When I called to complain after the lady who answered said it was just for men (poster did not say that - women in the photos on it), then it was do I have thick hair - come on - a blunt cut on reasonable hair. I give this 2.5 stars My friend and I went here for mani-pedis yesterday. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were told to pick our nail polish colours. After we picked our nail polish colours we sat down. Someone came to start working on my friend, but no one came to serve me. Ten minutes AFTER our appointment start time a lady who had been sweeping and doing other things finally came to start my service. After my friend and I had left we both noticed that we could see our nails were unevenly coated (you could see where a coat hadn't covered the nail where a previous coat had), and I noticed that a big portion of the top of one of my toe nails had been missed as well. So, while the experience itself was pretty good (aside from me starting 10 minutes late), the end result wasn't great. read more

I've been here a few times and each time has been a little different... The first time I left feeling a little sour. My interaction with the woman who did my nails wasn't the best. My nails lasted for two weeks and looked great but my cuticles and skin around my nails was ripped apart. She was really rough when massaging my hands and cracked my knuckles and not in the good way. I left the store feeling sour about the whole experience. Some employees are so sweet and do an amazing job though and redeem it from the less amazing ones. I think her name is vaneska (So sorry if im not right...im soo bad with names) and she's now done my nails and my friends and she does such a good job. She's very meticulous and makes sure your nails are how you want. If I could come back and get my nails done by her every time I totally would. Easy online booking system which is great! read more

Had the worst appointment, not because of employees but bad customer service and a horrible manager. So I had booked an appointment for mani - pedi at 3:00pm on friday 20th July. And I had specially selected a person for this appointment. The person whom I asked for was busy with someone so I was waiting for her. Once she was done, instead of coming to me she was told that another person was waiting who came in before me so she had to go take care of that. I didn't like that at all because if i am making an appointment with a person I expect her time is locked with mine. But that wasn't the case. Looked like they were over booked or something. Anyways I got some other person. Infact I got 2 people. one was doing my manicure and another pedicure. I was being pulled in 2 different directions by these two people. But I have to tell that these 2 ladies were absolutely amazing, they realized I wasn't comfortable and they tried their best to make me feel comfortable. They were the only good thing that day Next is the manager of that location. I am sorry to say but she was an extremely horrible manager. The lady who worked on my nails had used the gel removing machine on my hands. Whenever I remove gel its always through the remover but this time she used that gel removal machine. I didnt know it costs extra, neither did the employee. While I was getting my nails done, this manager comes over asks the employer 'whats the machine doing here?' In a rude tone. employer said 'its for removing the nail polish' and then manager said- 'its 5$ extra' and employee said' Oh am sorry I didnt know' and manager was like 'U should be knowing it' Finally, I said its fine I ll pay extra. I dont have problem in paying but i dont like the way people are treated in the saloon. It was such a hostile environment. I came to this location for the first time asking for polish change for hands and feet with French on both. I was charged $80 and had asked the Manager 3 times to explain why it was so expensive as it was just a polish change (gel hands, regular feet). After a bit of frustration and time constraints I left. 3 days later, the polish on my hands started bubbling and peeling. I went back to get them fixed and was told it was because MY nails grow too fast! The Manager/ owner did not apologize and gave a lot of attitude. With some hesitation, they only agreed to buff and put on a new top coat. Because I always put a light pink as a base when I do French, you could see where it was buffed and where the top coat was- but this was all they would do. Even the girl doing it kept looking at it and smiling saying "at least this is better than before." I left not feeling good about that experience. 2 days later, the bubbling and peeling began again. I ended up going to the Pure nails on Kerr (MUCH better) as I refuse to go back to Marine. I explained the to the nail tech at Kerr location said she said the speed of my nail growth should not have caused the bubbling and peeling and did not agree with just putting on a new top coat as a fix. I ended up having to get a full mani and pedi with new polish and walked out of there only paying $70 (tax included). Do NOT go to the marine location! read more

