Brunch here was absolutely delicious! They have a very trendy dining room and have a coffee bar where you can also get grab n go items. I stayed for brunch and would recommend to anyone going to Ames. I was with a larger group and they were able to accommodate us quickly. They have a waitlist you can join ahead of time which helps especially if you have a larger group. I had the provisions breakfast and finished my plate. The breakfast potatoes were crispy and the old bay seasoning added extra flavor. Our server was helpful and attentive. Awesome brunch! I'll be back!

I went to Provisions for dinner on a weekend, and one thing to note upfront is that their menu varies significantly by time of day. I originally walked in at brunch, only to realize the menu was completely different and fairly limited for vegetarians. So, we came back for dinner instead. I'd recommend going for lunch or dinner on a weekday, or dinner on the weekend, if you're looking for more vegetarian-friendly options. We started with the sourdough onion rings, which were excellent. They came with a chipotle-style sauce that paired incredibly well with the onion rings and really elevated the dish. For entrées, we ordered the crispy rice salad, the barley ravioli, and a side salad. Starting with the crispy rice salad: when I hear "crispy rice," I usually expect pan-fried jasmine rice as the base. This wasn't that. Instead, it was more of a fresh salad with avocado, cashews, a peanut dressing, and a few crispy rice puffs on top. While it wasn't what I expected and was initially disappointing, the salad itself was very good and made with fresh ingredients. I added tofu, which was cooked well and paired nicely with the flavors. I'd order it again if I were specifically in the mood for an Asian-style salad, just know it's not a rice-based dish. The barley ravioli was beautifully presented and cooked perfectly. It was very soft and topped with fried onions, which added a unique savory element. The cranberries and oranges brought a sweet contrast that worked well overall, though the dish did lean quite sweet for a savory entrée. Dessert was the highlight of the meal. We ordered the banana toffee bread pudding, which was served warm with ice cream and was absolutely delicious, the perfect way to end the meal. Service was very good, the ambience was pleasant, and I appreciate that Provisions continues to change and refresh their menu.

This place is on my top 25 favorite restaurants of all time. I went YEARS ago on a work trip and finally was able to return. Let me tells you, they are still just as excellent as I remember. I ordered 3 appetizers for my meal. Starting with the baked brie, warm gooey middle with a crunchy walnut topping. They served it with crostinis which were absolutely delicious and paired perfectly. Then I dug into the house roasted brussels sprouts. Crispy, savory, and piled high with cheese and a balsamic glaze. Finally I finished with chicken liver. It was cooked in a rosemary, blackberry, and bourbon. Honestly I have not been able to find (or make) chicken liver as delicious as this. The restaurant is beautiful and upscale in a modest way. It's a place you must check out!!

Had this salmon dish at Provisions Lot F and it was really solid. The salmon was cooked just right, flaky, moist, and glazed with a light sweetness that didn't overpower the fish. The rice underneath soaked up the sauce perfectly and added a little heat without being too much. The green beans were a great side too, still crisp with a bit of char, plus the sesame seeds and crunchy topping gave it some extra texture. Everything on the plate worked well together without feeling heavy. Simple, well-done, and satisfying

Salmon entree $27 with beets and fennel

This place's entree options and bakery case was very reminiscent of The Cafe and had me wondering if the owners were the same or if the restaurants were somehow related. Anyway, I had salmon again for a second takeout dinner in a row, but the preparation here was disjointed and a hodge podge of flavors. The walnut rice crispies just made me angry because just classic white rice would have been solid with the salmon. The rest of the accoutrements were clashy and confusing. No thank you to the blood orange reduction, beets, and fennel. The saving grace of my meal was the French silk pie. It was $7 for a slice, if my memory is correct. It was creamy, sweet but not overly so, and silky and rich in flavor. So satisfying and my absolute favorite flavor of pie! My stomach is grumbling as I write this. In summary, skip the salmon, but don't skimp on dessert! That was one good looking bakery case.

Apple strudel

I was visiting my niece at Iowa State University, and we came here for dessert this time around. But we also ate dinner here last time. This is a nice restaurant with very good food at decent prices. The service has been good both times. For dessert we got the Apple strudel and the chocolate cake. The Apple strudel was very good with light flaky crust and tasty apple fillings. The chocolate cake wasn't overpowering sweet and had a salty caramel taste to the chocolate frosting. If I visit my niece again, I'll be back.

Tuna tartare

Once again I am so grateful for Yelp for helping me find an amazing restaurant last minute while traveling. Atmosphere was beautiful and Ella our server was very nice and helpful with the menu. My Dad and I shared the tuna tartare. Loved the house made crispy crackers it was served with. I was a little underwhelming with the brussels sprouts caesar salad. It seemed like the kitchen forgot the dressing. Very dry. Sausage mushroom pizza was perfect. Crust was crisp but still chewy. And fluffy. Crimini mushrooms were a treat. The star of the meal was the special of the evening. (Ella recommended) beef short ribs on top of creamy potatoes and carrots. The flavor was outstanding and the meat melted in your mouth. Check out this restaurant if you are in Ames Iowa

BLTA pizza

Food was very good. Very good inexpensive bottle of Pinot noir! Sourdough onion rings were Fantastic! Curry tomato bisque had just enough hint of curry to taste but was not overpowering. BLTA pizza was super tasty and very filling! The cinnamon caramel bread pudding was absolutely fantastic!!! Definitely recommend!

