Whyyyy have I not been here before this last Friday?!?!?! It was a rain-soaked Friday evening and a friend and myself made our way to PS Lounge as we did some good old Colfax bar hopping. There was something so inviting about the dark, almost gloomy interior. We were lucky enough to snag a booth as the bartender brought me a rose and free shots for the both of us. We didn't stay long, but I wish we would have, and I know I will be back. The dive-y-ness was spot on, the drinks were cheap (and some free), and the vibe was great. The P.S. Lounge is my bar. On the east end of colfax where hipster meets abandonment of gentrification, we get amazing establishments like PS, , Mezcal, the BlueBird, Annies, and of course: Rock Bar. The crowd in PS can be summed up as such: diverse & drunk :) whether it's hipster kids getting a kick out of the jukebox or lifers staring at the wood bar & worn carpet, everyone wants to be there. This place is pretty unique amongst dive bars. The ambiance definitely screams of 1970's lounge and the bartenders will not create a tab so bring plenty of cash. The owner is a pretty funny Greek dude that kinda dwells in the background of the place and occasionally comes around and talks to you. They have a great selection of bourbon. I love the PS Lounge. It's within walking distance from my house, which is wonderful because I never leave here sober. Drink prices are very reasonable. It's like stepping back into the 70s. Every girl gets a rose when you walk in - I probably have gotten more roses from this bar than I have from dudes. The owner is great. I use to adore this place but I've been kicked out so many times by Pete that I'm only giving it 3 stars. Also the fact that they do not accept credit cards is really annoying. I've been kicked out of many bars in Denver, and even a bowling alley once, for a lot of good reasons. At the PS, I have never really done anything wrong except say a few curse words too loudly. I mean come on Pete? You own a bar along Colfax and you freak out whenever someone says "shit" to loud? But as the Colfax Crawl goes, this place is a most stop for just the atmosphere. We normal start our night here and work our way toward the mountains. We start here because it never takes long to piss Pete off (it's like a little game at this point), and then we are on our way. read more

I am a fan of PS Lounge, because who doesn't like a place where you get a free shot (and a rose if you are a lady) when you order your first drink? I love taking my friends that need a pick up here, as they are always surprised by the shot and the rose. The bartenders are usually pretty awesome, but there are a few that just seem to hate being there. They have pool tables, but I have never played it there. Definitely, a great dive bar to hit up when you are in that part of town. read more

Unfortunately, after a delayed flight though a blizzard and a cabby who couldn't find the place, so I had to trail break through 2 feet of snow, kinda annoyed me. I've been looking for a place that makes me feel like it's "my bar from back home" and this fits the bill. It's cash only, just like the place back home, it's filled with deep booths and a good amount of bar space, just like it is back home and the people I've met have been normal (which is a huge plus) no one trying to over impress and say look at me I'm better than you because I buy extra expensive drinks and overpriced everything else, you know who you are. Super friendly bar tender Patrick, strong (& cheap) drinks, and a red rose for ladies makes this a fun stop before a show at The Bluebird across the street. You can even have pizza brought in from joint connected to it. The decor hasn't been updated in about 30 years, but that kind of adds to the charm. read more

