The P.S. Lounge has been one of my go-to haunts for 16 years, but I'm sad to say that what I witnessed there this evening was one of the most blatant displays of racism I've ever seen. It was a busy evening and two young African American women walked in and sat down at the only vacant booth and were approached by an employee. This was a certain elderly gentleman who's been omnipresent at the bar for as long as I've been going there, one whose surly demeanor has always been part of the kitschy appeal of the bar, (until tonight). First he walked over to the women and told them the booth was taken, gesturing to a group of people standing nearby, (this despite the fact that the booth was empty). The women then checked in with the patrons he indicated to verify that they could take the booth and got the go-ahead. They sat down only to be hassled again by the employee. He told them that the booth was reserved for groups, and that he would ask them to leave if one showed up. At this point the women politely got up and left without a word. Having checked in with them as they waited for an Uber outside I found out they were completely sober, just wanting to stop in for a drink before heading to a show elsewhere. I would be remiss not to point out that most of the people who work at the P.S. Lounge are very sweet, and that I've had dozens of positive experiences there. Unfortunately that's what makes this so very disappointing. Here's to you old man: being crotchety is only cute is you can keep your time tested bigotry to yourself. Don't be the downfall of the bar you so clearly love. read more

This place rocks. Best bar in Denver. Service is second to none and the atmosphere is original and not contrived in the slightest.

this bar is what every single hipstery dive bar is trying so hard to be but ultimately fails at. from the photographs on the wall to the old faded pictures of hollywood stars from the 40s and 50s to the greco roman statues draped with mardi gras beads...there is nothing forced or fake or pretentious about this place. its the kind of bar you can go to in order to enjoy a few drinks and their typical jukebox with some old friends. or you can slide up to the bar, pound an MGD and walk away. or you can play board games with the bar tender. or you can enjoy your pizza delivered to you from enzos next door. i am afraid of blowing this bar's spot up. i am afraid that i will walk in one day and find it filled with bros with ironic facial hair and girls with irritating eyewear. but i feel safe knowing that the staff and the owner of this amazing place wont let that bullshit happen. this is a regulars bar....the kind of place that wants to get you drunk and keep you there. i like it. (Also they will probably present you with a rose if you're a lady. take it. its for you. it made me uncomfortable but now that i think about it? its charming and delightful.) read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this bar. I have no clue how they make any money, the drinks are so cheap. The friendliest service I've ever encountered. Gotta love a free rose and shot when you arrive. The crowd is low-key and talkative. I make new friends every time I walk in. I'll definitely make this a regular stop every time I'm in Denver. read more

Yes, I love it. The brown pleather barstools, the Greek Goddess statues, the cheese-ball juke box, the strange crowd and the race for Enzo's pizza at the end of the night. All make for an awesome time in my book. Plus, most of the time Pete (the owner) is there and sometimes he likes to play mean tricks on his patrons. In the way of too many shots. Okay, we are old guys and don't do late night bars anymore. We are now cocktail hour kinda people. We had some time to kill on a Sunday evening, and stuck our heads into P S Lounge. What a surprise! It is a clean and classy dive bar. The bartender was an old hat, and knew how to make a drink. I appreciate that as I am so tired of kids who don't know how to bar-tend. We had great cocktails, a great atmosphere, great conversation with the bartender. And then the bill came. WOW, cheap call drinks too!! (It was happy hour) It doesn't get any better than this. I love love love this place! Not only do they give flowers to the ladies, they always greet you with an Alabama Slamma shot when you sit down! Their drinks are cheap cheap, and they share a wall with Enzo's pizza, so you can order in from next door. Enzo's pizza is amazing with its perfect, thin, crispy crust and just the right amount of toppings. Also, if you are a jukebox junkie, you will like the selection at PS Lounge. Everything about the place is great, right down to the wall art which is a compilation of old memorabilia and pictures of frequent quests pinned up on their wood paneled walls. Yep thats right, wood paneling is back, my friend! They also give free shots throughout the night, which is awesome. They don't have any beer on tap, but have a decent selection of bottle drinks. Just be aware, they only take cash. So make a pit stop at the ATM before you get there! read more

