Brasilia is one of our favorite restaurants, and we make it a point to visit once or twice a year…read moreto celebrate birthdays and special occasions. The food is always delicious, and the red snapper is our absolute favorite. It never disappoints! What truly makes this restaurant special is the owner. He takes the time to sit with every table, making guests feel welcome and appreciated. He also shares a house drink that is absolutely delightful and adds a unique personal touch to the experience. If you're looking for amazing food and exceptional hospitality, Brasilia is a must-visit

A big disappointment when we first arrived. We had made a reservation for four at 7, but they…read moredidn't have any tables for us. So we were seated in their barroom in the corner, surrounded by all sorts of things that the restaurant had piled on other tables that were not put away in storage as yet., such as piles of paper napkins in their plastic wrappers that came from the restaurant store, and an unused griddle, and ledgers on another table. We were assured by the owner's wife that we would not be forgotten with the churrasco service. We weren't. That was good but we still felt uncomfortable as if we were imposing, to be seated where we were, as a complete afterthought despite making a reservation on their website a few days ago. The buffet: The sides were not replenished and a lot of them were quite dried out. Many empty platters. The churrasco service: Beef sausage was good, not overcooked. Spicy beef sausage was very good. Skirt steak was cold, charred and very dry. Beef bacon was dry. Picanha was cold, tough and dry. Lamb was tender and correctly seasoned. Pineapple was not even grilled. It was covered with a thin layer of cinnamon as if to simulate grilled char on it. It was very disappointing. Filet mignon was warm, somewhat tender, but extremely salty. It was already in small pieces and these scraps were seemed to have been hurriedly removed off the skewers and repositioned prior to serving us. The dessert table had many empty platters. Probably the best things that were left on there was the watermelon and a lonely mandarin orange that I rescued. The owner came by to ask us if we would join him in a glass of alcohol with passionfruit juice, but we declined, not because it wasn't good. From our memory when we were there before, that passionfruit drink that we had in the past on our last patronage at this restaurant, about a year ago, was spectacular. Be aware that Check comes with an added 20% gratuity tax on it. Will we ever return? You bet we won't, and we don't recommend it. It has gone beyond downhill.

This place wasn't even on my radar. My husband made a reservation for our anniversary and surprised…read moreme with this wonderful farm-to-table, Yucatán-inspired, James Beard nominated restaurant. Bri was our server and she was, hands-down, amazing! It's clear that she doesn't just care about providing good service, but she's passionate about the food as well. I love when you can just ask a server what they think about different options on the menu, they come back with a few questions, and they know exactly where to direct you. Bri's knowledge of the menu was impressive. We decided on several small plates in order to really explore what the chef wanted to share from his childhood home. Upon seating, we were offered a small bowl of Sikil Pak: a pepita-tomato-herb dip with house-made chips. We licked the bowl. (A larger portion can be purchased off the menu if you have better manners than us.) From there, Bri paced our dishes based on temperature, flavors, and our eating tempo; all just highlighting how well run this restaurant is and how much they care about both the taste and experience of the food. The Ceviche de Tomate was a red-snapper ceviche that was tasty and really highlighted by the smoked tomato water (my favorite part). The Cayo de Hacha en Mole Blanco was a dish my husband ordered and the one I was least excited about. But...it ended up being my favorite dish of the night. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the white chocolate mole was like nothing I've ever eaten. I would go back just for this dish! Next was the Tacos de Castiacan. The flavor of the pork belly was amazing, but my husband didn't prefer the extra crispness of the skin. It tasted great, though. Finally, we ended with Sope de Nopal Y Tomate which is a cactus dish served over a corn masa pillow. It was hearty and tasted like what I imagine the De Oca brothers' childhood must have tasted like; bright yet comforting. We also ordered a couple of cocktails which worked well worth the menu. I ordered the La Palabra Final which is a mezcal-based cocktail highlighted with notes of cherry and anise - a noteworthy flavor combination. My husband ordered the Margarita Del Diablo which has a chile-infused tequila and a smoked jalapeño liqueur it was smokey and spicy in all the right ways. I will say, the aesthetic of the decor is a bit on the simplistic side, however it doesn't deter from the food experience which is one of the top experiences we've had in the Lou to date.
