Strawberry dessert. The absolute best EVER. So light and fluffy.

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Ames. The food is absolutely amazing. You can tell that everything is made with care and love. Truly. The gyro is by far the best in town, and the desserts are right there with it. I have had and love almost everything on the menu. I try and visit once a week. The staff is so friendly and treats me like family.6 stars!

Flame & Skewer is a small, nice Greek family steakhouse located with the North Grand Mall, about a short ten minute drive from where our apartments are located. A few of my friends and I headed out to go see a movie, and before the movie, made a stop by Flame & Skewer to grab a quick dinner. I ordered the Mo's salad, which consists of salad greens topped with gyro strips, Greek olives, tomatoes, pepperoncini peppers and feta cheese. The gyro was pretty good, though I will have to say I'm not a huge fan of salads that consist of just lettuce as their main greens (iceberg lettuce is kind of hard to finish off by itself). My friend got Mo's on Rice, with rice topped with grilled chicken, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers, tossed in Italian dressing. It also came with a slice of Texas toast. Mo's on Rice is one of their speciality items; I tried a little bit, and I do think it was quite tasty! The other three from our group ordered the gyro dinner (strips of blended lam and beef served with pita bread). All in all, Flame & Skewers was a nice sit-down restaurant with reasonably priced food for the quality, and the service was quite nice and timely.

Best place to eat in the mall! Fast service and made to order dishes. The deep fried mushrooms are a great appetizer. They have chicken strips and macNCheese for children! More soon.

Top is Mo's on Rice and bottom is Mo's salad!

A long time fave of since the days of hanging out in the mall as a teenager! Today we enjoyed Mo's on Rice and Mo's Salad. Delicious as always!! And if you like a good gyro...try one here!! Yum!! Now quick, go try it!!

Their food is fantastic, service is quick, and it tastes great! It's fast casual "build your own bowl" style place, very similar to Chipotle, just with Mediterranean options. Portion sizes here are great and all of the ingredients seemed very fresh. This is going to be my "go to" stop for the next couple of days for lunch!

I ordered a harissa chicken gyro with lettuce, cucumber/tomato, and tzatziki. My husband got the basic lamb gyro. Both were very tasty and made well, but the pita bread just fell apart and made it very messy to eat. All the options are customizable and similar to a "chipotle" ordering where you pick your option, protein, veggies, and sauce. The staff were friendly and efficient even after telling us they were short staffed. Their soda machine had some fun choices to choose from. We enjoyed the strawberry and cream soda. Pricing seemed medium-high at $11 for just the gyro and Ala carte add ons for drinks and sides. The interior had plenty of booths, tables, and patio seating. The bathrooms were ok, could've been cleaner. Overall, I'd come back but just not my first choice.

We were running a tight schedule which is our fault. I ordered the Creamy Steak de Burgo with Rosemary Potatoes. I ordered it medium and chose the beef tenderloin. Well it didn't come out medium or rare, but raw. I mean raw. The server agreed and took it back. It took a while to come back and by that time we needed to go to catch the show. We also barely made it to the show. I had to take it to go. The server didn't say anything to the manager or apologize or anything. Again I know I was in a tight schedule, but it is your responsibility to ensure the food is correct and cooked to order. I am not giving up on Opa! because the food is solid, The service could be better. The beef tenderloin was very good with the creamy garlic, wine, & basil sauce. Tossed and topped with mushrooms. The rosemary potatoes were fire, especially with the creamy sauce from the tenderloin. I would ask for more sauce next time. I did the upgrade and it's definitely worth it. They need to work on getting the rare, medium, medium well, and that's not good correct. What I got back was a very well done tenderloin. This is a solid meal and I will be back to give it a shot. We never said we were in a hurry or anything. Just want it cooked correctly. The salad and bread were good. I would get the salad dressing on the side. My gorgeous wife got the lasagna and I got a bite. It was amazing as well. She loved it and would get it again. We hadn't planned on going to Opa! but we did and I absolutely love the atmosphere and feel this is a solid place, just wasn't a great experience. I was so damned hungry through the entire show at the Civic Center and may have been hangry.

I ordered the rice platter with falafel, and wow, flavor explosion! The tzatziki tasted homemade (because it probably is) and was super creamy and delicious. Now, let's talk about the tiny plot twist -- they charge $0.75 each for olives and feta. Not a dealbreaker, but for that price I was hoping for more than five lonely olive slices and a baby spoonful of feta. Still, everything else totally made up for it -- the food came out fast, fresh, and full of flavor. I'll definitely be back!
