On my way home from work I was feeling hungry but I didn't know for what... I opened up my Yelp! app to help me make a decision. Puerto Viejo was the second on the list and decided that it would be my landing spot. The restaurant doesn't have much curb appeal but it serves up some really good food. The menu is extensive and I didn't know what/how I should've ordered. I saw on Yelp! that the Chifrijo (chicharron - fried pork belly, over a bed of rice and beans); so, I ordered that. I asked for a recommendation, and ordered a guacamole appetizer. The restaurant was mostly full, and all the dishes that came out looked pretty good, especially the ceviche. The have a soda fridge with Coke products and they serve fresh coffee too Today, I wasn't in the mood for rice and beans. So, I mostly just ate the chicharrón from the Chifrijo plate. Next time, depending on my mood, maybe I'll just order the chcharrón app. The guac was certainly made fresh to order. It was light yet tasty; definitely order again. The cherry on top for me was that everyone was a Spanish speaker, which allowed/forced me to use my Spanish! I was pleasantly surprised and I would definitely go back.

This was such a great find! It was the perfect hole-in-the-wall, and surprisingly cute and quaint. The food is authentic and hearty. Come hungry! I saw that everyone from the Yelp community was getting the chifrijo and I just couldn't resist trying it. Guys, it was so good! It's fried pork over rice and beans and avocado on top. It's listed as an appetizer but you could totally get it as an entree too and be full. Best of all, it was only $6. They also had larger plates all ranging from $10-13. And these large plates come with lots of options and lots of food! I also got the fajitas (being not so adventurous) but it definitely hit the spot. Lots of vegetables, and not too salty. The one thing was- the server didn't speak English. Though it made for a truly authentic experience, if your Spanish is limited or rusty like mine, it is challenging to communicate your order and needs. But don't let that stop you from enjoying scrumptious foods. It's just an opportunity to learn and experience more than what's on the table

Thief be aware they would up charge you for their food that is not that great! Menu on Yelp has this "Picada" for $11 I called & the owner said that was September of last year now they are charging $25 Stay away food is not tasty & prices plus customer service worst I have experienced

Absolutely fabulous place! I had this bookmarked on my phone for a couple of weeks. It's authentic Costa Rican food. I always wanted to try it. I ordered the guacamole while I waited for my food for take out. The guacamole was great, nice lime and pepper flavor. I ordered the tilapia a la plancha (which I think means grilled). It was so good and a great large portion. I will be back soon! Tip: they only speak Spanish, wasn't a problem for me but just a heads up.

Stopped in for a quick dinner and it was exactly what I was looking for, rice, beans, salad and fish with a side of plantains. Everything was nicely cooked and properly seasoned. It reminded me of afternoons in Costa Rica.

So I never thought I would find a Costa Rican restaurant in the states that would make you feel as if you were right back in there country. This is my first Costa Rican restaurant outside of there country and I must say they impressed me! My husband and I had the "Chifrijo" to start off and it was AMAZING, I literally can't stop thinking about it. We went on to have the steak and chicken "Casado" which was also good. I definitely would come back to try there other dishes because I'm pretty sure they won't disappoint. Our server was very friendly and she must of picked up that my husband was from Costa Rica and offered him something that I didn't even see on the menu, a "mango en bolsa" and his eyes just lit up. It's a fresh sliced mango put in a plastic bag and they top it off with salt, salsa lizano and lime. It reminded him of being back home. It's a far way from where we live but I can't wait to go back!!

Absolutely delicious, authentic and fresh Costa Rican food! Came here for dinner with my boyfriend (who grew up in Costa Rica) and even he was impressed with the authenticity and quality of the food. We opted for chifrijo for an appetizer, my absolute favorite. The beans were so soft and flavorful, and the chimmichurri exploded with flavor in my mouth. I could eat this dish by the bucketful if they would let me! For dinner I had bistec con cebollas which came with rice, black beans (soooo good!) and yuca. My boyfriend had a specialty dish that had pork, rice, beans, potatoes that had a delectable light sauce and seasoning on it, and tasty plantains. What I loved about this place was how authentic the food was, how fresh the food tasted, and the portion to price ratio! For our two entrees, appetizer and each one of us having a fruit smoothie the bill was only $40! What I wasn't crazy about was how jam packed the place was, there was literally only 8 tables in the restaurant, and about 10 parking spaces for the whole strip mall (two other stores are next to it). There is a nail salon next door so every now and then we got wafted with the strong scent of nail polish remover. Overall though this place was absolutely amazing, I will definitely be back and will certainly be ordering take out from here!

Loved their foods. Very cute and friendly restaurant. Everybody speaks Spanish there. Nice music made me feel like we were in Costa Rica. Everything we ate was delicious. We would like to try more from their menu.

I get the chifrijo and that is my favorite dish. The service is quick. The place is usually busy during lunch hour.

I enjoyed the food. We had the beef sandwich, guacamole, fish, tacos, and chifrijo. The chifrijo was our favorite.

The restaurant was laid out with tables to the right & left, a coffee/juice bar and a bakery section in the back. Since my Spanish is nil, I believe who was one of the owners helped us choose our meal. Peruvian Beef Stir fry with rice and fries & Pueblo Style fillet of fish (tilapia) I had plantains & black beans as sides. Both were portions for two people & absolutely delicious. I had a tamarind drink and my friend had a Batido Mango (made with milk) The staff were all sweet and helpful. We got to-go bags. The prices were very reasonable for what we got. After we paid the check we were given caramelo flan ~ we said we would never finish it - well we did! Pretty much licked the plate. Can't wait to go back! And since I watch Celtic, premier, euro soccer, have found a new place that opens early! Soccer was playing on the screens while there! Another plus. Definitely check this place out, they have traditional Costa Rican, Peruvian and Salvadoran dishes - just to name a few!!!
