Over time, we have cycled through three caregivers and multiple management staff, all demonstrating the same troubling patterns: inattention, lack of basic caregiving skills, and a complete absence of accountability. Families should not be misled by warm introductions or polished three-ring binders filled with mission statements and promises of dedication. The reality could not be further from what is presented. Despite repeated and direct requests--both verbal and written--to management and individual caregivers to remain off their phones during shifts, caregivers remain consumed by personal phone use while my father-in-law, who has dementia, is left sitting in front of the television for hours at a time. I have personally purchased interactive games such as Connect 4, card games, and ping pong, as well as supplies for bird feeders, all with the intention of encouraging engagement and stimulation. None of these efforts have been utilized. Meaningful interaction appears to be considered "too much effort." This is especially frustrating because I know--through firsthand experience--that my father-in-law is far more mentally present and capable than the caregivers recognize. Ten rounds of Connect 4 with him is joyful, engaging, and entirely within his abilities. He is very much alive inside, and he deserves to be treated that way. On February 4, 2026, I visited to check his refrigerator and discovered expired raw eggs dated January 16, 2025, along with multiple other expired perishable items--foods that could have been served to him up to three times a week. This alone raises serious concerns about basic safety and oversight. I arrived at 1:04 p.m. By 1:08 p.m., the caregiver--who had been sitting comfortably on her phone--suddenly made urgent phone calls and left, abandoning her shift nearly an hour early despite being scheduled until 2:00 p.m. I immediately contacted management and, to date, have received no response addressing this clear dereliction of duty. This behavior is consistent with prior experiences. On an earlier occasion, I asked this same caregiver to walk with my father-in-law around the Ballard Senior Center. Instead, she ignored the request and sat on a bench until it was time to be picked up. It is not difficult to understand why she appeared uneasy when I arrived unannounced simply to check a refrigerator--basic oversight exposed ongoing neglect. While the primary legal responsibility lies with his daughter, who travels internationally for extended periods, my husband and I step in when she is away to ensure that his fundamental needs are met: bathing, shaving, walking, social interaction, and a properly stocked and safe refrigerator. Rather than welcoming this involvement, the caregiver and her manager complained to his daughter that I "micromanage" and should "back off." It is astonishing to be criticized for ensuring that a vulnerable adult is properly cared for. HomeWell charges $50 per hour for care. At that rate, families reasonably expect engagement, attentiveness, and respect for the dignity of a person with dementia--not caregivers sitting in chairs on their phones while ignoring their core responsibilities. Unfortunately, my hands are tied. I am not the legal guardian and do not have the authority to hire or dismiss caregivers. However, that limitation does not diminish my obligation to speak up when I witness neglect, safety risks, and systemic failures in care. This is not a matter of personality conflicts or unrealistic expectations. It is about accountability, basic competence, and humane treatment of a vulnerable elder who deserves far better than what HomeWell has consistently provided. I hope your loved ones are never placed in situations where their care and well-being are compromised, as we have experienced with HomeWell.

The care for my dad was a mixed bag, some good and some mediocre. After my dad's passing, they told us we would have up to 1 year of bereavement counseling free through continuum. Sounds great, but problem is you can never get a first appointment to have access to individual and or group therapy. Have had three cancellations for a first appointment. I scheduled time off from work to make these appointments. If people can't get a first appointment that sticks then the proposed therapy is useless.

Anytime we'd call, it felt like we were a burden. Mom had a bad fall. I reached out and asked for a call back. She said she would call, but did not. I had to call her after waiting so long. Mom was unconscious after that fall for 3 days, makes me so infuriated. We didn't want to switch hospices because we thought it would be too much of a hassle with mom in the condition she was in and having to switch out equipment. Looking back, we should have. After the fall, I moved mom in with me, and the nurse changed to Armie. One of the good things about that hospice is her. She genuinely cared and you could feel her sincerity. Eventually, we had to move her to an adult family home. The nurse switched to Pearl, and she was the only other good thing about this company. Mom began actively transitioning, and at one point, began aspirating. The caregiver called after hours. You'd think they would call back pretty quickly, but nope, I had to call in again and demand a nurse call. I would not recommend this hospice. Families deserve compassionate and responsive care during end-of-life moments, and this company simply did not deliver that

Because they stated the doctor "left for vacation to Mexico," they could not provide me her medications, a list of her medications, and none of her prescriptions had been called into the pharmacy. Further, they did not have a cheap aluminum walker to send her home with. Because the head nurse had expressed she was confident she would be kept on after appeal, she left me scrambling to fly from out of state the following day after rejection. This all took place on a FRIDAY evening, with no options but to go the weekend without meds or a walker. I managed to arrive the following day, but the couldn't handle a basic discharge that is part of what they do every single day as a business. They SHOULD have kept my mother over the weekend at no charge to her to make up for their MAJOR blunder (instead they estimated about $500 per night out of pocket). When I found my mother waiting for me, they had a quarantine sign on her door but my mother wasn't sick. The nurse told me the sign had to do with her roommate who had left a couple days prior, so my other said she was not even being attended to. I would NOT recommend this facility if you're looking for a place your loved one will be treated like an actual human being, worthy of respect, and who will help with any sort of transition after discharge.

