Pollo Chiccharon with beans and rice

This was our first time here. The ambiance is bright, service warm and hospitable. We tried the Mofongo with Rabo (ox tail), and the Chiccaron de Pollo with Cafe con Leche. The meal was delicious. In a nutshell this is a nice place for Dominica food. Surely, worth going again.

We found this place by accident but it was a good accident! I was out with some friends after a good bike ride and this was exactly what we needed. It was a Sunday morning just about 11 am and they still had the traditional Dominican breakfast available which was nice and fresh as well. The plate was dressed to perfection with just enough of everything to make sure you were full at the end. The menu was filled with nice dishes all very traditional as well as foods for the kids as well. We had a misunderstanding on alcohol sales... I wanted a beer but they said it was a law which wasn't anymore but they said no alcohol on Sundays. Not sure what happened there. Nevertheless it was a nice find.

This place continues to have such good food. Home away from home when I don't want to cook Dominican food or when I'm missing my moms cooking

Limonada y un Presidente con Chicharon de Pollo. Dominican style lemonade and a Presidente beer with Dominican deep fried chicken chunks with white rice and beans and of course fried plantains (tostones) This place is pure gastronomical magic! If you are a fan of Latin cuisine , then you've got to try this place out. We found this place on Yelp! while looking for a local spot that offered Latin cuisine. Everything we tried was fresh and incredibly well seasoned. The Chicharon de Pollo (fried chicken chunks) are some of the best I've had in some time. The beans are delicious criollo styled beans that you'll only find at these small eateries that are so good they make you come back again and again. I highly recommend this place, you'll absolutely love the food.

Came in for a hearty lunch. I haven't been to this location since the pandemic so I wanted to give them another try. We had the sancocho with white rice and a Cuban sandwich. Both dishes were ok. Pretty good, but not the best. Service was really good, our server was really attentive and professional. Music at this location is good and not super loud. I look forward to come back for dinner.

This place is a hidden gem. The food is always delicious, the service is good too but really let's go back to the food......!!!! OMG! The beans are cooked very well and have great flavor, the chicken

The food it's great ! Very authentic and never disappoints ! Wished they had smaller portions for the mofongo or sides ones to share with . Fast service and the server was great !

Plate for pollo guisado with more tostones than the other plate.

We were very excited to try a Dominican spot close to our house, but let's say that we won't be back again. The pictures speak for themselves. We ordered a lot - pollo guisado con arroz, habichuelas y tostones, rabo guisado con arroz, habichuelas y maduros, sancocho, and jugo de avena. The first indication that this food was going to be trash was my experience at the pickup counter. The two women who served me didn't speak back to me in Spanish, even though I speak it fluently and greeted them in Spanish; other than that, they were only mildly attitudinal which doesn't bother me. But what does bother me is not telling me you're out of something and simply replacing it with something else. Instead of giving me jugo de avena, they gave me morir soñando and I couldn't tell because they put the drinks in a bag, found out in the car; they tasted good but not what I ordered. The really bad part was the food itself. No maduros, unequal amount of tostones on each plate (and two looked like they had bites taken out of them), the sancocho was under-seasoned and watery and the oxtails, which cost $23.99, were pathetically sized - two decent sized and three literally the size of the end of my thumb. What the hell? And then, I found a long, black hair belonging to a woman in my oxtails. How does y'all's food taste awful AND have a hair in it?? Pick a struggle! Don't waste y'all's time with this place and just ask your mom to cook for you (if you're Dominican). This is just confirmation that South Florida is in desperate need for a good Dominican spot.

This is a small secluded restaurant in Pembroke Pines with THE BEST DOMINICAN FOOD!!! The food makes me moan...seriously. Homemade authentic Dominican food at its best. Everything is so fresh and delicious. Felt like I was in DR. The restaurant is quiet and clean and the service is really fast. Prices are very reasonable especially for the amount of food you get. My one plate was two meals for me easy. For breakfast I recommend the Mashed plantains with eggs, Dominican sausage and fried cheese. Also, make sure you get either (or both) the cordidito or the morir Sonando. Best cordidito anywhere! Yes...Yes...Yes!!!

