Pure Joy Day Spa - Entrance, award winning spot! - Day Spas Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Pure Joy Day Spa is a tranquil oasis in the middle of the city. I stopped by during my lunch hour to get a eyebrow wax. My office is in downtown Honolulu, so it was a quick thirteen minute walk from my office to the spa. I was greeted by receptionist Malia and brow esthetician Maria, who directed me to the bathroom before starting the wax. The bathroom is clean with both paper towels and cloth towels. The room where the waxing took place was clean, calming, and fragrant. The bed was comfortable and the room temperature was just right so that I felt neither hot or cold. Maria took her time doing my wax, which I greatly appreciated. I told her that I do not like very thin brows, so she penciled the areas where she would take off and got my approval before beginning. Her work was excellent and the best eyebrow wax I've received so far in Hawaii. She kept my eyebrows thick but clean and shapely. Several days later my eyebrows still look great. After the wax, I was told to take my time before going out to the reception area where I was greeted with a soothing cup of peach green tea and a biscuit. This tea tastes amazing and the spa sells this product as well. It is called Pure Invention Peach Green Tea Antioxidant Extract. Because of the convenient location close to my home and office, the wonderful atmosphere, and excellent service, I plan to return to Pure Joy Day Spa for my eyebrow waxing as well as other services the spa offers, which include body treatments, massage, and facials. The prices are comparable to other spas in Honolulu, but the professionalism and ambiance will make you want to return. I'm looking forward to my next appointment. read more

I've been to Pure Joy Day Spa for services twice now. Both times have been a nice, relaxing experience. The beautiful ladies in the front who answer the phone and hang around in the waiting area to greet customers and check in appointments are very knowledgeable about the products, extremely pleasant and cheery. The spa has inviting décor (always going all out for the holidays) and provide multiple rooms to accommodate the long list of services offered. I was lucky enough to schedule with Sara for both a chair massage and a facial. She is very attentive and willing to accommodate (my lashes)! Being that my office is so close, convenience is definitely not an excuse. I would love to schedule for routine pampering a few times a year! FYI: There are a few stalls in front of the spa on King Street. Turn in right after the Hawaii Central credit union and before Cooke Street. read more

Pure Joy Day Spa - BEST SPA 10 years in a row! - Day Spas Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

The ladies are really nice and the place is beautiful and clean. However I just don't think the price point is justified. I'd suggest someone standardizes how they do treatments are done to give stronger massagers, more impactful extractions, and over all a more professional massage for the price this is charging. For a $150 / $180 / $ 200+ facial you should be getting a lot of good deep work done and really feeling it. I've been twice with two different ladies and I would value the hydrafacial at $80-$100 an hour. Even if the creams and what not are good, you need to raise the staff to a new standard or lower the prices read more

I've been coming here for the two years now (mainly for facials) and the service has always been superb. The facility is always clean and the staff is very professional. I highly recommend their Pure Glow or Oxygen facials. The esthetician keeps me well informed on how to continue to take care of my skin after the treatments which is always a plus to maintain the same look & feel I have when I'm leaving. They book up quickly (not sure how much has changed since covid) so be sure to call in advanced to schedule appointments! read more

This is my go to for my facial... they haven't disappointed me yet. I usually get the oxy-facial which is their most popular one but the simple European facial is also really good. I love the head shoulder and hand massage that comes with my facial. I brought my mom here for a massage and she loved it. I don't know the name of the person that massaged her but she raved about it. I also got a massage here but I didn't have the person that my mom had... and it was just ok for me. Overall, they have a great service, very pleasant to talk to .. I changed my appointments multiple times and they were very patient with me. read more

This place is still my number one place to get facials. I recommend all you ladies and gents to get the oxygen facial! You'll be amazed! It will brighten up your skin and give you that glow. Paula, my beauty fairy and aesthetician is very knowledgeable and made me feel so relaxed. I can't wait to try their other services! read more

I finally came here after hanging onto a gift card for many months! I booked a facial on the whim and they were able to accomodate me within the same week. My facial was with Paula, who was amazingly awesome. I really enjoyed everything she did and it was very relaxing! The spa is clean with about 3-4 rooms. They offer a variety of things and I think next time I will go for a massage! There is plenty of parking with them validating in the upstairs parking lot as well. It was definitely a great experience! read more

