Our boys found this place as a recommended bakery so our family of 5 went to check it out for breakfast. There's so many choices that we bought 17 pastries to share. Most of them were delicious! When you hear the gasps, you know that someone has just walked into Purebread for their first time. Immediately, phones are whipped out in an effort to capture the visual splendor of mountains of pastries piled on a long counter. The sheer number of pastries available at any one time is astonishing. I counted at least 80 different items - an amazing achievement considering there are only four bakers per shift. The bakery counter is arranged with the breakfast pastries first, savory, then sweet, and then moving onto tea breads, bars, cookies and breads. It's completely overwhelming, and if you're like me, you'll need to check out the line at least twice before making a decision. Our first visit was for breakfast, so at least I was able to narrow my selections based on meal. The pecan sticky bun was a glorious work of art. The dough was fluffy, with cinnamon sugar in its folds, crowned with a pecan brown sugar topping. It was perfect. The spinach and feta muffin came studded with big chunks of feta and scallions - another winner. Their ham and cheese croissant was not quite as flaky as some French bakeries, but it made a hearty, satisfying brekky for my daughter. Completely besotted with Purebread, we returned for breakfast the next morning. Imagine my surprise when I saw that there were different pastries available. That Nutella-filled bun that I had my eye on? Not available, but there were plenty of other options. The apple tart was quite lovely, with flaky layers and apples that only had the smallest trace of sugar so you could enjoy their natural goodness. The raspberry brioche was nice and light, with bits of raspberry trapped in its swirls. I particularly loved their take on a blueberry scone, with a pool of blueberries oozing down the side. Their bakers enjoy baking, and you can taste the love in their food. No wonder Vancouver is considered one of the most livable cities in the world. Everything is amazingly delicious! The scones were the absolute bomb. I loved loved loved the black pepper 4 cheese scone as it was perfectly peppery and insanely cheesy with lots of crusted cheese on the side. Need more! My other fave was the Rosemary double chocolate sea salt cookie. These weren't available the next day we came, so get a lot while they have em! Wife really like the peach raspberry passion fruit scone (I'm not a big sweet scone guy) The cheese bacon scone was pretty good, but if you like cheese... Go for the 4 cheese one, you won't be disappointed Also had some other cookies, cheese twist, and Nanaimo bar thingy, but you really can't go wrong. Wonderful bakery with a huge assortment of baked goods from sweet to savory. Spent a good amount of time looking and deciding on just a few to try. Order: -Bacon and spinach brioche: Win! This was super yummy. The spinach flavor is infused into the bread. Super light and fluffy. Good balance of flavor -Toffee apple tart: Win! The pastry is buttery and flaky. Gives you big fall vibes. The apple has the perfect sweetness. -Chocolate almond croissant: Miss unfortunately. It was on the more dry side and wasn't as buttery as I had expected. Overall a wonderful experience. I ordered a Morning Glory, I want to say it's like a soft fluffy doughnut filled with vanilla pastry cream covered in cinnamon and sugar. It was AMAZING (especially for breakfast)! Would I go back? I was looking for someplace else and found Purebread. I was tired. Weary and aware that I was on my way towards the Gas Town and East Hastings where there is a tug and pull between shopping carts filled with personal belongings being pulled along the streets and the well to do. You will see EVERYONE here in this neighborhood. The bakery is kind of tucked away in plain sight. Also near an art supply store which is another FANTASTIC reason to explore this area of Vancouver. This Bakery alone is worth the trip. I mean it. So, imagine, after getting lost, finding this oasis. The first thing you notice upon arrival is the bakery case takes up the entire length of the store. And it is chock filled. Packed, the case, with everything you could imagine. Cookies, breads, muffins, cakes, things with icing, things with seeds, I mean everything. The sheer diversity of product is just eye popping drooling brilliant! So I stalked, wandered and started back from the beginning and stalked the counters again. And noticed after admiring lovingly all of the baked goodness, that there was a healthy number of staff people who were...get this...smiling and eager to encourage me while I acted like a fool who had never seen a cake before. Eventually, I did order. Resisting the temptation to take one of everything. I narrowed it down to three. Or four. Check out the website, they have more locations. And by now just opened another. This is a good thing. We need good flour magic in our lives. And they've got the mojo for sure. Everything I selected was unique, well balanced flavor and genuine. The scone was a scone, the cookie was a cookie and the cake was sure enough a cake. Lavender and earl grey scone 4 starts it