After receiving my glasses, I decided to visit another optometry office for my contact lens prescription and exam to avoid the hassle of returning to Fremont constantly, especially since I live quite a distance away. However, I found that making the trip once a year for my family's check-ups was reasonable. Last year, my children, husband, and I had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Young. She was incredibly kind and understanding, recommending that I consider both contact lenses and glasses during my visit. I appreciated her approach as it allowed me to take my time in making a decision without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. This year's experience exceeded my expectations. Just four days after purchasing new glasses, my daughter accidentally broke hers. However, Annel, one of the staff members, went above and beyond to assist us. Tri-City Optometry is the gold standard for bad customer service. This review is written on behalf of my sister, who is hesitant to post under her own name because she recently purchased an expensive pair of glasses here and is worried about possible issues or retaliation if she needs repairs in the coming year. Dr. Shital Chatwani rushes through the appointment, speaks down to the patient, does not answer questions clearly, and becomes visibly impatient when questions are asked. The entire interaction felt less like a medical appointment and the clear priority seemed to be getting the patient out quickly and into ordering expensive glasses, rather than taking time to explain things or address concerns. It honestly felt like dealing with a businessperson more than a doctor. Unfortunately, the poor experience did not stop with the doctor. The overall leadership and culture of this office seems weak, and it shows in the behavior of the staff. There are many employees walking around, yet when customers have questions, they often say "I'm busy" and walk away without offering to find someone else to help. In a professional practice, you would expect at least a basic effort to redirect you to another staff member. That simply does not happen here. The staff appear selectively nice to people they are trying to secure business from but otherwise the service is consistently rude, rushed, and unhelpful. The overall attitude is 'take it or leave it.' Even when there is no problem, you are treated with disregard. If there is a problem, I would not trust this office to handle it with care or professionalism. There are many excellent optometrists who accept VSP and other insurance plans. I wish I could give them 0 stars. This place wasted my $300 and completely ruined my glasses. I went back multiple times for help, and every time I was told, "the manager is not here." When I finally managed to speak with the manager in person, she was extremely rude, unprofessional, and dishonest. Right in front of me, she popped the lenses out of my glasses and twisted the frame, then denied ever touching them. First she said she would help resolve the issue, and then suddenly changed her story and said, "Sorry, we can't help, it's been almost a year." The frustrating part is that when I tried to get help earlier -- before it had been a year -- the staff kept telling me the manager was unavailable and that nobody else could assist me. Now I'm stuck with expensive YSL glasses that I can't even use. On top of that, I feel like I was overcharged with unnecessary add-ons and hidden costs. I have honestly never experienced customer service this bad before. The manager was incredibly unprofessional, dismissive, and disrespectful. Very disappointed. Tri-City Optometry is the best I've ever been! Appointment system: The online system is very easy. You can see all availabilities through the platform. Once confirmed, all eye examination options are also provided via the online forms, so there are no surprises on the day of your visit. The visit: The parking lot is small, may occasionally get into a situation where there are no spots. Staff are all very friendly. You get checked in, and then wait for your examination. Exams: Everyone is super friendly!! They walk you through what to do for each machine. With the optic scan they also make sure to guide you on how to take the best pics. Everything is done with extreme meticulousness as well as getting your questions all answered. They even go through your eye history (on file with them) and let you know how your eye health has been in history. Frames and lens: the best thing I love about tri-city optometry is that they are super transparent about the prices. The staff will remind you of your insurance coverage and let you shop around. There has NEVER been a situation where they try to sell more expensive ones, and they are always the best if you need any fashion recommendations. Quite disappointed that I