This place really disappointed me. I am Dominican, so I try to eat and shop at local Dominican places to support my people as much as possible! First things first...I found this place on a random Sunday morning, and was like heyyy this is great, why don't I go here for breakfast to have some Dominican breakfast...it was like 10am..come to find out they don't open until 11am. Cool, maybe I'll try them some other time. The next evening, I decide to go back because I saw on their storefront they sell chimi's...I pull up, all lights are off. It's Monday, they're closed. Fine. This past Sunday, I try for my very last time...3rd times a charm, right? Wrong. This time they're at least open!! I see on their storefront that they have sancocho, so my mom and I decide to go in. As soon as I walked in, I found it very odd that there is no music or tv playing. They could've been playing a little bachata or merengue, come on...ambiance?!? Whatever. I also find it weird they have a huge "Corona Beer" banner instead of Presidente...odd. We're greeted by a server who's not Dominican. (Right there is a red flag for me, I tend to like Dominicans serving to feel like home but as long as the cook is Dominican, fine.) She proceeds to give us 1 menu and tells us to sit anywhere and she'll be right with us. She takes forever to get to us, when she finally comes to our table, I decide to order a chimi that I've been wanting for a week...she says "sorry, we don't have chimis. As a matter of fact, we don't have anything with bread." Umm ok. I then tell my mom to order because I now need more time to look at their menu...my mom orders sancocho. She replies "sorry we don't have sancocho right now". (Even though their sign is blinking outside with sancocho.) I then ordered something with plátano, and she said they don't have any either. How do you have a Dominican restaurant and not have plátano on deck??! Who's doing the inventory in this place?!? It's lunchtime, what the heck? The server recommends the yaroa, which for ppl who don't know what that is, is like street food...fries, cheese and meat...I would eat this after the club, not really for lunch. At that point, we decided to just walk out, which is such a shame because even though their menu was limited, it all sounded good but they just didn't have anything available. SMH. I tried 3 times...I will not be back. There are far more restaurants that will gladly take my money. I'm giving 2 stars...1 because parking is available because it's in a plaza, and 2 because they're Dominican and wanted various items off the menu. read more

As a food enthusiast and Dominican myself, I couldn't resist the hype that a viral video threw at this restaurant. My family and I went to check it out and see how authentic it was to our roots and such... I even called my cousin up and told him I was heading to the spot in which he replied "it used to be very popping and delicious but lately it's not the best Dominican food around anymore." I didn't heed his warning and decided I would make my own judgment on such things. Upon entering, it was a very spacious, yet empty, restaurant and we were greeted quite nicely. The young lady took our order by memory (not fond of this method) and we ordered 3 chimis, mangu with pork, two sides of fries, two empanadas and a mamey shake (my grandmother's specialty). We received our empanadas and the deep fried dough was delicious. The inside was quite good as it had bits of fried cheese and salami but it lacked in the sense that it was too dry. I enjoyed it regardless and the ketchup/mayo sauce mix was great (something I do at home too). Well, the chimis came out and the patty was dry (at least for my taste) but the buns were delicious!!!! My mom said "just like in DR!" WELL... The disappointment that happened was that the young lady left her shift early and forgot about our fries, and we were done and they hadn't come out. My mother also mentioned that the pork had too much oregano (not a traditional Dominican seasoning) and the mangu wasn't the best she's had. Pork was burnt to bits unfortunately. Overall the flavors weren't true Dominican but more so a fusion of Colombian x Dominican. The other lady gave us a complimentary desert on the house because we did not receive our fries. Customer service is excellent! But the food is more on the 3 star (perhaps we were too picky since this restaurant supposedly is 100% D.R.) Empanadas were good but you can find great ones for half the price anywhere else in Miami! read more

I got a picadera & yuca cheese sticks. Good portion to share, the service was nice and the servers were very attentive. The ambiance inside was nice; they were playing a baseball game on the tv and had music in the background as well. I need to come back to try an actual entree. read more

