Ok, so I've been in Florida for nine years now, and one of the very first places I visited was Pollo Típico, and it's still one of my go-to spots. This place is solid all around. Home cooking style food, always fresh, and a menu packed with options (in a good way). This time, I stopped in around 10am for breakfast and went with the guineos with fried egg, salami, and cheese instead of the mangú. But, my friend ordered the mangú, which was smooth and flavorful. We also grabbed a pound of chicharrón and some aguacate, and everything tasted just made--crispy, fresh, and on point. What really keeps me coming back is the consistency. The servers and counter staff are always friendly, patient, and accommodating, even when it's busy (which it usually is) . There's almost always a crowd, but that just means fresh food that never sits around. From pastelitos to sancocho and everything in between, it's all reliable and well done. As for the ambiance: it's no-frills, and feels like a neighborhood spot you need in your life. You hear Spanish music, smell food cooking, see regulars coming and going--it has that old-school Latin cafeteria vibe. Nothing fancy, but exactly what you expect from a place that focuses on good food. And the real star? The rotisserie chicken!!!! For sure some of the best I've had in South Florida. So if you're in Fort Lauderdale, or Broward County, or nearby, Pollo Típico is absolutely worth a visit. When I am craving mofongo I head to Pollo Tipico. I have been doing that at least twice a year for many years. There's a decent amount of parking spots, and you can dine there. I never have. There is a separate, plain dining room away from the take-out area. I always get my meals to go, so I can take them home and share with family members. The takeout line is often crowded and very busy. So I was happy to see only four people ahead of me today. They usually make the mofongo when you order it. So wait time is about 8-10 minutes, once you place your order. Servers are always friendly. I got my meal with stewed chicken and took it home to share with hubby. I love that the pork cracklin is mixed into the mofongo because it gives it a nice crunch. I don't recall this problem in all the years I have been going there, but the chicken was super salty. (I have gotten various meats to accompany my mofongo in the past, including oxtails, beef, and pork.) I noticed another review that complained about the same issue. Please cut back on the salt. Customers can always add salt. They can't subtract it. Because of this, I subtracted a star. The portion size is decent (two of us ate my one order) and prices are reasonable ($15.99 for my dish). I plan to return when my next mofongo craving hits. And I hope the too-salty issue has been addressed. read more

Excellent chicharrón! I've been on a kick lately. This spot is tucked away off 441 near Stirling and worth the trip. Most competitive prices and the dishes all looked super fresh. Food is served from a line lechonera style by the pound or dish. The service is swift and efficient and kind enough. Server got a fresh piece of chicharron out the back without me asking and graciously gave extra onions on request. One piece of pork a generous side of yucca and one queso frito was about $13+tax. Inside is like a large no frills homegrown cafe with pictures of family all over. Will certainly return when the craving hits! read more

Sancocho is my all time favorite when sick and the whole chicken meal with rice and beans is my "go-to" for an easy cheap family dinners when I'm on the run. The tres leches is great and the absolute best is the house made hot sauce! I always bring some home and pour it on everything! Even season my chicken when I cook with it if I have enough! Went to Pollo Tipico had a taste for Dominican Food. So I went to the line to order to go I ordered the Sancocho (soup) I also ordered stewed goat with pigeon peas and rice with totones. Unfortunately this place is getting worse with time. 4 years ago this was the best dominican place to go to,now is just a regular low class restaurant. We gave them.anothwr chance today. Ordered food and when arrived food was cold and it seemed to be warmed in microwave. The servers are nice but they need younger people working to be on top of clients order or needs. Excellent food good price, and I placed an order on Thursday 7/13/23 for Saturday 7/15/23. My order was ready that Saturday on time well prepared and the presentation was great. Food review flavors were amazing on to of the pork shoulders that were cut up and nice and delicious onion and garlic on top. Haven't had a Dominican breakfast this good in a long time. Pollo típico has option for indoor dinning and they also have a section where you can select the food that you want and take it to go. Like you can build your own plate (love this). The place is always clean when I go. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The food is made fresh. If I could rate this in the negatives I would. I don't know what chokehold this place has on my dad but it's the only place he likes to eat on Sundays. Typical Dominican. I was sent here by a coworker stating that they have "the best chicharrones de Broward". This was going to be the test if I can trust him with food recommendations in the future. The food was good, typical Dominican food. Service was a little slow, and I think that's why a lot of people were coming in and taking out food, a lot of people. Apart from that, the mofongo was a little dry, had to add a lot of lemon to it, but the carne frita made up for it, the flavor was on another level and was cooked just right. I enjoyed the food with the Dominican beer, Presidente. My wife had the steak with salsa and she loved it. On purpose she left some of the food to have as left overs for lunch the next day. I also tried it and it tasted great and was tender to eat. The kids shared a half chicken with white rice and beans and they devoured it. Like I said the food was good, service was slow.
