I visited Punta Playa Lio while on vacation in Palawan after hearing incredible reviews of the restaurant; so much so, that the reputation of the ownership team and chef is what practically brought me to fly to Palawan from the United States. I can tell you that not only did the food did not disappoint, but it was sensational. I am not normally one for fusion cuisine, but the fresh ingredients, tasteful presentation, and variety of local foods and international tapas available made this one of the most memorable meals from my journey.
The chipirones were delicately fried with a tangy aioli and lemon that I alternated between for an enjoyable appetizer. The carpaccio was some of the best I have ever had with a winning visual appeal. The paella negra was simply incredible; that was worth the trip alone with the fresh seafood. Lastly--and I am not one for dessert normally--the fondant de chocolate con helado de vainilla far exceeded any "lava cake" I have had at restaurants before. Lastly, excellent sangria too!
The team at Punta Playa Lio is batting a 1000 (or perhaps that would be a mil in castellano?); they are also some of the nicest folks I have met in the restaurateur space. I am waiting for the Michelin guide to come to the Philippines and for their critics to enjoy their experience where life is more fun... and the food is fantastic. read more
