Storage unit and building burned down, but Public Storage is not very forthcoming with communication. It's very hard to get anyone to call you back. Everything is automated. And then anything that is automated doesn't take into account that the whole building just burned down and ask you silly things like, "How was our service?" Please take a survey... We needed a safe secure storage place for our stuff. We went to check this one out, a sketchy neighborhood but maybe ok. We asked the manager if the place was safe, they said it was. Hah! After we left my partner said there were empty bullet casings on the ground, meaning that people were inside shooting. So we rented elsewhere. read more

After many years of storing our items here we decided to move. Their prices are higher than others in better areas. They increase their rates pretty often and definitely not up to market price as they claim. The storage is not in the best area, it's busy on the weekend and their carts are usually taken. Do your research and find a better location with better prices. read more

The most terrible customer experience and most disrespectful people I've dealt with as a business at this location. I had a unit for about a month until 2 days ago. I took out ALL my stuff out and vacated the unit. The went to the office and told them I don't need the unit anymore and basically checked out. This morning I get call from a rude female telling me that my unit was not vacated fully and there's still a bunch of stuff there. So they're gonna vacate themselves and charge me for it. Absolute lie. I tried to get an explanation but they insisted they were gonna charge me no matter what. I call their corporate office to file a complaint, spoke to them and explained, they looked up the account and only at that point they accepted to call that office and told them they can't charge me for a vacated unit. Unbelievable behavior, super rude and disrespectful. Avoid this business at all costs. read more

Renters BEWARE (see other reviews for SAME warning.) This week I went to pay the monthly bill at this Public Storage location and noticed a fifty-four dollar increase. Turns out, within six months of starting this rental service, Public Storage increased the rent $54.00 without giving me ANY notice. I'm posting this for two reasons; 1. Do NOT allow a Public Storage, or ANY rental place for that matter, to AUTOMATICALLY deduct the storage fees from your bank account. I IMMEDIATELY caught the problem when I started to make the monthly payment and contacted Public Storage to ask why I was being charged a $50.00+ fee. 2. If you are going to shop around for a storage company, ask when and how often storage rental increases occur. I spoke with another rental company rep and he told me that rent could increase up to 15% with a 30 day notice, ANY TIME. Im fortunate that I only need to rent storage for a handful of months. Public Storage responded that their contract states they have the option to raise the rental fee. Public Storage FAILED to address why I didn't receive ANY notice of the increase. read more

Firstly, I found the staff friendly and helpful and therefore this review is not directed at any individual at the facility but to the corporation of Public Storage. I rented the space 13 months ago for $257 per month and moved in my belongings. At that time, I was disturbed to see a group of people nearby wearing masks as they moved out contents from another unit. I was curious and asked the lady what was so hazardous that they were wearing masks. She explained that the unit was rat infested and a lot of damage was sustained to their belongings as a result. I was disturbed by this news but tried to reassure myself that there were no holes in my unit where rats could enter. Later I realized I was mistaken! The reason I finally left the unit was due to 2 rent increases within a year. The first after 4 months from $257 to $317. The second came 8 months later taking the rent from $317 to $416. overall that is a 62% increase within a year. I was a good tenant and the rent was paid by direct debit. I decided quickly and moved my stuff out: It was then that I found that my unit was also rat infested and swarming ants too. Rat droppings and urine stains everywhere. Most of my belongings were safely boxed however; but mattresses and bedding were not and suffered. I estimated the damage at $700. Management claimed no responsibility for this loss. They were aware that this facility was infested and had ineffectual rat traps situated all around the property. However, they suggested I claim losses off my personal insurance. I believe that there is a breach of contract in Public Storage's failure to exercise duty of care towards their tenants' health and property. Tenants may be at risk from health hazards related to rodent infestation and not least, damage to their property. I would advise others, who may need temporary storage of their belongings, to think twice before using this facility. They are not even worthy of one star in this review. read more

The location is convenient and easy to get to. It was very clean and orderly. Kevin has outstanding customer service skills. I went to put something in my storage and discovered big rat dropping's. The rats peed on my fur coat and pooped on it . I went to inform the property person on duty and he told me that's what happens to the outside storage units it was nothing he could do since I did not have any insurance. Unprofessional he was not concerned about the rats it was so what oh well your lost lady. Don't go here .Period. read more

