I attempted to reserve a storage unit online. First, the person assumed I was a man from my name…read moreand told me the lady (me) couldn't pick up the keys. Second, when I came to pick up the keys, I was told my lease hadn't been signed online even thought it had. Then, once I re-signed the lease (the person working there pushed all the buttons so I have no idea whether what he agreed to was what I had agreed to online) I was given keys and a lock and told all I had to do was make sure my code worked in the garage door, which it did. I returned about 2 hours later, after their business hours (which are only until 5, so good luck if you work a 9-5 and then need help) to put furniture into the storage unit. We had to unload outside the garage in the rain because the truck they rent out was blocking one of the elevators and someone unloading stuff who was apparently upstairs at their unit left their car in front of the other one. We unloaded, took a large couch up and found that the yellow dummy lock that was to be removed before we could move in never was. Thus we had to carry the couch BACK downstairs after trying without help to talk to "Customer Service" who didn't even know what I was talking about when I mentioned the yellow placeholder lock. In summary, don't do it. There's a Public Storage and U-Haul storage facility literally a stone's throw from this place where you'll get much better service. Still awaiting my refund that may have been charged twice since I had to fill out the lease twice.

(This was done to an entire group of storage areas.) This meant moving some of my stored and neatly arranged items out of the storage area while they were working and then moving them back into the storage area wherever they fit as some of the space was taken up by the new door. I was only called after it was all done to get a key for another lock. I questioned whether there could have been theft or items broken during this remodel. The owner didn't care. I asked why I wasn't notified about what they were going to do. He said they had the right to do the remodel without my knowledge. Another time they didn't have a digital copy of my rent agreement so they locked me out of my storage area until they got a digital agreement signed from me, even though I was paid up and had the hard copy I originally signed. I also second all reviews about frequent and 10% + rent increases. Oh and don't forget to give them a timely copy of your rental insurance agreement each year as they will slap a fee on for insurance without any second warning. This is not a criticism of the staff which I didn't have any problems with. In summary, you and your possessions are beholden to storage areas, who can raise rents and do whatever they want. They more or less hold your precious possessions for ransom.

BURGLARY PROBLEMS!!! In January, my storage unit was the FOURTH break-in within a one month…read moreperiod. Yes, FOUR burglaries in ONE month. All the burglarized units are located in the building in the very back of the facility. I made a report with the Maplewood Police and the officer mentioned the other units that had been burglarized also. The owners of Acorn storage did not put any video cameras INSIDE this particular building. All they have is cameras outside that building. Therefore the thieves can break in to as many units as they want and they know they won't be caught in the act on camera. The policeman said thieves are well aware which areas don't have cameras-- and those are the units that are targeted. So disregard all the website marketing that says Acorn is a safe place for your belongings since they have cameras. A camera pointed outside the facility is useless. Acorn also says your things are safe because every person that enters the facility must punch in their own identifying code. Well that did not stop these thieves from stealing from FOUR units. Even though there is a clear record of the suspects punching in their codes after hours, there is no video of them breaking into any of the units (Because there are NO cameras inside this building), so the code punching is useless. The thieves punched in after hours, and then had all the time in the world to go through every single tub, bin and box looking for things to steal. They ransacked my unit. Anything they didn't want, they threw haphazardly back into the unit. There are piles of my academic papers, drawings and notes tossed from the bins on to the floor. It will cost me a few hundred dollars to fly back to MN, get a hotel and car, to clean up this mess. All because Acorn doesn't have cameras inside that building. My advice is, find another storage facility that cares enough about your belongings to put cameras inside the building.

Simply Self Storage had great pricing online and was giving a 'first month free' discount. We ended up renting a 10x10 space for about 5 months and were very pleased. Access was easy, but secure. No, there isn't 24x7 gate access, but I didn't have a reason ever to be there between 10p and 6a. I never felt that I or my belongings were unsafe. It is busier here on weekends, but if you come earlier or later in the day, there usually isn't much congestion. They do have some carts onsite, so you don't necessarily have to bring your own. If you need service, you can always stop by during the office hours and someone was available to help. If I have a need to rent storage in the east metro in the future, I would certainly rent here again!

We had a bad experience with public storage where our stuff got water damage this past winter due to the snow. The unfortunate thing is the water damage did not come from the roof but from the street because of all the snow that piled up. It leaked into our storage and our furniture was destroyed. So we decided to find a new storage and we're so thankful we found simply storage. This place offers insurance and the staff is friendly and helpful. Don't go anywhere else!

Furthermore, I'm on the upper level of this two-story facility, and the elevator only works about a third of the time. This is a clean facility, probably because it's kind of new. And if you get a space on the bottom level, you won't have to worry about the elevator. But I would advise against getting an upper-level space here unless you don't think you'll need the elevator.

I definitely will not be recommending the new management given recent events. 1. STORE took over and left everyone without storage access. Showed up to move into our new home and (to our horror) couldn't access our unit! Several other families were present who also couldn't access their units including a woman who was picking up wedding chairs. Nobody was on site to help during the transition and the customer support was useless. I should NEVER be unable to access my belongings. 2. STORE is an objectively awful name for a company given how difficult it is to search for. This is a minor inconvenience, but try searching "Store on Vicksburg" and see where you land 3. Management tried to charge us for a full month when we were two days late on move out due to our inability to access the unit on the day we planned. No grace period. No contract with us. No effort. 4. STORE took over in May 2026 but kept all of the Extra Space reviews which I believe to be misleading. The storage units themselves and the access point are great & affordable. If you don't need to contact customer service or work with management, you'd probably be fine but I'd recommend the Extra Space location nearby to save yourself the headache!
