The hostess and server were efficient and professional. The lunch meals were savory, well portioned, absolutely delicious, an led visually stimulating! I ordered the red curry with chicken and my date had the pineapple fried rice with chicken. Both dishes were served hot, fresh and perfectly seasoned! 10 out of 10!!! It had been a few years since our last visit, and it's still every bit as good as we remembered. They've changed owners since then, but the food still has that same fresh flavor we originally fell in love with. We recently came in for a birthday dinner with a large group, and they handled it wonderfully. Orders came out quickly, everything was correct, and everyone left full and happy. Said our order was going to be ready at 6:25, waited from 6:30 to 7:25 in the restaurant for our order because they didn't give us a time it would be ready. Weren't offered water or a discount, which is not the end of the world but there wasn't even a sincere apology given to us for waiting an hour and a half for our food. We are blessed many good Asian restaurants back home. especially Vietnamese, Japanese',and Thai, as well as few up scale Asian fusion places. We were not expecting to experience suck high quality Asian food in a small Maine town. The sushi rolls were HUGE,and really delicious. My daughter had a crispy roll with a honey sauce that was unique and rather scrumptious. The Thai fried rice was a solid choice. The sauce with the chicken satay didn't look that great, but it tasted wonderful, and the chicken, which is frequently dry, was nice and juicy. We enjoyed several lovely curries as well. I would also like to say that the service was excellent, very pleasant, very thoughtful. The atmosphere feels rather homey, Not fancy, but peaceful and calm, which is what we needed. Having heard good things about Orchid for years, I was excited about the chance to finally go. My first impression upon walking in was that the atmosphere was underwhelming. It was dark brown and barren. There was not much decor aside from basketry shades on hanging lamps, and a sickly bamboo sprout in a pot at our table (see photo). How easy it would be to spruce things up with a few orchids -- even artificial ones! -- here and there. There were large TVs at the bar and the restaurant has a dropped/suspended ceiling, as many offices do. Five beers were listed on two chalkboards that were either difficult or impossible to see from our booth. Of the five beers listed, two were out, which was frustrating. Is it hard to update a chalkboard? When we asked a couple of questions of different staff members, they either replied with one-word answers and immediately walked away (rude), or told us they didn't know the answers and didn't make an effort to find out. One waitress was dressed professionally, but another, in a baggy t-shirt and with clips in her hair, looked like she had just rolled out of bed, and another, in jean shorts and a t-shirt, looked like a burger diner employee. This makes for a confusing impression: who works here, and what kind of restaurant is this? Overall, the staff appeared and behaved unprofessionally, and not like they worked at a restaurant where entrees were as expensive as they are at Orchid. I ordered the pad thai with fried tofu ($15.50) while another person in our party ordered it with fresh tofu. I should have also chosen the fresh tofu -- the oil that my tofu was fried in was the predominant taste in the pad thai: heavy and with a slightly burned aftertaste. My pad thai was chocolate-brown in color while the other one was much lighter. I had indigestion for hours afterward. The sushi offerings are all fusion sushi, meaning they have traditional and nontraditional ingredients. This does not have to be a bad thing, but reading the sushi menu, I felt that I was seeing the same 7 ingredients -- among them, cream cheese, asparagus, and "eel honey sauce" -- used over and over in varying combinations. The "Tiger Roll" (see photo) had imitation crab, avocado, and tempura flakes, and was heavy on the "eel honey mayo sauce." This is not clean-tasting sushi, but heavier sushi that one should manage their expectations about and, in my opinion, is not worth the money. read more

In Maine for work and wanted to try the Asian food around my hotel. Started with lychee martini, Mai Thai, eggrolls & veggie gyoza. After 15ish mins I wanted an update on my drinks and eventually it came along w the apps. No alcohol in it or lychee garnish but I didn't feel like being complicated considering not a lot of staff on a busy Friday. The eggrolls and gyoza were nice and fresh no complaint there. For dinner I decided the Thai noodle soup. I think the flavor was there but the overall plate was too plain for me. I am used to Pho or Katiev noodle soup and having the option for garnish such as limes, mint, beansprouts, etc. with Thai noodle soup they only have 1 option of meat, the raw onions were THICKLY cut, the only veggie is beansprouts which they place in the noodles instead of on the side like most places. I felt like a child eating noodles and soup, so I wouldn't try it again. I think the food is very mediocre. I didn't mention earlier but hosts contributed to 2 as she only greeted and seated certain people first. As for the food, most people who may not have other Asian cuisines available to them in this area, would like it. I can see why they are able to up-charge. read more

This review is for the pho only. As a Asian fusion restaurant the pho here is not authentic. It is missing the pho aroma, the broth is not very flavorful, the combo meat is nothing but just slices of pork (should not be in pho) and beef . The beef slices were not tender and was overcooked. The broth is not very beefy and they used a mixture of pork and beef in broth. Even though basil and sprout were given, they missed out on lime and jalapeños. I wanted to try this and as one of my staff was celebrating her birthday and she loved pho , I decided to buy us all lunches. Due to time constrain this year I did not have the time to cook the pho myself. The only thing that I liked was the pho noodle which was cooked al dente. There are 2 places in Lewiston that offered pho and neither has a decent pho and broth. read more

