I am not one to usually leave reviews, but I felt this one was necessary. I have been here quite a few times and love this place. However today when we stopped in we didn't get acknowledged for 10 minutes. We then decided to move tables hoping that would help us get service and it did not. We watched the waitress go to the same table over 3 times, while taking shots with them before even acknowledging her other table or us for that matter. I am a bartender/server and felt very disrespected that she didn't even acknowledge us or even give us any time of day. We asked about the daily special online that was apparently not a thing. We ended up walking out and leaving. We didn't leave because of the wings deal, we left because we had terrible service, or should I say no service at all after 25 minutes!!! read more

This used to be the dark, smelly, depressing Cafe Netherworld. I consider myself a mid-grade regular because I live so near, it's my go-to bar for a quick drink. I am SO glad someone bought this place! The new owner has done a lot in a short amount of time. The creepy/crappy artwork is gone, the walls aren't black and blood red anymore, the lurchy goths aren't lurking in the corners as much. It's really a huge improvement. There are finally TVs with sports on (YAY!). The beer isn't warm anymore, but still not COLD. The staff no longer glares at you when you when you come in, nor are they DRUNK anymore. They've added a new, expanded patio outside which will be awesome as soon as it opens (I think they are waiting on the permit or something). New jukebox, yay...sick of the same old craaaaap every time I came in here. Don't get me wrong: it's not some frat-boy hangout now. It's just relaxed and chill, like a neighborhood bar should be. It's early yet (grand opening is still a few weeks away), but I believe they're really onto something. The owner also owns Pub on Pearl. The old regulars are pissed, but whatever. I come here for Wing night every now and then. $6 all you can eat wings and $8.50 pitchers of Bud Light. Their wings are really good and the service is always spot on. We tried their "extra hot" wings last night. They use ghost pepper in the sauce and I could only eat one. It left my mouth with the normal "this is hot" gasping for air and trying to fit my mouth inside my beer pint. The stranger effect was that I felt floaty, and almost light headed, kind of fun. The owner brought us the extra hot and wanted to see us try one. I went in last night for the first time and had a couple drinks with a girlfriend. I've lived a block away from this spot for two years and went to Cafe Netherworld only in times of extreme desperation... NOT my style. Now that its been renamed and revamped I will definitely be coming back more frequently. Alex, the bartender was great... good recommendations and entertaining. What a relief for Capitol Hill! Finally a bar where you can go to catch a game, rock a jukebox, or eat some good grub while enjoying the day on the patio. This place is huge. They have deals every day, and probably the best happy hour you're going to find in the neighborhood. 11-7 EVERYDAY. The food is pretty decent, and the prices are more than fair. There are around 10-15 flat screens, plenty of seating, pool tables, and WiFi/computer access. The vibe is definitely on the move. I've noticed business picking up and a steady crowd. I also believe it is going to be a Nebraska Cornhusker bar during college football season. So, in closing, I definitely recommend the new Pub On Penn. It's a great neighborhood pub with a good vibe. Pay no mind to Jack A. I frequent the bar and have never seen the "frat boy" type hanging out. Sounds like a distressed old Netherworld fan to me. Top 40 blaring? Have yet to hear that as well. Not surprised that my previous review was "filtered". I went back last week to have another look and give it another try. After all, catching them so close to opening was probably not fair because they had just started. Well the conversion is complete. The weekly poker night has moved on, The pool people have moved on, and the regulars have moved on. Despite the assurances that things would not change, they did ( no surprise ) and despite the reviews that say the regulars are still there, they aren't ( again , no surprise ). The physical improvements are nothing short of amazing. The new patio is a great space, and the extra bike racks are very welcome. The food is definitely better, and more choices makes it worth trying. As I said before though, a unique place has become another cookie cutter sports bar. Chadtastic people all over - the cream of the entitlement scene. Expect top 40 music, narcissistic 20somethings spending daddy's money, and go team go! Love it. Love it love it love it. I went on a Wednesday after my friend suggested the unlimited wings for $5. Everything was amazing. As to be expected, it was hard to find a place to sit but once I did I settled in with a tall glass of Strongbow and got to work on the wings. As if living up to expectation the bartenders were very nice and friendly, and knowledgeable of their drinks. The wings were phenomenal and while I would have loved to get more than five at a time I realize wings that quality take time to pump out in such numbers. I've always enjoyed $5 all you can eat wing night and have been here a lot of Wednesday nights with friends. The only thing keeping me from giving this place a 5th star is that sometimes the service can be hit or miss. When it's it's there it's great! But maybe due to being short handed on occasion or something, I've had terrible service only a couple times. Not rude, the waitresses have always been kind and on point, but when it's bad you just get ignored completely it feels like. Doesn't happen often enough to be an issue with me personally and it definitely doesn't stop me from coming in for a drink or some wings or both! p.s. their other food is also pretty good as far as bar food is concerned. read more

