Nice staff. Good variety of units. Temperature controlled. The only issues I had were the very slow elevators, usually one was broken making it even slower. Also, the hours were kind of a pain. Monday - Saturday 9-6 and Sunday 9-5. Most times I could get there was later in the afternoon or early evening. I couldn't get everything done so I had to keep coming back. Other than that, good prices. I would recommend if you have the flexibility. read more

Rough start.... The lock I was given with the unit was very flimsy, I had a hard time getting it to lock and the key did not go in smoothly. Once I was able to lock it, the key got stuck in the lock and would not come out. I went and told the front desk and they said I would need to call a locksmith or wait for theirs at the end of the month (if was Feb 7th). I called a locksmith and they charged me $250 since they were unable to remove the key either and had to drill the lock, the locksmith said the key did not look like it belonged in that lock. After it was removed I went and got my own lock, but this was very frustrating and took a lot of time out of my day. Public Storage didn't seem to care or try to help at all and I had to foot the bill. They don't seem interested in my feedback on their website and they sent me to Yelp to leave a review. I spent $3,000 today cleaning a 10x15 thoroughly infested with rodents! The attached video shows 3 live juvenile mice, but at least 7 more jumped out of the couch which -0we had to send to the junkyard. Our total loss is thousands in perfect condition couches because the fabrics were so stained and stinking from mouse urine that the pro cleanup crew, wearing respirators, told us they would not take them for free to their own homes. DO NOT RENT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE, JERSEY CITY!! The 10 or more mice ran from our locker towards the other 30 or so in our section on the west and southern section of the first floor. These mice are now in those rooms. Management stonewalled us and offered a check for one month's rent as compensation IF WE DIDN'T WRITE A REVIEW. read more

Terrible storage company, me and my family were late once, with a promise that we could pay by the end of the month and keep our unit. Communication was poor within the company and they auctioned off our unit without so much as a word or warning that it was going to happen nor did they inform us that the higher ups knew of our deal to pay end of the month. Questionable "service" and incessant demand for money -- after raising the fee twice. Interminable wait time every time I attempt to contact. Most recent "problem" after ma\king a payment and receiving a confirmation number, several days later I was informed that the payment did not go through, they have now added over six hundred dollars in late fees, penalties, and the like! Now they are demanding over thirteen-hundred dollars! For the first time in all the years, my Passport number is required to enable them to access my account before they can "do anything" to "assist me." What a company! Personally I've only had great experiences renting from Public Storage and this JC location is no different. Will and the team (Kristin, Brad, Gwen, and Carmen) are all very nice, helpful and patient. The place is modern, clean and safe. The indoor parking is wonderful, as are the loading bays for bigger trucks. I've rented from other facilities where you have a hard time locating staff, but there seems to always be at least 2 people on hand to help our customers, and the office stays open until 7PM most days (great if you have to work during the day). read more

What a scam! Public Storage company does a big bait and switch. I reserved my unit one week ago online at the online price advertised. my move in date is Aug 1st. I went in today to see the I it as required and they told me the price I had reserved the unit at was no longer valid and the new price was over $100 more a month. I questioned how this was possible and the employee just said it's a thing corporate is doing. I told him, well that's called a bait and switch and it's a scam and highly unethical and he agreed with me. but nothing was done about it so I'm taking my business somewhere else. completely untrustworthy company. In Feb these low-lifes are jacking it up to $208/month, for a closet. That's a 408% increase. Meanwhile, inflation since 2019 has risen 19.6%. What bottom-feeding business does that? He even helped another couple who was struggling with an offer they thought they had. In terms of storage itself, the pro's is that it is close to most of the high rise buildings and is a clean secure location. the pricing varies widely so you could end up with a very high rate. and they don't offer 24x7 access is which is quite painful (in manhattan you can get 24x7 access) read more