Recently had a Pure Glow Facial and Lomi Lomi Massage with Sarah. I evaluate facials and massages by what I call the "goosebump factor." Lots of goosebumps! Sarah's facial technique is extremely gentle yet effective and she applies the right pressure during the neck and shoulder massage. My skin looked really good afterward! She gave a terrific massage and you could sense her intent to make you feel better. Calm energy, great technique, and good intentions are huge factors for me when finding a good massage therapist. I'm definitely becoming a regular here. read more

I've got yelp to thank for guiding me towards this beautiful spa! For my boyfriends birthday I gifted him a Lomi Lomi massage here at Pure Joy Spa. He's praising his masseuse Sharon for giving him the best massage he's ever received ! He was blown away by her technique, and so pleased with the results. I was blown away by how his once rock hard back with tense muscles is now soothed. I'm really appreciative of the services and thankful he had a great birthday. I am planning on coming back soon to schedule a facial for myself! Thanks to the wonderful (and drop dead gorgeous) desk girl for keeping me company with great conversation and making me exited to come back soon. (I think her name is Tanya). read more

OMG!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place!! So, lucky me -- I got a gift certificate for a Classic European Facial which I used on my birthday. Total relaxation, pampering and service to ring in a new year. So as you walk in, you're greeted by friendly staff who make sure you're well taken care of as soon as you arrive. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, while also giving you a feeling that seeing a specialist or doctor (but in a totally cool way). I got comfortable and was quickly in a state of bliss as my esthetician Paula got to work. She was super friendly, which put me at ease -- her touch was light and calming for the most part; being very gentle with my face....even during the extractions. But then when it came to the massage portion -- oh, la, lah!! She worked those knots in my shoulders like a champ! The products all smelled heavenly, cleaned, soothed and got me feeling young (at least in my mind!). And I loved the mini massage on my hands, on of my favorites! We chatted for a bit, but as I got more relaxed things got quiet, which was perfect. I really think Paula was following my lead -- we were laughing and enjoying our time, but as soon as I started to doze off, she was quiet too. When you're done - tea is waiting for you as you check out. Everything went so smoothly, as the whole team is on their game with customer service amped up to high! I definitely can't wait to come back soon!! read more

Got a deep tissue massage as a bday present from my H. Rowena was my masseuse and she was very good, she got strength. I told her the areas that I needed work on and she really focuses on those areas. You know you got a good massage when you can feel muscle pain the next day. :) The place is small with like 4 rooms, but clean. Prices are reasonable. However, if you want to really experience a spa day, this would not be the place to go since there's no sauna and shower and etc. read more

This is the best treat you can give to someone! Especially during these stressful times, giving the gift of relaxation is a perfect way to show you care. They will have a world class treatment without traveling to an exotic location and come out with baby soft skin and all their stress melted away. Massages have been my new go-to service for some R&R. This time, I was lucky enough to book a 1.5 hour massage on my birthday with Jessica and she was amazing! I asked her to work on my neck and shoulders and she did exactly that. She paid extra attention to the knots in my shoulders and helped release what she could in the time we had. We had great conversation about our upcoming weddings and other things which was nice and not awkward. I've been a client at Pure Joy Day Spa for a little over three years. I treat myself to a massage there once or twice a year. I think the prices are affordable for a day spa (compared to hotel day spas). Services book up fast so I recommend calling at least two weeks ahead to book an appointment. read more

I love getting facials here! It's a very clean, professional and friendly experience! My face feels amazing afterward - I love extractions!! I also just got a deep tissue massage from Jessica and that was AMAZING!! She really gets in there, and my body feels so much better :). read more

