Unfortunately, some things happened over the course of the following year that left me extremely dissatisfied. 1) The cost of my parking space doubled over my time there - owing to periodic "regional cost evaluations" - with $20 per month increases every couple of months. For what I don't know. 2) They pulled a stunt where they tried to slam on unnecessary supplemental insurance to my monthly charges. - First it was due to my 6 month policy renewal. It honestly did not occur to me to share new details, but they also did not make the requirement known until the day of expiration and then went ahead and added the supplemental insurance anyway without even offering a chance to rectify the situation. I feel the business could be more organized and flexible. Most people have their insurance and other bills on auto renewal and don't think about things like this. It is obviously done at the last minute and slammed on thinking the customer will not notice since the bill is auto payment - After sorting this matter out, they added the charges back again a few days later. This time it was allegedly for "an audit". After explaining to the office staff that they had already received and acknowledged the required insurance details, it was stated that they needed the entire declarations statement from my policy. This includes coverage details for property that does not pertain to my business relationship at all with Prime Storage. At the time I was caring for a sick pet with cancer, so I did not fight the battle and just gave it to them. Again the matter was sorted out with office staff and I thought that would be the end of it. - Then some time later, the charges appeared again. This time it was due to the manager allegedly "accidentally adding them" following the audit. So another conversation with the office later, the matter is supposedly sorted out again. - Finally, most recently the stunt with insurance started all over again with zero notice for requirements to update policy information before slamming in supplemental insurance. 3) The property is shaded, and during the recent snow and ice storm in January they did not do anything at all to treat or clear the main road going into the property. After a few days of melt / freeze, the snow had compacted to a sheet of ice making it extremely dangerous to enter and leave the property via the steep driveway. This was so bad, in fact, that while I was there returning my vehicle I saw another customer spreading ice melt trying to clear the driveway. I could barely enter and leave myself, and the possibility of an accident was very high as a result of this negligence.

Everything looks very secure, the storage units are gated and you need a special password to get in. I've had stuff stored here for about a year and it's just how I left it. I would definitely recommend this as a storage facility, the only negative is that it's not the closest to the college campus, but if you have a car or a truck it's not a big deal at all.

Without asking, they gave me a discount on the second unit and never a moment of hassle when I gave them less than two week's notice on moving out. Access is via a gate with a personal code and open during times convenient to us. With the unit being 8 minutes from Chapel Hill it is safe to say we lived out of those units for those 11 months. Convenient space with lovely people running it. Highly recommend!!

When I called, of course I got the runaround about "well in section 4 of your contract, it states it's month to month and we can raise prices at any time. You received a discount and now your price is still lower than market value" They claim to have sent me a notice via snail mail- which seems to me like a cop-out since all other communications are email (however this is apparently related to a random NC law?, or so they said) Either way, a price increase that's almost double what I initially signed up for with absolutely no communication that this might happen is really upsetting. As a small-business owner who lives in a studio apartment, I needed this solution for my business supplies and now will be canceling and moving all my stuff to a place that's more affordable. I was also told that "if you stay, prices will go up again around the 9 month period" which AGAIN, would have been nice to know up front. Not a good way to do business by roping people in and then skyrocketing the price just because they can. I do not recommend renting a unit here.

The manager and other staff were often rude, drunk, high and most times aggressive while at work as I performed my job. After multiple attempts to resolve issues through communication I was yelled at, over worked and bullied. The customer service is very suspicious and often times leads to customers either overcharged or in some cases charging extra to cause hardship on customers. I highly do not recommend employment here or the purchase of any products. While I appreciate the opportunity, I was disappointed with the way I was treated and disturbed at the events that were unprofessional and very aggressive towards me in management approaches. This type of unprofessionalism made it difficult to do my job effectively due to the constant threats and mistreatment due to poor management. There are also roaches and rats at an alarming rate in people's storage units upon entering you see rat traps and I was a housekeeper constantly being told to work with extremely bad pesticides and I am currently five months pregnant. I hope the company will consider addressing issues as such in the future.

THE FACTS: * Reserved a U-Box WEEKS in advance for a critical moving date * Day before delivery: Text claiming "mechanical problems" - delivery CANCELLED * Called immediately: Promised a manager callback that NEVER came * Next morning: Story mysteriously changed to "you didn't answer our confirmation call" * We were literally ON THE PHONE with them during this supposed "missed call" * The "mechanical problem" vanished from their explanation entirely THE DAMAGE: This wasn't just an inconvenience - they nearly destroyed our entire cross-country move. The "manager" was utterly useless when we finally tracked them down. Their blatant lies and contract violations have forced us to pursue legal action. THE ONLY POSITIVE: U-Haul's corporate customer service tried to help, but couldn't fix this location's catastrophic failure. THE VERDICT: Currently pursuing legal action for breach of contract. Save yourself the nightmare - use PODS.com instead. They rescued our move with professional, reliable service when this U-Haul location abandoned us. When I got there, the manager informed me that the door is much smaller in width than the unit that said "drive-up access" and "vehicle storage" on the website. So I handed the keys back to the manager and said to cancel it. Well, he never did. A week later, it looked like the account was still active. I called customer service and after being transferred and cut off several times, they informed me that "unfortunately" they could not give me a refund for the months that were paid for. So after $500, I never used the space because of their inaccurate description. Manager at the facility was really nice, but their customer service (especially Brandy with a Y) was terrible!!! I'm not kidding that I've only gotten mad at a customer service person a few times ever in my life and this was one of them. She even said a customer service supervisor would call me back within 48 hours, and now it's 7 days later and I'm still waiting. I'm going to just call it a loss though, because I can't go through all that again. Ugh. Terrible isn't a harsh enough word.