was one of the good of scones I have had. But still cannot compared to Buchart Gardena scone. I get a good A'Roma of lavender and earl grey. My impression of Purebread is that someone wanted to make the most Instagram-worthy bakery, and then they figured out recipes after the fact. The visual effect when you walk in is pretty stunning. Heaps and heaps of massive pastries, dotted with fruit and draped in rich glazes and frostings. It's got kind of a cinematic quality that reminds me of some of the Great Hall feast scenes from Harry Potter. Purebread smells like butter and vanilla and everything you want from a bakery. Concept: 10/10. Execution: 6/10. Sometimes the pastries are hit and miss. The creme brulee bun, all the scones, the raspberry rhubarb brioche, and the ham and egg brioche are all winners. A few others are massive, overly sweet, bland, and crumbly. Avoid anything that appears to have icing sugar as a key ingredient. Sometimes their pastry case gets filled with crumbs and leans more towards decay than decadence. Like everything Insta-worthy, the prices are jacked. read more

What a nice view of baked stuff! Standing at corner of counter, I had a little panic not to be able to decide what I want in a minute. As I have non refined sugar diet now, I wanted to have something savory. Then found cheesy edged corn bread at end! Lots of cheese, chives inside. Chili on top. Came here for breakfast while I was in town, it's in Gastown off Hastings so it was about a 8 block walk for me but it was worth it. It's right around the corner from Meat & Bread sandwich place. Wasn't too busy when we came by, it was nice & chill relaxing morning vibe inside. Oh my, the display is quite spectacular, so many sweet and savory items to choose from. It was definitely tough to make a decision. After a few minutes or so, our life decision was made and we got the Bacon & Egg Brioche thing. It was nice & savory, cheesy, egg-y, bacon-y as the name suggests. We also decided to get something sweet as well and chose the Lemon Curd thing, looked like a lemon donut. It was nicely made, dusted in fine sugar, crisp on outside, fluffy on inside. It wasn't an actual donut but some kind of hybrid. Lemon curd was super delicious and it satisfied our sweet tooth. Coffee was tasty as well but not sure what kind they use. Keep in mind, they do not have any flavored syrups to make those fancy latte drinks. Staff was very friendly and helpful, not too cheerful & perky in the morning because that's annoying when you haven't had your coffee. We all know. Prices are a bit on the high side but everything seems to be homemade and was very good, so I guess it's justifiable. Whatever. Clear and bus your own table. When my husband and I were in Vancouver, Canada B.C., we wanted a sweet snack and happened upon a cute little shop called Purebread. We went inside and couldn't believe our eyes! This place was PACKED with the most beautiful treats I had ever seen in one place. There were cakes, breads, brownies, cookies, tarts, muffins, croissants, and so many other amazing treats. We picked our desserts and coffee and sat at a cute little table. I liked the little knick-knacks that were sprinkled around the store. There was a cute typewriter, a brick wall, photos, cute lights, a bucket of umbrellas, and pink cut carnations in a vase on the tables. We had a great time at Purebread and will be sure to visit again the next time we travel to Vancouver! read more

Second time at Purebread after brunch at Nemesis (I will be posting that review shortly). First time at this location though. For more items, check out my review of the Broadway location which I just posted. Crack bar (4.5/5) This was very nice. Although it was pretty sweet, I liked the flavour and the texture. It's basically like a butter tart but with oats instead of a tart pastry shell. I pretty much inhaled the whole thing. Chocolate pecan bar (2/5) This was better than the PB chocolate cake, but the pecans didn't really have much flavour. The chocolate shortbread bottom didn't really taste like much either. I was told that there was peanut butter in it, but I couldn't taste it at all. There were a couple sad chocolate chips at the top, which didn't help the fact that the whole thing just tasted like honey-glazed nothingness. PB chocolate cake (1/5) This was very disappointing. I didn't like the taste of the cake at the bottom, as it was very crumbly and it had a weird texture which kind of reminded me of the vegan double chocolate donut from Lucky's doughnuts which I didn't like (you can check out my review of their donuts if you're interested). The PB icing on the top was basically just sugar, and had no PB flavour whatsoever. Even though this visit was kind of a hit and miss, I still love Purebread, and I will be back to try more of their other items. At least now I know what not to get! read more