They've got an old school juke box, pool table, and a pizza restaurant next door that you can have delivered to the bar. We went here last night and the vibe here was relaxing. It was perfect place to relax and have drinks. Loved getting a rose from this place. We had a great conversation with Kelly, and we made use of playing music on the jukebox. Pete even gave the people in the bar which it was a few of us a shot on the house, not including the one that first one you get when you order your first drink. Highly recommend. Started my short-lived "Colfax Pub Crawl" last week at PS Lounge. Dark lighting but nice comfy atmosphere with good music playing from the jukebox. I like that the place was quiet and seemed like it would easily recruit "regulars". In fact, had a friendly conversation with a guy who sat comfortably and threw out trivia questions about Denver haunts. Thanks to random guy for clueing me in to actually posting feedback on Yelp, and more. For those that appreciate rotating taps be forewarned they only serve bottled beers, though they have a great selection that includes local microbrews. Any disappointment I experienced at the bottle-only selection was beat by the fact that I was served an Alabama slammer and a white rose with my beer. And although I didn't take advantage, you can order food from the attached Enzo's End Pizza. Across from the Bluebird. Jukebox! Bottled beers. The bartenders work hard. Those women are great, but they work for a world class racist A-hole. Pete, I am talking to you. Most nights you are skulking in the shadows and randomly hassling people. I used to go because the bar is walkable from my house and would be an otherwise great dive bar, but I can't tolerate how Pete treats people. The night I decided would be my last visit, I had been talking to a software developer who was African born but lived all over for school and had been in Portland a number of years. The irony is that he was just expressing how he felt that Denver was not very diverse and that he was having a hard time fitting in. He asked if I would watch his drinks while he went to the restroom. He covered them with a coaster and went to find the restroom. I continued talking with my roommates. When he came back a few minutes later, he thanked me and removed the coasters to take a sip. That is when Pete, the owner ran over and stopped him from taking a sip. He told him to get out and that he didn't want him there. In his broken manner of speaking Pete said the man was stealing drinks. The man was there before I came him. I watched him order his drinks, he also bought drinks for my room mate, myself and her friend, so I was sure he wasn't stealing drinks. He tried to explain that the drinks were his and that he was only in the bathroom for 2 mins. Pete was in his face calling him a liar. There were 2 bartenders and the one that served was taking a break. The man insisted he had been served and paid for his drinks and now was getting upset. I spoke up clarifying. Pete would not listen. He said "we will see when she came back if she served you" The man asked what was his issue and Pete came right out and told him, he didn't like him, he didn't like black people. My jaw was on the floor. As the bartender came back, the man was asking her to explain to Pete, but was cut off by the little troll, "You served him? you served this black..." She answered before he finished that she did and that the guy had been there sitting at the bar in front of Pete for a couple hours and ordered multiple drinks. Pete said ok with a scowl, but the damage was long finished. The man was upset told Pete where to go and left his two nearly full drinks. My roommate, her friend and I quickly closed out and left as well. There are much better options: Goosetown, Mezcal, Atomic, Stella, Lost Lake to get your whistle wet in that neighborhood. I can't give money to a jerk who treats people that way and hates so openly. read more

Just moved into the neighborhood, figured id check the place out seeing as I need a new after work watering hole. The sign outside reads happy hour 3 till 6. Asked the old man behind the bar what the happy hour specials were. He asked if I had ever been to the establishment before to which I said no..he then asked if I had been drinking. Alright dude you obviously just have something against making money, because I was one of three people in that bar. The only sober one for that matter maybe for the exception of your sorry ass, the other two people looked like a used up east colfax hooker, the other a used car salesman who's wife had just left him after hearing he got fired again. So needless to say I won't be making ps lounge my home away from home. Sorry for whoever owns this place, that dude is taking would be money outta your pocket read more

Came in tonight with my two friends and sat the the bar, the girl serving us was rude and made us feel like she didn't want us there. We were just trying to find a new place to grab a drink that was local! We checked yelp and it had great reviews, so we thought we would give it a chance! I asked for a bud weiser draft and she had an attitude saying we only have bottled beer. The service was horrible and it was the worst service I have ever had! Walking into PS Lounge is like walking into your grandmother's house, that is comforting, cozy, warm, and ageless (OK, maybe aged but in the good sense). A rose and a shot are brought to the table every time but each time makes me feel special. (I like that Tang and peach schnapps shot before my beer.) And I love that you can order at Enzo's and have your pizza delivered to your table piping hot (which BTW, I did for the first time before the April Yelp event). And I too like the music mix in the jukebox. This is such a nice place to hang on Colfax. read more

I took my friends here because it normally is a good spot but not today. At this point I would not recommend anyone to go. I can now understand why they never have any one there. Me and my two friends went here looking for a relaxing and low key place to have some cheap drinks. Everyone was so welcoming and even gave us each a yellow rose along with some free drinks and shots. Old school bar virtually untouched by time (i.e. carpeted stairs and metal railing leading up to the bathrooms). There's a pool table and a great jukebox, plus you can get a slice at Enzo's Pizza next door. Was here recently for a friend's birthday and had a blast. I'm torn between four and five stars for P S Lounge. Basically, I think it's awesome. Sometimes (okay, most of the time), I really don't want to be in a loud, scene bar, and while I have been to my fair share of exactly those bars, and unfortunately spend most of my out-nights in bars of exactly that description, my preference is always to be in a dark semi-divey place that's kind of empty and has a great jukebox. P S fits this description perfectly, plus there are a couple of things that set it apart. First of all, every lady gets a rose- and lets face it ladies, sometimes it's nice to get something pretty for no reason at all. In that same vein, everyone gets a free Alabama Slammer. I don't think I've ever had an Alabama Slammer prior to my visit to P S Lounge, but I appreciate any booze I do not have to pay for. So far, that's two freebies just for walking in the door. On my last visit Pete himself was in, and bought my friend and I another shot of our choice. Thanks Pete! It definitely turned my crappy, cranky, tired day into something to smile about. I also have to say that the bartenders are so sweet and friendly. Really, I can't think of anything negative to say about P S Lounge, except that I wonder why I don't go there more often. She's not the prettiest girl on the block, but definitely worth checking out. There's not an ounce of pretension, and it's all aces. Five stars! read more

