I have been with this Public Storage location for a few years now ,and my experience with them has always been really ,really good. Kelly has always been a pleasure to deal with ,and Cassandra is so nice. It's almost like a social event when I make a trip to add or remove from my unit! I've been to many storage facilities, and this Public Storage in Sunnyvale is by far the best. Staff is friendly, the place is clean, they patrol it, they have no pests, except maybe same cute crickets, they have a clean bathroom available 24/7 (always clean!!) & the gate always works. The customers seem normal, working people or parents w/too many toys. In other facilities, the customers seem sometimes the crowd that the Walmart greeters left out of the store. Even within the same chain, I've seen it all:bugs, leaks, scary dark, musty buildings, you name it! This location is very well taken care of. Now (September 2014) the huge construction makes things a zoo during the week, but it should be done soon. The area is very expensive for self-storage, but you need it to be Sunnyvale, this place is hands down the best! read more

If you're planning on using this storage space for anything more than a few months, I would stay away. The rate hikes are ridiculous in both the amount of each hike, and how often you get hiked. I'm easily paying double now of when I started (and I did NOT start with a promo rate). I guess someone has to pay for the new building. Which is what I am doing, except that I am in the old run-down unit without lighting, so I don't get the benefit of the new building. Realistically, the facilities are pretty much what you'd expect in a storage place. Just someplace to put your stuff. (Yes, I am finally looking at moving my stuff. It got to the point where the amount more I am paying will finally make it worth it to hire someone to move the 10x15' unit to a cheaper place.) read more

This public storage is a joke! Don't store your stuff here. They don't have cameras and orange door insurance is a scam. They won't pay you if your property is stolen. Not even with a police report. Don't store your valuables in any public storage. The insurance Rep Devin is also a joke. read more

She is a great example of what customer service should be: Attentive to your needs(not their sales/quota goals), knowledgeable about their service, flexible, and delivers it in an easy, friendly manner which is much appreciated. My sisters' and I are moving to rent a room in my ex-brother-in-law's house and we had to place in storage our belongings from our three bedroom rental townhouse. I signed up for a unit for $250 a month several years ago, and was told the price is reviewed after a year but just six months later they "reviewed" it and raised the price by $50. :( I would not have put my goods here if I knew that was going to happen. I complained to management and escalation but the response was that their contract allows then to raise prices like that whenever they want. I've been there for five years and the rent I pay for that same unit is now more than twice as much as the original price. The hours for access are absurdly constrained. Auto payment automatically stops if there's any kind of change making it possible if you're away on a trip to miss a couple months and they would claim and sell off your storage. I don't feel like they are trying to be of service but more set up to take advantage of long time customers. Probably fine for short stays. read more

If you're looking to store some stuff at Public Storage, then don't. Just don't do it. However, my gripe is not with this particular Public Storage facility as it looks fairly well-kept and maintained, but more with the company as a whole. I only needed to store some stuff for about a week and the $1 promotion at Public Storage seemed perfect. Then there's the first-time $22 fee. Then the required $11 insurance. Then an additional $13 charge for a cylinder lock that you HAVE to use even if you have your own padlock. Then there's the Indian sales guy that will explain everything and might seem friendly at first but then starts getting pushy and is only interested if you're paying in cash or credit. I think his name started with an "M", but this guy would stand there with his hand outstretched for a whole minute to grab your credit card after you fished it out of your wallet. By the end the total bill came out to over $50 EVEN WITH the first month being only $1. So I said "forget it, cancel the whole thing" and walked out. Next day, I get a call saying they have storage units that can accommodate my padlock if I would just come back. Are you serious? I've learned since that PS raises their rent price yearly and requires a 100% insurance sell from their employees (that goes directly into the Big Boss pocket) or else they get fired which really puts things into perspective. Instead, I went with a local storage unit that has a lower rate, offers (not demands) insurance, encourages you to bring your own lock, and in 5 years has only raised the rent once to keep up with the times. In the end, it cost me $23 and a pro-rated day or two if I so choose. Now that's what I'm talking about. read more

Upon checking in, you are forced to buy one of their overpriced locks as well as a storage unit insurance !!! You don't even have a choice to turn the insurance down. They tell you that your belongings are not covered by your homeowner's insurance, which is not true (confirmed by insurance agent). We 'moved-in' today, we're 'moving out' tonight. read more

Toward the end of my lease, I was expecting to renew for another year, but my roommates suddenly decided they didn't want to renew. I was stuck having to find a place to store my furniture and other belongings that I couldn't fit into the apartment I found. Since that apartment was a short lease I didn't want to get rid of things too quickly. Luckily this Public Storage had an available unit that I could move into a few days before my lease ended! Kelly was very helpful setting me up with all the necessary paperwork and explaining how everything works at Public Storage. I really liked the gated access and the amount of space around the drive up unit that I had. After 5 months, I moved out today after moving to a more permanent residence. I had a 12x12 unit because I had a lot of furniture. The only negatives I would list would be that the rent went up in March for that unit and sometimes the 9pm closing time was inconvenient if I was working late and couldn't move things in or out. Other than that, great facility, helpful staff, and overall great storage experience! read more

They are really pushy and looks like the company policy in general has gotten the best of customer service. This is not the public storage that we've known a while ago. We have other storage units which are by local owners and the policies and cost is very reasonable. Public storage has become worse. They can't wait to get all the money upfront as soon as you show up. It's like a money hungry Tasmanian devil ! Many of the reviews that we read here are too and we experienced it first hand how pushy they're and try to extract every single penny they can. Upselling their locks, pushing to purchase their overpriced moving supplies (compare home depot for the same supplies and you'll know what we're talking about). And insurance, jeez. We pay less than $300 for a renters insurance for 3 bedroom apartment for over $50,000 personal coverage and $100,000 unit coverage. These guys sell $5000 coverage for $180/year. That's like 1000% high!!! And I don't know how many people really care about wanting insurance for their units. Anyways, beware when you see a unit price online, you add another $12-$15 in insurance and other fees etc., We've been storing our supplies in a independently owned storage for several years now, and they've raised like $5-$10 in like 6 years. That's really Karma. When people know they do a good job, yet don't get greedy all of a sudden and gouge you whole. We also see some good hearted restaurant people also running this way, where they simply don't ridiculously jack up prices once they know their customers love them.
