I recently purchased a home workstation from Puget Custom Computers. I have never had a company so thoroughly exceed my expectations. From start to finish, the entire experience was enjoyable. Over the past few years, I've purchased three Dells, one Sony Vaio, and an Apple MacBook Pro. The Vaio was a disappointment, needing frequent expensive repair. I was generally satisfied overall with both Dell and Apple. I'd have given them both an 8 or 9 for overall satisfaction (of 10), only because I was totally unaware of how high the bar could be raised. In retrospect, I'd give Dell and Apple much lower scores because Puget has surpassed those experiences by such a large margin. I wasn't necessarily in the market for the cheapest possible deal. My goal was to find a quality system at an affordable price. I wanted something that would last me a few years with a solid upgrade path. I've grown weary of proprietary hardware whose only real purpose is to hinder service and force the replacement of the entire system when a single part becomes obsolete or fails. On the Puget website, I put together and saved a test build. Over the next several days, I was able to easily retrieve and tweak the build as I researched the individual system components and competitor pricing. I noticed that Puget will retain whatever shipping method you've selected for any possible future return/shipments. I opted for the fancy next-day (9am) shipping since Puget would be picking up the tab if they sent out something DOA. I placed the order 05/18/2010 and quickly received a confirmation email with a link to monitor my order status. Viewing the Order Details reveals the status for each individual component. Within an hour or so, I was surprised to see they'd accounted for almost all of my system. A couple parts needed to be ordered and they'd arrive over the next 2 days. This is perfectly understandable, remember this is a customer system. There's no way they could have every imaginable part in-stock all the time. The impressive part here was that the website told me exactly what was going on with every part, so I was never wondering. On 05/20, the system was in assembly and testing. On 05/21 (Friday afternoon), I changed my mind and wanted to change the case fans to allow for more cooling - What if I want to add a second video card next year? Perhaps I'll have retired and start to take my gaming seriously. It could happen. Even though my system was fully assembled, Puget handled the change without missing a beat. On 05/24 (Monday), testing, QC, benchmarks were completed, and the system was shipped. There were pages and pages of benchmarks and pictures to look through while I waited on the shipping. Puget uses a thermal imaging camera to ensure optimum airflow and cooling (Seriously, how cool is that?). Many of my benchmarks had been run before I swapped out the fans. I took screen-shots anticipating they'd be re-run and change with the new fans. There were changes. Most noticeably, the system is much, much cooler under idle and load conditions. It arrived 05/25 around 9am, less than 7 days from the order date. I bet if I hadn't changed the fans after it was assembled, it could have gone out on Friday and arrived Saturday (in 4 days). To all the scientists out there, considering something in between a personal computer and a cluster, this review is for you. I can save you time though: Contact Puget and start building. I work at the University of Colorado on all manner of complex systems. I'm a methodologist. I build computational tools to explain and predict mechanisms that cause emergent behavior in ecological, genetic, and social systems. The PI of the lab I did my PhD in recently decided to upgrade their lab computer with the idea that (1) they needed something which could handle larger data sets and enormous simulations, and (2) they wanted a computer everyone in the lab could run things on at the same time. Like a lab cluster. They could use the compute resources on campus, but wanted something they could control. As their go-to computer person I took on this project. All I knew was it had to have one of AMD's insanely high core count Threadripper CPUs. And, the University wanted a four digit price tag. I contacted multiple custom computer builders, not just Puget. Some responded with template emails. One seemed uninterested unless we were going to commit far more money over many years. And the rest estimated part prices that were marked up a strange amount. Puget responded in the form of Jeff Stubbers, who wound up answering more than a dozen emails from me, about everything from thermal concerns to motherboard-level encryption. He really seemed to consider the purpose of our interactions to help us do science, not to make Puget money. And, when he and I were settled on final specs, the rest of the team that took over were also, amazingly, of the same mindset. They stepped me through each part of the build. They sent pictures (physical, BIOS, and thermal). They sent updates explaining what was happening and why. And then they shipped us our new lab computer, which we affectionately named Dobby. I love Dobby. I have thrown incredibly demanding jobs at it, that have run more than 100 threads for days on end. I've helped the lab + their extended (scientific) family) get access to Dobby, and routinely ssh in and see them running things. Single threaded performance is so good (how AMD?) that many of them prefer running their code remotely instead of on their laptops. And, we can all do this simultaneously. I have been using and managing Dobby for over half a year now. I feel comfortable giving it my highest recommendation when new students ask for help with research computing, as do I feel about Puget. I have just received my custom made B460i 14 inch Traverse Laptop. In two words "Top Shelf". 