Discovered a free introductory class through Instagram and they are up the street from our house! While nervous at first, stepping in was immediately an atmosphere of community and warmth. We were instructed by Carly and she was very welcoming and enthusiastic to have new attendees. She seems very passionate about this. For the workout itself, it was extremely invigorating and while difficult, it was nice to be pushing my body in a way that I never have before. I admire those who attend regularly. During the session, Carly was complimentary to each of the attendees, which was motivating. Highly recommend, but know you're in for something physically demanding! I am new to Pure Barre so my review is really for people like me. 1) Get the Pure Barre app to book a class. You can cancel up to 4 hours before the class. Once you pass this window, text Matt or Whitni (PV owners) because corporate (not franchise) will auto charge a cancellation fee. 2) Start with Classic to learn the movements. My favorite teachers at PV are Maria and Hillary. I've had more classes with Maria and she's always very friendly and kind. 3) Leave home early - especially if you have to come up Shea (construction) - to find good parking and a spot on the barre. If you forget your grippy socks or water, it's at the boutique. 3) Weekdays AM: Take Classic earlier or later than 9 AM. The 9 AM class is full so a rude person (walks in late, moves into your spot, practically kicks you, leaves early during the cool down type) is very disruptive. Learning is stressful enough! 4) Weekdays PM: I like the late AM or noon classes because they're smaller so you get to know the instructor or your classmates better. Don't know about classes 5 PM or later (sorry). 5) Weekends: Same issues as Classics weekday 9 AM. 6) Reform (Pilates straps) is great! Like Maria, Shannon also has a warm, engaging personality and is very helpful with newbies who want to learn the movements. 7) Align (stretching) with Stephanie is great. I have not tried Foundations yet but I've heard it's good for beginners. 8) Empower (cardio) is fast so if you don't know the movements it can feel like, lol, Brownian motion. Therefore, don't make this your first class as a newbie! Jasmine is best for seasoned players. 9) If I could make a recommendation, it would be to offer modifications for those with weak core muscles so they don't hurt their backs. When I was a member at Core Power Yoga in Del Mar, they gave modifications (like ball under stomach for plank, ball behind back for crunches, sponge brick under hand to align to warrior pose, etc.) to help those with imperfect strength or extension reach perfect position. 10) Be grateful you have this time to take care of your body & Always have fun learning something new. I've been going to this studio for a few months now and I love it. I was at aerial yoga at Air Phoenix, which I also love, but the studio owner is a horrible, power hungry woman and has banned me from certain instructors classes, so I left there. I can't NOT work out, and I've done barre in the past, and it has proved very effective. When I walked into my first classes there, the instructors were all very friendly, asked (and remembered) my name, they helped me get all set up and they even adjusted me during class if I wasn't doing the moves correctly. I felt very welcomed. The studio owner, Whitni is so sweet. Everyone there is. I highly recommend this studio. Whether you've done barre for years, or want to start, I would come to this one. I was doing HIIT workouts prior and was extremely humbled by Pure Barre. You're definitely going to feel the burn here! The moves are simple and effective but the form can be tricky. Luckily the instructors are hands throughout the class to correct improper form. I noticed minor results only after a few classes. It is a learning experience though. It takes time to learn all the moves and I just wasn't up to the challenge at the moment for personal reasons. I do highly recommend this location as the owners are wonderful. I went to a previous barre studio for 5 years and it shut down out of nowhere. AFter my first world mourning period, I began hunting down a new studio. Holy crap are there some awful studios here in town. Most aren't even actual BARRE. It was exhausting. I took advantage of a free class here, and then a 2 week intro. They also offer a one month unlimited special as well. Like most barre studios, it'll cost you; but this is an effective workout. The traditional barre class is challenging, and then I did Empower. Um, sooooo hard. Think barre with intense cardio. They offer a great range of classes at differing times. My typical instructors are Abby and Jasmine and they are GREAT. Both have excellent energy, they correct you when you get sloppy and need it, push those heels up if you are slacking; which sometimes we all need. Change is hard, but I'm loving this studio. I have been to other Barre fitness classes (Karve, Dailey Method) and I absolutely love all of them... but there is something extra special about Pure Barre. I like the studio. I like the instructors. I like the equipment. I like the music. I like the great class times (morning, afternoon, and two evening classes plus weekends). I like the flexible packages. I'm doing the 1 month intro special - unlimited for $100. I LOVE that the instructors make it a point to learn your name, and to compliment you during the class. It helps encourage you to push harder. The one-on-one attention they give to make sure you are getting the most out of your workout is amazing. On my way to my first Pure Barre class, I was talking about how I have yet to find a gym or exercise program that I actually enjoyed, therefore I never stick with it. After one class, my workout prayers had been answered! Pure Barre is nitty gritty kick your butt for an hour, but leave feeling oh so good. The exercises target specific muscle groups and work them until you are shaking and think you just can't give anymore, but the amazing instructors time their motivation perfectly and make you push just a little bit harder. Each class I feel like I am able to get the technique down better and better and am able to get more out of the hour. After three or four classes I was feeling more flexible, toned and motivated. They say results show after just ten classes, but after going about 5 or 6 times I am already seeing the huge benefits. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to really get their body in shape, but be prepared to push yourself, give it your all and feel the burn because this program certainly isn't for the faint of heart! read more

