When I got my receipt, I realized she hadn't actually found the smoothie I was looking for, she had simply charged me for a different drink plus a bunch of extra add-ins. I was really frustrated because the interaction made it seem like she was helping me find the drink I had asked about, when instead I ended up paying quite a bit more for something that was essentially customized. It might look tiny, but don't misjudge the coffee and other drinks they are making here! I actually went back after my first order to try another beverage, it was that good. I started with a Fall-flavored 'refresher,' though I can't honestly remember the name. But, it was amazing! I was down the strip a few shops for an event, so I popped back to The Big Bean before they closed for their "Not Ready for Winter" coffee concoction. Another winner! I also picked up a couple of biscotti for later. When we did finally get around to trying them, they were incredible! Very hard and crunchy as a biscotti should be, and perfect for soaking up some coffee for dunking. And the flavors are perfect. Other people were ordering their breakfast sandwiches, which honestly looked and smelled incredible... I just didn't have room for food that day. Or, I would have totally ordered one just based off of others' orders alone! The real five-star facet here, though, was the staff. They were very friendly and helpful, despite how busy they were. They still found time for friendly and cheerful banter while ringing everyone up. I don't think team members get enough credit when they go above and beyond, but please take the time to tip or at least acknowledge the fantastic folks here! Overall, it's a wonderful coffee shop that I wish were closer to home! And... had more parking! When I tried to use them at the Severna Park store, I found that they had already been depleted. The employees there looked into it, confirmed there was an issue, and suggested I contact Rise Up customer service. I took pictures and sent the exact card pictures to the email website as directed. Also, it takes them a good minute to respond to an email just an fyi. After reaching out, I was told their records showed a zero balance, but no meaningful explanation or resolution was offered. What makes this especially concerning is that all four cards appeared to have gone from their full value directly to a zero balance, rather than being used gradually for coffee purchases. That seems unusual and left me wondering what happened. I appreciate the helpful staff at the Severna Park location, but I was disappointed that customer service didn't investigate further or offer any assistance. I hope Rise Up reviews its gift card processes and does more to help customers in situations like this.