1. Watch John Bach's Video, everything stated is true and more. 2. I suppose I had looked at some 10 or more Companies shelf ready Ultra Books, and these are fine unless what you want is specific, and I was. I wanted not only a Haswell 4th Gen i7 with the integrated 5200 pro Iris GPU in a laptop... but I also wanted Samsung's Pro series 512 SSD, not RAID, not etc... and none of the major pre-built had these, or made some other complication. So I went looking for a custom builder, and there are several, I almost went with another builder (or so I thought) because I didn't know Puget existed at that moment... Here is what I found... Many other builders can build a custom desk top, and advertise they can build a custom Laptop, however when you can't be switched to a computer they can build, you suddenly are required to meet their standards of some kind, one sited the homeland security Act... at any rate I am very fortunate to have literally stumbled upon Puget as Puget has exceeded every expectation I had and even some of their own. ( this has the quietest fan... I can hardly hear it.) A. No outrageous something I had to provide, just what any normal over 2k purchase required. You think that should have been easy, so did I, give it a whirl . B. No Bull Crap Period. C. These are guys are Pro's, as they finished the build, I was able to log in and see day by day, sometimes by the hour... what was being pulled, ordered, available, who was installing what, testing, the test results, the burn results (I might have been able to assemble something that resemble's this computer in my static environment, with out breaking something... But if something was failing, or not running as it should I would have to have used the WTF method of elimination to find the problem child.) Puget put this computer through a major Burn in Run, sent me the results in images, and a complete copy in rebut-able CD format with my own CD copy of the OS, drivers on and on, Over and beyond.... 3. The computer arrived in perfect shape, and I even know who boxed it, as it arrived ahead of schedule before Christmas, a day before the early date by FEDEX. Bottom Line: You do not have to know exactly what you want to have a custom machine built, these guys don't presume, but will help if you want it, if you know what you want, you will appreciate these guys. I obviously got a lemon. The 17" laptop I purchased for something like $2600 continues to be a real annoyance. It first arrived with the RETURN key not working, the Bluetooth radio didn't work AT ALL, the WiFi radio was spotty, and when typing, I had to hit each key REALLY hard to make characters register on the screen (there seems to be about 1/16" tactile response to the keys). So basically, speed typing has been/is out of the question. It shouldn't take me 2 minutes to type an email that otherwise should take about 30 seconds on another machine. So many letters don't register. I've gotten around the problem by attaching an external keyboard to the laptop, but it shouldn't be this way. The touch pad is touchy too. First problem is that it's black against a black laptop case, and utterly flush, so in lowish lumens you have to hunt to find it. They need to put a white stripe around the pad -- or something -- to help visually define it. Then, the finger scroll on my laptop doesn't always work right. So I've had to attach a mouse to the laptop, something else I shouldn't have to do. I must say that Jon the owner and others at Puget are friendly, helpful and concerned about my laptop's performance. But in the end, a computer that actually works is what really counts. After returning the laptop for a replacement keyboard and the repair of the non-functioning Bluetooth/WiFi radios (their expense), I was still having problems. And now that I'm living in South America (the whole reason I bought this desktop replacement), returning the machine for more repairs is not a possibility. What confounds me the most is the Puget website, on which they tout all the "checks" that are performed before their machines are shipped to buyers. Obviously, my laptop must've taken a 5-mile detour around these quality-control measures. I'll never buy anything from Puget again. It was a huge mistake, and I am pretty upset. 9/28/13 read more

As an IT professional and occasional gamer, I can concretely say that Puget Systems is the best company that I have ever purchased a PC from. Their service is unprecedented and deserves full stars. They will walk you through the custom-build process and make apt suggestions based on the information you provide. Again, as a industry insider, I can tell that these guys really love tech, which is essential if you want practical, knowledgeable service. Their stock itself is extensive, and I never had to compromise if I was looking for some specific part. You get your shipment in incredibly safe packaging, so you don't have to worry about any screws coming loose in transit. They also send a literal "giant bag" of parts you may need down the line if you want to expand your system or add anything yourself. On top of that, you get a binder that details every aspect of your PC, from system specs to gaming benchmarks to photographs and bios of every employee that had a hand in crafting your computer. The best part about the binder is the thermal imagery of your system at rest and at load. Once you receive your order, you get the benefit of outstanding and unprecedented customer support. They should really call it something else, because Puget support doesn't suffer from a single frustration-educing trapping that so commonly comes with customer