This place is awesome for the most part. Cheap drinks and a real dive. Cheap pool table that's actually taken care of. However, I must add, my experience here on 1/25/20 was different. Came in to a grumpy bartender who demanded to see my ID before I even used the ATM machine for their cash only establishment. This guy was older, and couldn't be more different than Pete, the badass owner. When I asked if he could change me out some quarters for the pool table he said "yes, I would mind" and didn't give me two dollars in fucking quarters. This is at a cash only bar. I then asked him again and he relented. An hour later, a friend I was with asked about the price difference between well and another gin, the old grump interrupts and asks rudely, "so what do you want!!?" Overall, I'm not expecting posh service. But this bartender was an asshole and shouldn't be working in any service area. If you're going to be a grouch from the second I'm coming in, you're not going to get tipped, either. read more

Being relatively new to town, I've spent the last couple of months sampling different businesses, hoping to discover which ones will be "mine" so that I may frequent them on a permanent basis. I can't say I've visited enough bars in Denver to have settled on "my" bar, but this is far and away the leading candidate. For sure one I will be coming back to time and again, especially when entertaining out-of-town guests to show off the best of what my city has to offer. PS is my kind of place. For starters, the location could only be more convenient if it were walking distance from my house. It's on the perfect stretch of East Colfax, close to plenty of restaurants and music venues and less than 10 minutes from any place downtown. PS is just the right size inside, with an adorable bar and several booths for larger parties. The lights are turned down low, there's a jukebox and the decor takes you back to Colfax's golden days as Denver's true neon marathon. That nostalgia alone can make me appreciate its cash-only nature like few other businesses can. Those who have reviewed previously and been here many more times than me can say it better. It's a unique dive that Denver so desperately needs; removed from the crowded and flavorless LoDo scene. Making the Colfax circuit on any given night, you can catch a show at the Bluebird, stop here for the after-party and cap it off with breakfast at Pete's. But the best thing is, you don't always need to do those other things either in your evening plans. The PS Lounge is good enough to stand on its own. read more

It is impossible for me to think about the PS Lounge and not get a big old smile on my face. In fact, I'm pretty sure my body contorts automatically into "cute and cuddly" mode. There's something about this unassuming bar that makes me want to crawl into one of the booths and never leave. Yeah, Pete still gives every girl that comes in a rose and yeah, the jukebox is just awesome (I especially loves the CD of traditional Greek tunes). I don't love pool, but I hear it's a great place to play. I think what makes me love this bar is the fact that it's Pete's bar. He puts up what he likes on the walls. He's not trying to impress anyone with the bar's trendy drinks or ultra-mod decor. It's almost like a museum of Pete. There are pictures of him with celebrities from the 60s and 70s on the wall and almost any time I go there, Pete is there, sipping coffee and talk/mumbling about something to an old timer at the bar. Even the staff is down to earth and easy to get along with. What makes me love this bar is its authenticity and it's so refreshing to go into a bar and feel that these days. Thanks, Pete! read more

Who cares for the LoDo BS when you've got PS?! Seriously, this is the kinda bar I want to hang in. A large group of us went for happy hour on a Sat. It was dead, I mean dead. For the longest time, we were the only people in the bar, it was like our own private party hosted by none other than Pete! Man, he treated us so good. He knew we were celebrating birthdays. He kept the shots comin, I mean tray after tray after tray full. They were not the "house special" either. He kept giving us beers too! Let's just say this, we all walked outta there quite tipsy! Our tabs were all less than $20...amazing, especially after a solid 3 hours of drinking! I will be updating this review, but I just had to share what an awesome time we had and how well Pete treated us. 5 stars for a great little place! Thanks to our friends for introducing us to this place, we now visit almost anytime we see a show at the Bluebird, or close by for that matter. It's small, dark, and has a fun little retro feel to it. You get a free shot with your first round and ladies always get a rose! Plus drinks are extremely reasonably priced here. I'm pretty sure that each time we were here we have had the same bartender. I don't know her name, but she is great. Always friendly and always organized. There is a jukebox and a pool table (or 2?) to enjoy while you sip on your drinks. Grab a pizza from next door too, it's delicious! Last time the owner came out and chatted with all of us. PS Lounge used to be my local dive bar when I was a Denver property tax payer. It was a place you could go to get out of the summer heat or the winter cold, slide into a comfy booth, and work on a dose of lung cancer while getting gently plastered. Colorado outlawed smoking and I quit anyway, but it's still a great place to go get gently plastered. PS Lounge is the real deal. They have a bar stocked with all the stand-bys, a few popular beers on tap, and more beer in bottles for fancy f**ks. They don't take credit cards, they don't brook nonsense, and they don't do subtle. So if you're smart, you'll keep your drink order simple. What they do is keep the b.s. to a minimum, stay out of your way, and serve decent booze inexpensively. If you want to see some real old-timey dipsomaniacs, just look at the folks at the bar. They're here because PS Lounge is a dark place that serves alcohol for cash and leaves you alone. The jukebox is great if you're of a certain age, and the roses and Alabama Slammers are like something out of a Billy Joel song. Come to think of it, it's better if you just stay away from this place because there's no wifi, you can't get a decent cosmo there, and they have no apps menu. read more

