    Chicharrón with "salad"
    Livi S.

I've heard about this place and decided to check it out on Dominicana Mother's day with my best friend. The restaurant shares the lot with a car wash and the car wash was full. No parking available. Parked across the street, no big deal. It has outdoor seating but the temperature was in the 90s. The restaurant itself is small, walked in and didn't know if I needed to wait to be seated or if I could just seat myself. No sign to indicate. We stood by the door for a little bit until a lady from behind the bar signal for us to sit at a table my the entrance. It took 8 minutes for a server to come and asked if we were being helped. The place was not packed. She didn't even introduce herself. I ordered el chicharrón which I was told came with a salad. I also ordered white rice, red beans and tostones. My friend ordered mofongo. The food came out pretty quick. My food was not hot but tasted good. The beans were not enough for the quantity of rice but they were both good. The chicharrón was also good but the salad was one slice of tomato with some shredded lettuce. My friend's mofongo was made with either a mixture of ripe plantains and green plantains or the green plantains were beginning to ripen. The portion was small, like kid size small and had cheese on top and the sauce tasted like sancocho. Not good . We had 1 beer and a passion fruit juice. The music was so loud we couldn't really have a conversation. The total was $65. Never again.

Went here one rainy Saturday night. Was greeted by a very friendly staff. There was music and good vibes. The Dj was walking around talking on the mic playfully with everyone. There was a guira instrument out. Not sure if the restaurant had it or if a customer brought. But the guira enhances the vibes. Lol! We ordered the seafood picadera. I don't remember if it's the large or the small one. It had fish, Calamari, shrimp, tostones and fried yuca. I enjoyed everything except the yuca. Which I normally love. It seemed too oily. It kind of seemed like there was a batter on thinly cut yuca. I could hardly taste the Yuca. Ordered this non alcoholic drink, passion fruit with oats. Loved it. I asked if they had any hot sauce. She gave me a homemade hot sauce. It was soooo good, that I asked if I could buy one. She went to go ask and then a manager came to me and gave me one to take home. Now, that's great customer service. I'd definitely visit again.

Their happy hour prices are really good and let you try their Latin/asian fusion concept. I had a "sushi" roll made with rice and beans and pork belly. We did have to push a little to track down the waitress a couple of times for drink refills and for the check because she wasn't super attentive. The drinks from the bar also took a while to come out. So plan for plenty of time here if you have a show after.

IG: @shallonztable El Tiesto Cafe in Fort Lauderdale is one of those hidden gems you might pass by if you're not paying attention and that would be a mistake. Th From the outside, it's unassuming. Step inside and you're met with neon accents, an industrial-style space, and a thoughtful blend of Dominican and Japanese décor through the art work that reflects exactly what the menu delivers: balance, culture, and intention. The menu offers a solid mix of appetizers, sandwiches, sushi, and entrées all weaving Dominican comfort with Japanese-inspired elements. The music sets the tone perfectly: upbeat, vibey, and not overpowering, so you can actually enjoy conversation. It's family friendly as there was a mix of various groups and ages enjoying the establishment. Dining is available both indoors and outdoors, with an upstairs lounge that opens later in the evening for DJ sessions on weekends making this a great dinner-to-night-out spot. It's conveniently located just before the train tracks, with paid street parking and nearby lots available. Service stood out immediately. When we arrived, managers were hands-on and present, explaining that things pick up later in the night. I noticed Rollo in particular consistently welcoming guests, walking them through the menu, seating them, and pointing out essentials like restroom locations. That kind of consistency matters. The entire staff was attentive, friendly, and made the experience feel easy. What We Ordered & Loved: Mini Mofongos - Beef & Chicken ($15) Served in green plantain cups, these mini mofongos were savory, garlicky, and comforting. Both meats were juicy and well-seasoned. Picadera de Campo Sampler ($38) A Dominican-style platter with sausage, chicken wings, fried cheese, salami, fried green plantain, and yuca fries. This sampler brought full Dominican vibes to the table. I'm not usually a wings person, but these were naked, well-seasoned, and surprisingly good. That Yuca came topped with chimichurri sauce, that was a rich harmonious blend herbs and garlic coming through and man it was delicious along with everything on the platter. And fried cheese? Always a yes. Great portion, great presentation, perfect for sharing. La Chapi Roll ($18) Chicken tempura, bacon, cream cheese, ripe plantain, chicharrón, eel sauce, sweet chili, bell peppers, and mashed avocado. Now let me be clear -- I am not a sushi lover. But this? One of my favorite dishes of the night. The crunch, the sweetness from the chili sauce, the richness of the tempura, every bite delivered balance of everything. This roll is a must-order, especially if sushi usually isn't your thing. Tiesto Chofan ($20) Dominican-style fried rice we had the mix of chicken and shrimp, it was layered, perfectly seasoned, cooked just right, and packed with flavor, they didn't hold back on the protein. This is one of those dishes I'd recommend to everyone, comforting, bold, and satisfying and balanced with the ripe plantains. La Cosquillita ($26) 24-hour Dominican-seasoned baby back ribs glazed in a homemade Japanese BBQ sauce, served with sushi rice and tostones. You can smell the ginger in the sauce before the first bite, and it creates a cohesive, balanced flavor that pairs beautifully with the fresh sushi rice and plantains. It's a balance of ginger in the bbq sauce that makes the dish interesting, the meat was tender and flavour forward. Tiesto Tres Leches ($8) Flavor-wise, it's very vanilla forward, but I personally wished the cake was more soaked. It was light, still enjoyable just not my favorite dish of the night. The flavor of the milk was amazing, spiced and flavourful and would make it even better if soaked a bit more. Extras Worth Noting 20% Service charge is automatically included. Street paid parking is available. They offer nightly specials . I do like they had a Saturday specials, and unlike most places, Saturday 2x1 drink special on mojitos, margaritas, sangria from 3pm-5pm which makes this an easy early-evening stop. Overall, El Tiesto Cafe delivers on atmosphere, service, and flavor. It's a place where cultures meet, food tells a story, and the vibe carries you from dinner into the night. Where food meets adventure--see you back at the table! IG: @shallonztable Review #2 - 2026