support. Their specialists are incredibly knowledgeable and aren't ever dismissive. It's been over a year since I purchased my gaming-dedicated desktop and they still email me about my system, they even walked me through fixing my machine after my Windows 10 upgrade went haywire. Puget Systems is number one when it comes to custom builds, and they outshine similar companies by a staggering margin. I would give more stars if I could. This review is 12 years late in coming. We bought an "expensive" desktop in 2004 and it served us well until 2012. Then we switched to a laptop. The service and information we got in 2004 to configure it was wonderful and I really liked the folks who helped us. An experience like no other! And I am a expert shopper with lots of knowledge about what a company should do to help their customers. So fast forward to now. I still remembered them. I called them up to investigate a new computer. Guess what. Nothing has changed. Their professionalism is still the same. Excellent customer service. Of course their online presence in better - did we even have websites then? Their website is as excellent as everything else. I wrote this because sometimes it is hard to believe that companies of this quality still exist. One secret for their success is "geeks". They are committed to absolute quality. If there was a 10 star rating, Puget Systems would have earned it. This company is AWESOME. As an "FPGA and Embedded Software Thug" as well as an ex Intel employee, I'm not easily impressed. I have built computational hot-rods myself and purchased systems from Dell, Apple and some dodgy company in the back streets of Shenzhen. Puget outperformed them all (even me). Puget Systems built a smallish(in size, not power) Serenity system for me that runs dead quietly and 3X faster than my previous "bleeding edge" hardware on SPICE and Verilog simulations. While not portable, I can easily bring this system on board long haul flights. I even ordered a custom case for it. During the build process, the Puget System's staff reports the status of your system including benchmark tests and photos. You can follow the progress on Puget's web site. I received a complete test report including a thermal camera image of my system under heavy load. What more could a girl ask for? (Swoon.) Thanks to everyone at Puget! This is the only company which I know of that you can buy a computer from that you can be sure will make everything work before you get it, and you won't even wish for a new computer for at least 3 years... and only then you might start planning your next puget computer. I have bought four computers from them in, I think, 12 years. I bought four computers for other rooms (kids) at Best Buy and Cosco, but have always regretted those within a year... or six months. This company, Puget, has been consistently knowledgeable, thorough in support, and so skilled, that my computers from them have NEVER been a regret. I have always purchase DELL for my Computer systems. December of 2019, I made a decision to purchase a new system complete for our small business. I did some research and found this company, Puget Computer Systems on the west coast. I called and had them put together a system "THEY" would recommend based on what my needs were. I also at that time requested the same with 2 other Computer Specialists. I made the decision for the Puget system after all recommendations come back. I might add that Puget was the most expensive of the 3 but also did the best in the "Pre-Sale" position they took with the explanation they gave me. I bought a custom rig for video editing and gaming a little over two years ago. For those two years it's been working like a dream for both of my needs. Two days ago it just stopped connecting to any monitor. About half an hour after reaching out to their support I was contacted by one of their amazing technicians. After about a day of back and forth troubleshooting they were able to help me fix this issue. The technician was extremely knowledgeable of computers and understanding. I wanted to build a computer for video and photoshop. Needed to be fast and have a lot of memory. I decided not to build it myself as I have done many times, and leave it to the pros. From my first interaction with William I knew he was very knowledgable and could guide me to get the best system possible, as he did. I was also impressed by their thoroughness and organization. Great custom built PC. Absolutely silent which is key as I use it for audio playback. Pre sales consultation was as it should be. The person actually thoughtfully listened to what my needs are (imagine that). Puget has a wonderful online tracking system where you can see every detail of your build from inventory status through installation, testing and shipping. PC was shipped in a box even UPS/Fedex could not destroy. PC comes with a wonderful information binder related to your specific build. They will even check up with you a few weeks later to make sure everything is running well. You will pay a little bit more but it's well worth it. Highly recommended. read more

Puget Systems is a group of currently practicing experts in the field of applied high performance computing. I shopped around with other vendors while developing an invoice with Puget, but no one came close. Puget Systems had Ph.D level computer scientists who had used exactly the software I wanted to run on my computer, took the time to explain the latest in hardware to me, and was able to provide me with a performance benchmark with that software on a configuration very similar to the one I ordered. This is just the first couple of hours working with the Spirit and it is going well, extremely fast and soooo quite.