LOVE the PS Lounge. LOVE IT. And not just because I'm pictured on the wall 1... 2... yeah 3 times. Rock. Star. How does one get pictured on the wall? Loyalty. Meeting Pete's mom. Bringing him a cake on his birthday. You know, the usual. As everyone else has mentioned, ladies get free roses. Sure the roses are on their last legs but it's a ROSE. It smells good. Stick your nose in it and enjoy it. And EVERYONE gets free Alabama Slammers, which may be light on liquor and taste kinda like baby aspirin, but are you really complaining about a free shot? I didn't think so. Overall the drinks are stiff and reasonably priced. The bathrooms are a little on the sketch side, but I recommend hopping over to Enzo's and using theirs. Take advantage of the small four-car lot next to Enzo's if there's a free spot, otherwise on the street or any nearby side street will do. And don't forget your cash-money. Yeah, cash only. This used to be one of our favorite places to go when we lived in City Park. Spent many a night belly up at this fine establishment. Although I remember one night, my husband and I came in totally tanked, he went to the bathroom, I sat at the bar and they said we are not serving you. I slurred, you are not going to serve me? I just moved to the area and decided to hit up the PS Lounge before having a bite to eat next door. I walked in, ordered a drink and then was informed they are a "cash only" establishment. I thought perhaps I had clicked my heels on accident and was somehow transported back to my hometown; but no, to my utter surprise, I was still in Denver. After a dispute with the bartender and a discussion with the owner, who was of little to know assistance and condescending, I offered to walk to the nearest ATM to provide the cash to pay for the drink I wouldn't be having either way. Fortunately, I wasn't forced to pay. Instead, I was allowed to leave, which was just dandy as far as I was concerned. Thank goodness for technology and those who pursue keeping their businesses current. read more

If you're going to be open until 2:00, be open until 2:00. PS Lounge is a great old-school dive bar. The only problem (and it's a huge one) is that you never know how late they'll be open. Very reasonably-priced drinks (cash only), a cheap and classic jukebox, and $0.50 games of pool are great, but not at all helpful if the lights are off and the door is locked at 11:15pm on a Thursday. Ownership (Pete) doesn't seem to have a concept of when he can make money. I can't imagine why he decides to close when he has 10-20 people in his bar willing to give him money for drinks. It's pretty frustrating when you take a Lyft or Uber to this potentially-great Bar just to find out they've decided to close 2-3 hours early. read more

