iced americano. Everything I ordered was just perfect, even the coffee! I highly recommend that you go here and get some amazing bread, especially if you are in the area. I would go again if I ever go back to Vancouver :) MUST-TRY BAKERY! read more

I got a chocolate croissant, a butter croissant and spinach feta muffin and cheddar cornbread. All were delicious, I would have given five stars if they had offered to warm anything up. Upon walking in to this magical place, your nostrils will be assaulted by the scent of butter and warmth and fluffiness. This dangerous, toxic aroma will possibly compel you to acquire more than three types of cake, several scones, an entire loaf of bread, and countless samples. Am I saying this just because it happened to me? From the lack of table space between the hours of 3 and 5, I can confidently say there's an allure to these carbs in every variety that would lead even the most virtuous of Whole-30/paleo/gluten-free adherents into temptation. If you get one thing, get a scone. The perfectly crumbly apricot cherry vanilla is the clear winner. Ginger comes in second because it's a little tougher texture-wise, but those delectable ginger morsels are to die for. The vegan coconut tasted more like bread - I'd pass. The blueberry compote-topped scone was likewise uninspiring, and in contrast to the saccharine compote, the bread part tasted kind of like cardboard. Bar-wise, the chocolate chip brownie creation is somehow more decadent than the sum of its parts. The OMG is aptly named, and will dependably provoke this reaction in any diehard chocolate lover. The banana chocolate chip bar is oddly cold, and was just OK by my book, but my sister swore by it. There are some interesting flavors here. The chocolate rosemary (Adults Only) cookie has a very strong rosemary taste that I found very off-putting. Likewise, the lemon lavender loaf had a pretty strong taste of lavender, so you have to be chill with that. Still better than the lemon buttercream loaf, which had delicious icing, but was a little too cake-y/not moist enough for my liking. And because it's called PureBREAD (really, maybe it should be purecake?), we had to sample a loaf per day. The cranberry walnut was standout, as was the super seedy (and it felt *somewhat* wholesome eating it because pumpkin seeds are healthy, right?). Holy moly the selection is insane. Got a bunch of stuff to serve as breakfast for the next couple days. Tried the jalapeno cheddar scone and it was perfectly buttery, cheesy, and spicy- highly recommend; pared perfectly with my flat white :) also had them warm up a savory croissant which was filled with mozzerella, tomato and basil. Another fantastic treat. From sweet loafs (carrot, chocolate, fruit) to scones, cookies, brownies, bars and breads the selection is super impressive. WALKING IN TO THE SMELL OF SWEET BUTTER, LIFE JUST GOT BETTER. lol. But seriously, this place is BOMB. I came here twice while visiting Vancouver. I wanted to try all of the pastries but I obviously didn't. What I purchased: Chocolate raspberry cream cheese brownie Lavender earl grey scone (warmed up) Crackbar (don't know what it consisted of but it did have pistachios.) This was one of my favorite spots in Vancouver. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed all my pastries 110%. Nom nom! read more
