I look for businesses that have great customer service. Can I just say that Joyce rocks! She is the main reason I continue having my items stored at this particular location, even though my rent has risen. I stay because I know Joyce will steer me right. I mean seriously I am renting an empty square space--what can I say other than it's clean, safe, and easily accessible. What makes the storage unit special is Joyce. She is honest, knows her job inside and out, keeps others in line that do not show respect or follow the rules, has reminded me if my payment was going to be late, and is personable and caring. I am posting this review on this day, August 8, 2019, as a revision to my previous reviews of this particular Public Storage location at 5941 Venice Blvd. in Los Angeles. My storage space was broken into again almost two weeks ago, and the door has not been fixed. I have made a police report, and they are doing a full investigation this time. Today I spoke with ,Mike, the person I mentioned in my last review regarding the massive break in last October, to ask when my door would be fixed. At that point he said he did not see anything wrong with my door. Please scroll to the very bottom to see photos. When the apolice came by again two days ago they were surprised to see that my door was still broken, and said that it should have been fixed right away. When I realized my space had been broken into again, and that out of 400 spaces it being the only one I felt it was in retaliation. After pointing this out to the manager mysteriously another unit on the forth floor was found to have been broken into the next day. As of based on what was said to me by Mike I feel stronger than ever that retaliation is what is going on. Today in response to me asking Mike about fixing my door, this is what he said, "Oh you mean the lock was cut like you did when you did that massive break in!" His accusation leaves no doubt in my mind that there is something sinister going on here. This man is a very dangerous person to this business and to the customers. I now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will say and do anything to hurt me. I am afraid of him, and I am leaving this message as a protection if something should happen to me. I have done nothing to deserve this harassment. His manager at the building even told me that Mike told her to follow me around whenever I come there. He is a bully who loves to lie and use scare tactics to control others.I find him very dangerous. A few months ago I wrote a review regarding the elevator not working for several months. I have attached that review here. This time I am writing this review under duress regarding a video I published. On Labor Day (October 8, 2018) I arrived at this Public Storage location to find a massive break in had occurred. I pulled out my phone and video taped most of the the third floor where cut locks lay randomly everywhere. Even at this time which was in October the video shows me taking the stairs because the elevator did not work. It had been out since July 9, 2018. I received a missed call message yesterday (November 27, 2018) from the manager at Public Storage. When I called her back we spoke regarding my payment of extra fees that had been added on, and then she said, "Hold on Mike wants to talk to you." I asked for what, but by that time he had gotten on the phone and proceeded to tell me that he was evicting me for posting the break in video to You Tube because it showed the "Public Storage" logo. That was very untrue. The video has no logos, and it was posted mainly so others that I knew could see if their unit had been broken into. I went to the Public Storage office yesterday to see Mike. He was there. When I asked him about what he said regarding evicting me he started raising his voice in a way that felt like he was trying to provoke me to do the same. He also had no idea that before I went in I had already spoken with one of my attorneys about this. All I said to Mike was that since he said he was evicting me, then I needed that in writing. I truly feel that this along with other things that have been said and done to me are retaliation, harassment, and a miss use of his position. He loves to use scare tactics to control any one that he feels is inferior to himself.He knows if he harasses and threatens enough this will cause those people to leave. I've been storing my kids clothes and toys for the last 7 years here. I pay $278 for a 5x10 unit. Emptying it has been one of those things I just haven't had time to do. I finally took a day off to empty the unit. I rented a cargo van and arrived. Unfortunately the key broke in the lock. I was offered no solutions by the office but to call a locksmith. The lock isn't covered under any warranty and the monthly insurance doesn't cover a broken lock. I called a locksmith and waited that hour for them to arrive and open it for me. When it was all done it was nearly 6 pm. I went to get a cart to load everything and realized there was no carts available for use as was part of the rental package. I went back to the office which was closed (at 5:53pm). I saw the cart inside the office so I knocked and the employee opened the door. She told me because the the theft of the carts residents are no longer allowed to use the cart until more come in which she said have been ordered. It didn't make sense why I couldn't use it, if it was there until they get more? I just need one and they have one... So now I have to spend a few hours going up and down with just what I can carry in my two hands, where as with a cart it would take 4-5 loads max. read more

UPDATE: there were bugs coming from the ceiling; I found (what looks like) urine and feces on the ground and on my furniture. I'm so glad almost everything had been wrapped in plastic by my movers. The manager was missing for TWO during business hours. She literally left and I couldn't close my account. I had to call corporate AND reach out on Twitter to have someone reach the manager. See pics below. Also, I must say this: This facility is NOT safe. I think that there are people who live in the unit that are homeless. My unit was on the second level, B079. I hadn't been there in a while so I forgot where it was located. After some twist and turns I saw a dirty shopping cart filled with clothes and odd items, and take out food wrappers next to it. It was like a shopping cart you would see a homeless take around on the street. Now, I had got there when the gates open at 6 AM, and my mom and I were the only two in the parking lot so we saw everyone arrive from that time to 2PM when I left. That shopping cart had been there that night. That food was still fresh. That's terrifying. Finally, a woman was there at the same time I was and showed me her broken lock. Apparently someone had gone into the facility and cut all the locks to one area of the storage unit. She was also packing her car and closing her account. Avoid at all costs. Glad to be done of that unsafe, unkept place. read more