I had been a customer of Public Storage (located on 2nd in Jersey City) for 5 years. When I first rented my 1st floor, 5 x 5 unit in 2017, my rent was $38/mth. My unit was discounted because there was a large support column in my unit. Being I did not have a lot of items to store, I took the deal. Since then, my rent was gradually increased annually to $60/mth which was expected. However, I received a notification on 08/31 a new rent increase that more than doubled the cost = $127/mth would go into effect in October. I went to the office and asked for reconsideration, especially because of the support column. The lady working there, Amanda, was very nice and agreed that because of the column, they should be able to reduce the rent accordingly. She advised I should come back tomorrow after she spoke with the regional Manager (Samantha) and would let me know if the request was approved. I advised her that I was ready to move out today (the last day of the month) to avoid being charged for a full month, should my request be denied. Amanda assured me that if my request was denied, she would assist me in ensuring that I would not have to pay for September if I came in on Sept 1st. My request was denied and I decided to go to a competitor because the rent increase was just ridicules. (Note: Public Storage des not pro-rate rent. So, if you are only there for one day, you pay for the whole month. Personally, I think that is unacceptable, but I digress). On the morning of 9/1, I called Public Storage and spoke with Amanda again. She confirmed that she would assist me in closing out my unit without being charged for the full month. My instructions were to ask for her when I arrived. When I arrived, she was, unfortunately, not in at the moment (out to lunch?).. so I asked another rep there for assistance. That's when the everything went downhill. The "rep" working was a man with a beard and a French manicure. He (She/They?) was the absolute rudest person I have ever encountered. He refused to assist me, he refused to give me access to my unit before paying for the entire month of September, he was obnoxious and is lucky he wasn't punched in the nose. I explained I made arrangements with Amanda and the District Manager (Samantha) that a "work-around" was being used to assist me, he disregarded me and said he will call Samantha himself. I was stuck waiting there in the office for over thirty minutes before he returned to me with a sicky note with Samantha's phone number and a smirk. I called her and told her all of the above. She apologized and assisted me as originally promised. She did also advise that Amanda didn't have the authority to use a work-around but she still honored my request. (Imagine that, a customer service rep is trying to do her best to help the customer, and corporate is being bullish and unrealistic!). The overall experience was dreadful and I am very happy to be out of there. Bottom line is as follows: The rent increases are unreasonably high and robotic (especially if you have a first floor unit). There is no pro-rating of rent. The customer service is spotty and that one employee I mentioned earlier should be fired as he has zero customer service skills, manners or respect. One other note.. if you need a trolly to help you move items from your car to your unit, be prepared to wait at least 15 mins because they demand you leave your driver license before they let you use one. Just another reason why going to a competitor was necessary. read more

Buyer beware - Bait & Switch at its finest. Let me start by saying that my first impression and experience with this facility was good..even great. Clean, easy to use, nice enough staff, etc. the price was really fantastic as it was only going to be $20+tax per month for the second smallest unit size at the facility. Perfect for my needs. Fast forward less than 5 months later and I received a letter stating my rent would be raised to $100+tax. A 500% increase. I thought that couldn't be right and called. Without even asking any questions, I was placed on hold and told my request for rent reduction would be reviewed. What does this tell you? That they anticipate these calls and this is standard practice. A few days later, I received a call that it had been approved and new rent would be $75+tax. Ummm still almost 4x the original rent. I declined and chose to move my stuff out. On the day of my move out, the place was packed with people moving in. So it's clear to me that they wanted new tenants or more rent for the unit that I had rented. If I leave, they win. If I stay, they win. I'm just lucky it was extra storage and not something I desperately needed. And now I'm seeing tons of reviews here within the last month of others experiencing the same. Shame on you Public Storage. I've rented units at other facilities all over the country and NEVER experienced anything like this. Never again for PS. read more

From my time of moving in, to the day of my move out, they have done an outstanding job of throughly explaining my rental terms to me, as well as getting me the best rates. Damian and Latoya have been understanding, reliable and super nice to me! I've rented with this location for 6 months while I was traveling abroad and will do so again! The facility is convenient for me living only a block away; otherwise I would not use them due to the rude and unhelpful staff who hide behind company policy instead of lending a hand to the customers (specifically Antonio, Damien and Dean; others may be more helpful). Also - beware of the mandatory insurance you need to get when you sign up. Your homeowners insurance likely includes coverage on an offsite, but you'll need to show evidence. Otherwise they require you to buy their own policy (which they tell you you can always cancel later, but you would've already laid one month). read more

I went by the area to check-in and drop off my things at around 5:45p, 15 minutes from closing. At first, the guy there said, unfortunately, the place was closing and that we'd only have time to register our unit. Luckily I did the Echeck-in previously, so he gave us an exception and gave us additional time to load. In fact he opened the loading dock and even helped me lift boxes and bring them into my storage. He was very helpful and even stayed 30 minutes passed closing time to help us load our stuff. I didn't catch his name, but ya he was friendly, helped me register the locker, helped carry my boxes even, and helped guide my truck - all on his own time past closing!! I get there at 5:08pm, see tons of people inside and call the number - the facility closes to new entrants at 5:00pm no exceptions. What a waste, the majority of their competitors allow 24 hour access to your stuff and would be reasonable enough to allow you to drop off a few minutes after the close if other people were in the facility. Really wish I would have used a competitor that was 24 hours as I assumed this was, this trek alone cost me the $32 of tolls in and out of NJ. read more

Staff was super kind and getting to my unit was simple. Don't like the fact that you can not access your things once the office is closed. You need an access code just to make the elevator move but if they close on Sunday, for example at 6pm, you can no longer even enter the building. So I'm simpler words not 24 hour access or even access at late hours. Latest they are open is 7pm. read more

Public storage is a horrible company overall. They raise rents constantly, they sell your stuff I you miss you payment more than 1 months (and approach 2). It is like an underground market for storage wars, where they sell and protect the people / buyers they let into the auctions they setup on their website. I am disappointed by the type of enterprise they run (focused on the capital aspect and no human aspect) and would not recommend anyone get in business (personally with storage on their property or professionally) with this company. I do think the staff at the locations are good people, trying to do a good job for their employer, but the overall business approach by Public storage is just WRONG.
