PUBLIC STORAGE 3601 W Blue Heron BLVD , Riviera Beach PUBLIC WARNING / REVIEW THEFT INSIDE THE STORAGE - BE CAREFUL! I'm leaving this warning for anyone considering renting a unit at this Public Storage in [insert location or address here, e.g., West Palm Beach, Florida]. Today I went to pick up my boat and discovered that I was the victim of a major theft inside this storage facility, a place that's supposed to be safe and monitored by security cameras 24/7. Stolen items: (2) Marine batteries - $400 (1) Rockville marine amplifier - $280 (4) Kicker Marine bar speakers - $1,600 (2) Kicker 6" speakers - $250 (5) Life jackets (1) Battery jumper - $90 (2) Lock keys (wheel and trailer locks) Total estimated loss: over $2,600. What's most outrageous is the attitude of the staff -- extremely rude, cold, and indifferent, showing no willingness to help at all. Not a single employee came to inspect the scene, even after I asked multiple times. It honestly feels like they're already used to these thefts -- or worse, they know exactly what's going on and choose to ignore it. I spoke with several other customers while I was there, and everyone confirmed that thefts are common at this location. This means there's a serious and ongoing security problem, and the management does absolutely nothing to protect customers. The storage company immediately denied any responsibility, saying they won't pay for the damages -- even though the theft happened inside their facility, which is supposed to be covered with cameras that "mysteriously" never record anything. This is unacceptable and shows a huge failure in security and management. It feels like a complete scam: you pay a high price for a "secure" storage space, trust your property there, and later find out that robberies happen often and no one is held accountable. My warning to everyone: Before renting here, go visit the location and look around the back area. Talk to other renters -- many will confirm that thefts happen all the time. The staff at this location are outstanding, the company on the other hand is predatory. Became a client when during an emergency and was/ and have been very happy with the staff at the location and its cleanliness. After a year they raised the rate by a reasonable $3 and that was understandable. Many months later I got a notice that the rate on the unit would just about double. While I'm working overseas and don't have access to good internet, phone or the ability to move, so it took me a bit to finally be back to Florida and go to the location. Just to find out that the staff has no access to accounting, pricing or anything useful. They were more then happy to let me use the phone and contact the corporate office. This actually became battle using three phones for about 30 mins to get a human on the phone from corporate. Their phone systems is frustrating and seems to intentionally make it impossible to talk to a human. The lady we got on the phone looked up the information and agreed that the rate increase was large and that if I didn't like it I was free to move out, they stand by the increase and the service is only monthly. She stated that that is the new rate nationally for that unit. She was extremely very rude and dismissive from the start. Staff sent a message to the area manager to contact me, but that never happened. They have the same unit on the website for the original starting price. This company is a fraud, just want to get you in the door and your stuff in a position to be difficult to move. Then they start pushing up the rate while you have no option but to stay. In my opinion its predatory and should be criminal. I've found a new unit for less at a competitor and hope to build a good relationship far from Public Storage. Will also be filing a complaint with the BBB Update; Wow, I had no idea how deep this rabbit hole was. This place is just out for your money. They raise your rent like crazy. I spent over 3 grand on this storage unit in a year and a half span. When I called to see if I can get the month prorated since my stuff will be out the first week of the upcoming month, they said that they don't prorate. So I now have to pay for a full month of a storage unit that I will not be using. When I called corporate to see if maybe they could do something, they just apologized and said there is nothing they can do. You would think during times like these with COVID-19 and people struggling financially that they would be more considerate. My locks will be on that unit until the last day of the month even after I move my stuff out. They aren't getting money from me and someone else at the same time for that unit.