Ok before we start I have to tell you that I did not go for dinner or lunch I only go for breakfast and every time I go the breakfast is amazing. The service is great and they are very fast and efficient. It's a typical Dominican breakfast that I usually get but it's always very hot and fresh. If you've eaten this type of Breakfast before then you know it's all about the Mangu and this place does not disappoint. If you're in the area I would highly recommend it.

We went to Casa Borinquen but they weren't open for business and Yelp listed Punta Cana restaurant as a nearby place for similar food so we went with it. Bottom line: this was no substitute. We both regret eating here. "AMBIANCE": This is a small, divey restaurant. It's not cozy - it is a bit old and broken down. The paper placemats fit the decor. My intuition said "run" but my optimism said "it may be very authentic and worth checking out". My lesson? Listen to my intuition. SLOW SERVICE: There was 1 server but there was just us and another couple in the restaurant. Still, we waited a while for our food. Someone picked up an order of 4 containers of food to go; I wonder if they have only 1 person cooking. FOOD: The coffee was good because it was not acidic and the milk was heated. I wish I could say the same for my food. After waiting about 15 minutes, the server brought a plate of food to me and asked me if it was mine. It had been so long since she took the order she couldn't remember what I requested! The dish was for the couple who came in after us. Soon after I got my plate of mofongo stuffed with shrimp in garlic sauce. Five minutes later hubby got his Cuban sandwich. The mofongo had not been heated - it was room temp with warm thin yellow sauce on it (no garlic flavor) and five heated shrimp in the center. Room temp mofongo is a thick, unappetizing paste. The shrimp were ok but I only ate one because it was barely hot and sitting on the mound of thick, unheated food. Hubby gave me a piece of his Cuban sandwich. It was pressed so it was hot and crispy. While not stuffed with lots of meat, it had cheese and pickles sticking out of the side. The food tasted ok but not worth raving about; hubby was hungry and eating it so I said nothing. REGRET: On the way home hubby said the pork was dry and that he saw brown grease on the plate. He started to feel 'grossed' and admitted that he thinks he just ate old food. Judging from the lack of customers and the way the food tasted, I think he may be onto something. They say a picture is worth a thousand words - in this case I'd say my pics say the Galaxy Note camera makes anything look good.

First of all, my girlfriends and I bought 4 tickets to see the show. No one was checking tickets at the door so we could have come without tickets at all. We felt like we were scammed from the get go. Second, service was just abysmal. It took almost 30 minutes just for the server to come see us. Then the bottle of wine we ordered ($50 for a bottle of Josh) took another 20 minutes to get there. No water. The food was almost inedible. I'm not a person who EVER sends things back but this time I did because the mofongo was so dry I couldn't even swallow it. And the burlesque show.... I will say there was a few cool moments but some parts felt very... lacking in taste. Definitely not worth the ticket and meal prices. For sure will not be coming back here.

