    Immunity wellness shot
    Jenny A.

This place is really cute! You'd never know it's a vegan cafe (if someone is thrown off by that). I got the Magnum smoothie, who in was delicious and made with clean ingredients. The wellness shot was available in their fridge area with ready made items. The desserts looked to die for... next time!

Lots of berries The açaí part is not as solid/frozen to what I'm used to more of a smoothie texture but good I'm leaving town tomorrow and I'm really thankful they took my Togo order before they closed I was right around the corner

    The "Gogi Apparatus" - fantastic

The variety here is excellent, from the juice to the food to the smoothies. Any of the smoothies can be made into a bowl, which I'd recommend if you have the time/space - the bowls better display your fresh, scrumptious and healthy ingredients, and are gorgeous! The service is friendly and prompt, and the space is airy and welcoming. This is vegan cuisine done right - don't miss it.

We were at Pulp And Sprout for lunch on Saturday 9/14/2024. They offer lots of vegan options for breakfast and lunch. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. The restaurant is casual with a unique college vibe. Our lattes and food were delicious. We had two vegetarians and a meat eater. We were all very happy with our choices. I'm looking forward to our next Asheville visit.

Mushroom banh mi, sweet potato salad, broccoli soup, chickpea Caesar sandwich.

Cozy juice bar and cafe that was the perfect post-flight stop for lunch. Ordered fantastic "breathe" juice and the mushroom banh mi, with the broccoli soup (and had a bite of my husband's chickpea sandwich. Everything was so delicious, and very friendly service. Great plant-based option in the area for a relatively quick breakfast or lunch!

Let me first say I am not a vegan. My friend is and she chose the lunch spot! I chose the Mushrooms Banh Mi sandwich that came with sweet potato salad. The sweet potato salad was not over sweet but surprising to me - so full of flavor!!!!!!! The sourdough baguette was really really tough to eat, hard, and not easy to bite through. However, every single thing inside was simply phenomenal ! Just WOW! I did taste her beet sandwich, which I surprisingly found refreshing and super yummy. We shared the Chickpea Caesar Salad, and I couldn't get enough. I would not hesitate to go back. We also bought a 6 pack of their juices home along with puppy treats. The place was super clean and absolutely PACKED! as we left. they brought out a cheesecake! We will go back. You don't have to be vegan to eat here for sure.

Really great vegan food, all sweets use date sugar . The mushroom Bahn Mi was great and the small dollop of potato salad was excellent as a side. My friend had the gluten free bread and recommended it too. I enjoyed the Matcha latte and the millionaire bar was worth the calories! Clean, airy space and super nice service. Worth returning in this city full of great veggie fare!

Delicious, darling must do while in Asheville! It's the quintessential Asheville culture in a stop type spot. And easily accessible off the freeway. All the natural yummy juices smoothies or food you need. Seating for 2-6 and on a weekday mid day not too crowded. Parking is tough though so be prepared. Got the Go Forth Green and Medicine Mylk drinks, one cold pressed and one nut mylk. The Go Forth Green is light and refreshing as you would expect. The medicine mylk is a meal and heavy, I should've gotten this alone. But I also got the avo toasty! Definitely got my greens for the day lol. Everything was delicious. Service was good, but there's definitely an "attitude" that comes with the generation working the cash register lol. Eg if you ask any questions you get a "look" as if you should know and don't come here if you don't because you don't belong. I say this as I watched a couple that look like those behind the counter and there was a very different "hello how are you doing today" kinda vibe going on. The level of respect was wayyyyy different. I'm a teacher so I know this look and style, they'll learn when they age!

    Kitchari

Parking was a bit crowded for this smoothie place; many of the spots were labeled for the neighboring salon and I had to roam the surrounding streets for a bit. On arrival, I ordered a kitchadi, which is a mung bean-based stew kind of a thing, and a chocolate cherry bomb smoothie which looked exactly like you'd expect for the name but tasted more like cherry than anything. My kitchadi was quite excellent, being topped with aesthetically pleasing vegetables and possessing a warm spice mix and a hearty flavor. It was the best kitchadi I've had in Asheville, which sounds like faint praise but I'm saying it's better than what I tried from the local tea place. Some outdoor seating was available, including a small deck overlooking a garden where you can get a glimpse of the mountains as well. The thing is smoothie places is sometimes all they have is carbs, but here, there was a complete set of options for getting protein and healthy fats, and it was good-tasting and good-looking cuisine. This was health food done right.

Every dish was a masterpiece, bold and elegant, comforting and exciting all at once. This is vegan food that doesn't whisper or apologize--it commands the room. The flavors were layered, intentional, and downright magical. Each plate arrived like a work of art, and somehow tasted even better than it looked. I kept thinking, there is no way the next dish can top this--and yet, it always did. Plant proves, without question, that vegan cuisine can be indulgent, luxurious, and unforgettable. And then... the dessert. I am not exaggerating when I say it deserves its own standing ovation. Rich, decadent, perfectly balanced--one bite and time stopped. If happiness had a flavor, this would be it. I would return to Plant for dessert alone, without a second thought. Plant is hands-down the best vegan restaurant in Asheville. It's passion, creativity, and excellence on a plate. If you haven't eaten here yet, you're missing out on something truly special. I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.
