Somewhat noticeable splotchy polish on big toe.
Toni-Marie M.

I was hoping to get a thorough pedicure before my vacation and ended up with an embarrassing, half done mess in the end. I booked day of and they were even able to accommodate me early which is where one star comes from. The other is that they have the widest array of colours I've seen (and I later learned they had even MORE I hadn't looked at). Otherwise, the service was a disaster. I initially wanted their Pure Premium Pedicure which included extra callous care- what I was mainly looking for. When I got there, I was advised against it and instead opted for their Footsies which included a paraffin treatment. The girl was silent the entire time and they had on the most... interesting Tiffany Haddish movie on (sex scenes, swearing and offensive jokes). Everything was... subpar. She filed my feet for what seemed like 2 minutes which was the first thing that tipped me off as I knew my feet needed more than that. Then, the paraffin only covered my toes and even after trying to move it around myself, never got to my heels or sides. My bright yellow polish got two coats yet STILL was splotchy and all over my skin which was only slightly cleaned up. I also have no pinky toe nails and told her I did not want them painted but she still painted them anyways saying "it'll look better". Best part? Every time she stepped away, she went to sit on the couch in the corner directly across from my on her phone. At one point, she also went to get Starbucks downstairs when I was trying to get someone to help my burning feet. Not once was I explained the process or what I was supposed to do when she stepped away. I also came in for Happy Hour which took 5 minutes to apply after I noticed the amount they initially told me was too high. Thankfully, they honoured it but I know for the service I got, it still was not worth the price. Five steps down the hall, I turned to look at my heels and low and behold there were still callouses on my feet after I was discouraged to get the Premium package due to not needing it- the one I personally WANTED and knew I needed. I will not be going to any Pure Nail Bar again. I tried attaching some photos of the aftermath but I do not have a great camera. Note the callouses and dead skin, pinky toe, and poor polish application/clean up.

If not for the summer special - $50 for mani-pedi plus FREE slippers - I would not be here. My friend and I made a 6:00PM appointment on a Friday. That's their latest appointment for mani-pedi, in case you're wondering! When I got there, they wasted no time. I was shown to a chair and two girls came right away to work on me. Before I knew it, my arms were tangled and my legs were on the perch. I didn't even have time to choose my polish colors! I did not like that my manicure was done from one side of my chair. Crossing my arms over a large arm chair was quite uncomfortable. I would have preferred that she moved from the left side of my chair to right, and so forth, while working on my hands. The pedi was OK. The scrubbing wasn't thorough. I completely missed the massage. I'm sure she did it, but I was so busy crossing and uncrossing my arms that I missed the action on my legs. The mani was not impressive. She cleaned up my nails quite nicely, but everything else was disappointing. I paid attention to my hand massage and it was very... delicate. I said "Don't be afraid to hurt me," but I guess she didn't understand that. The girls were Vietnamese or Thai - typical for any nail spa. Finally, the polish application. My toes look fine. But my fingers look awful. I blame the angle of my hands from being crossed over my body and the armchair, as well as the fact that she may not have been 100% while working on my mani. I found out later that a party of 10 or more bride and bridesmaids were coming in for a bridal shower. Well, I'd hate to think that my mani-pedi was compromised on account of the bridal shower. On the bright side, I did get a pair of bright, pink flip-flops. They are surprisingly comfortable. ...Now I'm just scraping the bottom of the tin for a silver lining to this experience. Regrets? No. Would I come back? No.

C'mon people, put some effort into foot filing. I ended up removing all this dead skin from my feet less than 4 hours after my pedicure.

3-stars because I've certainly had worse. Booked in here last minute, exactly four weeks after previous "pedicure" at Kaen. I was greeted promptly and told to select a colour from the many colours on the shelves. I noted at least two huge sections of colours that would have cost an extra $5 over the run-of-the-mill OPI polishes that are prevalent in this industry. I chose a standard OPI polish at no additional charge. I am anti-pedicure chair (breeding ground for infections) as I have yet to come across a spa that sanitizes the massage chairs according to health regulations. No, spraying disinfectant and then wiping it with a rag is NOT a proper disinfecting of the basin according to health standards! So extra points to Pure for doing pedis the sanitary way in a stainless steel basin. The technician unwrapped the pedi tools from the paper wrapper (taken out of the autoclave). That's a great sign that sanitization of tools is important in this place. The technician asked me how short I wanted my nails. She did not ask me if I wanted my nails rounded or square. Generally I like the way the tech worked on my feet except for the fact that the filing was still not up to par. I am getting so tired of places that do a mediocre filing job. She did use a micoplane on my feet but it didn't do all that great of a job. The attached photo shows the dead skin I removed from my feet with my own foot files less than 4 hours after my pedicure. I may or may not go back to Pure. A couple of the ladies working in Pure barely spoke English. The woman who booked my appointment over the phone was very difficult to understand and I'm guessing my request was lost in translation. I am 99% certain I booked the pedicure with Paraffin treatment. I didn't get the paraffin treatment nor was I charged for it. That's okay as I was starting to get antsy to get out of there because of the TV being on and the chairs were extremely filthy. The chairs are white which looks nice at a distance but when you're sitting in them you can see a plethora of cup/glass stains on the arms of the leather chairs. It doesn't give a good feel at all. I did not like the fact that the technician actually turned her head a handful of times to watch the TV! Two women came in for their appointments. They say they had specifically requested gel polish mani/pedi but they were told there was no time for gel. One woman was quite perturbed and insisted she had requested gel when she booked the appointment. I think this may very well have been another case of "lost in translation". It is conveniently located to my office so chances are I may go there again when I'm in a pickle but this location will not be my "go to" place for pedicures.