What a first culinary experience in Florida and what a time to be alive!!! Lol The owner of this Cuban restaurant, who is my friend's uncle, asked me what I like. I said plaintains and meat. So he recommended the exquisite ´carne Molida' (Whole sweet plantain " boat " with ground beef) and oh boy it did not disappoint. This is a little hidden gem! Was in the mood for a chimi and my BF suggested we come here. I'd been here I once before and wasn't too impressed but I decided to give it another shot. The place was pretty empty when we got there. The waitress cane over with menus and took our drink orders, she came back with the sodas and we placed our food order. I got the chimi with fried cheese. I understand we have to wait since it's made to order so I didn't mind. When the chimi came out it was nice and hot! The bread was a little over toasted for my taste as when I smooshed it down to take a bite it started falling apart. The chimi was delicious I will give them that, but by the end I was eat meat and cheese cause the bread just kept crumbling apart. We ordered a morir soñiando and a majarete to go and proceeded to wait over 15 minutes for the majarete. Had my bf not asked if they had run out we would have sat there longer. The waitress said she was waiting for us to ask for the check to bring it out which made no sense to me since she brought the morir soñiando, but ok. Last night (or should I say this morning), my friends and I were looking for restaurant that was open late (it was almost 5 am). I checked on Yelp and found this place! I didn't even know there was a Dominican place so close to home. I was in heaven. We walked in at 4:45 am and were going to take our food to go because they were closing soon and we didn't want to be "those people" but the staff encouraged us to stay. The service was excellent and we didn't get any attitude that you'd expect to find from a place about to close. I ordered the Chimi Patron because I LOVE toston burgers and I couldn't be happier. I asked if I could substitute the beef for chicken and they were able to accommodate. Everyone was happy with their orders and a man who might have been the manager or owner checked to see if everything was ok. All in all, this is exactly what Miami Lakes/Hialeah was missing. HOWEVER, you don't go to a restaurant cuz of the music or how nice it is right? I got there after the lunch rush so I was basically by myself and some other dude was there. I sit at the bar and the server gives me the menu, looks like all Dominican fast food (fritangas), which was fine. I order a quipe, nope, they only have one left and it's filled with crab meat..., I just wanted a regular one so whatever. So then I order 2 empanadas that were the size of Texas, that was cool, but very little meat. Then walks in this lady and orders freaking arroz con habichuela y carne and I was like "what the hell?!?!?!?"...so I asked the server, what did that lady just order? It wasn't on the menu. She said that it was the special for today. I had already ordered and homegirl totally forgot to tell me the special. Damn. Gotta tighten up. The server was from another country which is fine, but damn, know your stuff specially when dealing with Dominican people at a Dominican restaurant. Parking at the plaza is a bitch too. Cars have to park way too close to each other. 3 stars go to the music, the ambiance, and really just for representing the DR. Oh yeah, little pricy out there for what they got. I mainly focus on three things when I go there, the Chimi (which is a Dominican style burger) it's one of the best I've had, if not the best. The picadera which is assortment of various fried meats, cheese and tostónes (or fries), that will knock your socks off with its intense flavors! And last but least, the empanadas... oh the empanadas! ham, cheese and chicken it's my favorite combo. Love the freshness of the product, the quality, the PORTIONS and service. The best place I have ever gone too! The service is awesome and the food is delicious. Mofungo is on point. All of my friends go every single week. In a month i think I've been there at least 15 times. The empanadas with queso frito and salami is my favorite and I really recommend it. Anything in the menu is great! This spot is right by my house and it's perfect hours for me(late night).i went for the first time this weekend and it was cool.The employees was cool as hell. He showed me what's the most requested orders and he also showed me other things on the menu I might like(cool dude).one thing about me when I go to new place I like to try different things that way I know for next time what im getting.so me and my homey ordered a chimi burger,salchipapas and some fried cheese. The chimi burger was good. Nice size and its fresh off the grill with pink sauce. The salchipapas were my favorite. They were really good. They had cheese sauce on them which complimented the salchipapas perfect. And the fried cheese....I mean, FRIED CHEESE(my bad I love cheese). I found this place over a five months ago as it's in a hidden shopping center, once I found it I had to try it as I die hard mofongo fan! And their mofongo is truly amazing, How ever when I tried my camarones al ajillo I found they tasted funny spit them out immediately they tasted spoiled and old and something was completely off about them. My sister felt sick and didn't want to finish the rest of her meal. Love this place and the ambiance at night amazing mofongo is great! Just not sure what's going on with their shrimp. read more
