I can't even begin to explain how much I adore Pulpit Rock Brewery. I'm an out of town-er and would recommend ALL Decorah visitors come here once. To me, it is the ideal place that friends come to in the afternoon and sip and sip and sip and sip until night falls and then all you want to keep doing is keep sitting in this cozy garage drinking more beer. It's quite hip for such a small town. The space feels very urban, a hipster Brooklyn vibe that I really love and seemed very modern and progressive for a small Iowa town. Not what I expected visiting the remote Midwest! Think flannel, brown ales, board games....all the feels. Service was so friendly and the beers were very reasonably priced. Tastings offered. What I most loved about this place is that not every beer is like 14% ABV. I feel like this new brewery trend is forcing brewmasters to make these crazy double IPAs that will literally knock you on your socks after 1.5 beers! All the beers are reasonable ABVs which makes you feel like you can drink them for hours. I loved the Dark English Mild beer. So easy to wash down on a Sunday afternoon. Growlers available for $10. Had my stay been longer, I would have needed to take some home for my nightcap. I can't wait to come back and I will intentionally start to seek out distributors and bars that sell their beer. Thanks Pulpit Rock! Tips: Bring your own pizza in. Seemed like families were welcome! Tip your friendly bartender :) read more

Friendly staff, great beer, what more could you want? Samples available. They also have growlers if you want to take some home. Not as many IPAs as TG so that is nice. read more

They don't have anywhere close to the cool vibe that this place creates with their super staff and beer!! It is a must stop in Decorah!! Hopefully I get back soon!! Love Love this place!! read more

Pulpit Rock Brewing - Breweries Near Me - Decorah, Iowa

Decorah, IA - come for the Toppling Goliath, stay for the Pulpit Rock. This place was recommended to me by a coworker who heard we were making our way to Decorah to have some TG. I took his suggestion lightly because you never know how good someone's beer tastes are (i'm a total beer snob, ik) but then received another recommendation when we were at TG and figured we had to stop. Every beer we had was super good. From my understanding the founders of Pulpit Rock were originally TG brewers so that explains why this place is so good only a year and a half in. If you are anywhere near Decorah you don't want to miss this place. #nextbigthing #youheardithere read more

The beer was great and the ambiance was just as good. Right off the roadway but once you entered it was a homey local brewery feel. My friends and I enjoyed our time here. They have lots of games and outdoor seating. read more

A great place to snag a great beer. Sours, IPAs, and more. Highly recommended. Full of locals and character.

Grab a drink, sit outside and enjoy one of the best breweries and views in Iowa. The brews are on constant rotation, but a fan favorite is the Saftig. Food is available from The Landing next door for an added layer of coolness. read more

Absolutely loved this place with great stouts, sours and ipas. Small town feel and ambiance was off the charts. This is a must stop.

Drove an hour and a half to come to town with my daughter and son-in-law from Cincinnati who wanted to visit another micro-brew down the street. We found Pulpit Rock on line and decided to give it's try as well. Ambience: a bit warehouse like. But I'm here for the beverage. Nice large patio seating and today's 70's were a perfect temp for outdoor drinking. Indoor seating as well, simple but attractive. Nice selection of games you can play found at rear near restrooms. Staff: we didn't get into much interaction. Friendly, businesslike. Good impression. Food: hey, it's a micro-brew. No food. BYOF encouraged in their FAQ card Beverages: 4 of us -- Preiskestolen Blonde, 5th Ave IPA, Table Service (Belgian table beer), Cider (Sutliff, Lisbon, IA). All pleased. I had the cider. Slightly sweet, clean finish. Make a stop here. read more

I've only been here a few times as it is quite drive but have never been disappointed in there beers. The service has always been and A+. It is in the top three of my favorite breweries in Iowa and I've been to a lot of them. If you have not been here already. I would suggest making the drive, you will want to go back. read more

If you're a fan of IPA's, give this place a try if you're coming to town for Topping Goliath. Who would have thought that a town the size of Decorah, Iowa would have two world class breweries? read more