So, I wanted a change in food and didn't want to eat the regular chain restaurant food. We were in…read morethe area to go to the Brazilian restaurant next door to Juana's Sports Bar. However, as we drove up we noticed Juana's and decided to look it up and saw that it was Dominican food. As New Yorkers (of Caribbean decents- Haitian, Jamaica and Barbadian) now living in Florida we loved going to Dominican restaurants up north and decided to try it out. (We said we would try the Brazillian spot in the next couple of weeks for our son's graduation celebration.) On to the review: We entered and were immediately greeted and asked for a table for two. We did notice and found it somewhat odd that we passed so many empty tables and were seated in the back of the room near the bathrooms. (We half joked amongst ourselves as to possibilities as to why, but shook it off and tried to make the best of the new spot.) Our waitress was very sweet and we had no issues with her. Again, it was weird where we were seated with no other diners around and the fact that our waitress was servicing another area. Usually waiters services assigned areas that are not spread out. ‍ We ordered our food and it came out fast. For a Dominican place, we thought the food was under seasoned and needed more seasoning. The chicken chunks tasted more oily than seasoned and the pork chops were nicely cooked, but then again was not well seasoned as expected. As we dined an older woman came out from the back and upon hearing folks who she greeted responded and call her Juana, I figured out that she was the namesake and owner of Juana's Sport Bar. It was a little disappointing to see her greet other patrons with a big smile and hug( who I'm sure she knows) and not even turn and give us a hi or smile out of respect for coming to her establishment. Again, we spoke amongst ourselves as to possibilities as to why. ‍ A few minutes later an older gentleman passed by with a nicer demeanor and more welcoming personality and smiled and said enjoy the food, which put us as ease. When he came back around he went behind the bar and it was safe to say he was possibly Juana's husband and co-owner. Thanks to him for making us feel welcome. Again, as we continued to dine, I noticed a younger guy walking around and kept staring at us and I told my husband this because his back was turned. This guy at first was very menacing and actually made me feel uncomfortable. It was giving vibes of hurry up and eat. It was honestly very weird and uncomfortable vibes the way he kept staring and walking by to an area where we were the only diners. After a while he actually approach the table and asked if we were done. I honestly engaged in fake conversation with him and asked if he was the owner's son and he said yes. This actually made him break his mean like demeanor and he started to smile with us. Again, continuing with my fake conversation, because I just felt a little uneasy I said this is our first time here and he said ohhhh and smiled. I then asked about the young lady setting up by the stage and he said oh it's for Karaoke and he said I can try it out and I said nooo and we had a little laugh. I guess us laughing with him somewhat "humanized" us in his eyes. ‍ Back to Ms. Juana, we were now done and was asking the table busser for some containers (because at this point our waitress was busy in another section, and the front desk woman another one that seem to be rushing out came with the check for us to pay.). It appears that the guy didn't fully understand the request for take away containers and Juana noticed and came to the table to see what was needed. Ms. Juana came over stoned faced, with not even a smile on her face or friendly demeanor and heard what was needed and communicated back to he guy in Spanish. Juana needs to be more friendlier, because she never knows who is dining in her restaurant. Overall: The restaurant is clean and beautiful and I'm sure the vibes are great on some nights. The passion fruit margarita was a 10/10, food wasn't horrible but needed more seasoning. *Chicken Chunks tastes too oily and needs more seasoning Customer Service: *Juana needs to be more respectable and much more friendlier to ALL of her customers who come to support her. It only takes two seconds to be kind. Remember someone could be having a bad day and wanted to come out to have a good time and support your restaurant. *Please don't make, non Spanish customers feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Not everyone is a dine-dash( people who dine and don't pay) type of people. At first, we said we would be back to support, but after writing this review, have decided to look for another place where we would feel more welcomed and comfortable dining at. #VibesDon'tLie

First things first...I found this place on a random Sunday morning, and was like heyyy this is great, why don't I go here for breakfast to have some Dominican breakfast...it was like 10am..come to find out they don't open until 11am. Cool, maybe I'll try them some other time. The next evening, I decide to go back because I saw on their storefront they sell chimi's...I pull up, all lights are off. It's Monday, they're closed. Fine. This past Sunday, I try for my very last time...3rd times a charm, right? Wrong. This time they're at least open!! I see on their storefront that they have sancocho, so my mom and I decide to go in. As soon as I walked in, I found it very odd that there is no music or tv playing. They could've been playing a little bachata or merengue, come on...ambiance?!? Whatever. I also find it weird they have a huge "Corona Beer" banner instead of Presidente...odd. We're greeted by a server who's not Dominican. (Right there is a red flag for me, I tend to like Dominicans serving to feel like home but as long as the cook is Dominican, fine.) She proceeds to give us 1 menu and tells us to sit anywhere and she'll be right with us. She takes forever to get to us, when she finally comes to our table, I decide to order a chimi that I've been wanting for a week...she says "sorry, we don't have chimis. As a matter of fact, we don't have anything with bread." Umm ok. I then tell my mom to order because I now need more time to look at their menu...my mom orders sancocho. She replies "sorry we don't have sancocho right now". (Even though their sign is blinking outside with sancocho.) I then ordered something with plátano, and she said they don't have any either. How do you have a Dominican restaurant and not have plátano on deck??! Who's doing the inventory in this place?!? It's lunchtime, what the heck? The server recommends the yaroa, which for ppl who don't know what that is, is like street food...fries, cheese and meat...I would eat this after the club, not really for lunch. At that point, we decided to just walk out, which is such a shame because even though their menu was limited, it all sounded good but they just didn't have anything available. SMH. I tried 3 times...I will not be back. There are far more restaurants that will gladly take my money. I'm giving 2 stars...1 because parking is available because it's in a plaza, and 2 because they're Dominican and wanted various items off the menu.