I'm so glad I found Waterfront Nails!! ....And I almost didn't find it! PRO TIP: Ask for the public washrooms on the waterfront - the nail salon is the next door over! The directions using iMaps and Google maps takes you to the parking structure of the Convention Center, on the complete opposite side you need to be on. You'll need to walk past the restaurants and go all the way back behind the convention center to the waterfront, and look for the washrooms (or ask a friendly Canadian if they know where the restrooms are) -- Waterfront nails is right next to it. I walked in 30 minutes before they were supposed to close, and there were only 2 people in the salon. Both women were friendly and I did not feel rushed or awkward. I got a jelly cat eye gel manicure, and it is gorgeous! I can't remember the woman's name, but she did such a good job that 3 weeks later, even with my nails grown out, the gel manicure is still solid and shiny! No peeling, chipping or other damage. And trust me, I am rough on my nails.

Best mani/pedi I've ever had. The ladies were truly skilled, professional, and kind. Thank you!read more

You tell me if this sounds fishy to you…read more I walked in today to simply get a basic mani and before I even sat down the girl at the front asked me for my credit card number. I was confused. I asked her why and she told me to hold my spot. Hold my spot? So, I asked her if she wanted me to come back later?....."No, no...." she said, I can take you now. Now I was even more baffled. I told her I'd be paying with debit and she told me well that's totally different. If you want to book online for next time you come in...it will be easier for you with your CC information registered online. Well, first off....how do you know I'll be back.....secondly, can't I just do that myself at home in the comfort of my own space and privacy? Her approach to getting my credit card info. just felt very out of bounds and forced making me feel very uncomfortable. I clarified to her: I just want a basic mani, paying debit when it's done. What do you need my credit card number for? When she realized that I wasn't into the whole...."let's share private information thang" she backed off. To be honest, at that point I was a bit startled, because just about a month ago I had fraudulent theft on my debit card and Vancouver at the moment is under serious ID theft and credit theft. Once she allowed me to enter past the Welcome matt without grabbing my credit card information, she asked me to pick a colour. Two things happened while I was trying to find my colour at the wall in the back. 1. I didn't find any colour I liked (very limited colour selection) 2. The red flags just didn't go away. It just felt off. I left without getting my nails done. I pick a colour. you paint my nails. I pay debit. We all go home happy. What do you need my credit card information for?

I wasn´t going to give away my secret but then I thought: "Give to Caesar what is Caesar´s."…read more I´ve gone to Minoko by myself and with my cousin (she loved them too) more than 4 times. Although I haven´t repeated technician, I have no complains at all...weird! They must be extremely picky when hiring staff because they treat nails like art. Having good-looking hands is a pricey beauty investment ($100+ a month for mani-pedi shellac), so I really appreciate when my money is worth. The confidence on their crew´s skills is evident, they offer a 7 days guarantee: no frowning faces if you call to complain about chipped nails. The massage chairs are trendy with a cheerful orange colour. They give coffee&tea within a zen ambiance. I like the variety of nail polishes and the politeness of the girls. You´ll need to make an appointment, sometimes they don´t answer right away because they´re usually busy, but they do call back if you leave a message.

She has precision and pays special attention to detail. I brought my GF with me. She is very picky and after we were done she messaged me saying "best nails ever! " ( Joy did her nails ) my husband said the exact same thing when he saw mine! They have a huge selection/ variety of different nail art styles to choose from. Bring in a photo or let them help you decide. I got a combination of chrome and glass ( Mylar ) with a skull charm and a big bow charm on the other hand. Very pleased with the results. It took a bit longer then I would like, but the results were worth it and having my friend there getting hers done beside me made time go by quickly. The salon is very clean and well organized. Very hygienic. Lots of samples to chose from. Can't wait to bring my husband there with me for a pedicure ! ( boy does he sure need one ! ) The price for MY nails before tip was **153$ . She was great to let me know cost before proceeding ( which is awesome as many I have done to don't do this ) It may seem pricy but the quote "cheap is never good and good is never cheap" comes to mind. Last set of nails I got ( in Vegas at the spa at the Mirage ) were way more expensive, for basic nails that peeled, had bumps under one nail and no nail art at all. For what Lisa did, it was well worth it !! ** this does not reflect the price of ALL nail sets, I had gel nails, plus the chrome overlay, plus the "glass" /milar overlay (which she hand cut and placed on my nails ) plus 1 XL charm and another L charm both with crystals on them ) Very happy and will return and defiantly recommend! Thanks Lisa & Joy !