I have only been to Orchid once, but its one of the better sushi restaurants in the Lewiston/Auburn area. I like to sit at the bar where the Sushi Chef is located to watch as they build each of the dishes that I order. I am just fascinated with the precision and technique that goes into building each type of rolls or sashimi platter. The overall decor is what you would expect from a typical Sushi restaurant with different period paintings and lighting. The staff I found very friendly and always offering suggestions especially if it is your first time at their establishment. I had two of their specialty rolls: the red dragon and the dancing eel. Some squirm at the thought of eating eel, but I loved it and the eel sauce they make is worth licking off the plate. I wouldn't recommend doing that, but I always ask for a little extra when they drizzle it over my roll. They do not offer reservations and sit guests based on first-come-first-serve. Parking can be difficult on Main Street, but there is a parking garage off Oak Street that has reasonable prices. I would highly recommend this place as they have great food, staff, decor and it will keep you coming back for more in my book. This place is a gem! When you enter the restaurant , you would feel the good energy right all over you and this speaks volume for the staff and the owners, they are so passionate and committed to presenting their best. I arrived here in the company of my family and friends and we had some of the best food we had not tasted before and everyone went above and beyond to make us understand their dishes and even more so to make sure we had enough. We shared a variety of dishes and everything was simply on point. I would say if you are visiting Lewiston for the first time or you are simply passing through town, make this place one of your stops, you will walk away with great memories. My wife and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. We haven't been to Orchid in a few years and wanted to check it out. We had enjoyed it quite a bit on a previous visit. We had sushi specifically the dragon roll which was incredible. This time we figured we try some different entrées. I got the spicy Thai basil which was incredible. Different presentation than most other Thai restaurants. Super tasty and wonderful. My wife got the spicy tuna roll which was also great. I've probably been here a dozen times and have never had a bad experience, service or food wise. Its a small spot but it gets the job done. Your standard menu for Thai dishes, and a good sized list of sushi rolls to choose from too. Their rotating craft beer draft selection is pretty decent as well. Bridget at the bar has been there for a bit now, and she's fantastic to talk to. The parking can be difficult if you're not familiar with the area. We stayed in Lewiston recently and ate here one evening because it was a short walk from our hotel and had good ratings on Yelp. We liked it so much we went back the next night. Over the course of two evenings, we ate pork dumplings, pork gyoza, all three curries they offer (red, Penang, & Massamun), and the cashew stirfry. Everything was delicious. The dumplings and gyoza were perfectly cooked. The curries were delicious (favorites being Penang and Massamun). Cashew stirfry was good, but more like sweet/sour chicken because of the addition of pineapple. There are local beers on tap and the service was attentive. If I lived here, I would be getting takeout or eating here at least once per week. read more

I LOVE Orchid. The food is beyond good. The appetizers are the perfect size, the sushi is fresh, the noodles are not sticky and over sauced. I mainly consume sushi when I go here, but you can not go wrong with trying out a Thai or Vietnamese noodle/rice dish. Note, if you can't do spicy go for a 0 or 1 out of 5...the cooks tend to make things on the spicier side. Also, if you have any dietary restrictions, just let your server know! The staff here is more than willing to discuss meal options or possible custom orders with you (I went with a vegan friend and were very accommodating for her). The food is hands down my favorite part of Orchid, but there are many other reasons to dine here. The staff is amazing (especially that bartender!). It is cozy and just upscale enough decor-wise to make you feel like you are "out" on the town / having a special meal. If you can't find parking on the street, be sure to check the parking garage on Park St - it is free after 6pm and on weekends! This is my favorite sushi restaurant! The service is always amazing. Sometimes wait times can be up to an hour for the sushi because it is so popular but it is worth it. The sushi rolls are huge, you can definitely get away with just ordering one and being full. My favorite roll is the Orange Dragon but the other rolls I have tried are all very good as well. I called and ordered food from Orchid for my employees today and when I called was instantly told no Sushi today. ( the reason we chose this establishment) Still decided to order Lunch from them anyways. I sent a co worker to go pick up the food and when she returned she mentioned the total of the food was a lot more then what the website stated. when I called the restaurant to find out why the bill was more then what the website showed they said; " The prices you are referring to is the lunch menu prices, (I called at 11:41AM) you have to specifically state that you want the lunch portion when ordering." I said; "I placed the order at 11:41AM.... LUNCH TIME. Why would would I need to state I want the "lunch portion" when I'm calling at lunch time?" Now could understand if it was lunch time and I wanted the dinner portion, but that was not the case. The person on the phone told me to "remember it for next time", I told them there will be no next time.... I should not have to state what portion I am purchasing unless I want something offered at another time. not only did I get charged more for what I ordered... I all was told that the food would be ready in 20 min. I called at 11:41AM and arrived at 12:13 for pick- up and did not receive my take out order until 12:24PM. I never leave reviews, but I'm sorry the correct thing to do FIRST! is at least apologize. We've come here twice now for weekly date night. Both times were incredible! We're going to have trouble expanding our horizons beyond such a consistently fabulous meal. The first time, we shared pork gyoza, the Black Dragon roll and Panang curry. The sushi was some of the best I've ever had. Flavorful, texturally interesting, perfect temperature...awesomeness. The Panang was tasty as well. Thanks to the reasonable portion sizes, we were comfortably full, even with two beers each. Second meal was even better - egg rolls, Spider roll (Softshell crab!), and Pad See Ewe. I order pad see ewe a lot, and this is honestly the best I've had. Silky, not slimey, just the right amount of heat, and perfectly crunchy veggies.