Great dive bar over on Colfax. The inside is very charming with pictures of Elvis, old records and football teams. The staff is super friendly, and introduced themselves to our table and welcomed us to the hood, complete with roses for the ladies and alabama slammer shots (they tasted like candy but still good). Enzo's is right next door and you can order pies to be delivered to your table. The only downside to this place is that it's cash only. Boo! I must admit even though I realize EVERY girl gets a rose it made me feel pretty gosh darn special, I guess it's been a long time since this girl got a flower. Thanks Patrick! The shot was also nice and did indeed taste like a baby aspirin, I'm not sure I could sit around all evening slugging these babies back but one was nice and it looked all pretty with it's nice orange hue nicely complementing my ice cold PBR. Yum ...PB and R are 3 of my most favorite letters! Patrick was extremely good at what he does, he is the quintessential bartender and I liked him right away. He kinda reminded me of my dad and that made me feel good. Very chatty and funny and if you've met me for even 5 minutes you know how I like both of those things. Pete was also great and bought us a round! Thanks Pete, that was both kind and generous and as much as I enjoyed it I liked our conversation about current affairs and the state of the world even better! I love me a good chat! However we walked in and we are asked for our ID's and proof of vaccination! We turned right around and left. I heart the PS Lounge. I finally made it down to the PS, it was everything I could of hoped for. I went on a Sunday night. There were just a few people there. Just as all the other reviews said, I got a shot of the orange stuff. As Patrick the bartender put it, "it tastes like baby asprin." Everyone there was super nice. I have found my bar where I am going to go often! I do not think the decor has changed in the last 27 years they have been open. I would not change it one bit. Ohhhh was this ever fun. Walking back into my own little era there, the one I should have been born into but missed by several decades. The bartender/waitress was utterly lovely, Pete was interesting and mystifying as he sat with us for a while and told us his story, we ate a yummy pizza and got pleasantly schnockered in the rat pack feel of utter diveyness. There is some odd wackyness with how the money works (well, what I mean is you can't use a credit card) and the food comes from another establishment, and the patrons of each sort of migrate back and forth. One must have a food license, one must have a liquor license, and ne'er the twain shall meet. Or, they shall meet, but it requires some fancy footwork and what surely is a procedure frowned upon by licensing committees. That's Ok. It was worth it. My purple rose was perfectly fresh the next day (despite my having forgotten it under the car seat) and for reasons I cannot explain, STILL looks exactly the same in the vase on my nightstand. The free shots are wonderfully generous and the juke box was perfection. It's super-dark and tunnely and everything you want in a dive. How is it that I have never been to this place? Well... I asked Miss Kelly T and Grant B to accompany Ray and myself for a little Pizza and a a cocktail. We walked in and it was quiet and the booths all looked up at me and wanted me tochoose them... they are some very very comfy booths. I got my Rose and I got a shot. : ) woohooo I thought this was a fairy tale! how lovely to stop and smell the roses. Pete said hi to Grant and Kelly like they were old friends and got us a round. You walk into this place, and you instantly feel like a regular, even if you've only been a couple of times. Whoever is working the bar will act as if you guys go way back, and that makes me feel all warm inside. The bartenders and servers are attentive, without being annoyingly so. I love it. Every lady gets a rose, and everyone's first drink comes with a free shot: an Alabama Slammer. The rose is a nice touch, and the shot is the perfect sweetness to start off a night of drinking. Add in some truly random wall-hangings (I counted pictures of old rock stars, along with football helmets for the Bengals, 49ers and various other teams). But it's like this place is run by your cool uncle-- one who gives you free shots and owns a vintage jukebox. Adjacent to Enzo's Pizza, they share a symbiotic relationship, as you can order pizza and have it brought over to you. Just an all-around accessible and enjoyable place to down some alcohol. Being a huge fan of dive bars I was immediately drawn to PS and from the shag carpeting to the cash only bar (they do not have an ATM...the closest one is at a dodgy liquor store down the block) I was a fan! The place has huge booths for big groups and ladies you get a rose and a free house shot with your first drink! Now that is service! The night I went was pretty calm but many of my friends got good and silly before walking down to the Rock Bar. I am quite excited to go back to PS and go back in time for a night! read more

I like this place. With that being said I'll give an honest review. You come in and there's old decorations like your grandpas garage or an old vfw. It's a really cool atmosphere and it's really relaxed. There's a separate room with a pool table and you're able to order food from the pizza place next door at the bar. The bar tenders have always been pretty cool, and enjoyable. Don't expect anything crazy for drinks though. I suggest beer or shots. Anyway this is a great place to get away from the crowds and droves of obnoxious individuals you'll find at other places on colfax and around Denver. read more

We went to PS Lounge based on the reviews here. It is exactly as described: ladies get a rose; free Alabama Slammer shots; awesome bartender; Pete; the, um, decor; jukebox; pool table. Pete came and shook our hands and asked our names, where we were from and was otherwise very friendly. The bartender was the same way. People call this a dive bar, but there is nothing dive-y about it. There is no pervasive background smell of vomit and urine, you do not stick to the seats, you do not need waders near the bar to keep the slosh off your pants. This place is like the end of a 100-degree day when you get off the horse and get out of your heavy sweaty jeans and slip into a cool pool. It's like the hot tub after running a race. It's like a massage after all day on the stupid computer. Gone are the poseurs with labor-intensive hair dos and the painted trollops barely wearing something they paid 1/2 their salary for. The patrons are there to unwind, there is a refreshing absence of zoomage. We are going back, and we are bringing friends. read more

