Was recommended to this practice by friends who are patients of Dr. Cheung. Realllly glad I went and wish I did it sooner. In addition to her being super thorough with my eye exam (almost a hour and she explained what she was doing in detail and made sure to answer all my questions thoroughly), the glasses prices here are also much better than elsewhere. My last pair that I got from site for sore eyes costed over $500; I was able to get a pair here done for almost half that. Granted the frame selection are different, but I'm happy with what I got and it's nice not having to pay so much for a new pair. Dr. Cheung is super sweet and nice, but the experience at her office with the front desk people made the experience less enjoyable. When I called to make an appointment or to inform her I was running late to my appointment, whoever took the call was borderline mean, so I wasn't too happy with that. Besides her front desk folks though, Dr. Cheung herself is worth 5 stars. Super sweet and friendly, and was great about explaining everything about procedure and what my insurance covers etc. and was not pushy about me buying new frames. I would definitely recommend her as an individual, but the front desk definitely needs improvement. read more

Service is great. The ladies in optical sales are super helpful and fast. Their prices are okay. We needed up buying contacts online which were close to 50% cheaper than what they offered. Dr. Cheung is very sweet and professional. I like how I don't need to wait if I arrive on time for my appointment. Only complain is, she gets annoyed when I told her I won't order the contact lens through her clinic (well, they are cheaper if when I ordered online). The front desk staffs (her parents) do speak English but not fluent, I often need to repeat myself couple times so they can understand my words. Contact lens exam, using VSP insurance Pros: Nice clean office, good location. Didn't have to wait to be seen when I arrived. Dr. Cheung was friendly, compassionate and took the time to thoroughly explain and answer my questions. They have new equipment - so she doesn't use the "puff" machine that blows air in your eye. So, you should go to her just because of that. :) Cons: Didn't particularly care for the front desk people. They weren't unpleasant, but not friendly either. read more

Shout out to Dr. Laura Cheung for her amazing patients with me as I asked a million and one questions. She even showed me a picture of the back of my eye. Her selection of frames was a nice surprise. I found Dr. Cheung while I was living in Fremont. It was close and covered by my insurance. I have since moved to Pleasanton, and I still go back here for exams and my contacts and glasses. The office is nice and clean. Dr. answers all of my questions and is very friendly. I wanted to write a review because I was reading other reviews about the "front desk workers." The people working the front desk are her parents. They don't speak the best english but I like the fact that it is a family run operation and that her parents are trying to help. Dr. Cheung was a great choice for my annual eye exam. I did both my exams for contacts and glasses because I needed to get a new pair of glasses even though I normally wear contacts more often. My exam was thorough yet painless and what others have written about Dr. Cheung being very nice, polite and willing to take her time during the exam is extremely accurate. Other optometrists I've gone to in the past would tend to go through the exam quickly whereas Dr. Cheung was very helpful in helping you find the "best fit" during each part of the exam. I looked through Yelp and called around quite a bit before deciding on ProVision and I'm glad I did. Walmart and Costco do not take VSP which is my insurance provider. Costco referred me to another Optometrist in Newark. The benefit of not having to go to Costco and Walmart is that I get the more private and comfortable feel of a smaller optometrist office which is generally very quiet in comparison. The office is located in a smaller shopping center but there is usually still plenty of parking available. I would definitely recommend Dr. Cheung to anyone in the Fremont area looking for a optometrist. read more

Fremont residents are fortunate to have a number of experienced and skilled optometrists (and dentists), so I feel relieved to have the services of Dr Cheung for my annual exam and lenses/glasses fitting. Dr Cheung was patient in answering my many inquiries, and suggested I participate in a manufacturer's rebate for the lenses I ordered through ProVision. Sure I could have taken the prescription to Costco or elsewhere, but I'd like to think of this as an opportunity to give back to the local mom/pop stores like ProVision. Further, I've called back for questions and have found Dr Cheung very helpful in reviewing details without having to set up an in person consultation -- I don't imagine the big box stores would be capable of such service. As my supply of contacts will be expiring soon, I look forward to getting another exam and a renewed supply of contact lenses :) read more

I have been going to "Dr. Laura" for about 4 years now. I started going because it was very close to where I lived, (I've since moved). Dr. Cheng is very thorough and I never feel rushed with the process. I get designer glasses since I have to wear them all the time and it is important for me to be able to make the decision without pressure. I like the family business feeling of the place. I went to Provision because it was close to my office. I needed an eye exam and also, I had to spend my FSA fund before I lost them. I got fitted for contacts, which I have been avoiding because I can only use the semi permeable ones, but the optometrist, Laura Cheng, made the process as painless as possible. I spent a lot of my FSA money on frames and later, contact lens solutions and washes so it worked out. I am deducting one star only because the selection of frames is not as extensive as I like. read more

