Food is worthy of 5 stars, but the service brings it down. Our server's name was Jason, and while he was very friendly and accommodating, he was too chatty with other costumers, and we waited about 15 minutes to order. Somethings not right, new menu is very limited with out a choice of vegetables only Zucchini yuck. Main come with one side and a added side of zucchini is $7. Crazy. At least Armada is still here and the beer is cold I'm told they are adding items to the menu but the chef is from another restaurant that wasn't know for greatest food or reasonable prices. Why would you take the Bibb salad off the menu and the chicken? Strange will need to rethink this place which is a shame I've been coming here since it opened. Prices are higher and choices are more limited. How this works for them, because it doesn't for me. read more

Fireplace area is really cool if you just want to grab a drink for a date or something. The menu is great, my kind of food. This appeared to me like a sext date-20-40 something type place. Been wanting to go here for a while so glad we did! Got there Friday night 25 minute wait.. Not a problem when they have an amazing for place with cushy seating! We were seated quickly and everything was delish. Started with garlic shrimp perfect with toast to dip in yummy sauce. Went for the scallops with risotto so delish. Hubby has the short ribs even more delish. Finished off with the cheesecake omg beyond! We also got the brownie, nothing compared to cheesecake! I came here on a Monday evening for dinner with some coworkers. I had called earlier in the day to make a reservation, but was told they don't take reservations but we wouldn't have a problem being seated around 5:30. There is plenty of parking in the lot behind the building, and we were seated immediately upon arrival. The restaurant is small, but it's wonderfully decorated, with a pretty fireplace in the back. The bar is small, but there were seats available. It's a very cozy place, not at all what you would expect from the outside. I was also pleasantly surprised with the beautiful bathroom, in particular the sink (I want one just like it in my own home!) Our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. We weren't drinking, but the food was amazing. The menu is on the smaller side, but everything sounded delicious. There were a few specials, as well. We received a bread basket, which I always welcome :) We ordered a few appetizers (garlic shrimp, jumbo lump crab cake and crispy calamari salad). Everyone loved everything. I only tried the crispy calamari salad, but it was really different and delicious. The calamari was crispy, as promised, and well done. The salad was very flavorful, and huge - definitely could be an entree on its own. For my meal, I just had the Caesar salad, with a side of macaroni and cheese. I'm simple, but these items were very well done - the salad was light and the dressing tasty, but it was enough to be filling. The macaroni and cheese was great - I would definitely order it again. My coworkers ordered a variety of items (crispy chicken, fish and chips, shepard's pie, Dillon's burger, and baby greens salad with scallops) and everyone really liked everything - rave reviews from all. We also had dessert - I don't recall exactly what was ordered by everyone, but I chose an Oreo cheesecake that was to die for. I am so happy I finally tried this place - I will definitely return. Steamed Broccoli on an Buratta Appetizer that touts Broccoli Rabe and Roasted Red Peppers with a balsamic reduction....If that left my kitchen I would fall on my own knife A medium Burger that arrived 30 minutes after the aps were cleared that was Black and Blue. Truffle fries which are retreads of the normal fries drizzled with truffle oil(too much), some salt and Parmesan. The Tart and the Oysters were good...the meatballs were dragged down by a pedestrian and watery sauce component... The food is lacking and over priced...and the kitchen has no guidance. The menu is confusing and tap dances around but never lands a solid step. I want to like this place...as I said "Its too cool of a place to not want to like eating here." unfortunately the food does not fit the room. If you live in the Jersey suburbs and you want to get a nice drink and have some nice food in a nice but still mildly casual type of place, you don't have that many options. This place fills a real need that you just don't find enough of. Is the food here overpriced? Yes, probably a little. Is the food here amazing? No, it's generally very good. Some things are just regular good, some things are great, but most things here are done pretty well without trying to win any awards. It's still a "pub" in that sense. Is the crowd really cool? No but it's almost universally a respectable crowd talking and not shouting, and you get lots of low-40s local moms looking more or less their best. Do the bartenders make amazing cocktails? No but they're generally friendly and knowledgable. Stick with the beer here anyway. it's a solid selection and there's usually one or two new ones on tap every time you come in. Is the decor great? Actually this is a yes. The bar, the fireplace, and the other seating areas are money. If this place was in New York City, nobody would ever go and nobody would try and open it. But this place is in Westfield North, and when you put together very good food with a nice crowd and nice decor and good beer and good lookin moms then guess what, you got 5-stars from Chee. Had a late Saturday night dinner her, after yelping the area which is exactly half way between me and a friend's house, so we met at Publick House. It was pretty busy at 9pm when we arrived, but we still got a nice table. Got the garlic shrimp appetizer (large garlic shrimp w/ crostini bread... Yum!) . Also got an excellent Caesar salad, and for entrees we had fish 'n chips and the diver scallops... And a few drinks. Everything was prepared well, and our server, Mike, was excellent. This place is great, but a bit more upscale and pricy than a more traditional Iris pub. read more