I wish I still lived in Scottsdale... only when I think about pure barre. I love the classes here and I really loved all the instructors. Women come here to work out. This isn't a social class where you can chat a little bit when there's down time to grab weights or mats etc. My boyfriend saw visible differences after I went three times (which is ridiculous, I know!) I have also never sweated so much from an indoor workout until I took pure barre classes. Literally, sweat pouring down my face (sorry for the visual) and sore for days after just one class. I'm actually signing up for a class in LA. It's pricy but worth it. They've got classes from 6am - 7pm. Tip: get the pure barre socks. They prevent you from slipping around and accidentally falling into a split that your legs and groin really can't handle. Trust me. This advice comes from experience. Tip 2: 70% of the women who attend these are super athletic, fit, probably used to be dancers or gymnasts. Don't be embarrassed if you're new and not as fit. If you are like me and you are reading these reviews to debate trying a Pure Barre Class, then stop reading and just GO. I had heard about these 'Bar Classes' and did some research on line and here on Yelp to learn more. I read all good things, so finally checked it out. This is the first workout that I have done that I have seen real results. Seriously!!! My arms, shoulders, back are more tone and my legs and butt are almost back to where they should be. Although my flexibility has a way to go, I am so much more flexible now. I started noticing a difference within a few weeks. I think my husband is tired of me pointing out my new abs and toned legs, but I am just so excited to find a great workout that I really love. The location and class schedule is perfect. Marirose and Veronica are so welcoming and really make you feel comfortable. When I first started others would say to me "oh you are going to love it" and now I say the same to others..."you will love it, promise". Check it out. read more

I generally avoid group exercise classes because I have so many joint issues (knee, hips, neck, shoulder) that need accommodating. Pure Barre, however, is the exception to the rule. Despite working out most days of the week for many years (cardio machines, weights, pilates, hiking, even the P90X DVD series), I never experienced such noticeable results until I started going to Pure Barre 4-5x/week. Pure Barre is completely low-impact, and you are only moving in increments of an inch or two. But your legs will shake and the sweat will drip down your back. For the first time in my life, I can see the muscle definition in my abs. My quads have become lean and defined, and my butt has become a lot firmer. I recommend that newbies sign up for the 1 month intro special ($100 for unlimited visits) and then go as often as possible, because it does take some time to learn how to do the moves correctly and this is a FAST-paced class. I've never found myself staring at the clock and wishing the class would be over because the positions and exercises change so quickly. The music is loud and fun and carefully chosen work with the moves. The instructors shout out encouraging comments when you are doing something right (how they remember everyone's name is beyond me!) and quietly come over to you and correct your form when necessary. They will also show you how to accommodate any injuries you might have. In one hour, I achieve a complete workout. And I always leave with a smile on my face. I am completely addicted. The only thing I wish they would do differently is add more classes on the weekends. Those classes are always PACKED, and if you don't sign up early enough during the week, you will find yourself on the wait-list! read more

So I bought a LivingSocial to this place because I've always heard people saying how amazing it is. The deal was for two weeks unlimited and I went to 8 classes in those two weeks and I can say I definitely noticed a difference. I love this place. Let's be honest here, I HATE working out. But I actually enjoy these classes. They go by quickly and the music is great. The classes in the evenings are usually pretty full and you have to register in advance but the waitlist moves pretty quickly. My favorite instructors are Abby, Jasmine, and Shayla. I think I've only ever had two or three other instructors but I make it a point to choose these ladies because I feel like they're the best at helping with your form and motivating you to keep going when your thighs are shaking and you think you're gonna give up. This studio is connected with the Arcadia and Chandler locations too so if you purchase a membership, you can go to all three studios which is convenient if you have friends in other parts of the Valley. I did the new client month unlimited after my LivingSocial expired and I've done a total of 18 or so classes now and I can totes tell a difference. I've been super busy and haven't gone to class in a week and I feel like a slob. These classes are addicting. They're super pricey so get ready to shell out $23 for a drop in class or pony up $175 for the month unlimited. It's worth it. read more

