We would occasionally go here to get the 8-piece fried chicken; it was usually good, but not always. However, for the last three times, all in 2024... The boxes had less than 8 pieces. okay, so, i bought 2.5#'s ground chuck yesterday september 30 23. was not supposed to expire until 9 02 23. left in bag pulled out of fridge. and all of it was ruined. the bottom looked worse than the top. like it had turned and they put grey meat on bottom, showing it was still good with red on top. this pack was $23. i live alone, i work, i can barely afford food. i dont get food stamps. it was supposed to feed me for two weeks. publix is like an expensive wal mart. should have taken a picture and sent it to health department. or pull it apart in the store. read more

In the past I enjoyed going to Decatur's Publix but lately checking out is becoming self service only. They never have more than one person checking people out while customers are lined up the length of the store. They have gotten to the point that they are on better than Wal-Mart. read more

Living in San Francisco and being a co-owner of Rainbow Grocery, I'm just a tad spoiled. Okay, I'm spoiled rotten. We have the most amazing selection of organic produce, bulk items, kambucha..but here I am in Decatur, Alabama, far away from my oasis,wondering where the hell I can find some of the things I like to eat without seeming snobbish. Publix is not Rainbow but it is a huge improvement over Walmart or the little Shop n' Git markets dotting the countryside. They actually have BROWN RICE SUSHI!! I was in heaven when I saw this. And the sushi maker, I thing his name is Mung, always looks so thankful when someone picks up one of his creations. My fave is the salmon sushi..could eat that morning, noon or night. There's an incredible calamari salad and they have seaweed salad to boot! There's only a small piddling of organic produce..right now the fruit section is a bit bare. They do have micro greens in a bag..wow! So some people actually eat something else than iceberg lettuce? I found a comparable Greek yougurt but alas, no kombucha. They have a pretty good Cuban Sandwiich using Boar's Head meats and their fried chicken in the deli is fair. The staff is VERY friendly and helpful although I hate the over-bagging that occurs on checking out. (No, I don't need a plastic bag for my granola bar)..Prices are reasonable..it's a relief to find a decent grocery store in my travels.. read more

I just picked up 20 chicken wings from the deli, should've taken them back , they were like rubber , obviously they been sitting for quite awhile under the lamp, they have a date on the sticker ,but no time when they where cooked, I like shopping there but next time I'll get my wings somewhere else. read more

First off, Publix offers great buy one get one free offers every week. You don't have to buy two to get the discount, just one and it will be half off. With coupons you can get a steal on some items. Just so you know, the ads run from Wednesday to Tuesday. They offer a mystery item for a penny with the coupon from the local paper on Sunday and Monday with a ten dollar purchase. Those can be good sometimes. They double all coupons up to 50 cents. They have the best ground beef around. It doesn't stink as bad when you cook it as Lucky's beef. I wash all my cooked ground beef (like for tacos) before seasoning anyways. They actually carry the cut of meat used to make the German dish Ruladen. None of the other chains, Piggly Wiggly, or Kroger, do. You can actually get them to cut you meat. That's nice. They have a decent bakery. They do use too many unnatural things in their baked goods though. Look at the label. A loaf of wheat bread should only have a few ingredients, I know, I make my own at times. They use preservatives, dyes, and high fructose corn syrup a lot in their items. A lot of items are shipped in frozen then cooked. So it's not actually made fresh. I ordered some petit fours one time and you could tell they were premade. Very disappointing. I would rather make my cakes from scratch as well. Their cakes taste like every other mix out there. Nothing natural or good about it. The fried chicken from the deli is good. The deli meats are nice but rarely on sale. The specialty cheeses are rarely on sale either. The veggies are usually clean and of good quality. They have a decent organic section for the area. The potatoes are always high here for some reason. They are cheaper at Aldi or Kroger. There frozen veggie department is about average. They have a good natural foods frozen section, it just is never on sale, so I can't shop it often. I shop Kroger's for my natural frozen foods. They have Cabot cheese which I adore. They also have a great dairy section. Overall, like all stores they are good for somethings and worse at others. I usually shop for the sales there. read more

This store has amazing customer service! In particular I wanted to give a shout out to Chris at the Beltline store for saving my Christmas dinner. After receiving a frozen turkey on Christmas Eve for my holiday dinner, I called the store and complained since it was supposed to be a fully cooked and thawed turkey ready to serve the next day. Chris went out of his way to make things right and even delivered another turkey from the other Publix when their store did not have any. This will continue to be my store of choice. read more

Bakery staff, deli staff, grocery staff all wonderful but the meat and the service desk, not so much. I really enjoy Publix but this one seems to be struggling with customer service. read more

Usually love to go to Publix but just got home after buying some ground chuck and noticed that part of the meat was red on the outside and dark in the middle. Have to suspect they are mixing old with new. Disappointed. read more

I was running late for work this morning, but had to stop and pick up a few items. Today is my 9 month-old's day care worker's Birthday. I got a beautiful orchid and a variety of sweets from the bakery to give to her. While picking up the bakery box at check out, I dropped the box and the cakes wen't every where. The cashier was very nice and didn't make me buy them. Once in the parking lot, I placed the orchid on the trunk of my car while I buckled my daughter into her car seat. I was already frustrated about dropping the bakery box and then the orchid fell off the trunk and onto the pavement. I couldn't believe it, this obvisouly wasn't going to be my day! Then the General Manager walked up to and asked if the plant wsa ok, it wasn't. I told him it was fine and I was running late for work. He looked at the plant and said that he wanted to replace it for me and to wait right there. He was gone maybe a minute or two and came right back with a new orcid. Neither the Cashier or the General Manage had to do what they did, but they both went above and beyond this morning. Publix in Decatur, AL has some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. read more