Been here a couple times now for wing night and a couple other random occasions. On Wednesdays, it's hectic to say the least. Literally everyone's trying to get $5 wings, so seats maybe limited, drinks might take a little longer, and your wings might not come within 15 minutes. Service is pretty hit or miss on Wednesdays, but that's to be expected. Don't whine about it, be happy with what you get, because you're a guest at their establishment. Aside from wing night, this bar is excellent in my opinion. Happy hour is cheap and their fish and chips are some of the best I've tried in town. I first moved to Cap Hill a few years ago and went to the NetHerWorld (previous bar in this location) and enjoyed the quiet on Friday and Saturday nights...then Pub on Penn moved in and I swore to myself that I would not accept this change without some fight. But then something happened...the staff grow times 2, the patrons more than tripled, they painted over the black walls and took down the dead bodies from the rafters which made it easier to bring dates. The crowd is a mix between old NetHerWorld patrons, sports fans, and local lush's. I have never seen a fight because somehow everyone gets along. The service can get slow sometimes but the daily specials make up for it. cheers read more

I like this place - it's a good spot to grab a drink, shoot some pool, listen to good tunes, etc. This review would be 5 stars if not for the following incident. We love to play music on the juke box, sometimes it is even the biggest motivation to get through the week. A buddy of mine queued up some classic rock via the touch tunes app on a cellular device. The song played for 15 seconds before it was abruptly turned off. I'm suspecting the owner/bartender was behind this move but I can't prove it. read more

One of my favorite bars in Denver, hands down. I lived a couple blocks away and my friends and I would go regularly. The buy one, get one free chips were dangerous and, coming from California where drinks were expensive, it was easy to walk away pretty intoxicated without spending more than $40 total for two. Trivia nights were a blast and the bartenders are friendly enough. Great place for a snow day, to chill, watch the game, etc. Miss you guys read more

Wednesday is wing night!! I'm a fan of their $5 wing night. They have several varieties, naked, hot, barbecue, spicy garlic and and an Asian one (I think!). I recently discovered that you HAVE to order a soft drink or beer so it's technically not just $5, still a good deal nonetheless. My personal favorite is the spicy garlic. You have to order at least 5 wings at a time and I'm always mildy ashamed at how many wings I challenge myself to eat. The service here is good, in my experience. They're obviously super busy but I feel like the servers try their best. I would recommend getting here early, like before 6 if you want a table. I'm not a fan of the smoking on the patio, it's a personal preference so fyi. I'll definitely be back here! read more

After trying to find parking for 45 minutes to meet friends I was told I cannot come in because my license was 1 day expired, IN COLORADO THERE IS A 60 DAY GRACE PERIOD FOR RENEWING YOUR LICENCE, so mine should've been fine. They did gracefully allow me to use the restroom before I left and I had the opportunity to see the wings, they are $10 for all you can eat for a reason. Save your time and spend your $10 on decent wings, try The Piper Inn or Fire On The Mountain, not all you can eat, but you will want to eat them all. read more