Well the proof is in the pudding folks. By "pudding" of course I mean arms, abs and booty plus a whole lot of comments such as "so where did you get those pipes?" I have been to a few other barre studios with plenty of mixed feelings - some workouts too intense to focus on form, others not intense enough to feel like you're working. Pure Barre is the pefect balance between intensity and form and actually produces visible change in your body which is hard to argue with. After the first couple of classes, I really questioned whether I could keep up with this as a regular exercise habit. So much burning going on! It also took me a bit to get used to what we were actually supposed to be working in some parts of the class. But the instructors are awesome, give verbal cues of where you should feel your muscles working, and provide plenty of adjustments to help you get there. I love the upbeat music, it provides for good distraction when you're holding on for dear life during those last few pulses. I also like that there is periodic stretching between muscle groups, it's a good reset before you go into the next ass kicking. It'd an addicting routine, really. The price is certainly steeper than other alternatives out there, but considering how effective the workout is and how great the studio vibe is - to me, it's worth the cost if you want a seriously toned bod. Let's be real - you'll spend the same amount of money by the time you combine cheaper classes with supplement scams or a gym membership with a kale smoothie habit. Pure Barre Scottsdale has changed the way I work out. I've always thought if you want to look fit and lean you need to bust your butt in bootcamps, crossfits, or at a gym. That is SO not the case! Pure Barre has taught me that. After my first class I was completely hooked!!! Its fun, upbeat, and extremely challenging to the body. I have never seen results the way I see the results from my pure barre classes. My posture is better, abs are tighter, and FINALLY my legs are showing some definition! The instructors are so supportive as well. No intimidation factor. They want you to succeed and make sure you are using correct form and keep pace with the rest of the class. It offers a kick-ass (literally) workout with fun and genuine instructors and motivating music! I have so many wonderful things to say about not only Pure Barre but this specific studio that I don't even know where to start. Pure Barre is one of the best workouts I have ever done. It is a combination of yoga/ pilates & ballet. I went into this class thinking, "This will be easy. If I can run 6 miles I can do this class." WRONG. Amazingly I did walk out of there but I was just a tad sore to say the least. When you take a Pure Barre class you work muscles you didn't know existed. They say that after 10 classes you will notice a change in your body. I think that you could venture to say that after 5 classes you will notice a difference. When I say notice a difference I don't mean you're going to drop 10lbs in a week but you'll be so much stronger. You'll also be more toned than before. I have been taking classes 5 days a week for 2 months and have become so much stronger not only physically but mentally as well. During these classes you are pushed to your limits physically. Your muscles will shake/quiver and you are going to want to quit. Don't do it! You truly are so much stronger than you think you are and your mind will teach your body that in these classes. I would HIGHLY recommend Pure Barre to anyone that truly cares about their body. If you are sick of your old routine give it a try. Each instructor puts their own spin on the class they're teaching so no two are the same. Pure Barre is full of energy/ great music/ and wonderful classmates/ instructors! The instructors and owners love what they do! They want to see everyone succeed in lifting their seat off their thighs, toning their arms/ thighs and burning calories. I was visiting Scottsdale for the weekend but have attended many Pure Barre classes in Indiana previously. Many of my old sorority sisters take classes at the local Pure Barres in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area so I wanted to take class while I was in town. Located in a fitness focused strip mall, the space is very well decorated but I didn't prefer having to walk through the studio to get to the cubbies to place my purse down. My class was instructed by one of the owners who was very nice but I did not meet her until after class even though I was there fairly early. Maybe the Pure Barre in Carmel, IN is just a little different but they make an effort to meet any new comers so they can evaluate their level of understanding of the techniques. She did introduce herself to me after the class and was ver personable. Not as friendly as I would have hoped but a fine studio all the same. read more