Server started good but then forget about us he walked like 5 time around our table and never check on us after we got our food.. My little girls and I were thirsty we had to ask manager .. Manager said he will talk to server,, we waited another 5 minutes and it took like 8 minutes for us to get drinks.. Very disgusting with service that server Joe provided .. Never going back ... Publick House is a great choice! It has a great ambiance and not pretentious. The food is great! I had the short ribs and they were delicious! We sat at the bar initially while we waited for a drink. My husband accidentally spilled his wine on way to our table and they replaced it free of charge. We also had the shrimp for appetizer- delicious! The truffle fries are to die for! Let's not forget the Brussels - I'd go just to eat their Brussel Sprouts! One last recommendation- my cocktail was awesome - it had sat and pepper rim with a jalapeño infused alcohol I can't remember exactly the name but it also had cucumber and was the best! The drink and wine offering is fairly decent. I had the fried chicken dish which was delicious but portion size left me wanting more. My coworker had the shrimp tacos which he said was great (I have shellfish allergy so I can't confirm lol). After we ordered chili wings which where great. This place is insanely delicious! The craft cocktail menu, food menu, and decor/vibe make it a really awesome place for a date or night out with friends. I had the charred cedar Manhattan last night and it was perfect. I could have drank them all night. I mean, it would have been a bad idea since I had to drive so I only had one. I had the scallops for dinner, served over corn, thick cut chunks of bacon, avocado, and roasted red peppers. I'm always hopeful when I order scallops but know that over or under cooked scallops are a real possibility. That was certainly not the case here. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the corn mixture was just fresh and light. I was content after the meal but not miserably full. I finished everything on my plate which is pretty rare for me. Bonus: the smokey bacon with the charred cedar Manhattan made everything extra awesome. My friend had the chicken and subbed asparagus for the truffle fries. The truffle fries were possibly the best I've had. If it wasn't 9am I would consider getting some right now. We had stopped in once a few months ago for drinks and I wasn't entirely sold, I don't remember what I had, only that I really didn't like it. But, we tried it again for dinner last night, and I can't wait to go back. We weren't starving, so we split an appetizer and a main course, and each had drinks. The appetizer was delicious and generously-sized. The drink I ordered, which was praised by our waiter, was really good. And I cannot rave enough about the main course. It was very good. The entire experience was great. I liked the 80s New Wave playlist going on. The crowd was low-key. Overall, a very good experience and I can't wait to be back. read more

Consistently good, friendly, helpful (not overbearing) staff, and perhaps the most flavorful, meltingly delicious corned beef I've ever had in my life. And this is from a guy that has never liked corned beef. Serves late (bar menu). Smaller space, so it can get a bit loud, and they should ratchet up the lighting for those of us with less than stellar eyesight, but a new favorite I'll be returning to many times. read more

My only complaints are: 1) a bit pricey; and 2) very noisy. This place draws a crowd, and it's usually not conducive to intimate conversation! It's pretty small, too, so it can feel cramped. Went to Publick House for the fourth time last night and I couldn't believe I hadn't reviewed it yet! This place...friendly and fast staff, very good cocktails (albeit on the strong side), cozy atmosphere and most importantly--a solid kitchen staff with consistent, high quality and delicious appetizers and entrees that easily top area restaurants (Westfield take note) and could rival those in Montclair. I've been living in Scotch Plains for three years and have been searching for solid restaurants -- the list is short my friends. Now go, eat and enjoy. This was my second time at Publick House. The inside decor is modern and inviting with a great fireplace. Both times I tried to order the Cedar Manhattan and they were out so I settled on a beer. I had the Publick House burger and it was absolutely fantastic but we ordered the Brussels sprouts that were just average. Many of the items including the drinks are a overpriced in my opinion but overall a good place for a night out. read more

The food is really delicious and inventive (without being too "out there"). The atmosphere is really nice and I would call it upscale comfortable. Great beer selection too and reasonably priced menu overall. I think we'll make this one of our regular go-to restaurants in the area. My only suggestion is that the service improves in it's attention to detail. We had to wait for everything - extra spoon, water, soda refill. The wait staff was nice enough but it wasn't busy and they weren't paying attention to the customers which led to the waiting. We'll be back but hopefully the servers are more focused. read more

Not my cup of tea. The menu is quite small. I had a hard time finding something I was in the mood for. My husband's medium well burger was well, dry and burnt. They also do not have American cheese, my husband was forced to get fresh mozzarella on his burger. I've had a better burger at Smash burger. The only good thing I can say was the wings were really good and that's what the 1 star is for. I will not be back, the bill was $75 for 2 adults and 2 kids no alcohol.