I'm a fan! I first tried this place as a substitute for my normal hangout on Sunday for Bears games; it was great! Crowd was decent and I have to agree with an earlier comment; lots of different folks from different walks of life, and it works. NICE!!! Good selection of beers, service was on the speedy side, food was typical bar food, but tasty. They aren't going to win a culinary award, but it's good quality bar food, fast..... Loud. Local. BOGO. The volume in this place is ridiculous. They play mostly old pop jams and classic rock, but it's the totally plastered drunkies that makes it difficult to hear people less than 2 feet from you. Local crowds are awesome, but you do get a rather eclectic mix that I won't go too far to describe. Just imagine the combination of Colfax + LoDo + hipsters. Yep. The daily specials are pretty awesome -- even more so when you combine it with their buy one get one happy hour. Pool league, more than just an excuse to drink, you get to travel to other bars other than your "home" bar. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. Pool League has brought me to this establishment before when it was Cafe, but now it's Pub on Penn. Place looks better (IMO)- Big Buck Hunter and Skeet Ball -Oh yes Friends they do! 3 Pool Tables- you betcha! decent specials during the week. Trivia on Thursday- little crowded and the music was a bit too loud in the pool room while we had league but not that big of a deal. Kelley was our server, she was super sweet... a little flighty and kinda slow service, but she really was sweet as pie. My only beef is the parking! WTH! Only about 4 spaces in the front and back- sometimes takes 20 min of driving around the block to park- but that is more of the location. You get one answer from one employee, and a totally different answer from another employee, all on the same day! Interior - dark, ok, nothing to brag about. Service - Not So Good! I feel weird about this place. I really like it, but I couldn't really tell you why. It's not really anything special, your average "pub" scene. Beer isn't especially cheap, the food isn't especially good, but for some reason I really like this place. It's huge, which helps when you're with a group and you want your own area. I've only came here on Wednesdays for their all you can eat wings, but I've came back time and time again so I do enjoy this place. The all you can eat wings is only $5 dollars with a drink and usually we just go ahead and get a pitcher so it's a great deal and no one else can beat it. This place does get packed and parking and waiting for a table can be tough, but somehow each time we are quite successful in getting a table within 20 minutes. I typically come with a group of three or four, but sometimes was actually able to have more people meet up with us for a group of ten and were able to sit together although that was tough. The flavor of the wings is good. My favorite are traditional hot as well as the Asian. The others are ok too except for bbq- I will never order that kind ever again. The wing deal is all the way from 5pm to 11pm and the closer it is to 11 the less crowded it is and easier to get in. If you do arrive between 5 and 8 just be prepared to spend a while there. read more

This is what a local bar and a good bar should be. Yes, the wait staff can be a bit slower on their busy times (Friday, Saturday, Sunday during football season), but on the whole they're responsive. If you come in more often, they always remember you, the owner is around often and waiter staff AND bartenders remember your name. Know what that makes this place? A neighborhood bar. Its not perfect, but it'll always have a beer for you and some grub in your belly. If you're in the neighborhood and looking to make a bar home, I say give this place a shot. Cheap stiff drinks? Check. Inexpensive bar food? Check! Friendly staff in a neighborhood dive? Double check. I've been coming here for years now and will continue for years to come. The staff with remember your name and the regulars are like family, if you're new to the neighborhood and want to meet people there's no better place and if you want to drink in silence they've got your back. There's no discrimination when it comes to being part of the family, and if you want a local watering hole to call home pub is it. The owner is present daily and takes great care of his staff and guests and it really shows how passionate he is about his business! Also the only dive bar that actually enforced the mask rule that I've seen and tables/people are distanced! So kick back with a pitcher of beer and a burger and (safely) enjoy yourself. I have a strange affinity for this place. I usually call it Nerd Bar, because it's full of Burners and people in trench coats with hair like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. A nice unpretentious alternative. It's a good place to camp out with a computer for while, listen to punk and 90s industrial on the jukebox. Decent bar food, good service, really nice people. LOVE THIS PLACE! This is probably one of my favorite local hangouts. You can go in on a Wednesday and they are PACKED (probably because of the $5 all you can eat wings)... Last time I was in, I was with a bachelorette party and we were on a scavenger hunt with some pretty "impossible" items. Adam was there and he was so great and accommodating (even though we were probably a bit obnoxious). This place is a fun atmosphere and a great local hang out. Can't say enough about this place. I showed up for all you can eat wings and was very impressed. Even though it was packed, the staff was very helpful. I wasn't even done with my wings before the waitress was back asking if I wanted more. While there, we saw an older man who looked like the owner or manager going around and working side by side with the staff. He checked in on guests and was very helpful as well. All together the team they have at Pub on Penn is on point, keep it up! The place is just a typical bar. I loved it cause there were two big screens by us, one with the NBA playoff game and another with a hockey playoff game....these games were the whole reason we went out for drinks. Now the wings! It's not the typical lazy, all you can eat wings....these are great tasting, fresh wings that come in a variety of flavors. If you go, try them out. Wow...just what the doctor ordered!! It's so hard to find a great pub...and this place checks all the boxes! Strong drinks....check....good food....check....lots of sports....legendary regulars. Just an amazing place. Been here three times...doesn't matter who the bartender is....you'll be good. Although...a couple are spectacular. I'm a heterosexual male and have innapropriate dreams about mike and liam. But shouldn't a great bartender make you question your sexuality? Thank god for Kirstin...she reminds me who I am.