New favorite place for a mani/pedi around Vancouver. Came here with a group of friends and felt very pampered. The salon (and equipment used) was very clean and modern with plenty of seating. All four of us were very satisfied with how friendly and efficient the staff was and their attention to detail. The staff made sure to adjust the foot rest multiple times during my pedicure for maximum comfort. Also, tons of colors to choose from both normal polish and gel. It is now 1 week out and my gel nails still look pristine and I assume they will stay this way. Would definitely be back again to get my nails done. The quality and service is definitely worth the price. Be sure to make an appointment by phone or online though as they were pretty busy even on a weekday afternoon. read more

I had a facial for the first time today and it WAS AMAZING! so gentle and my skin feels and looks amazing! Only thing is make sure they really check your nails are 100% dry before you leave. I'm afraid this first review isn't going to be a good one. Pure Beauty Bar is a part of the Pure Nail Bar family, except that they also do other services such as hair and waxing. Pure Nail Bars exclusively do nails. Me and my sister in law decided to get our nails done and she mentioned the new location and since it's so close to us, I thought why not. I've been to other PNBs' and had a good experience. I can't say the same for this new location. We made an appointment and when we first came in, the manager/owner asked us to pay upfront so our nails don't get chipped later by looking for our money. Oookaaaay...fine. She never offered us tea or anything. My main issues were that my esthetician was quiet and seemed irritable...and my sister in laws esthetician kept complaining about how much work her nails were. First off, she barely had any nails to file. Secondly..it's your job. Please be professional. Suck it up princess, it's your job. Secondly she cut my nails too short when I told her not too...and also was about to paint then...even though they were filed SLANTED. I'm dead serious. She either has vision issues or simply didn't care and tried to rush me out. Obviously I made her fix it...but honestly...it's ridiculous. I would never come back to this location. Went here to get lash extension and it's been an awful week and a half of having them on. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the technician - she was kind and attentive. My issue surrounds the Customer Service, which has added exponentially to undesirability of this place. All of this began when I went in for my lash appointment at Pure Beauty Bar. I will list some cons below. - The glue is extremely fragrant and makes it impossible to fall asleep; everything smells far too chemical - so much that you become overwhelmed. - You are there for an hour/hour and a half. At other places like Mink or Lash venue, they would have already placed 100+ lashes. However, at this location, the technician barely places 70 in total. - the individual lashes that are used are very plasticky and stiff. As a result, when you are sleeping the lashes are pushed back into the root. My eyes have also become irritated. Upon verbalizing this to whomever I have been emailing, they have no empathy over my situation. This is pretty frustrating when you are paying $100 for a lash service. I am at the point where I am willing to do it myself! Anyway, this place is at a prime location. I can only hope that they increase their quality in goods and services. As of right now, go get your lashes done somewhere else. And from what I have heard, there are a hundred percent better and more affordable nail salons. read more

I had the worst experience at this place at "pure beauty salon for hair"- marine gateway I had an appointment with this lady called Amanda a hair stylist who not only ruined my hair with the wrong hair color but also treated me badly when i confronted her . I enquirer about her certification and she asked me if i have my citizenship to question her about her skills. She was not able to fix my hair or help me out in any way she just bluntly asked me to leave the salon . I was asked to come again the next morning at 8 Am after a lot of argument. The next day morning when i went walked into the door she told me that they r not opening right now and then she dragged me by my hand and yelled at me to walk out. This was the worst experience i ever had. I am thoroughly disappointed and mentally tormented by the way she treated me. I recently visited Pure Nail Bar about a month ago for a Brazilian wax. It is located right under Marine Drive skytrain station so the location is great since I use this station everyday. I was in need of a wax, so after work before going home I walked in to see if they had a space available. The lady at the front desk told me that it would be a little bit of a wait, but I walked in so I totally didn't mind. I waited about 10 minutes and they even gave me some tea! The girl that did the wax was a French lady and she was very nice and professional. I've had some terrible Brazilian waxes before and this wasn't one of them. The person I booked a manicure pedicure combo with decided she doesn't feel like doing my pedicure after finishing my manicure and asked another person to do my pedicure. The person was new but she said she was experienced. She cut me 5 times and used the cuticle cutter to rip off my nail several times. I kept pulling back my foot every time she hurt me, but she didn't stop. I feel like there's too many people I need to avoid here and even if I requested someone I trust more they can't seem to keep me with the same person. Irene the owner is usually at this location, I get shellac pedi done every month,I see a new esthetician every Time I come which is fine. I've never had a issue until the last time. My pedicure did not last the colour started peeling after a week, not sure why & I've always paid $55 plus tax for a shellac pedi and last time she charged me $65,so I ask her why is it 65 and it wasn't the esthetician ringing me in it was the stylist. She said removing the old shellac off I said well obviously you would remove that before you paint on the new colour isn't it included with the pedi service she said no. So the next day I called in to speak with Irene (owner) the receptionist said she was not in. They have a price list, so price's should be clear not charging what they want. read more

