Once you…read moreexperience a Publix supermarket yourself, I am confident that you will understand how Publix has become such an iconic supermarket brand and has developed such a loyal customer base down here in the southeastern part of the United States. This particular Publix is just off of Interstate 65 in Decatur, Alabama. The staff was friendly and the store is nicely laid out and has a pleasant ambiance which makes shopping all the better. Publix has created a solid reputation by offering incredible customer service, great BOGO (buy one, get one free) deals, and no review of Publix would be complete without mentioning their subs, which are affectionately known as "Pub Subs." Coming from New Jersey, a state known for their great subs, in a way, it hurts me to state that a supermarket has some of the best subs in the area. But it is also a 100% true statement. Publix subs are very good. My go-to sub is probably their Italian sub, which is truly a tasty offering. I also enjoy their roast beef and cheese sub. I would definitely recommend upgrading it by using Boar's Head meat. It is definitely worth the small upcharge. It is great to see Publix expanding beyond the boundaries of their home state of Florida and spreading throughout the southeast. I would definitely recommend this particular Publix location.

I don't get it... the chicken is barely OK, it is nothing special. Even so, I went to this store to get two 8-piece boxes of fried chicken. They only had one box ready... it was 4 pm. They usually have a 2 or 3 boxes sitting around until 7 or 8 pm. Anyway, someone grabbed that last box and one of the employees asked what I was looking for. I told her and she said it would be about 15 minutes. She took my name and said that the first two would be mine (they do this all the time for people; I've seen it happen many times). Anyway, I collect a few other things and I'm back in about 7 minutes... so, there I wait... the chicken comes up and I ask about the two boxes; the exact same clerk snaps at me, "you have to wait your turn". I calmly and politely said, I waited my turn and you told me I'd get the first two boxes out of this batch. She forgot... at first, she wouldn't admit it, but after she gave out the few boxes, she seemed to remember. They made some more chicken... and we played the same game.... the first two boxes would be mine. I didn't leave the area. I waited almost a half hour this time. During my wait, this clerk's family or friends appeared... they were having a conversation that made it clear that she was related to them. The chicken came out and she gave it all to them. Again, I asked what about my "order". She just said, "we're done making fried chicken for the night, we don't cook any more after 5pm". So, I spent over an hour in that store waiting for nothing... other to be treated like garbage by an employee. The other Publix is too far away and my wife was calling me to tell me everyone is hungry.... heck, it was only 5:20 pm... way too early to eat for me. Anyway, we got pizza instead. And I'll never go back to this store ever again. I hadn't been here in about a year... the last time I was treated like garbage too.

La Estrella Food and Fish Market - Very, very nice produce area. One of the top two in Decatur, if not THE top.

Our eyes popped, mouths fell agape, and rumors of fainting abounded. The overall shopper's experience here is the best in Decatur. Among the Pan Dulces (Conchas, Ojo de Buyes, and such), we espied something similar enough to Chocolate-covered Doughnuts to make us kill for it. But we had a bag of goodies we'd already purchased and somehow staved ourselves off. Formerly at 6th Avenue, LEF&FM is a must visit. Oddly, four of the other Supermercados are within walking distance and thus in direct competition, a move seemingly both unwarranted and unwise, unless a concentrated Hispanic population in the immediate area ensures their collective viability. I can't say. The first items you'll notice as you walk in are the greens and such in the well-stocked and eye-catching produce area, and the atmosphere was well ratcheted up in our estimation due to the fact that the employees were all friendly. LEF&FM had a wonderful dairy department, stocked with Queso this, Quesillo that, Quesadillo these, and Crema those. Some cheeses had Jalapeno, others, Loroco, which is evidently a flower bud of Central American origin. The popular Cotija Molido, which is merely grated Cotija, was also evident. It's one of the crumbly cheese you'll see in Mexican food...in fact, I believe it's one of the ones of which you might say, "Why doesn't it melt?" In addition to the bakery and dairy areas, the display of "soda pops" (to import a term) and such was better than average. Yes, they have Jarritos, but also have Foco, Boing!, Tiky, and several others, some of which are actually Asian in origin, rather than Mexican or South American. We are already talking about returning here...and that's a thirty-plus-minute trip. And we won't come back empty handed. Possibly in a sugary haze, but not empty handed.

The only reason we didn't buy these is that we'd already eaten elsewhere AND bought elsewhere.

I hope the post I seen goes so viral that it attracts the attention of the local media and then some, I've had bad experience with the cashiers my self who act as if the job they have makes them better than the customers they serve and I got news for those self absorbed jerks what goes around comes around.
