Lewiston is very, very lucky to have Pure Thai. I've lived in Los Angeles and NYC, have eaten lots of Thai food in both places, and can tell you from experience that Pure Thai is The Real Deal. Their house soup, with tofu and bok choi, is sublime in its perfection. Their Pad Thai is excellent. Lunch specials are very affordable and arrive quickly. Best of all, the staff is wonderful -- very caring, gracious, and personable. If I went to Bates College, I'd be eating, here or ordering take-out from here, weekly. It doesn't look like much, but I highly recommend. The food was great and if you ask for advice, you'll get it. We went by their spice recommendations, which was great for one of us, the other needed more. They brought more chili paste to accommodate. We ordered a bunch of food. The dumplings were great, the pad see ew was nice, the Tom yum soup was excellent. The service was wonderful. My friend and I tried this restaurant the other day. We were both from Boston and had Thai food at least once per week. We can tell that food here didn't taste right. Somehow, the flavor was really off from an authentic one. We both felt like the dishes were missing something, but we cannot identify what they were missing. The beef in my noodle dish was hard and not tender; it didn't feel really fresh. The rice noodle itself was also not tender and it tasted like it had been soaked in the water for days. The woman server with white hair was pretty annoying. She was loud while talking to customers and did not provide much service. Overall, I would not recommend this Thai restaurant. If you ever visit Boston, try a Thai place there and you can immediately tell the difference in quality, taste and service. read more

Customer service is always great here. You're remembered and welcomed happily each time whether you are dining in or taking out. I love the Thai coffee with boba but this time around the flavor was bland compared to usual. If you're not satisfied with your dish they offer to make it again for you free of charge. I decided to try Pure Thai after hearing a friend rave about the place. I was always hesitant due to its location, not a nice part of town. The inside is more open than I expected, but small with only 8 tables. It was clean, and I loved the open kitchen- you can rarely see what goes on in the kitchen these days. I ordered two different types of dumplings, and both were excellent. The steamed Thai dumplings are slightly sweet, with nice peanut flavor. The Pure Thai dumplings were basically a shrimp and chicken shumai. For the meal, I had the chicken pumpkin curry. It was spicy, cooked perfect, and all ingredients seemed fresh. Very tasty. First, I would like to say that the staff is so friendly and warm. They go out of their way to make sure you feel welcome and your food tastes good. Second, their food is extremely delicious. I had Pumpkin Curry Shrimp! Yum! It was incredibly tasty. They say that you can tell a place gives you good food when the flavor alone fills you. That describes this place. Add to that I had their Thai Bubble Tea. Yum! Third, everything is very clean and I like the homey ambience of this place. Fourth, I did not expect the prices to be as reasonable as they are. Oh, I do love their steamed dumplings! My only critique is they don't give you sauce which is a tad on the skimpy side when the prices are generous. I also think as a business, if the city of Lewiston doesn't plow your business sidewalks - you should shovel more than just your delivery door - for the customer that is paying you generously. Absolutely amazing! Everything we tried was so good. We both got a bubble tea and they were really good. He got the coconut and I got the Thai tea. My husband and I each got a Tom Kha soup and it was fantastic. It had all the elements of the soup I love but was slightly lighter than the typical Tom kha soup. It had tons of mushrooms and chicken and was velocity and delicious! (obviously I really liked the soup lol) Ben got the spicy pad Thai with seafood. It was definitely on the spicy side but he loved it! The scallops were buttery and cooked perfectly. I got the special of the day: crispy duck curry. That duck was incredible! Perfect crispy outside and tender on the inside. The server told me it typically comes with a red a curry but I substituted for the yellow. It was bursting with flavor! Lots of perfectly cooked veggies, peppers, carrots, snow peas, and pineapple. We finished dinner with mango sticky rice. We left with a huge bag of leftovers! The food at Pure Thai is delicious! I ordered food to go as I'm on a business trip alone and am not fond of dining solo. The food was so good I ordered again the next day for dinner. The service was quick and extremely polite. My order took a few minutes longer than expected, which wasn't even a slight problem for me, but they included fried bananas because they felt they inconvenienced me (they totally didn't)! Had one of the lunch specials: chicken pad thai and fried spring rolls for $7.00 and change. Lots of big chunks of chicken, well flavored, crunchy green onions and minced peanuts in an excellently sauced pile of noodles. Much more food than I could eat. I wish I had not been in Lewiston only for the day, or I would go back and try everything on their menu. The cook, the lady who took my order, and another lady who seemed like the manager were all really polite and friendly. Some regulars came in while I was eating and got big hellos all around. Following up on an earlier comment, in the middle of the day at lunchtime Pure Thai didn't seem like "a little bit of a dive." It's a simply-decorated, no-frills storefront place in an old two-storey building, with a pressed tin ceiling and two windows either side of the door. There were some cute parasols suspended upside down a couple inches below the ceiling on monofilament and simple tables along one long wall. The other long wall has a counter with four or five stools behind which all the cooking is done. Everyone who is hungry and in or near Lewiston should try this place. (PS I wrote this last summer and forgot to post it until now.) read more