scheduled an appointment and did not get any confirmation at all. I called before my appointment time and they said they did not have my appointment on their system. The person responded as if I am the fault by saying "there is nothing I can do" when clearly she can talk to doctors to see if there is anyway to fit me in for the same day. I have been a patient of Dr. Chatwani for more than 10 years since they were in old office in Newark. This weekend, my wife and I went to their summer Aloha sale for the first time. We are glad we went there. We got one pair of glasses for my wife that she had been thinking about it and I got one pair of glasses for myself. Staffs were super nice. My wife wanted one particular color in different frame style and one particular style of lens shade which they didn't have display model that met all three criteria. Erica and sale person didn't mind to explain in details and both of them were super nice. (Sorry I didn't get sale person name.) I recommend you give them a try and go to their sale event. The Good: * Dr. Walker is a really good optometrist. She found out that my prescription was too high and fixed it. She also considered my past experience of getting a corneal infection and recommended daily contact lenses that were more breathable and comfortable that I literally do not feel like I have the lenses on. She is also personable and recommended eye drops for my dry eyes and seasonal allergies. If this review was just about Dr. Walker I would've given 5 stars. Area(s) to improve on: I ordered 1 yr supply of contact lenses through this office and this is where everything went wrong: * I initially asked for them to have the contact lenses delivered to the Tricity Optometry office for 3 reasons: 1. They told me this way would be faster because it would take only a week for the contact lenses to arrive and then I would just pick them up from this location. Since these contacts lenses are better for my eyes, I wanted to get them as soon as possible. 2. They told me that they would mark the boxes as left or right, which would be convenient for me. 3. I would not have to worry about the lenses getting lost in the mail or delivered to the wrong door, etc. HOWEVER, The office staff who ordered my contacts lenses made the mistake of having them shipped directly to my address, which meant I would have to wait another week! * I waited 2 weeks and still did not receive the contact lenses in my mail. I called the office and found out that they had ordered the contacts lenses to be delivered to a really old address of mine! I wish they had confirmed the address with me as soon as they realized that they had ordered my lenses to be shipped to me rather than to their office. Fortunately they were able to get the lenses re-shipped at no cost and this time they shipped them to the Tricity Optometry office for me to pick up, which is what I had asked for originally! However, this meant I had to wait yet another week. So at this point I had been waiting for 3 weeks for contact lenses that are better for my eyes' health. How Tricity Optometry can improve: * Listen to your customers' preferences, especially for important things like this where we have paid a few hundred dollars. * Double check your work. I had a very bad experience at this location. A month ago I came in with one of my friends and she was able to view the glasses. Try them on without any pushback or discussion that she required an appointment to view the glasses for purchase. Today on Veterans Day I come into this location to purchase some glasses for myself, and the girl that was seated at one of the counters told us to ring the bell in order to have somebody help us. I told her I just came to view the glasses for purchase today And she said you still have to ring the bell because somebody has to help you with an annoyed appearing face. we ring the bell then some guy comes out and asked us if we have an appointment. I kindly tell him no we do not but that we were just in there about a month ago and was able to view the glasses without an appointment and even purchased. He then proceeded to tell me that this is not how they do it and that I would need an appointment. It was very confusing to me of how inconsistent this was from the last time that we were there. Felt like I was Julia Roberts on Beverly Hills Blvd. trying to shop and they would not let me except for this was definitely not Beverly Hills. It was just Tri-City optometry in Fremont. It wasn't even that I need an appointment. It was just the way that it was presented to me in a very annoyed manner as if I was there to bother them or they were unhappy. They had to work on Veterans Day either way there's too many good places to get eyeglasses to come in and not have excellent customer service. I will not be returning to this place. read more