Home cooking style food, always fresh, and a menu packed with options (in a good way). This time, I stopped in around 10am for breakfast and went with the guineos with fried egg, salami, and cheese instead of the mangú. But, my friend ordered the mangú, which was smooth and flavorful. We also grabbed a pound of chicharrón and some aguacate, and everything tasted just made--crispy, fresh, and on point. What really keeps me coming back is the consistency. The servers and counter staff are always friendly, patient, and accommodating, even when it's busy (which it usually is) . There's almost always a crowd, but that just means fresh food that never sits around. From pastelitos to sancocho and everything in between, it's all reliable and well done. As for the ambiance: it's no-frills, and feels like a neighborhood spot you need in your life. You hear Spanish music, smell food cooking, see regulars coming and going--it has that old-school Latin cafeteria vibe. Nothing fancy, but exactly what you expect from a place that focuses on good food. And the real star? The rotisserie chicken!!!! For sure some of the best I've had in South Florida. So if you're in Fort Lauderdale, or Broward County, or nearby, Pollo Típico is absolutely worth a visit. Always consistent, always a good choice, and for me, it gives me a taste of back up north with both the food and the service. Heads-up: if you dine in, you'll probably leave smelling like cooking oil, but honestly, that's a small price to pay for food this good

They're open quite late, so it was nice to have the option on UberEats for delivery past midnight! **Yarao-- fries topped with a layer of melted cheese and chicken, smothered in another layer of mayo and ketchup. Pretty sweet and tasty, enjoyed this one :) ** Fritura Mixta / Mixed fried plate-- big platter of fried pork belly, cheese, chicken, beef, sausage, sausage links, and plantains. Meats were mostly dry and needed to be dipped in sauce. I liked the fried cheese, which were hearty and squishy like poutine curds and the sausage links, while friends liked the plantains (which were also tasty the next day!). Nice to try the variety, but wouldn't order again since we didn't finish most of it. ** Mofongo-- came with fried pork belly and sausages plus lettuce swimming in mayo. Friends told me the mofongo usually has a meat filling in the middle, but this version was an entire mound of the same plantain mixture and texture. It was dry and hard to cut even with a plastic knife, and it was actually hard for me to swallow too but would probably benefit by dipping in sauce or ketchup. ** Burrito-- description on the menu was not very.. descriptive, but it was filled with steak, lettuce, tomatoes, and the mayo/ketchup sauce. This was an overall juicy and flavorful item, but the steak was stark contrast and pretty dry, making it hard to tear or bite off pieces. This burrito was my favorite of the meal! ** Pizza Empanada-- There was lot of fried shell to get through on the sides before reaching the middle filled with cheese and pizza sauce. Pretty tasty, quite oily~ ** Chicken tacos-- came with little cups of hot sauce and salsa + lime halves, but the shredded meat was super dry and literally hard to swallow. We didn't make it past one bite. Overall, happy to try them and filled us up for a late meal when options were limited but I'm sure there are better places for Dominican food out there. I would choose the burrito if trying this place again.