Well, English is not their first language thus over the phone they might not seems like the friendliest people, but they are very efficient. I like everything about this little practice, and if there is one thing to improve, that would be the selection of glasses that seems to be a little outdated. I went to Provision because they had a good review here, they were close to my home, and they were fully covered by my insurance provider. I had high hopes for this place, because my first optometrist was crap. Each member of the staff was completely friendly, informative, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the choice of new glasses. I haven't gotten them yet, but I love the frames, which I actually got to pick out for myself this time. Dr. Cheng is very sweet, and I felt very comfortable with her. They have a good selection of designer frames, but very limited variety when it comes to basic ones, especially square shaped small frames. I generally like to take my time and thoroughly check stuff, before I actually buy them. But I felt I was being rushed at this place. Also, the lady can keep pushing you to buy the more expensive glasses, constantly telling you how nice they look on you, even after you have clearly told her, that it does not match your style. However after spending some time at this place, I finally found a frame of my choice. The frame along with the lens and anti-glare cost me a total of 240$, so I did have to spend a small amount out of my pocket, since the amount exceeded what my insurance covered. My glasses were ready in 10 days, so not much waiting time. If you like to browse through stuff without someone constantly breathing down your neck, this place is NOT for you. Try the one at Walmart (Albrae St) instead. Since Dr. Cheng's eye clinc is also inside Walmart, you can have the consultation and frame selection done at the same place (although Dr. Cheng is in no way related to the store that sells frames, which is actually an advantage, since you don't have to go through any unnecessary marketing). I went here for my bi-annual eye exam because it was highly-ranked here. I was not disappointed. Dr. Cheung was very methodical & easy to talk with. The exam was reasonably-priced. I get my glasses elsewhere, and was very pleased when she didn't push me to look at her selection after I mentioned it. I visited this store to get my kids glasses done. We had prescription from our doctor and were looking for getting the frame and lenses. They didn't had much options for kids. Got some assistance initially in selecting the frames. The store assistant kept on saying that first make the payment and then she can show us few more frames kept in the back. Not sure what's point of not keeping all frames in the display and hurrying customer to make the payment first. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Provision Optometry last summer (2009) to renew my prescription for contact lenses. It was very easy to schedule an appointment, my exam went by very quickly, they answered all the questions I had, and out of the half dozen other places I called before contacting Provision, they had the lowest price on exams to boot. I also called in a month or so later because I had lost my exam receipt which I needed to have in order to submit a contact lens rebate, and the staff at Provision was kind enough to send it to me by mail, saving me a trip back out to their offices. Fast. Professional. Great value. Awesome customer service. You can't go wrong. Highly recommended all the way around. UPDATE 01/03/10: Visited in to renew my prescription a few weeks ago. Great experience, exam went by without a hitch, and the doc even sat with me and gave me her opinion/understanding of laser eye surgery and the different options available to me after I had inquired about it. I haven't been to the eye doctor in over 10 years and prior to that I had only military eye care so I have no recent or real point of reference. My appointment was great. . She explained everything, answered all of my questions and I felt like I was in good hands the entire time. She has a nice selection of frames as well as sunglasses at all price ranges and walked away with some great eyewear that was within my budget. I needed to find a place that takes vsp and provides soft contact lense fitting. i have to say that though the doctors here are decent enough (not the most experienced or practiced in my opinion) the customer service is absolutely abominable. Despite how cheap the fittings are relative to some other fremont places, the horrible service completely ruins it. They must not pay the front desk ppl enough or something. One woman in particular, snapped at all the customers and was outright rude when customers had simple questions that really takes half a second to answer. i definitely dont recommend this place unless you like having your head bit off for no reason whatsoever! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Chung for several years and I appreciate her but she needs to let her parents (Mom) stay home, Mom can be rude and very inpatient, I feel bad for her since her English is very limited and you have to repeat yourself several times. John (her dad) is awesome very helpful. BUT when my glasses, the only pair I have bifocal...legs broke I was stuck with them Dr. Chung would not help me with the repair or guarantee. You would think or hope that after bringing you business to them for over 4 years they would a least help you with the one pair of glasses. The metal cam off the plastic. What really irritates me is the lack of courtesy when they speak their own language and you have no idea what they are saying and if they are talking about you. For that experience I go and have my nails done.....I wish Dr. Chung would think about her practice more seriously and hire outside staff. Dr. Chung is very helpful with finagling both of my insurance companies to make the most of the coverage but I can't get over my last experience. I spent a year with broken glasses... I hope I can find a better place to go but for now I feel I'm stuck with Provision. I would not recommend them. Sorry Dr. Chung. read more

Initially I was put off by the thick accent of the receptionist, but Dr. Cheung has no accent and does a very thorough exam stopping frequently to see if you have any questions. My new glasses were perfect and she took the time to explain what was covered by my insurance, what the extras would cost and what options were "nice" but not really necessary for the way I use my glasses. read more

Dr. Cheung is running a great little practice. She knows her stuff, is through and best of all, patient! I live walking distance, which is great for me, but even if I didn't, I'd come back. Dr Cheung is one of the most arrogant optometrists you can ever come across. She always rushes things and does not want to explain any details to her patients. I guess not everyone would just buy frames/contacts etc without actually understanding the test results, prescription etc. Her primary focus/interest is only in selling frames/contact lenses etc. There is no way you can talk to her staff as they don't understand English at all, try giving them a call. I don't think I, my friends and my colleagues would ever go to her again and strongly advise everyone else. You just cant take people for granted! read more