Her post op care required a wound vac and a facility that was equipped to change it out every 3 days. This facility came up as qualified for this specific care. They approved the care order. After being there for a week, my mother's wound vac hadn't been changed and when I called to find out what was going on , I was told Benito was the only one trained to switch it out and he didn't work weekends. Left early for an "emergency" This was a Friday night. It should have already been switched out by this point I called and made a fuss. This care is the difference between keeping or losing her leg. Benito came back in on his day off to do the required care we paid for. When he went to change the vac out he ripped the bandage off my mother's open wound and caused tremendous pain. So much so my mom too afraid to let the staff know when she was having any discomfort. After that incident they were cold and distant with her and rude with me when I visited. She came home before she was ready because we were both concerned about elderly abuse. I would like to think anyone in this profession would treat people the way they would want their parents to be treated. Amazingly after this incident , they had another nurse do wound vac changes. Today we received a $3000 bill after being told her stay was covered by insurance. No itemized charges. Just 3/1 and cost of service. From the facility.

However, I have learned that it is challenging to know what to expect, and find good resources, so I felt like leaving a review might at least be helpful to some... The location itself not on a busy street, the parking could use improvement, however, there is some in the back. I do think the staff here is efficient and they were very responsive to phone calls and questions and coming in for a tour. During the tour I was able to ask any questions that I wanted to, and was able to understand clearly Aryana's responses. The way that this location is set up, included a short term, hallway, and a long-term hallway, the cleanliness of the areas were pretty good, and the overall facility did show a movie area, and boardgame area. I don't expect any location to be perfect, I did see a lot of seemingly happy family members visiting there, family while passing through the hallways... There was one spot that smelt of urine, but perhaps that was being addressed. Overall, I think if you are looking for someplace that your family needs to stay at, this is a good spot to begin your tour, and see.

They are dependable (without exception) and are able to be flexible when needed. I write this after 6 weeks of 5 days/week, 8 hours/day service from them. My husband and I each wholeheartedly recommend this agency for anyone needing temporary or long term care in their own home. A little history: We thought we had an arrangement with another home care agency, but due to questionable agency practices, we did not hire them. This, unfortunately happened a week before I needed knee surgery. My husband, the client, cannot be left alone and needs some assistance that I wouldn't be able to provide. I called Serengeti purely based on their reviews. The manager, Tanya, came to our home the next morning. Based on our impression of her and how she described their services, and on the quality of her assessment, we signed up that day. They started immediately on the date we needed them. They did not disappoint. The aide that Tanya matched up for my husband was well suited in personality as well as in her compassionate, competent skills. Gina (our aide) is a lovely, warm woman who is a pleasure to have nearby. Her primary job is to keep him safe and she does this well. She, also, helps him as needed to do his physical, occupational, and speech therapy homework. She does light housekeeping (laundry, dishwasher, tidying up, etc) as needed when I am around to insure ongoing visual supervison. We wish we had hired Serengeti sooner. I sleep better and am more energetic. I don't have to do it all. We also cannot say enough good about Tanya, the manager. She is "johnny-on-the-spot" and has helped us expedite insurance requirements. She has also called them on our behalf. She is a dynamo. Her daughter, Tanika, is equally helpful. Another aspect of this agenct that bears mentioning is that they treat their employees -- all vetted -- well. When I read employee reviews of Serengeti, the phrase I read most was that they were treated like family. Tanya and Tanika have set the atmosphere. (Our aide finds this to be the best home care agency for which she has worked.)

She was there for rehab for a broken arm after a fall, stayed in bed for days because of "not enough staff to get everyone up." I went in to visit in the afternoon, her breakfast tray was beside her bed, untouched, she was laying in a wet bed, almost unresponsive, incoherent. I asked them to send her to Providence, they said she just needed to drink more water. I called 911 and had her sent to Prov. The ER doc told the nurse to give her narcan, she immediately woke up. Please, do not send your loved one here.