I don't know why humans, seemingly in the last 10 or so years, have decided that shit just makes them happy. I even heard a stat recently that one in THREE families now has a unit! Sheesh. I mean...let's face it folks...that new chair isn't going to make your life complete and neither is that hideous handmade vase you picked up for $50 at the Rose Bowl Swap Meet! So what do we do with all that excess shit that is all important and impossible to part with? Well...we store it! Yup, that's what we do. That Ikea coffee table that you refinished? Store it. That poster of Scott Baio? Duh...store it. And how about that collection of "Jelly" shoes or your giant box containing EVERY SINGLE "My Little Pony?" Store it! Public Storage is apparently on like every city block...there are THREE...yes THREE alone just on Venice Blvd. lol But make no mistake...there's a difference or a slight variation at each one so you feel that it's all your own and a REAL life extension of your wonderful-already materialistically-junked-filled home. One has a parking lot that no truck can possible get into with all of those ponies...you have to park out front and walk that shit up to your unit. Another has a garage. Ours...yes, I say ours because we currently have two apartments full of goodies and only one to put it all it...hence OURS...has enough room for a truck to pull in AND contains all of the units INDOORS! That means your unit door is INSIDE another door rather than exposed to would be pickers. You'll always pay more at Public Storage for: size a door that swings as opposed to rolling up bottom floor So you can pick and choose on their website and find the perfect combination to suit your ever-expanding needs!! Yeah for you! First month is usually free and units will set you back $150 or so on up a month. Our 10 x 15, first floor, swing door costs us about $380 if that gives you any indication...far led then renting a whole nutha apartment for my bike with flat tires though! read more

They lied and told me they reached out to me to alert me that my Autopay didn't go through. The property manager Nicole is as dead pan and indifferent as can be. I explained to her that I never got a call and asked why she didn't email me. She said that's not her problem. To me "saying" you called someone has no merit. At least with an email there is a paper trail. As far as I'm concerned this statement of a call was BS. Beware, she'll try to sweet talk you into a positive review, but I would wait. For someone who literally does nothing all day and stares at a computer, if she really wanted a five star review she would have called multiple times and or emailed to make sure her customers were taken care of and not blindsided by a late fee. Oook, I've never had to store anything before and after this I will NEVER again. I have a 2 bedroom house full of furniture stored at this facility, flat screens, sofas, bed, refridgerator, stove...all the comforts of home. I've been ready to retrieve them, in fact over two weeks now....and I cannot, WHY? Because the elevator is inoperable and has been for over TWO MONTHS. Now, a reasonable person, that would be me, would inquire when would it be repaired....ok, I did...a reasonable person would follow up...I did....a reasonable person say's ( after being outright lied to) "hey buddy what's really going on"?, I did, and was outright lied to again ("lie" is a strong word, I meant to use it as fact).Now, said reasonable person (ME) is incensed and livid, not strong enough words, but they will suffice; as I am unable to remove MY items. Fast forward to Sept 11, I called Michael Mulvy alleged District Manager seeking resolve, I left a message...he called back ....unenthused and ill-equipped to resolve anything; what was my resolve....hire a reputable moving company to move my items to the bottom level BY STAIRS and I will have a moving company I paid for load up and move out from there....easy peasy. Nope, he couldn't handle that. Sooo, now it's the 20th I've expended over 2500.00 to have some comfort....that means authentically, so I can sleep on a bed, watch tv, have coffee, bathe with towels, have eating utensils...I've been at a hotel..AND I had to pay extra for a "pet friendly" hotel, all of this is to date. Now, I'm suing. Am I litigious? No, check my record. BUT, what you won't do is take MY money and tell me, "deal with it" ....me thinks NOT. In court you must go with "clean hands", Public Storage has not only breached their contract, but they also committed fraud and theft. That 11.00 dollars a month I/you pay for "mandated insurance" is now going to be used, I'm also filing a claim for theft of property. Second, I filed a grievance with BBB.org. Third, I'm calling David Goldstein Investigative Reporter of CBS, because something in the water is not clean. I implore anyone else who is perplexed to move forward as I have and am, it's YOUR MONEY. I rented out storage about 4 years ago at this facility and my stuff was also stolen, after reading the reviews I see that people's stuff is still getting stolen and their units are still getting broken into, it's clearly an inside job. Funny thing is the property manager lives Onsite, "Sees/Saw Nothing" but Management has still NOT decided to put up security cameras by now after all the thefts. My suggestion, implant a hidden tracker/security device in one of your items that is connected to your cell phone so if someone tries to take your stuff you'll get a notification of a break-in and be able to notify the police and provide the police tracking info to find the scumbags that are doing this and put them in jail! read more