My wife and I made a 4-1/2 hour beer run on Tuesday 7/25/17 form Chicago nw suburbs to Decorah, Iowa! Two stops Toppling Goliath and Pulpit Rock! Pulpit Rock has great beer with a large variety! The Mjau Mjau IIPA is an exceptional IPA! My only issue is I'm hoping the bottle or can more of their beers. Crowler & Growler were my only options! Crowler is cool but only one beer were in them, the other were Growler! Always feel they don't store or travel well! Guess I'll have to consume them right away! Meow Meow Sooooo good! Well done PRB! read more

Great beer and atmosphere! Rotating tap list so things change quickly. They add a lot of fresh ingredients to their beer which gives it a ton of flavor. read more

Pulpit Rock has great beer friendly and knowledgeable staff, a great patio...and now a great party room! The new event space is perfection -- and Whitney was great to work with! read more

Great little bar/taproom. Their porters (all 3 of them!) were amazing. We went to TGB first and had good beer, but they had so many IPA's we were a but turned off. Had passed Pulpit Rock on the way so decided to give it a try. So glad we did. The porters are some of the best I've had. So much flavor and lower than usual ABV. Nom nom nom. read more

Excellent beer and variety complemented by a great atmosphere. I first stopped during RAGBRAI and felt like they rolled out the red carpet so I made a point to visit them again recently and found it to be a similar experience, nice work! read more

The beer was pretty good but the service was horrible!! The place wasn't fancy but looked cool however the bartenders were rude and seemed to be bothered by our presence, made us wait 10 minutes before taking our order (8 people in the place). read more

This place looks like fun! It isn't. The bartender was rude and unfriendly. We did not feel at all welcome. 2 stars because the beer was actually good. Sad because we drove 3 hours to try it. read more

This place was great, we did flights and enjoyed all the dark beers. Outdoor area was super cute with lots of couples and families bringing their own food! read more

Best beer in town. Staff is super friendly. Good atmosphere. Limited release beers are world class. Don't pass it by if you're going through Decorah. read more

We stopped in and got a sampler.... and we left with a growler. Thanks! Super enjoyable, and nice brews.

Fun outdoor seating. They had some outdoor games available which would have been fun if we had more people in our group. I enjoyed the ample gardettos snacks. read more

Wow. I have had a tasty froth of hops all over the world and think I have a good sense of the microbrew thing. The beer here is good. Really good. Really, really good. The tiramisu porter was the biggest surprise. The lager was perfect. You cannot go wrong stopping into this place if you are into microbrews. It far exceeded my expectations. My only caution is that it is a hard place to hang out in. It is really small. Seating is hard to come by and the flow is awkward. It is pretty cramped. You have to stand around the bar and it is not conducive to conversation. They still need to figure out it's atmosphere and what it wants to be in terms of a complete experience and catering to it. If they figure out a good design, layout and how to properly arrange its occupants then this place will be 5 stars and one of the best microbrews in the Midwest. Stop in and get a flight though - it is still very much worth it! read more

I was greatly impressed with this little hidden gem. Don't overlook Pulpit Rock. The small taproom gives an inviting feel and forces you to converse with everyone around you. It was ascetically pleasing, the beer was phenomenal, and the staff was friendly/knowledgeable. I'll be anxiously awaiting their product to be distributed in Des Moines. read more

Really love this place. Beer is amazing, the staff is very friendly and laid back. The beer menu always has something interesting and different every time I've gone. Their To Hop and to Hold and Mr. Hoppy Pants have become two of my favorite beers, and I don't even like IPA's.Definitely prefer this place to the others in the area. read more

Wow. I mean wow! Stopped in on a hot afternoon and had the coolest craft brew experience. Many beer styles and varieties. Loved the atmosphere and the get-to-know-your-new-neighbor feel to the place. Stopped in for just one. Ended up trying the Preikestolen and Doc Rems, Cattywampus and Heavy Lifter. All were great. Left with a growler filled with our new favorite lager, Heavy Lifter. read more

definitely tg's little brother, but i thoroughly enjoyed all that i tried from them. friendly employees at their most tested time as well.