Every time I enter Pure Joy Day Spa, I feel like I'm walking through the pearly gates of Heaven! I am always immediately greeted by lovely Angels whose warm and genuine smiles can brighten any day. This past visit was no exception; I requested Sarah for my appointment and she did not disappoint. I've had the pleasure of being pampered by Sarah several times. Her kind and sweet soul is one you can never forget. She is very knowledgeable about her work and provides the BEST facials in town! She knows exactly what my skin needs and craves and complements my skin care with the perfect massage pressure, sometimes causing me to snooze for a bit. LOL. Additionally, Sarah follows each session with a breakdown of the tools and types of products she used and gives great recommendations on other products that can improve my skin. I always leave feeling like a million bucks. Thank you for spoiling me, Sarah and Pure Joy Angels! read more

5 star service!!!! This was my first time getting a facial so I was a little nervous but my esthetician Sarah did an amazing job explaining each step of the process. I got the Pure White Lightning Facial and I'm in love with the results! I came here for a Brazilian and a brow wax before my wedding as I was gifted a gift card for Pure Joy. There's a small lot in front with 3 stalls but you can turn onto Cooke street and park in the paid lot near Kats Sushi - Pure Joy will validate. I didn't know so found parking on King. Didn't matter much because I was in and out in about 35 minutes. The aesthetician was very friendly - I didn't get her name - but she was very courteous and polite, explained things as she went. You can't even tell you're right off busy King St! It smells divine inside and there's calming music playing. I definitely will be back. Prizing for Brazilian starts at 68 - pretty standard at nice places I've found. read more

Pure Joy Day Spa - I was wondering what smelled so good...it's chocolate wax! - Day Spas Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

After not having the luxury to pamper myself for years, I'm glad I came to Pure Joy Day Spa for rejuvenation. There were 3 parking stalls right in front of the spa, and additional (validated) parking in the building structure. My appointment was with Maria, and my experience from beginning to end was nothing short of amazing. I was immediately greeted upon entering, was offered some beverages, and immediately taken into a room to begin my facial. The last time I had a facial (at a different salon), she did extractions and I remember them being so painful that I told myself I'd never get them done again. Today, Maria did extractions and they were not painful at all! Maybe a little discomfort, but nothing to complain about. The facility itself was very clean and welcoming, the staff provided excellent customer service, and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely a place to come to refresh yourself! read more

Pure Joy is ABSOLUTELY heavenly...bliss, bliss, bliss!! Joy's facials are AMAZING. I always end up falling asleep and end up waking myself up with a loud snore...it's snoringly delicious! I find it so hard to relax with my busy schedule, even when trying to get a good night's rest. Too many things on my mind. "Me" time happens when I go to get a facial at Pure Joy. I've been to a million and one different places for facials...you MUST visit Joy or any one of her aestheticians. It's THAT GOOD! Facials are about 90 minutes and what seems to be a 20 or so step process. Your face glows radiantly when you're done....magical! I've always wanted to try a massage and was finally able to get a 1-1/2 hour massage from Maria last week. It was faaantastic! Again, I fell asleep and woke myself up several times hearing myself snore...so embarassing, but it's ok. It's your time to get comfy, relax and just enjoy.... read more

Never say never... After my experience back in March, Joy, the owner, attempted a few times to follow up with me. The first time offering a gift card for a massage or facial. Though the gesture was kind, I wasn't interested. The second time letting me know that she didn't take the review lightly and revamped some of the products, retrained the staff etc and inviting me back to give them another try. While I was still hesitant, how often is it that businesses genuinely care about your experience and make such an effort to let you know your concerns were not only heard but acted on? Don't know about you, but I don't come across that very often so I felt compelled to go back. Made a last minute appointment for a Pure Glow Facial. Leslie was extremely nice and helpful with booking the service. I went back today for, yes, a facial. :) Mainly because it would defeat the purpose to go in for a massage...I'd have nothing to compare the last experience to. But I still got a good massage anyway... Maria was wonderful. Her hands are AMAZING!! She made sure it was the right pressure. The massage while the mask set left me remarkably relaxed. I digress... The FACIAL-- the ambience from when you walk into the room is calming with soothing sounds playing in the background. The layering on the bed with a beautiful quilt keeps you comfortable in the cool room, with a tube style robe to add a bit more warmth. Maria was personable and attentive. She looked over my skin concerns, offering helpful tips along the way and making recommendations. The products used had a nice citrus scent! Loved it! The Pure Glow Facial used a light peel that left my skin looking and feeling brighter, smoother, and clean. The couple of blemishes on my cheeks I went in with were already looking so much better. 90 minutes of top notch skin therapy! Joy & her staff are doing an excellent job and I'd love to visit again hoping that today's experience is a constant. It's always awesome to support local businesses, especially when they care about their customers...AND getting great service to boot! read more