O P.S. Lounge, how do I love thee? Let me Yelp the ways... On a chill Sunday night, I joined a few Yelpers on their walk from Encore to P.S. Lounge to further wind down from the weekend. I have to admit the initial impression had me a bit worried about how my future review would turn out. It was quite dim, with only a couple people sitting in a booth. I quickly reminded myself it was Sunday night, and followed New Friends to the bar where we met one of the most lovely bartenders; Patrick. He reminded me of the comforting bartender who kindly places a bar napkin to catch tears as he gently tops off the beer-crier's drink. (FYI: I witnessed this only in my imagination, but he fit quite perfectly in the made-up scenario). I would add the fifth star, but if you follow my reviews, you know the fifth star is not easily given, and with only one visit to P.S. Lounge I had to leave a star out since I wasn't quite overwhelmed with the wow factor. The decor is not elegant, but it did make me chuckle at the way it contradicted itself: a seeming Mother Mary statue with beads around her neck on the same shelf as the glass bottle which held - instead of a ship - bottles of liquor, the outside of the bottle read "Break in case of emergency". The rest of the decor was quite random (though I'm sure it is relative to Pete, the owner, and company). Here are the things that will bring me back: Patrick the bartender who shared his knowledge when I mentioned my newness to the bar tending world. The (free) shots he poured for the ladies to accompany the roses he presented to us. Alabama Slammer: "You can't taste the liquor, but it sure is in there." -Patrick - Even better: Roommie and I walked back past the bar and Patrick was outside, he saw that Roommie didn't have her flower. When we informed him we gave the flower to a seeming homeless lady who needed a rose to brighten her night, he went in to fetch her a replacement. (Those flowers are now dried and displayed in the house). The comfortable I-could-wear-sweats-in-here-on-a-bad-night-and-still-feel-loved atmosphere. read more

All the reviews were spot on! We were looking for a place to grab a beer where we could actually have a conversation and this place was it! I received a rose, an orange flavored shot that was complimentary with purchase, and the jukebox was really good! All the reviews said great jukebox and I thought it was a weird comment. Retro signs on the roof, pictures of patrons on the wall, jukebox, grumpy sounding waitress. Part of the ambiance? Sure, I'll roll with it. Took a bit to figure out the roses and Alabama Slammers. Nice touch for the female patrons. I did avoid the Slammers. The color and description of "taste liquid jellybeans" was a turnoff. If you're seated here for Enzo's be sure to order drinks and tip the waitress well. They are both separate businesses, but it's nice they work together. PS is much cooler than Enzo's atmosphere. This is one of those bars that you can bring your mom, best friend, coworker. It is usually a diverse crowd. It is a huge plus that everyone gets a free shot when you come and girls get a rose. I came in on my birthday once and the owner face me a 10 gift certificate. If you are in the area be sure to stop by and get a couple of drinks. read more

As far as dive bars go, this place is awesome. Went to meet a friend one day when it had been raining. I got there before my friend and was the only person there. Sat at the bar and the bartender was incredibly friendly. Being a girl, I received a rose and a free shot which are nice touches. Was there during happy hour and the drinks were SO cheap. Place is also cash only, which isn't a big deal as there is an ATM inside. Told my husband all about the place and he's been really wanting to go. Will definitely go back. read more

This is as local of a place as you can get. Wood panelling, very friendly (roses handed out to the females and complimentary shot), etc. The cash only is really lame but the 50 cent pool table is always solid. Would I go back? Maybe. But probably just if I was with a girl who wanted the rose and the free shot. read more

If you look up the definition of a dive bar, you will find a picture of the PS Lounge. Walking in you need to prepare yourself for a dark entrance, an odd gift of a rose, and some strange shot that you won't turn down because it is free. When you get hungry after a few drinks and casual conversation, you have pizza options just through the connecting door. There is a pool table, a great juke box, and of course the ambiance of a dive bar. Just remember to bring cash if you are planning on drinking. And come back again and again. read more

It's a bar. Whenever I read "has a great jukebox", I think to myself, not Touchtunes. Well this amazing jukebox skipped my Bee Gees song "How can you mend a broken heart". The CD must have been dirty because it started the song then hiccupped to my Madonna jam. I have feelings and needed the Bee Gees to comfort me with their harmonies.