The food here is not bad, but there always seems to be an issue. The delivery driver won't leave the food in front of my apartment door so I have to go out to the street to meet her which is a big inconvenient as I work from home. This is the only restaurant that won't bring it to my apartment door. One time I had to meet her on the other end of the block which ended up getting me in trouble with work. Last night I ordered Tom yum soup and it only had one shrimp in it. It was a large container of broth with one lonely shrimp in it. Way too expensive for that kind of thing. Luckily there are at least three other Thai restaurants within a 5 mile radius so I don't see myself going there again. read more

I would give the food a 4, but everything else would get a 5. The staff is so friendly, the establishment is clean, prices are pretty low for quality Thai food. Food was late as usual, the cashier messed up the bill, and they also charged me for a dish that I didn't even order. When I called back for a simple apology, I got nothing. The curries are delicious, my favorite being the fattening matsaman, which is made with sweet potatoes. I had the panang curry as well and it was wonderful and fresh. The food was very very good. Some of the best Thai I've had in Maine. The Duck Pancake was wonderful as was my main dish a thai basil curry. My girlfriend had the pumpkin curry and it was HUGE. The quality was great, the place was super clean, there weren't many other people eating in while we were there, but it was at like 2 on a Sunday afternoon. Finally had a chance to try Pure Thai Kitchen and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. Put simply, it's really solid Thai food. Not "Solid for Maine" or "Solid for Lewiston" but if tonight's three dishes were any indication, it's just plain solid without qualifiers. Everything was fresh and well-seasoned, the service was good, and the prices were extremely reasonable. The "duck pancake" is basically a small wrap, a seared flour tortilla wrapped around carrots, greens, and duck lightly drizzled with peanut sauce. I'm a peanut sauce freak so I could have done with slightly more of it for dipping, but it's an extremely satisfying appetizer regardless. I generally only order larb when it's made with duck, as I've always found the ground chicken versions flabby and kind of tasteless. Pure goes heavy on the fish sauce, onions, shallots, and scallions to compensate and their version is definitely flavorful. What really impressed me were the greens served alongside however. At most places on a weekend night these would likely be a wilted afterthought but Pure's were gorgeous and incredibly fresh. Maybe they'd been purchased that day from the L/A farmer's market? Regardless, they made the dish. Thai Basil Fried Rice is easy to phone in, but Pure's version was well-rendered as well; a large serving that was spicy without being mouth-numbing, with a surprising amount of chicken. We'd walked in hungry but certainly not starving figuring we'd be taking some leftovers home. When we finally looked up we were surprised to realize there wasn't enough left to bother. By the time we were done, not much remained. There are still more dishes to try and maybe we just got lucky on a quiet night but one way or another I'll definitely be going back. I'm really excited to have such a great cheap takeout spot in the neighborhood. read more

The pad Thai is nothing compared to the pad Thai from vientianne market take out or eat in in Portland. It does not come close. The prices are a bit more than vientianne as well.
