Heads up: this place does not currently have matcha! I think that is wild... but the coffee and kombucha is great! Word on the street is that they are trying to find a good matcha to add to their menu. The scone / butter flight is a cute fun breakfast. The side biscuit is tasty and I love that they have eggs on the menu. Staff is nice and it can get crowded in there! You order at the counter and can eat inside or out. There are some tables that are laptop free zones which I think is good and bad... just something to consider if you're looking for a work from coffee shop place. We knew it had to be good due to the long line and almost every table was full. We scanned the menu and I decided on getting the dark chocolate mocha latte and damn was it good. Good amount of coffee and chocolate but not overly sweet so loved it. (I got mine iced) The cappuccino was good but I'm not a big cappuccino lover so it didn't do it for me but my boyfriend liked it. I got the scone with the peanut butter ube butter and OMG was it delicious. The scone was buttery and flaky and I loved the sugar crustedness of it but it wasn't crazy sweet. The peanut butter ube butter was smooth and creamy and delicious. You can buy the butter separately and bring it home. (I'll do this next time) The shakshuka was also very good. Good flavor and the side bread is perfectly crunchy. The service was excellent. Ambience is busy and lively and I love it. I can see this place being a regular go to for coffee and scones. read more

Always interested in cafe spots that have charcoal infused coffees so I got the black sesame latte. Very balanced drink where you can taste the coffee beans but also the other infused flavors such as the coconut cream and maple syrup. I love coming here, ordering a delicious latte, and hanging out on the patio with my dog to just people watch and chat with folks shopping along La Mesa Boulevard. It's in a great location and really nails the community vibe that I cherish so much. As I mentioned earlier, the coffee here is some of the best I've ever had. Granted, I don't have the most refined coffee palette, but my wife who was a barista for almost 20 years tells me that they do coffee right. Their espresso is smooth and not bitter, giving every drink a velvety texture. Their scones are also an absolute highlight. Cooked fresh constantly, these scones come out warm and soft, with one of their amazing seasonal butter flavors. If you're feeling extra adventurous, you can order a whole flight full of wild and inventive butter flavors! Pro tip, anything with cayenne pepper in it is an instant win. Trust me. Spiciness and the sweetness go hand in hand in amazing ways. The other food options on their menu are super tasty, but the portion sizes tend to be a little small, especially for the price. That said, for a date or an extra special weekend treat, this is the perfect place to go bright and early. Be warned, however, this place fills up very quickly and can go from nobody in line to a line out the door in a matter of minutes. They've also recently updated their hours and are open much later, now serving pizza in the p.m. and let me tell you guys, that pizza is out of this world. Whoever's baking this stuff really knows the ins and outs of dough, because these pizzas come out softer yet crispier than any pizza I've ever had. I don't know what kind of Wizardry is going on in the kitchen, but I need more of this in my life! I had a biscuit and the jasmine mint tea. The tea was so good! The aroma and taste was splendid. The biscuit was so good! It's hard to find good biscuits and I'm so happy public square delivered. I was here for some remote work. I think the WiFi kicks you off after an hour. It was pretty busy there was one table left so I lucked out. The staff is very friendly. It was a bit loud and it's on a Main Street so be aware. I'll be back to try more food and drinks. read more

Delicious! Get the pandan latte!! I always get pandan whenever I see it on a menu. I don't even really know what the flavor is...but I know I always love it! It's sweet but not overpowering. I also got a scone with the peanut butter ube butter. It was pretty small for the price, but I was on vacation so whatever. The scone itself was very soft so I enjoyed it. The peanut butter ube was good, but didn't stand out that much. Metered parking out front, but we parked in one of the neighborhoods and just walked over. I stopped by for a quick visit on a very busy day, during Oktoberfest. The cashier was able to give detailed descriptions about their scones when I had questions. They are made fresh each morning and you get a choice of flavored butter with your scone as well. The scones were amazing! Crispy outside and soft inside. The scone, however, was the only part of my order that I was impressed with. I ordered a chai latte with two shots of espresso but it oddly did not have any flavor- it was quite watery even upon the first sip. The wait time here was also very long- about 20-25 mins. I'm going back soon to try another drink and get another scone though. Update- I came back on a less busy day and the wait is still long, about 10-15 mins for a latte. Scones are still great, but again, I didn't like my drink this time (sadly). My conclusion is that the drinks are not strongly made here- if you prefer a strong espresso taste, I recommend asking for an extra shot compared to what is standard here. I've been here twice but today's experience was so great! The staff member who took our order was super friendly- she did a great job. We ordered their scone flight and their scones and butters were divine! I'm still thinking about them! We also ordered the shakshuka and the biscuits and gravy. The shakshuka was ok, I wish it had more egg, it was too much tomato for me. The biscuits and gravy were good! I really enjoyed the gravy. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. The outdoor seating was fairly clean, the music they were playing was great though. The ambiance was pretty busy. We also noticed that the bar stand where people go pick up their to go coffee orders looks like it's about to fall- it may need some repair. This place gets packed in the mornings, but the crowd died down after 11 am. I got the pandan coffee and gluten free scone with the maple cayenne butter! The pandan coffee was smooth, sweet, and subtle with the pandan flavor. The scone was also excellent! I've never had a scone before going gluten free so I don't really have anything to compare it to but I would describe it as a combination between a biscuit and a cake, only way less sweet. The butter had subtle hints of maple and wasn't spicy at all from the cayenne. Overall, loved the atmosphere and there are positive affirmations all over the coffee shop to make you feel welcomed! First time here and will be back. I really enjoyed everything! The iced pandan latte and husbands hot sesame latte were tasty and not too sweet at all. The scone and butter flight was great although some of the butters weren't very flavorful and were melting. I was sitting outside and it was a bit warm. The breakfast sandwich with upgraded chili oil and arugula was also really yummy and not as messy as it looked since the was easy to bite through. Although not my number one coffee shop in San Diego, whenever I am in the La Mesa area, this is an incredible coffee shop. If they were closer to my house, I would probably be going a lot more. The staff is always friendly and willing to explain their drinks, customize things if necessary, and I've always left happy with my purchase. First and foremost, the coffee is great. They have a really wide selection to choose from and if you like iced coffee's like I do, I highly recommend the Black Sesame latte. I drink it with oat milk and that would definitely be a go to drink for me on a daily basis, if I lived closer. They also have some really good food, including some avocado toast that is a lot more than just an appetizer. It will fill you up. I have been coming to this place since I was on maternity leave with my first son over 8 years ago. I love the drinks (the iced brown sugar latte is my favorite) and the scones with flavored butter are mouthwatering. I'm giving this 3 stars because of the wait time. I just waited 30 minutes for an order through the app when I was quoted 20 minutes for my order to be ready. I feel like the wait has always been a little long, but it's been getting increasingly longer and it's hard to justify going here and having my husband wait for me with the kids in the car when even Instagram trending places take 20 minutes or less from waiting in line to getting your drink. If you have time, this place is great. I won't be returning until they can bring down the wait times because there are so many good coffee shops around that get me my drink in under 10 minutes read more

As usual, I start off my review with the parking availability. They don't have their own parking lot but you can find many public parking lots in the area or on the street. Weekends is tough to find parking so I suggest parking in the back of the building and walking over. Love how we got seats under the big tree to keep us cool from this summer heat. I ordered the brown sugar cinnamon latte with oat milk and it was tasty. Not too sweet but just the right amount. The scone flight was so good that if I could describe happiness it has to be their scones. I took some on the go for my hubby to try with the guava butter.