Well, it's been one month to the day since I started at Pure Barre, and I feel confident in giving it an overwhelmingly positive recommendation. That being said, this review is closer to a 4.5 star review, solely because of the price (which I'll address in a minute). To sum up, Pure Barre is an incredibly effective, challenging, and fun workout with fabulous instructors and a great atmosphere, but, sadly, it's very expensive. The Workout: If you're currently out of shape and take a class, you will be sore for days after your first few workouts. If you're currently in shape and take a class, you will STILL be sore for days after your first few workouts. I'm talking full-body soreness, the kind that makes mere walking difficult...but in a good way. I've taken a variety of group classes, ranging from yoga to pole dancing to Zumba to pilates, and none of them compare to Pure Barre. Before I started Pure Barre, I had gone through an extended period where I was working out very minimally and had gained more weight than I was comfortable with. A month later, I'm already in much better shape, and I'm significantly more toned. It's an extremely difficult workout-your muscles will shake and quiver and you'll swear you're on the verge of fainting and/or dying, which might sound unpleasant, but it really isn't. It's a good burn, and you'll keep coming back for more. You'd never think that such tiny movements would fatigue your muscles so thoroughly, but they really do. I like that Pure Barre focuses on building long, lean muscles, and targets the typical "trouble areas" for women-thighs, butt ("seat"), abs, and arms. It's also very low-impact, so it's a good choice if you've had problems with injuries in the past. I personally have had foot and knee issues, and haven't experienced any problems doing Pure Barre. If you are currently recovering from an injury and are limited in what you can do, tell the instructor before class, and they'll give you modifications during potentially problematic exercises (I've seen a number of people do this, so don't be shy!). Classes range from about 10-20 people, almost all women. I love that the classes are smaller, because the instructors will come over and correct your form (form is critical for these types of exercises). The Instructors: Fabulous! Marirose and Erin are my favorites, and I also really like Abby and Jenny. Marirose will push you HARD, but in such a good way. Erin will also push you really hard, but she might be a little easier to keep up with if you're just starting-I had her for my second class, and she made things easier to follow than the instructor I had for my first class. Abby is also the officer manager, and is always extremely friendly, and has an uncanny ability to remember everyone's name. The Atmosphere: Great! Always manages to smell good, despite the many women sweating like crazy. The music is really good and matches the pace of the workouts well. They sell ridiculously cute clothing up front (mostly Lululemon, Beyond Yoga, and PB-branded stuff), buuuut there's absolutely nothing that I can afford. However, if you've got the budget, you can definitely pick up some workout swag here. Class Times/Availability: They have a good online signup system. YOU MUST SIGN UP IN ADVANCE! If you want to get in to weekend, early morning, or afternoon/evening classes, sign up at least a week in advance to ensure you get a spot. They have a good variety of times, and I LOVE that they're always asking clients on Facebook what new times they'd like to see-they've added several just in the month I've been there. The Price: Ahh...and therein lies the rub, so to speak. I adore Pure Barre, and absolutely want to keep coming back, but sadly, I'm currently unemployed, and the the normal monthly price of $175 is simply not doable for me at this time. I started with a two-week Living Social deal, and then bought the one month new client special ($100 unlimited). They do have other package deals, and drop-in classes are around $23. I will say that $175 is the same price as an unlimited month at Sumits Yoga, so it's not an unprecedented price-it's just not in my personal budget. I have two weeks left in my new client month, and I'll be extremely sad to say goodbye to Pure Barre. However, I've got my fingers crossed that I'll soon find a high-paying job that will allow me to continue LTBing (LTB="lift, tone, and burn") my heart out, because Pure Barre truly is far and away my favorite workout of all time. read more

This was the first in class workout I've ever tried and I fell in love. Pure Barre works you harder than anything else I've tried. My muscles are shaking every session (which is the point). I suggest everyone tries at least one class. You don't have to have any dance experience and you see results within 2-3 sessions. My butt is firmer and my arms are buffer. I could not have more love for PB. The concept is genius, and I love how it is geared towards women and the parts we want to tone: abs, butt, thighs, arms. The class is fast paced and the instructors are fantastic. I really like Jasmin at the Scottsdale location, she physically corrects form and explains technique well. Before I went to a PB class, I thought I was in good shape- I run half marathons, work out a few times a week- but it is a HARD workout. Like, HAAARRRDD. I never thought using such small movements and hardly any weight could tone and burn so much (and leave you so sore). It's expensive but definitely something that's a treat, try it out! read more