Booked an double appointment for a hard gel set removal (meant to take 30 minutes) and a polish change (meant to take 15 minutes). Technician soaked my nails, then proceeded to cut and scrape my extensions off. She then took a nail buffer and proceeded to buff my nails in order to remove the remaining extensions. Not only did she remove the extensions but she thinned my nails down so much that they became paper thin. My nails had scratches all over them and were not smooth at all due to her hard buffing. Process was painful to say the least. Asked her why my nails had scratches on them, and she said that it was because she had to "scrape the extensions off". However, she was buffing from side to side (direction in which the scratches were) and scraping from nail top to base. Scratches could only be from buffing. She also mentioned that this was due to the fact that hard gel is so difficult to remove this damage is unavoidable. I have never personally experienced removal this bad. The set removal, which was supposed to take 30 minutes, took 45. Even then, technician was rushing and was not being gentle or cognizant of the fact that she was buffing my nails so thin. Felt like she just wanted to complete the appointment in the allotted time in order to tend to the next customer. Colour change was skipped entirely. A week later and my nails are still so weak, they haven't grown in length at all because they keep breaking since they're so thin. My nails have never hurt as much as they have after this appointment. Will never return to this location. read more

The girl who did my extensions, Amy, did such a bad job! She pushed my cuticles so violently without letting them soak in warm water to soften them up. My cuticles were so irritated and bled during and after my session. The gel was also very uneven, which I noticed after I got home. Would not recommend Amy to do nails she was very very rough and not detail oriented at all. I have gotten manis and pedis there however and the other girls do a good job. Just not Amy. read more

Worst customer service and worst experience, in august I decided to get my eyebrows waxed at the pure nail bar location on Kerr and 54th avenue east, she left the wax for too long and burned the skin on my eyebrows, I came in the next day and showed her and she didn't even offer me a refund or anything, I had to put aloe vera on my eyebrows for a full week, and not only that I also got a shellac French mani and pedi, they didn't even massage my feet, and the nail polish started chipping within the first week, it's way too over priced and the way they run their buisness is sh** worst experience and worst customer service definitely will not go back read more

After reading the other poor revues it seems I am not the only one that had a poor experience here. I came in for a mani-pedi and even though I had an appointment, the service started about 20 minutes late. A girl came up with a basin to start my pedi and managed to splash me not once but twice, soaking the skirt I was wearing. After a soak she took one look at my feet and commented that they 'needed a lot of work' which was not only completely unnecessary but also untrue - I'd actually had a pedicure 2 weeks previous but was going away and new the polish wouldn't last through my trip. I just don't see the need to make comments like that? Around this time the girl who came to do my mani showed up and I found the whole process very disruptive and uncomfortable - they had to keep switching spots, stopping treatment then resuming again. The girl doing my feet kept lifting my leg to a really uncomfortable height (instead of lowering her chair) which made my entire leg muscle strain and she kept barking at me to 'relax!" as if I could. The girl doing my nails did a decent job but she seemed rushed. In the end the pedi girl slapped some flip flops on me and completely smudged my big toe (as in there was a bald spot!) and then stated they didn't have time to fix as it was so busy and my feet 'already needed extra work'! Again, what the heck!? I definitely won't be going back, it certainly seems like some retraining is needed. read more