Boyfriend wanted a place to do some work and I wanted to go somewhere to try butter tarts. Purebread was the best of both worlds! Super cute decor and ambiance, jazzy music, and a fantastic spread of baked goods. Creme Brulee Bun -- tastes as good as it looks; the cracking sound of the burnt sugar as you bite into it is very satisfying and my boyfriend loved the filling (he's a big creme brulee fan) Butter tart -- way better than I could've imagined! perfectly crumbly and not super sweet, the ratio of filling to crust made for just the right bite each time My boyfriend also got a latte and they made a delicate leaf design on top. My sister and I stopped in here for a "light" breakfast before hitting the sites while visiting Vancouver. The display of pastries and baked goods when you walk in is impressive. They have a variety of traditional things like Pecan Rolls (we shared this, it was uh-mazing), scones, and muffins combined with more experimental baked goods like a Curry Turnover (which my sister got and loved) and a Spinach Feta stuffed brioche (also delicious). I also had an Americano which was prepared well. The wait wasn't long when we came during brunch hours on a Saturday - maybe 10 minutes, if that. The staff was super friendly and helpful and once we ordered we received our warmed food quickly. This isn't a complaint HOWEVER, be aware that their portion sizes are HUGE (in my opinion). I could barley finish my brioche bun. Definitely a place to go with friends so you can try multiple things :) read more

#pureheavenatpurebread is instantly what I coined the moment I walked in this bakery. Nestled in Gastown on Hastings Street, this little cozy bakery is no ordinary bakery... No, no, no... this little gem is to die for in my opinion. Once I convince Simon Cowell to make me a judge on a food network version of America's Got Talent (AGT) I would immediately have a preemptively strike the golden buzzer. PUREBREAD was first seeded into my radar from associates I know, and since I frequent Gastown it became a destination to visit. I was told that I would love this bakery given how much I love baked goods, I went to grab a cup of java and perhaps a muffin. So imagine and picture yourself, a mid-week weekday it's a 10:00am walk on a slight windy yet sunny morning. Strolling up Hastings St in my peacoat dying for my morning coffee and biscuit of some sort I was definitely feeling excited about this place, also, to be honest, I had thoughts of "maybe this place is over exaggerated and overhyped." Approaching PUREBREAD I could see the plethora of people clamoring into the establishment and knew I would be in for a treat, a heavenly treat. Once I open the door I was hit with waves of roasted coffee beans, espressos, fresh-baked goods wholesome smells, my face immediately lit up, I will be forever constantly dreaming about their pastries and henceforth like a ROYAL KING addressing his loyal subjects will declare PUREBREAD bakery as the standards amongst all bakeries will be compared to. My eyes were seriously hard-core food-porning, they felt like falling out of my eye sockets. I haven't looked at things this hard since I first learned of Pornhub back in the days, haha which then got replaced by my Uber Hot Girl which if I could YELP review her I would give her a 6 STAR rating. With piles and piles of baked goods, you will for sure find 1, not 2, not 3, but a bunch of goods you want to buy and bring back to your people. Vegan, Gluten, straight sugar, traditional, god only knows this place has covered their demographic. I walked in with the goal of getting a coffee and muffin and walked out with enough pastries and 2 hot beverages that would have me rival the energizer bunny and put me into a diabetic coma. Walking in it's like I walked into my own food dream. Cue the heavenly ethereal angels sighing. I honestly don't have the willpower to just get one item whenever I'm at a bakery. I end up getting a crisp buttery croissant for right now, a decadent crack bar (just like the crack pie at Milk in NYC) for when I get to my car, a crumbly scone for the ride home and a peanut butter bar for when I'm parked. Oh my goodness. I was in town and came here because of several recommendations. It didn't disappoint. The breads and pastries are out of this world. I had a bacon and gruyere brioche and I thought that if that was my last meal, I'd be just fine. So many delectables to choose from and if it hadn't been my last day in town, I would have stopped by every day. You can tell they put a lot of effort into the quality and clearly know how to showcase their artistry (see my pics). I can't wait to come back again. I have heard about this place prior to the visit, but completely forgot about it. However, for sure, we made the right choice to visit. We only grabbed lemon brownie and jalapenos cheddar scones. Walking into this place, it smells and looks like what heaven would be. It took me a good 5 minutes to decide what to try and I was really lucky there was no line (although one formed soon after). I picked out their white chocolate raspberry scone to try in the store and an almond croissant, egg and proscuitto brioche and apple turnover to go. Having only tried the scone, it is definitely a heavy treat with a nice caramelized crumb and on the sweeter side, it was deliciously buttery. I couldn't really taste the white chocolate but the occasional bites of raspberry were little pockets of refreshment while the actual scone itself was crumbly and scrumptious. Overall, theres a reason this place is so popular, it just takes a long time picking something! read more