Having done Bar Method for two years and being new to the area, today I finally checked out Pure Barre. I was not disappointed. I've tried a couple of other bar-type classes in the area (the Ballet Barre class at Abby Bella Dance Studio and Karve) and neither could compare. Pure Barre's instructor was fun, friendly, pleasant, up-beat and the class itself was just as big a butt-kicker as Bar Method. The exercises and moves are very similar and target all the same areas. I just about passed out doing the thigh workout as I always have in BM and yes, that's a good thing. (You'd think a sane person would avoid a workout like this - Personally, I'm genuinely brought to the verge of passing out or vomiting. Pleasant, right? But I swear, NOTHING shapes your body faster than this workout!) The class was well-taught and I walked out of there knowing I'd found something great. Since I'd tried a couple of others, I wasn't convinced this would be comparable to my trustworthy BM but I now I'm a believer. : ) Pure Barre is the real deal...it's awesome. It was also pretty cool to learn a slight variation on the exercises. If you've never done any type of bar class, GO to PURE BARRE. I'm so happy you're here, Pure Barre. I'm a fan. Wow. In Scottsdale for the week and scouting out different barre classes. Become a devotee of barre after 9 marathons did their damage. Barre ended up replacing my physical therapy post various knee and hip surgeries. Any barre is great -- but Pure Barre is uber great. Why? Mindy taught the class -- full of positive mojo, extremely attentive to everyone's form, making adjustments (thank you!!) where we needed them, very clear directions, great cuing, motivating music. She made full use of weights, bands and balls -- using exercises that I've never seen before in a barre class. (I can barely move today from the lactic acid --a "hurt so good" feeling!) Some instructors aren't so willing to personally touch/adjust you -- or don't personally critique your form. Mindy did. In fact, I feel like she upped my game -- in just one class. Mindy stands by the weights at the end of class, making sure she meets everyone. Nice touch. An even nicer touch -- we all wiped down our mats and weights with anti-bacterial wipes at the end of class. Some of these studios and their equipment can get quite gross -- this was a nice little touch. Upon leaving, the desk staff couldn't have been nicer -- asking how I liked the class, how did it compare versus other barre classes, etc... They didn't slam the other studios I've patronaged -- adding to the great mojo of this place. Another nice touch about this place: during some of the more intense exercises, right when I felt like I couldn't last another second, a few women would yell out a "whoop." I know it sounds weird, but those whoops pulled me back to reality -- they made me feel like we were all in it together - and those whoops were responsible for me lasting another second or three. Thank you ladies. I needed that! If you have never done barre -- this is a great studio to try it out. But don't just go to one class. It will take you a few to feel like you are getting the form down. I hated my first 3 classes -- but my body was so sore -- that I knew it was working muscles I didn't know I had (and I am an athlete who was active in many sports -- before running destroyed my bones!) Barre classes -- anywhere -- aren't cheap. However, if you stay committed (3 times/week for a few months), you will see changes in your body that you just won't get with any other form of exercise. I'm a former marathon runner, spent a lifetime lifting in gyms, snowboarded down many a mountain, have my own pilates reformer machine, cycled competitively years ago, attempted yoga..... ) nothing compares to barre in terms of achieving a longer, leaner, more balanced and flexible body. I am too clumsy and uncoordinated to be a dancer -- but barre has made me feel like one -- and certainly look like one. No other exercise has done that. read more

I have done all types of classes from pilates to yoga to kickbox to spinning to lifting and have never felt my muscles tremble as much as they did in this class. After 5 classes I noticed a significat difference in my muscle tone. It is a great way to shake up your old routine and have fun while doing so. I haven't been to PB Scottsdale in about 9 months, however before that I went for about a year on and off. The reason for the review, I didn't realize how awful my experience was at PB Scottsdale until I went to 2 other Barre studios, one also being a Pure Barre. PB Scottsdale has a large following, however if you're not one of the regulars, you're made to feel like an outsider, by teachers and classmates alike: think high school/mean girls. After comparing my experiences, PB Scottsdale seems to take class so seriously, not uplifting and fun. Yeah, the music is upbeat and fun, but again if you're new or needing modifications I didn't find the tips and tricks given without asking. Needless to say, I'm glad I found studios that are uplifting and that care about me and my personal experience. read more

Pure Barre is AMAZING! It is a great workout and is so much fun. I love doing any kind of workout: any at-home video you can think of, pilates, hiking, yoga, etc. I'm also certified to teach Spin and Zumba. Pure Barre is by far my most favorite thing to do! No matter how often you do Pure Barre you will feel the burn every time. The energy in the class is always kept high with awesome music. The instructors and your classmates are so motivating to push a little further each time. This will give you the long and lean body of a dancer and you will feel/see the results almost instantly. I love the amazing environment and work outs. The people who go are understanding and encouraging, and its really a family of women just wanting to be healthy and strong. The workouts have amazing music that really gets you pumped. My only complaint is that the prices are high, and they don't offer student or teacher discounts for those of us who want to continue after our one-month trial. read more

Such a great community for fitness and motivation. The instructors are fantastic, the owners are kick butt and friendly, and the rest of the staff is friendly and helpful. The class is an awesome regime that changes up just enough to keep you on your toes. Definitely recommend! read more

Pure Barre Scottsdale changed the game for me! Since I started working out here I have been in the best shape of my life and the strongest I have ever been too! The different types of classes keep it interesting and fun, all the women that work there are so wonderful, friendly and helpful and they have a great selection of retail items!