My husband bought me a gift card from this place for Christmas. It was for a 90 min facial and a 90 min massage. I looked over the menu and did some tweeking to the services I wanted to get, and they were super accommodating to that & I appreciate they did that because I would have been annoyed if he had paid all that money and I didn't get what I want. ;-) I had issues finding the place, it's not well marked and the parking lot fits about 2.5 Smart cars. Oh well, I found it, and I walked in and was greeted by the lovely receptionist. She offered me a glass of water or tea, gave me a short questionnaire to fill out, and then I waited for about 4 min before Pumy came to get me for my facial. I told her that I wanted to do the 90 min Polishing facial instead of the Classic European. She agreed that it was a better idea and she was excited to do it because she likes the peel. I remember laying down on the table, which was warmed!!, and looked at the clock, it said 11:04. Pumy quickly got to work and made me super comfortable. We started chatting and before I knew it, she said she was done. I looked at the clock, 12:45. HOW DID TIME FLY BY SO FAST?!?! Well, it's cause she was that much fun to talk to. If you come here, please have Pumy do your facial. She's hilarious and does an amazing, amazing job. My skin looked SO good when she was done I didn't even wear make up to the event I went to later that afternoon. Next I had Gloriana do my 90 min deep tissue massage. If you are looking for an ACTUAL deep tissue massage, one that will make you realize you have sore spots you didn't know existed and leaving you hurting so good, Gloriana is a great therapist to see. She immediately found my trouble spots and dug right on. I even had to said "ouchie!" a few times cause she was getting IN there. When the 90 mins was up I sat up and felt like I'd drank several strong adult libations and had to even take a moment to not feel like I was spinning. Today I woke up sore as shit, and yet I feel fabulous! I'll probably come back here in the future. I recommend this place if you're looking for great service and professional employees who know what they are doing. read more

Joy is a perfect name for this owner because she is a joy to work with. After my previous post, she contacted me to get more information about my experience. After some research, she found that my specialist at the time was soon let go because she didn't meet the expectations for an employee. The proper way to handle someone with eczema, as I found out when I tried them out again, was to provide a patch test before your treatment. I tried their regular cream and a vegan cream. Their vegan cream surprisingly reacted while their regular cream was just fine. I called them to let them know the reuslts of the test. This time around they paired me with their specialist who also suffers from eczema. I thought this was a great decision as she understood how I felt and could knowledgably recommend certain follow up actions, including an immediate shower. This 90 min massage was spot on. She listened to my problem areas and my requested pressure. Any problems I had with the massage were easily fixed by just asking. Everyone here was really friendly, and my specialist even remembered she worked with my mom! I'm glad I gave them a second chance, and they were able to recognize an issue before anyone here even mentioned it. read more

The name made me a bit skeptical thinking it is just a comfort massage. It turned out to be a great massage place which supplement or should I say completes my physical therapy session. I've been coming here for a few yrs. now (for massages & facials) and usually leave 100% satisfied but I can't say the same about my recent Facial appt. on 4/26/14 :( Although the Esthetician was really nice and even accommodating (I was 10min. late due to road work) aside from her nice massage skills it was the WORST facial I ever recieved as far as 'cleaning.' I even pointed out that my pores were "clogged" but still she did NOT extract them at all. She went through the "motions" but I could tell she wasn't really extracting (I've had them done numerous times before) #1 it didn't even hurt (and if you've had them done right before you know there's some sensation fr. the squeezing) and #2 my pores are EXACTLY the way I came in with...CLOGGED!!! Im also in the service industry so my time & money is very important to me. I spent a total of $110 (incl. tip since I felt bad cause she was so nice & accommodating) but left super DISSAPOINTED! Not sure now if I would ever go back?! And I'll need to dish out even more $ to get my skin properly "cleaned." read more