This location is quieter from what I've heard, which works for me because they elevator is almost always available. Well, Public Storage, I must say I am disappointed. You know I was not even that upset when my unit rent was increased in the third month after we started renting. I thought they have video monitoring, key code access, employees that appear to care and hey, if my stuff is going to be securely stored it's worth the price. Oh, how wrong I was. On Sunday, March 11th my wife and I arrived at our storage unit to drop off some boxes. The unit door was locked and everything seemed normal on the outside. Upon opening the unit we discovered that more than 80% of our unit had been cleaned out. Gone. My bill is current and paid automatically, there was no gap in payment. I raced down the front desk to beg for help but was met by indifference. The only response was "well, you can call the police if you want." Really? The staff are not encouraged provide assistance? What about the video monitoring, the key code access, or the part about a crime being committed on the property. Turns out that was none of the employee's concern. I called the police and while I waited for them to arrive I learned a few things about the facility that had not come up before. The video monitoring is limited to the front office and a partially obstructed view of the parking lot. There are no internal cameras in the elevator or hallways. The monitoring is recorded on VHS tapes and are not held for a significant amount of time. VHS tapes in 2018. A person can go to a common electronics store and buy a remote wireless video system with multiple cameras for a cost equal to the monthly rental fee. The key code access only records entering/exiting the parking lot, opening the building side door from the outside (not from the inside), and activating the elevator. It does not record what floor a person travels to or when they leave the floor or the building. And to make things worse, when I returned to the unit the day after reporting the robbery I find the building side door is propped open. I walked in to the office to find the same employee from the day before and told him the door was open. His response, "yeah, it's more convenient for the people coming and going." Come on, man. The limited security there is in place is actively undermined by staff? You may have noticed by now that the caring staff I referenced in the beginning was a hoax, too. The police arrived promptly considering the size of LA and began their work. They accessed the door, lock (which was purchased from Public Storage), and the unit. Their best guess on first look was it was an inside job. They estimated either someone with access and a master key or lock picking skills could have gotten in to do the deed. I relayed that to the employee on hand, he offers to call the district manager. Mind you we have been at the unit in distress for more than an hour and the employee has done nothing to abate or console the situation. I say yes, please do call the district manager I am sure he will want to know there are infractions occurring on the grounds. No answer, employee leaves a voicemail identifying me and the event. Five days later I still have not heard back from the district manager. How embarrassing. I did hear from Public Storage this week, though. While I was at the unit with the LAPD fingerprinting division. I was observing the officer dust and collect 3 set of fingerprints (that do not match me or my wife) when I heard the tell-tale ding of a new email. The email was from Public Storage. My monthly invoice notice has arrived. You might be wondering if there is any resolution to this story. There is not, it is just a tragedy. There is no good Samaritan. There is no happy accident of relocating belongings by management. There is only the passive reminder that the building has a post no bills policy. That's why this post was made. This is a simple story of 5941 Venice Public Storage being a safe place for criminal activity and maintaining an effective billing system. There is probably very few companies on the planet that are as bad as public storage. They have caused me (and many others I know) NOTHING but headaches. And just recently, because I have autopay, they charged my account five times over! They took out just shy of a grand from my account! Of course they reversed it, but not until I had to call the bank, call them, go back and forth with their bs only to have them say that there was nothing more they could do. Not even so much as an apology from them! I heard this happened all over Southern California. I feel pretty confident that if I didn't pay for five months they wouldn't just take my simple, oops accounting error as a response. I have also found that for the most part, the people running these public storage locations are rude and very ill trained. This is a company that gets by on the fact that they are so large they don't care about their customers at all. I HIGHLY suggest you look into smaller more 'ma and pa' run storage facilities. You might pay a little extra but when it comes down to a major screw up you're sure to get the service you deserve with a personal place. God knows I wish I had gone with someone else. read more

I have rented a unit in the past from the PS a block east on Venice Blvd, but I've been nothing but pleased with my storage experience at this location since renting my unit 4 months ago. The space is what it is and moving is never fun nor easy, but having a helpful staff makes a huge difference upon your initial visit and encountering friendly office staff each time you need to pay a dreaded storage visit facilitates the process. The manager lies to me straight up & says it was "required" to purchase a lock there, which I checked with another location & found to be untrue. READ YOUR RECEIPT, while purchasing my unit & the lock, I was also unknowingly charged for a box which "came with the unit" when clearly I was paying for it, luckily I looked it over before signing & she offered an immediate refund for the mistake. Now I'm receiving emails that I need to come back to the location because my unit is unsecure & I need to check on my lock. THE ONE I PURCHASED FROM YOU WTH!