Searching for optometry services after a long time of not getting your eyes checked? Well, look no further as Tri-City Optometry (in Fremont on Mowrey Ave) is the only place you should go! Why? The STAFF. Everyone here was hospitable, starting at the moment someone picked up my call to open the door to let me into the building. I was kindly directed to my seat and the hallways to various rooms for my appointment. When seeing my assigned doctor, SY, I was professionally informed about the current status of my dear eyes. SY gave me all the details and advice while also answering any questions I had. I had a lot. She was patient and efficient during my appointment. She made sure to clarify her presentation of any complex medical type wisdom in a way, that someone like myself, who is far removed from the optometry world, was able to easily understand the information. After seeing SY, I was immediately assisted by an amazing Office Manager who made me feel at home. We shared jokes and connected on a level that I thought I would not be able to achieve at an optometry office! There is a reason why she is a manager after all! My appointment was originally scheduled for 1 hour but the atmosphere that had been cultivated by the amazing staff just made me want to stay there and hang out! I'm excited to come back to pick up my glasses! This will be a "1st Optemery Visit" experience that I will never forget! read more

Dr. Shital Chatwani is highly unprofessional and lacks competence. Both doctors mismanaged my eye prescription twice. Initially, Dr. Chatwani rushed through the checkup and provided a prescription that left me unable to see clearly. When I returned, a junior doctor Samantha Young reassessed my vision but significantly lowered my prescription, causing the same issue. This poorly conducted exam cost me $100. Moreover, when reviewed by the other doctor, Dr. Chatwani's notes were disorganized and unclear. I have no idea how they are licensed to practice when they seem to know so little about optometry. I had the most terrible customer service of my life here. I ordered a prescription sunglass and I was told it would be ready in 2 weeks. After 2 and half weeks of waiting I called them to check the status and then I was told it will take another week and half. The manager(Jody) told me how the lab is really slow in their work and a lot of other details about the lab that I wasn't really interested in. You work with that lab you deal with them instead of giving me those reasons. Best thing is no one bothered to communicate to me about the delay until I called to check. After another week comes my glass and guess what, not the color I ordered! Plus the lens had a white circle around it. Another manager(Teresa) checked with the lab and apparently they messed it up. She re-ordered the color I wanted and told me she will update me when she gets an ETA. Another week goes by and no updates. I finally call and guess what, I am being told it's ready for pickup. When asked why they didn't call me, they guy on the phone said they weren't aware of it being delivered as there was no notification left. I mean really! This pathetic! How awful a service could be? No one is bothered about the customer service, all matters to them is the insurance money. My order was messed up but they didn't seem to care. I have got my glass in 5 weeks and that too a color different from what I ordered. I don't want to visit this place ever again and would let everyone be aware of it that there are much better places available to get quality product and service. read more

They took the time to asses and check in detail what I needed. As a business profesional I understand how hard it is to please every one and I know that you can not always please every one; but they made the extra effort and went the extra mile to help me. This review is particularly for Dr. Shital Chatwani. We had an appointment for eye exam for my daughter. She never had glasses and we were shocked to know that she is near sighted after Dr. Chatwani examined her. She was advertising to get corneal lenses and it seemed bit pushy to me. As it is not covered in any insurance and the cost is pretty high (~$2000/yr), we didn't like the option. However since this is first time we learned that my daughter is near sighted, we decided to get second opinion. The second opinion was very different than what Dr. Chatwani prescribed. So we went there again to get clarification. This time she was very rude and blaming us to get the second opinion. It is my right to get second onion for my child and there is nothing wrong with it but since it was very different than what she described, she took it personally and it hurt her ego. She was very uncooperative and instead of explaining things or retesting, she was kept blaming us to get the second onion. This was very unprofessional from her. We had upcoming appointment for my wife but we decided to cancel that instead because of her being rude. We are never going back there but posting the review here to let other people know that there is a rude and unprofessional doctor out there who you can avoid. read more

My optometry checkups are the only Doctor's visit that is actually enjoyable, from start to finish. I've been a patient of Dr. Chatwani for about 15 years now and it's been a pleasant and efficient experience every time. Their office is beautiful and gives off that sleek, clean feel. Customer service has always been friendly and patient whether in-person, over the phone, or email. I particularly love being able to schedule appointments online and communicate through email for prescription copy requests, general questions, etc. Dr. Chatwani is obviously so knowledgable and is great at answering/explaining any questions I have. And just as importantly, she is very personable and fun to chat with. Even with just one visit per year, she still remembers what we last spoke about and asks how I'm doing. Way to make her patients feel special! Lastly, they have a wonderful selection of eye/sunglasses from casual to designer. And they'll inform you about rebates if you wear contacts. service is OK, but quality of glass made was tribble. I have made my glasses with anti reflective coat, it was starting wearing out after 3 months of usage. I went there to describe the issue as I have been wearing glasses for more than 40 years, I had not had any experience like it to have the AR coating getting all over scratchy - the recent one I had was two year old, the glass was very clear and shiny without single scratch on AR coat. To make it short they honored the warranty and made another replacement for the glass with AR coat. you know what after about the same time 2+ months, I started seeing the coat pealing out as well. I was not sure what kind of AR coat they used - might be on the low end side of manufacture. read more

Dr. Chatwani and her staff are awesome. Always friendly and professional. I've been going to Tri-City Optometry for the last 6 years and not once have I thought about going elsewhere. I tend to schedule my visits toward the end of the year because of their annual trunk show. They have a great selection of frames and always go over the options with you when purchasing one. What I also appreciate is getting an honest opinion about how a frame looks on me because I can be indecisive. And as busy as Dr. Chatwani is, she takes the time to stop and greet me. Go A's! Note: Due to Covid, it's best to schedule an appointment. The main door is locked, so you have to call to enter. They check your temperature when you enter, disinfect the frames, use shields on eye equipment, and keep hand sanitizer available. You enter the main door and exit the side door. They also have curbside pick-up available when your glasses are ready. These precautions are necessary and I am glad they do this to keep everyone safe. read more