Wow do I love me some PS Lounge. Aside from the cheap booze, the cool clientel and the great atmosphere that is PS Lounge you get free shots!!! How can you not like a place like this. I love rummaging through the Juke and finding some great old school classics and just people watching. They have a nice little room for the pool table if your into that and they are attached to the pizza place next to it so that doesn't hurt either. Any establishment that resembles the bar in the basement of my grandparents house in KS gets 5 stars in my book! The retro motif just does it for me and it's a cozy little joint. The girls and I decided to stop in for a drink before dinner one Friday night. We bellied up to the bar and were instantly given a fragrant, fresh rose. The bartender was friendly and occasionally joined our conversation with some hilarious stories...and she sure didn't skimp on the Jameson in my cocktail. She informed us that Pete, the owner, left some credits on the jukebox, so I scurried on over and played a little Dusty Springfield and Steve Miller Band. High five on the older tunes, Pete! Some other patrons had ordered pizza from the adjoining restaurant and it smelled heavenly...and they actually deliver it to your table! Had we not already made dinner plans, I would have ordered a pie and kicked it at P S a little longer. This is the kinda 1960's looking dive-lounge that, when you stroll in, a few gristled regulars quietly sip on their Schlitz beer or Clamato & Budweiser or well brand tequila. They size you up and appear ready to reach behind the bar, grab the billy club (yes, they know where to find the billy club) and beat you sensleless at the first sign of skinny jeans or bullshit industry talk. Eventually tho, they tolerate your existence and may even throw you a grunt of approval. Before you leave, a drunken Santa buys you a drink, and you run into Mrs. Claus tossing her holiday cookies in the men's room sink. Bartenders are cool as shit. I walk in and join roommate and her new friends. I get my drink and out of no where Patrick, the bartender, lays a rose down in front of me. Instantly I was in love with the place. They clearly know the way to a girls heart. If it had been a poppy I probably would have proposed to the bartender on the spot. As if the rose wasn't enough, next thing you know, there is a shot placed in front of me. I was a little confused because I didn't remember ordering one, but Patrick reassured me that it was from Pete, the owner. That is how your night starts off, a rose for the ladies and a free shot to get the night going. AWESOME {in a sing songy voice} I will definitely head back to the P.S. Lounge. Got to start by hating on 5280. I was going to keep this place to myself until they went and voted it top of the town. It's the ultimate dive. I love a place that serves cheap booze, hands flowers to the lady friends followed by a cheap shot and then above all else takes pride in their bar. The place is old as sin and you can tell they take the time to polish their bottles, wipe down the booths and keep everything in pristine condition. I dare say, I would eat of there floor (if they had food). That being said, you can order from Enzo's next door and they will bring it over to you. Top notch stuff. A dive bar that actually brings you the greasy pizza from next door. Pretty sure same owner, but who cares. Pizza delivered to my bar stool makes me happy. Hit up the juke box and you've died and gone to dive bar heaven. So yes, this place is fanf'ntastic. Whyyyy have I not been here before this last Friday?!?!?! It was a rain-soaked Friday evening and a friend and myself made our way to PS Lounge as we did some good old Colfax bar hopping. There was something so inviting about the dark, almost gloomy interior. We were lucky enough to snag a booth as the bartender brought me a rose and free shots for the both of us. We didn't stay long, but I wish we would have, and I know I will be back. The dive-y-ness was spot on, the drinks were cheap (and some free), and the vibe was great. The P.S. Lounge is my bar. On the east end of colfax where hipster meets abandonment of gentrification, we get amazing establishments like PS, , Mezcal, the BlueBird, Annies, and of course: Rock Bar. The crowd in PS can be summed up as such: diverse & drunk :) whether it's hipster kids getting a kick out of the jukebox or lifers staring at the wood bar & worn carpet, everyone wants to be there. This place is pretty unique amongst dive bars. The ambiance definitely screams of 1970's lounge and the bartenders will not create a tab so bring plenty of cash. The owner is a pretty funny Greek dude that kinda dwells in the background of the place and occasionally comes around and talks to you. They have a great selection of bourbon.