As a New Year's treat for myself, I made an appointment here for my first facial and it was a very relaxing experience. First of all, service is great. They try to work around our schedule with theirs and they give you call to remind you of the appointment. Not only that, the day of the appointment, they had a power outage and called me immediately to notify of the outage and would call back as soon as the power came back on (which it did!). They offer you drinks and make you feel as comfortable as possible before taking you into the room. The ambience and atmosphere is very relaxing and soothing inside so I was practically falling asleep during my facial. After the 90-minute session, they gave me samples to help maintain a clean face and I am definitely going back for another session! read more

I really enjoy coming here because they really pamper you. All around great spa experience, despite the busy King St. location so don't be put off by it! Prior to moving away from Honolulu, I had come here for my facials so it was a no brainer that I eventually made it back here. I obviously hadn't been here for a while so I forgot how great the experience is. From the beginning to the end they really do a great job of making you relaxed; starting out with a cup of warm tea and biscuit. The tea they serve is delicious and lightly sweetened, perfect and warm to soothe your body before you begin your facial. Now the facial itself, omg I left with my skin glowing! My esthetician, pumehana had me so relaxed afterwards. I really like how at PJDS, they include massage portion in your facial as well, seriously, LOVE. What's more I was recommended some good products that has really made a difference on my skin. Definitely a must try if you are skeptical or are looking to take care of yourself more. A facial at Pure Joy is my once a month splurge that I will without a doubt continue! read more

I booked an appointment with Pure Joy for a pre traveling treat. The parking is off of Cooke street between Kapiolani and King. From Kapiolani, its the first left hand turn up a VERY STEEP ramp. An attendant will give you a ticket. The spa itself is through the building that you parked in and down the stairs to your left. Tucked away in the corner. Arrived on that Monday morning and was greeted and asked to take a seat in their cozy reception. Reagan? was my masseuse for a 60 min deep tissue massage. She greeted me and took me into the room. Small, accommodating just enough for one bed with room around for the masseuse. We discussed what I needed to work on (my pecs, shoulders and neck). Boy did she work on those knots!!! At one point I had to stop and ask for a tissue since my nose was running so bad from all the massaging. Afterwards, Reagan took the time to tell me what she had felt and how she was trying to work out the knots. She said she'd love to see me again in 2 weeks to continue working on my pec knots since those are hard to massage out in one session. Afterwards, was given some tea and a cookie and leisurely left to relax back in the reception area. They validate parking! My shoulders, neck and pecs have never felt so good. I'm ready to go back! read more

I totally believe in massages. They make everything better. Rowena is one of the two best masseuses I have ever been to. The other one is in New Jersey. I usually go a long time in between appointments, so when I do finally get to see Rowena, she needs to dig deep in order to get the knots out. It hurts so good. I always feel like jello after I leave, and it's the best feeling ever. The rest of the staff is very nice as well. read more

Came here for the first time with my sister and uncle...we all had a classic European Facial! I can't speak for them but I have to rave about Joy the owner of the spa who gave me the best facial I've ever had. She was so gentle and I was so relaxed I even fell asleep here and there. One thing I really like was that usually I cringe at the thought of having to go through the painful extractions...but not with her..it was painless and after 90 minutes of steaming...washing..massaging...my skin looked amazing. I would definetley recommend this place for a facial and will be back in May during my next trip to Hawaii! Thanks Joy you're the best! read more

Very Nice Massage in a very relaxing environment. Highly recommended. Everything was very professional and we will be back.

I love this place! I recommend you book an appointment when coming to this place because they are quite popular. However, give them a call if you feel like you want some pamper time and they will try their best to fit you in their schedule. I wanted a last minute eyebrow wax and I called them. They said that they couldn't do it because they were full but said that they will put me on a wait list if anyone cancelled. It was my lucky day and I was able to get an appointment with Maria. Maria was so awesome and I recommend people to go and see her. She was very professional, informative and very precise. My eyebrows were a hot mess but after Maria's magic, they were looking fly! ;) I've had facials from this place as well and it was heavenly. I highly recommend this place for any spa needs. read more