I really love this place. There's something about the combination of getting a complimentary shot, roses for the ladies, the inevitable conversations about who put the Bee Gees on the juke box, and the occasional pizza coming over from next door that lets peoples guard down a bit, creating a spontaneous little community feel amongst strangers nearly every time I go there. Lots of friendly banter, great bartenders, and Pete himself ensuring everyone's having a good time. Sort of like a scene from Cheers but where nobody knows your name. I fervently agree with all the other reviews.....Whether it is just my girlfriend and I, or a group before a show at the Bluebird, we ALWAYS have a good time. Funny sh!t just always happens, rock the juke, get Enzos pizza, kill beers, switch to strong cocktails, then shots, bullsh!t with bartenders, owner, etc. I just feel more comfortable here than most of the places I go. Thinking about going out on the town with friends? Try holing up at the PS all night....it'll turn out to be a good time. read more

The P.S. Lounge has been one of my go-to haunts for 16 years, but I'm sad to say that what I witnessed there this evening was one of the most blatant displays of racism I've ever seen. It was a busy evening and two young African American women walked in and sat down at the only vacant booth and were approached by an employee. This was a certain elderly gentleman who's been omnipresent at the bar for as long as I've been going there, one whose surly demeanor has always been part of the kitschy appeal of the bar, (until tonight). First he walked over to the women and told them the booth was taken, gesturing to a group of people standing nearby, (this despite the fact that the booth was empty). The women then checked in with the patrons he indicated to verify that they could take the booth and got the go-ahead. They sat down only to be hassled again by the employee. He told them that the booth was reserved for groups, and that he would ask them to leave if one showed up. At this point the women politely got up and left without a word. Having checked in with them as they waited for an Uber outside I found out they were completely sober, just wanting to stop in for a drink before heading to a show elsewhere. I would be remiss not to point out that most of the people who work at the P.S. Lounge are very sweet, and that I've had dozens of positive experiences there. Unfortunately that's what makes this so very disappointing. Here's to you old man: being crotchety is only cute is you can keep your time tested bigotry to yourself. Don't be the downfall of the bar you so clearly love. read more

Awesome. Went to PS Lounge last weekend for my birthday and it was every bit as good as yelp lead me to believe. Free shots? Yep. Roses? Yep. And located on my favorite street ever? Excellent. Not to mention that the other drinks we got were super cheap. I can't believe I've been wasting my money downtown instead of coming here! The bartender was very friendly, even though we were a large, loud group of increasingly drunk kids. Really the only downside is that the bar is cash-only, which some of the people in my group weren't prepared for. But the drinks were so cheap it wasn't hard to pay for a few extras! I could definitely see myself coming here again and again. read more

This is one of my favorite places in town hands town! The staff is great and friendly. The juke box has lots of old fun songs to play and the free shots are a nice start. This is where you go when you just want to have a good time and relax with friends. No BS about how you look or what your wearing here. Everybody is family at the PS lounge! The pizza from Enzo's is to die for and the staff is classic over there! Bring cash because the lounge is old school baby no plastic! The first time I went to PS, I got to the door and it was locked. I was walking back to my car and a man came out of the restaurant across the street and asked if he could help me. It turned out to be the owner, Pete. he walked me back to the bar, unlocked the door and got me a beer. We sat there and shot the s$%& for the next hour. Nicest guy in the world. has watched Colfax come and go and come again. The Roses for the ladies, the free shots for all and the jukebox are all good reasons to go but the reason it can't be missed is Pete and the folks behind the bar. This bar has the pictures on the wall of a Hollywood dive bar and the red vinyl of a N. Y village hangout. It like walking into a David Lynch film. read more