Made a trip to Ames to take my college student out for breakfast and hang out. He suggested we go to a chain restaurant and I suggested we could do better. And man did this place deliver. Both of us loved our food. Chia pudding bowl for me that was plentiful with an English muffin and he had french toast with apple crumble that was absolutely amazing! He was especially impressed with the orange juice and how fresh it was. I need to come visit him more often so we can try other menu items. Service was good and the atmosphere was trendy but comfortable. They also have a little coffee shop with baked goods that looked like a fun grab and go option.

From other Yelp reviews, this place looked like a good place to try. Walking in, it first reminds you of a dive bar and staff were a little slow to seat us on a Thursday lunch but once we got our seats, service was speedier and we were eating soon enough. Service was attentive and our waitress made sure we had things taken care of. The best bang for your buck (or at least for my family of five) was ordering the family sampler platter. We got an assortment of meats including pulled pork, brisket, sausage, and chicken. We also tried the baked beans, mac and cheese, and waffle fries. Portions for the sampler are huge and filled us all up with a little extra left over. The BBQ was really good, just what we were wanting. You can't have good BBQ without good sauce (my opinion) and Jethro's had an assortment to find just the right one for the meat/entrée you were eating. Definitely a great stop, I'm glad we took a small detour to find this location.

It's a very relaxing Irish pub vibe with a variety of seating options and lots of TVs. Our drinks came out quickly and the food followed shortly thereafter. I got a martini and it was very well prepared. My wife got a glass of wine from their decent wine list. For dinner, I had the lamb burger, which was quite tasty. It was a good combination of flavors and the fries were hot and crisp. My wife got a naked burger with a side salad. The creamy Parmesan was very tasty and it was a nice bed of greens. A table next to us had some sort of a problem with one of the dinners and the server tried many many times to get the customer to order a replacement, but he said he was OK with what he got. When she brought the check to them she made sure to take that off since he did not eat it and would not accept a replacement. They seem shocked at this, but I wondered why they just didn't get a replacement! Great service by that server. She was also our server and did a fantastic job with us. 3/9/26 6:15 p.m…read more Dine-in Food: Our order was - Mushroom appetizer, Cheeseballs appetizer, Garlic Citrus Shrimp, Fish Sandwich w/fries & mayo, BBQ Swiss Burger, and a kids menu Mac & Cheese. Everything was delicious! Yes, the fries may be the frozen kind, but I feel like a lot of places use premade fries like that; it didn't take away from how good everything was. The Mushroom appetizer is SO good! Savory, crunchy, and cooked to perfection. Their ranch is also really yummy; it's the good ranch ;) The size of the mushrooms was surprising as well. Most places use small, white mushroom caps for their deep-fried mushrooms, but these were slices of large portobellos (I think lol). We also really enjoyed the cheeseballs. They were crispy with the perfect melted cheesy inside. The shrimp was plump, full of flavor, they were much bigger than I was expecting, and there were a lot more of them as well. Not to mention the vegetables that came with it (there is a lot more under the toast in the photo) were really good! My husband really enjoyed the BBQ Swiss burger. Our daughter tried a bite as well and said she should've ordered that instead of Mac & Cheese lol. The burger was juicy and had great flavor. My daughter loves Mac & Cheese, so of course she devoured her serving lol. The Fish Sandwich was big, cooked perfectly, not overly greasy, and very filling. Service: As we arrived, there was a sign out front that said "Please seat yourselves", so we did. We were greeted with smiles as we walked in and were brought menus pretty quickly. We were served in a timely manner and everyone we interacted with was pleasant and easy to talk to. They were really welcoming and made us feel comfortable while we were dining, even engaging in small conversations instead of the normal quick dash by that other places tend to do. I had asked about the seasoning on the veggies (because it's absolutely delicious) and they gave me a whole bottle of it to take home! I was shocked and incredibly thankful for their generosity! As we were checking out, they even offered my daughter a ring pop, since we had forgotten to order dessert :) They're incredibly nice and seem to really care about their customers. Ambiance: As you walk in, it smells fantastic! It's quite casual and welcoming. You feel comfortable, which is always a great feeling while you're out enjoying a meal. There is a TV, but it was off, which, in my opinion, was kind of refreshing lol. Overall, the noise level wasn't very high. It was just low, casual conversational chatter throughout the restaurant with the occasional kitchen sounds. The decor isn't overdone; it's homey feeling, which adds to the relaxed nature of the place. All in all, we will definitely be dining here again! We really enjoyed our experience and can't wait to try more menu items :)
