Been here several times being a Boone implant since 2014 so I know they got good food. I usually get the club sandwich or a burger but this time I decided to try the Cuban tenderloin and let me tell you I'm glad I did. This thing was stacked with delicious ham and melted Swiss cheese on top of their already delicious breaded pork tenderloin, slather it with mustard and pickles and boy oh boy are your taste buds in for a treat. 10/10 will get again:)!!!! Got their delicious homemade onion rings on the side with some ranch I was in hog heaven (pun intended):)!!!! As always the service was top tier:)!!!! This is one of our all time favorite places to go for either lunch or dinner!!! The food is always exceptionally awesome! The BEST ribs ANYWHERE!!!! BUT, they only serve them the first weekend of every month and plan to be there early to order! They often are jammed packed with a wait. And they've even run out of them in the past! The wait staff are all so friendly & work so hard! The atmosphere is perfect for a nice date night & the full bar with many, many choices is stocked and attended extraordinarily well! Decent bar and grill, no bells and whistles here. We went to lunch, mid-week, and I was a bit surprised that there wasn't a lunch menu. It was rather busy so not having a lunch menu isn't due to lack of patrons. Standard order a bacon cheddar bbq burger with crinkle fries and a monte crisco with salad, took a little longer than expected but came out hot. The burger was average. The monte crisco was on a fried tortilla and had a side of a raspberry sauce, it was interesting. The sauce wasn't too sweet and hard to really decide if I liked it or not. Grape jelly would have been amazing. Service was fine, not overly attentive by any means. But she got the order right and brought the check when asked, so it was a success. The bar area looked pretty decent. The tap handles about the bar show a great list of diverse options for taps. I am a bit curious how busy they get because it was crickets today. read more

Came in for lunch on a Wednesday with coworkers and the place was busy enough we stood up front for a good 5 min before seating. Plenty of items in a pretty thorough menu from apps to dinner type items onto sandwiches and salads. Opted for the special which was a turkey pastrami sandwich. Got the spicy pickle fries as I've never heard of such a thing and they turned out pretty good. Food came out pretty quick, service was friendly. Solid 3.5 stars in my book. Would've been 4 if not for the flies buzzing around. read more

I've been coming to Ames for years, primarily to spend time with my Mom and Dad who have been long time residents. Mom passed away a couple years ago, but one situation remains the same: where to go out to eat for Lunch or Dinner. We don't share favorites (for example, my choice of the Mucky Duck) and hoping in the car is preceded by a long back and forth on where to go. Based on extensive Yelp and TripAdvisor searches, I chose the Colorado Grill in Boone, a place that I'd not yet been. Dad of course had been there, but not for a long while. So, combined with a short road trip, we both agreed that that we could give this place a try. The Colorado Grill is somewhat unassuming on the outside, looking more like an industrial park building. However, the inside is roomy and comfortable featuring some nice booths and an inviting bar. Service was very nice and the menu offered lots of variety including sandwiches, burgers, pasta, wraps, flatbreads, and full main courses. Both Dad and I ordered burgers, while I opted off a nice tap beer selection, while he had a glass of red wine. His side choice of fries was more conventional, while I went for the friend onions. And of course that side wasn't all that healthy. But as an old girlfriend once opined: If it's greasy, crunchy, or salty, I'm all in. The menu was extensive enough that I really need to come back to explore it a little further. So when I come back in April, I'll be back even if I have to drag my Dad along. read more

Place was an hour and a half to their closing time, and let my partner come in and have a date to ourselves. Our waitress was very silly and kind (positive), and made our experience great! The staff seemed to have a great time too with only a couple customers lol!! The restaurant was decently quiet other than the occasional worker having fun :)) I didn't rate five only because I didn't care for the gravy for the mashed potato side (but that may just be a me thing). We stayed in Boone for my son's graduation from Iowa State. I'm sad we didn't find Colorado Grill sooner! Huge menu with a wide range of options to appeal to everyone. A couple of us had the grilled salmon and everyone agreed it was THE BEST salmon we'd had at restaurant ever - not over or under cooked and perfectly seasoned. My mom had the prime rib and said it was divine and my steak was perfectly cooked. The pasta my husband had was a huge portion! We all agreed that their homemade blue cheese dressing was a highlight. Our server was wonderful, even though it was a pretty busy Saturday night. She kept checking on us and answered all of our questions, even marking my mom's meal as needing to be gluten-free. To start, the service wad great! But, it goes downhill fast. The cheeseburger soup was so salty it was inedible. The creamy garlic parm dressing tasted like pepper! She had the pork chop, so salty and the cream sauce was just gross. I had the Philly, tasteless and very salty. Everything was overseasoned. We had a very pleasant food experience here on mid-afternoon during the Iowa/Iowa State game. They had some business, mostly in the bar for the game. We did stand and wait to be seated for what seemed like a while. Once we were seated, it took a bit of time for our server to come. I think they were all watching the game. Their menu had some unique items which intigued me. We saw their fries come out to another table and they looked so good. I opted for the Italian Chicken Sandwich and my husband had the Bourbon Chicken Sandwich. Both of us ordered fries. My sandwich was yummy! A little messy but so good. The fries were great! We think they were beer battered. So yummy! My husband enjoyed his meal too. When the server brought the check, he dropped it off saying, "here's the damage." Really, who says that!? While driving thru Boone, home of the "Dutch Oven Bakery" making me wonder if they have a good sour dough, but I digress. The family stopped at the Colorado Grill. We started with the fried pickles. Just a perfect amount of dill in the batter, making them very tasty with ranch. This was the best thing we ate. The special that night was a Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. According to our server was made in house from the remaining prime rib and the gravy was a burgundy home made sauce. Everyone was impressed and we all ordered the same thing. IKR! The portion was huge and I mean f'n big!!! Nobody could even get half way thru what was served to us. The Salisbury steak was really flavorful and the mashed were real. The green beans almost had a grilled flavor to them. Which everyone commented about. The gravy tasted as if it was made from opening a can. Had I known I would have ask for no gravy please. This was my third visit and I've never really had a killer meal. Colorado Grill isn't a bright shiny star in Boone or a complete let down either. Not even sure if there are many choices in Boone. Went to Colorado Grill tonight, a favorite Boone restaurant. One of us had salad, the other a burger. Both arrived quickly and both were very good. So we decided to order the bread pudding, one of our favorites. The waitress told us she had never fixed the dessert before so we should let her know if it was not ok. When she came back around we told her that it didn't taste right. It tasted as if it were sprinkled with a Mexican spice, cumin. She reassured us that she had used cinnamon sugar like they always do. Not. We told her it also was not hot. She said okay and brought us the check. Not exactly the treatment you would hope for when you tell them they've made a mistake.
