It pains me to give a mediocre review for this spa, as the ladies who work here are very nice. But if truth be known, my husband and I each had mediocre massages here.
I won't ding this spa on the sterile, medical-esque, cold office space, as the ladies advised us that these digs are temporary. OK, then, I won't go into detail about the ambiance or our massage rooms. I'm sure the new location will be lovely.
That said, I will mention that, when I booked my husband's and my appointments two weeks in advance, I provided the lady on the phone with my name, phone number, and Groupon number. The day of the appointment, my hubby and I got there on time (2pm) to discover there was a fire alarm going off in the medical building: shrill alarms sounded, the lights were off, the elevator wasn't working, people were congregating in the lobby. (We were told the alarm tripped. There was no fire). Hubby and I walked up the stairs to the third floor's darkened hallway. The spa's office lights were on and the staff were there. When we got in, the ladies said they tried to call me to tell me not to come today due to the fire alarm, but they had the wrong phone number for me. (I don't know how this is possible, as I repeated my number twice when I booked the appointment). So hubby and I re-booked and went home. This of course totally messed up our whole day.
Note: I truly think most reputable businesses would have tried in some way to make this kind of thing up to a client they inconvenienced like this, due to their error (i.e., offer a free or discounted future massage, throw in some swag, something. This really messed up our whole day!)
When we returned a few days later for our massages, hubby and I were put in separate rooms. My masseuse was very nice but it was odd that she wore gloves when massaging me. I've never had a massage where this was done, ever! (Hubby later told me that his masseuse also wore gloves and he, too, thought this was so strange. It really diminished the whole experience). When I asked my masseuse about this, she removed her gloves. (My hubby didn't mention this to his massage lady, so she never took off the gloves. He also noted that the lady totally missed massaging large swaths of his legs. Weird). My lady at least got all the areas that a full-body massage entails.
One thing: I specifically chose this Groupon because of the hot stones. Hubby and I had never had a hot stone massage and I've always wanted to try it. I LOVE heat (I'm cold all the time) and I've heard such good things about this type of massage. Well, I'll pass next time. It wasn't anything special. My masseuse put hot stones aligned on my spine and left them there. They weren't moved around or rubbed to loosen the knots in my upper back or anything. Just left there. (Hubby was underwhelmed by his "stone experience" as well. Perhaps it's all just hype. I don't know). All I know is, when I left here, I didn't feel any more relaxed or less tense than I did when I went in.
Anyhow, the ladies here were friendly, and I'm sure their new location will be more "spa-like". And as I recall, they offer other services (manicures, facials, waxing, electrolysis, pedicures, make-up); perhaps they excel at these offerings. But when it comes to massages, no, I can't say I'd return here. read more