This location isn't the greatest. I've been to the Champlain heights one which is literally a world better. I randomly decided to come to the Marine location for a pedicure and god I wish I walked out as soon as I stepped in. It's not comfortable at all. The way they do their pedicures it's not relaxing. The chair you're sitting on you're constantly sliding down, they use a metal buckets, and the thing they use to rest your feet is also consistently sliding. Basically I was always having to move and reposition myself a lot. My other issue was the girl doing my toes was extremely slow... it took her more than 15 mins just to file off my old shellac... and when she was cutting my cuticles she genuinely didn't look like she knew what she was doing. Overall she didn't appear confident and I felt like I was getting a pedicure done at home (not in a good way) I was uncomfortable the whole time. For the price you're paying go somewhere that makes your $55+ worth it. Not coming back to this location. read more

I always book the same indian lady for Brazilian wax. I usually book her online because you get a deal if you book online. I booked her for brazilian wax for $35 online and she did an amazing job as always. I was happy till I see my bill. She started telling me that she will charge $45 instead of $35. I got confused. Then she said "Okay I will give you a discount $5 off. It will be $40." I still couldn't understand. Her excuse was she had to do "a full waxing" which is $45 on their menu. The owner told me that she did trim first which turned out "a full brazilian wax". I didn't even know that there are 2 options full brazilian wax or regular brazilian wax. When I booked her online as always, the website didn't say anything about that. (like if you have more hair, they will charge more) My understanding is that brazilian wax is brazilian wax. The price should be the same it doesn't matter if you have less or more hair. The weird thing is she always does the same job for me (she trims first) and they have never charged me more than what I booked for. I always pay $35 plus tips. Why she wants to charge me more today, I don't know!! So be careful when you book online. You might get a surprise bill after all! I am glad that I didn't go to her house for waxing. She gave me her cell number. She could have charged me a lot more! A few days after, I have received a text message from them saying that the indian lady tried to charge me $45 just because she just didn't like the price I booked for! That made me more mad! I had the worst gel polish application I've ever had at the Marine Gateway. My normal salon was fully booked so I decided to try this location out, and I truly regret not waiting for my normal place. First of all, this salon has nowhere to put your coat or purse while your service is getting done, and I had to put all of my things on the floor behind the chair - don't bring an expensive bag or coat with you to this salon unless you're okay with them spending time on the floor. I had gel polish already on my toe nails - I told the tech before we started that the top coat on my toes does NOT soak off and would have to be buffed off before she could apply acetone to soak off the polish underneath. Unfortunately she didn't listen to me and she barely buffed the nails before applying acetone and slapping some foil on my nails. She then left to attend to another client who walked in and asked for a polish removal, and then didn't return for 20 minutes. After she finished with the other client she realized that the polish didn't soak off, and instead she started to file away the polish already on my nails - cutting me in the process. It took her nearly 50 minutes to remove the polish on my nails. Because of this the rest of the service was incredibly rushed. I ended up with toes that are not shaped properly, my big toe nail is visibly crooked, none of the nail lengths match each other, the gel polish is streaky and bubbling because only 2 coats were used and the application was rushed. I cannot believe Pure has the audacity to charge $45 for this level of service. I wish i could give this place negative stars, because that's how many it deserves. There's far better places in the city to get your nails done at this (incredibly overpriced) price point. I regret that I paid for the service, as I highly doubt I can get a refund for such a subpar experience. edit: After this review was posted the owner of the chain got in touch with me to apologize & offer me a full refund. When the girl did my pedi she tossed the tool for removing callouses on the floor, skin and all and when I pointed out that she had missed some obvious calloused she went to use the tool that was on the floor! I stopped her and asked to get a new tool and she said "It's ok I wash your feet after". I disagreed so she reluctantly got a clean tool from the back. Rude Service: Very abrupt, no conversation, very short with answers. Poor service: I asked for shellac removal and had it done while getting a pedi. The removal was incomplete (I shouldn't have paid for it) and my nails were shaped poorly and much shorter than I wanted. I had to remove the remaining Polish myself upon getting home. The pedi took 1 hour because my person left before putting the top coat and was HFaving a loud conversation in the back for 15 minutes until I called out"excuse me" . She came and applied topcoat then I had to wait another 15 mins for it you dry. Misrepresentation of prices: I went to pay and was charged 10.00 for polish removal instead of the 5.00 I was quoted when I had the shellac put on. Place was dirty. I WILL NOT BE BACK.