Okay this review is solely for William W. who is a manager reliever (he goes around to all the properties in the district filling for managers on off days/vacations). While this is not my location, I sometimes pay my bill here. Today was my first time encountering William and he doesn't not play around. I got to witness him handle a move in at the last minute and a customer from a different property who had issue with some fees. The move in wanted it quick-quick and the customer from the other property was having a fit over fees that she wanted dropped (FYI- if you want to dispute fees don't do it on the last grace day while at a different property and the one person who knows about the fees and said they would be dropped are off from your actual property. Sounds a mess? Well is was. And William didn't bust a sweat. He didn't let their poor planning becoming his emergency. Cool and calm. I was having a fit in the back while all this was going down wanting to do a Cher from Moonstruck and Slap the woman and tell her to "snap out of it!" Hahahaha. But William calmly explained to her the fees and that nothing could be done. He broke it down and I got why but she wasn't hearing it. Whatevs as the kids say. Had a nice little conversation with William while he took all my money and gave it to Public Storage ;). So I want to give a shout out to William for being a bright spot while my bank account was drained by my Public Storage payment :) You were working at a super stressful site on the last day for rent payments and while people were trying to move in at the last minute. And you did it all calmly. You get the award for awesome under pressure. Cheers mate and hopefully will see you around. read more

Dirty and sketchy location. Did not feel safe moving in or moving out. They also say "you can move out at any time" but be warned!!! If you stay even the first day into a month, you will be charged for THAT ENTIRE MONTH! I moved out on the 3rd of the month, but had to pay for the entire month anyway. So, my review of this place would have been at least average or above average until today--when I received a notice saying that they were increasing the cost of our unit by 20%! Sure the little asterisk next to the rate they promise you allows them to do it, but I think that increasing the rate by $53/mo just 5 months after move in is pretty unreasonable--especially when it appears on their website that they are still offering new customers our old rate or something similar. So, new customers beware. They'll probably do the same thing to you as well. We're a small nonprofit with a tight budget, and we can't afford to play these games. To get hit with a 20% increase with only 1 month's notice is almost as bad as our landlord's increase that forced us into a storage unit in the first place. Unfortunately, I've found a lot of storage places play this game because they know it's a big pain (and expensive) for you to move your stuff, so even if they jack it up above tolerance, they'll probably get at least a couple of months' rent at the jacked up rate before you get organized to move. On the whole, this facility is fine, but just be prepared to pay a whole lot more than the initial rate if you stay there more than a few months. read more

I have had really great customer service at this location. Initially I spoke with Amber on the telephone and she was able to knowledgeably and politely answer all of my questions at the time. I then went to see the facility personally before a committed to renting a unit from them. I looked at an interior unit. It was clean, dry and odor free. The facility in general was clean and well kept. After my tour with Eboni, she and Amber got me all set up with a contract and were very helpful in getting me the internet rate for the unit . I looked around the area for an inexpensive storage facility and the best price I found for the quality I wanted was at Richmond Public Storage. Amber was knowledgeable and figured out the size and location that would work best for me. I chose an outdoor drive up that was exactly what I needed. My experience renting from PS was good and Amber was especially helpful. All in all it was a good experience and I highly recommend this location. read more

Dont you just love it when you walk in to any kind of establishment and the proprietor or a manager or member of the staff immediately approaches you just to make sure you knew that they knew that you were there? Even though they may be really busy and tied up with other people, this gesture of acknowledging your presence in any kind of business or establishment in this way shows to me a solid grasp on professionalism. Not to mention the sweetness and skills that the staff member, "Sherrie" offered up on a "not so perfect" day I was having. She turned that around in a most definite way and turned our day and our experience with PS in to nothing less than a stellar event! Her patience with our many questions and having quick and knowledgeable solutions to a couple of problems are just a few of the reasons our choice to give our business to this PS was truly a blessing. PS should also know what a keeper they have with their employee, Sherrie.
